Cassava has the potential use to replace corn as an energy source in poultry feed.However, the level of substitution is not optimal because of the difference ratio ofamylose and amylopectin in maize and cassava. This study aimed to examine the effectof cassava flour with addition of isoamylase as a corn substitute in the ration on theperformance of broilers. The material used in this study was 150 male day-old chickenbroiler which were randomly divided into 3 treatments and 5 replications. Thetreatments were P0: 50% corn in the ration (control); P1: Substitution of 50% of cornby cassava flour; P2: Substitution of 50% of corn by cassava flour which contained0.14% isoamylase. The variables measured were feed intake, body weight, weight gain,feed conversion ratio, income over feed and chick cost and mortality rate. Data from thecomplete randomized design were analyzed using Analysis of Variance, the significantresults between the treatments were obtained by Duncan Multiple Range Test. Theresults showed that the substitution of corn by cassava flour without and with 0.14%isoamylase was not significantly affect final body weight, body weight gain, feed intakeand feed conversion ratio. The most profitable Income over feed cost obtained was thetreatment of P2 that is Rp 6,543.50. It can be concluded that the corn substitution bycassava flour without and with addition of 0.14% isoamylase was able to produce thesame performance as broiler chickens fed with corn in the ration for five weeks of thestudy. One method of reducing feed cost is to restrict the feed in the early life of broilers. In this regard, Fontana et al. (1992) reported that early feed restriction programs in their experiments proportionally reduced the consumption of the starter diets by an average of 22% in restricted broilers when compared with controls. Energy restriction has also been shown to result in a reduction in metabolic energy loss leading to a reduced requirement for maintenance. If during refeeding, this low requirement is maintained and if growth resumed at a normal or above normal rate (compensatory growth), feed efficiency would be substantially improved, leading to an economical advantage. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of severity of diet dilution (energy and protein) and duration of early feed restriction on feed intake (FI), body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of male broiler chickens.

This research aimed : 1) to investigate the effect of stocking density on feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion rate of broiler aged 14—28 days in closed house; 2) to determaine the best stocking density on feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio of broiler aged 14—28 days in closed house. This research was conducted in closed house of PT. Charoen Pokphand (Kandang Bandara 2) located in Bangun Sari area of Way Sari village, Natar district, South Lampung regency.  This research was conducted for 28 days, with rearing broiler from day 1st—13th was without treatment, and then from day 14th—harvest with treatments,  that was conducted in April 2019—May 2019.  This research used completely randomized design with 4 treatments (15, 17, 19, and 21 stocking density of chickens m-2) and 5 replications.  Data obtained was analyzed using analysis on variance at 5% levels of significance and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Results showed that different stocking density of  15, 17, 19, and 21 chickens m-2 affected (P<0.05) on feed consumption (with feed consumption of broiler of stocking density of 15 chickens m-2 was significantly (P<0.05) lower than those of 17, 19, and 21 chickens m-2), but it did not affect (P>0.05) on body weight gain and feed conversion ratio of broiler in closed house.   Keywords: Body weight gain, Closed house, Feed consumption, Feed convertion rate, Cage density

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the growth performance of Peking ducks fed with rations containing waste products of leubiem fish (Chanthidermis maculatus) and probiotic agents. The study was conducted experimentally using 96 Peking ducks, within an age range of about 1 to 8 weeks, and a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consisted of four treatment rations and four replications. The treatment rations used in this research included treatment R0, which was the basal diet, serving as the control ration, and also treatment R1, R2, and R3, which consisted of 10% concentration of leubiem fish skin, head, and bone, respectively, as well as 1% of a probiotic agent. The observed variables included the rate of feed consumption, body weight gain, final body weight, feed conversion ratio, and mortality were then analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the use of leubiem fish components and probiotic agents in rations at 10% and 1%, respectively, had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the rate of feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and final body weight. However, there was no significant effect on the mortality of Peking ducks. Therefore, this study concluded that the use of rations containing leubiem fishbone and probiotic agents at 10% and 1%, respectively, were able to accelerate the growth performance of Peking ducks.

