This study examine, changes in the pictures university students drew of their school library over time while taking a course focusing on explaining the importance of school libraries. The results revealed an increase in the tendency of pictures to depict librarians; However, even so, librarians featured in only 12 of the 32 pictures drawn by the students. Since the importance of librarians was a focus of the course, there appears to be a need to improve the curriculum.

Previously, I examined changes in pictures of school libraries drawn over time by university students in a teacher training program taking a course on the importance of school libraries. The results revealed an increased tendency to depict librarians; even so, librarians featured in only 12 of 32 pictures. This study compares my results with those for similar teacher and teacher librarian courses by other teachers and (in most cases) at other universities. Besides my course, only 1 of 15 other courses revealed an increased tendency to draw a librarian, with no significant differences in proportion of students who depicted librarians among the courses, revealing that my lectures successfully communicated the importance of school librarians. Also, 4 of 11 courses that focused on information media revealed an increased to draw PC(s). These results show that the image drawing method may suffice as an alternative barometer for librarian instruction.

This paper presents the full results from a 2008/2009 research study examining the application of a learning environment paradigm to the school library setting. The preliminary results from the examination of the Fifth Grade science classes were presented at the IASL 2009 Research Forum. We now report the process of completing our comparative examination of the relationships among student perceptions of science programs and library programs with Third (ages 8 and 9), Fourth (ages 9 and 10) and Fifth (ages 10 and 11) Grades. In addition, we extend the assessment of these relationships to a correlation with student achievement on the standardized State tests for Texas.

Gender as a context within the learning environment is examined through the results of four studies in the past three years where learning environment instruments were used to evaluate the school library. Previous research indicates that male and female students have physiological differences in terms of brainbased learning and cognitive development. Research has also applied an examination of gender differences to reading preferences. The current research extends an examination of gender by asking the question: To what extent do differences between male and female student perceptions of the same school library learning environment occur, and how can these differences be addressed? The results indicate that females generally have higher expectations of their learning environments than do males, and experience less satisfaction with their actual learning environment than males.

There is a lack of clarity as to the effects of school libraries on children with a non-western background in the Netherlands, an educationally disadvantaged group. Using a longitudinal design involving an experimental and a control school, the present study examined whether an integrated library facility in a Dutch primary school has an effect on the reading attitude and reading behaviour of non-western migrant students ( n = 140). The results showed no statistically significant effect on the degree in which students think reading is fun. On the other hand, over time, students attending the experimental school considered reading more useful than students visiting the control school. With regard to reading behaviour, no statistically significant effect of the school library was found. However, the school library programme was not implemented in the most optimal form, which may have affected the findings. Reading climate at home was found to be an important predictor of both reading attitude and reading behaviour, stressing the importance of parents as partners for school libraries when it comes to reading promotion.

This paper presents preliminary results from a 2008/2009 research study examining the application of a learning environment paradigm to the school library setting. With a focus on Grade 5 science classes, we examined the relationships among student perceptions of science programs and library programs. From a practical point of view, this study presents a new model for considering the contribution of school libraries to the field of education, specifically science education. From a research point of view, this study makes a unique contribution to the field of learning environments by evaluating school library programs and their relationship to classroom environments. The research will continue at other grade levels and be extended to assess the relationship between learning environments in the school library setting and student achievement.

Although the number of police officers serving in schools has escalated in recent years, few studies of student perceptions of school police have been conducted. This study presents an analysis of data on student perceptions of school police officers and school security officers which were obtained from surveys administered to a sample of predominantly Hispanic students who reside in a predominantly Hispanic community. Descriptive analyses of the data show that the majority of students view the officers favourably, but comparisons of the present findings with previously published research on adult perceptions of the police indicate that the percentage of students who view the officers favourably is lower than the percentage of adults who view the police favourably. Regression analyses of the data indicate that gender has a varying impact on different measures of attitudes toward the officers, that year in school has no impact on perceptions of the officers and that personal knowledge of crime and delinquency in the schools has a negative impact on perceptions of the officers. The regression analyses also suggest that race/ethnicity has no impact on student perceptions of the officers; a finding which is consistent with prior research on perceptions of the police conducted in areas with sizeable racial/ethnic minority populations.

The SMK Negeri 1 Siantar School Library is one of the special libraries located at the SMK Negeri 1 Siantar School. Libraries provide various kinds of library materials such as books, lessons, lesson questions, and other vocational books. After the researcher made observations, the problem that often occurred was books that were borrowed and returned books that had a non-strategic layout, so that library visitors who did not know the placement found it difficult to find the books they wanted to borrow. This research uses data mining techniques, namely the Apriori Algorithm, the Apriori Method is a method for looking for patterns of relationships between one or more items in a dataset. The Apriori method can be used for data on borrowing books at the Siantar 1 State Vocational School School Library, where the composition of the library books (B1) X_Press UN 2019 B. Indonesia side by side with books (B4) School of Love is a Great Leader and Teacher, if the composition of the book is (B10) Moral Mulia side by side with book (B1) X_Press UN 2019 B. Indonesia, If the book arrangement (B7) X_Press Mathematics is side by side with the book (B5) Relationer, if the book arrangement (B7) X_Press Mathematics is side by side with the book (B9) Indonesian Wisdom Batak Toba, and if the arrangement of the book (B10) Morals Mulia is side by side with the book (B8) Hati Therapy, the data from these items each met the minimum confidance value of 0,5% or the same as the specified 50%. The result of this research is to help library staff arrange the book layout correctly. It is hoped that this research can provide input to the school