In this paper, we present a study on the evaluation of the effect of xylanase addition to a diet with an increasing content of modern hybrid rye (Brasetto variety) on the performance indices and viscosity of small intestine content in broiler chickens. A total of 560 1-day-old male Ross 308 chickens were randomly assigned to 1 of 10 treatments, each comprising 7 replicate cages, with 8 male birds per cage. A 5 × 2 factorial arrangement was employed, with five dietary levels of ground rye (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%). All the diets were either unsupplemented or supplemented with xylanase (200 mg/kg of feed; with minimum xylanase activity 1000 FXU/g). In the starter rearing period (1–21 days of age), the inclusion of rye (without xylanase supplementation) to the diet, even at the lowest dietary level (5%), negatively affected body weight gain (p < 0.05); there was no effect on feed intake and feed conversion ratio. In older chickens (the grower-finisher rearing period; 22–42 days of age), none of the dietary levels of rye (5–20%) affected growth performance indices. Similarly, no significant effect of increasing dietary level of rye was found for the entire rearing period (1–42 days of age). Diet supplementation with xylanase improved body weight gain and feed conversion ratio in chickens from 1 to 21 days of age. No positive effect of enzyme was found in older birds. No significant effects of the experimental factors used were noticed on the results of slaughter analysis, i.e., the carcass yield, breast meat yield, abdominal fat, and relative weight of the liver and gizzard. A high dietary concentration of rye (20%) increased the viscosity of small intestine content (p < 0.05); however, diet supplementation with xylanase significantly alleviated this effect. The findings of this experiment indicated that modern hybrid rye grain may be used at a 20% dietary level in broiler diets during the second feeding phase, i.e., from 22 to 42 days of age, without any detrimental influence on growth performance indices, while enzyme (xylanase) positively affected body weight gain and feed conversion ratio in younger chicks (1–21 days of age).

UTILIZATION  OF BANANA CORM (Musa paradisiaca L.) IN DIET ON BROILER CHICKENS PERFORMANCE. The research on the utilization of banana (Musa paradisiacaL.) corm in broiler diet aimed to determine its effect on the performance of broilers, namely the feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. The birds used were 100 unsexed days old chicks. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The composition of the treatment as follows: R0 = 55% corn + 0% banana corm meal (BCM), R1 = 50% corn + 5% BCM, R2 = 45% corn + 10% BCM, R3 = 40% corn + 15% BCM. The result showed that the treatment had a significantly different effect on feedintake, body weight, and feed conversion ratio. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that banana corm can be used up to 10% in broiler chicken diet.

Body weight and carcass characteristics of broilers was investigated in a feeding experiment using 135 broilers of Abor acre strain in a completely randomised design that lasted for eight weeks at the Teaching and Research farm, Department of Agricultural education, Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka Lagos Nigeria. The birds were randomly allotted to three dietary treatments of 45 chicks per treatment. Each treatment was replicated three times (15 chicks per replicate). Three isocaloric (2713.41 and 2918.76 Kcal/kg starter and finisher diets respectively) and isonitrogenous (Starter 24%CP and Finisher 20.37%) diets were formulated. The control diet was without mixture of ginger and garlic. The two other diets were T1:7.5g Ginger plus 7.5g Garlic mixture/25kg diet and T2: 15g Ginger plus 15g Garlic mixture/25kg diet. The experimental diets (starter and finisher diets) were offered to the respective bids with water ad libitum. The body weight gain (Kg) of birds fed control, T1 and T2:1.85, 1.90 and 1.74 respectively were not significantly different (p > 0.05).The feed intake (kg); 4.77, 4.22 and 4.02; and feed conversion ratio: 2.70; 2.22 and 2.31 for birds on control, T1 and T2 respectively were not different (p > 0.05) too. Birds on diet T2 recorded the highest liveability percentage (96%). Mixtures of ginger and garlic in ratio 1.1 up to 7.5g each in 25kg diets slightly increased final body weight gain and liveability; improved feed conversion ratio (FCR), reduced feed intake and dressed carcass percentage significantly (p<0.05) reduced weight of internal organs like liver, heart, kidney and gizzard. The increased final body weight gain and liveability as well as improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) of birds could possibly be due to improvement in feed digestion, additive advantage of nutrients and the anti-microbial property of the mixtures of ginger and garlic in the diets. While the reduced feed intake and dressed carcass percentage may be responsible for by the high fiber content, and some anti-nutritional factors in the ginger and garlic mixtures.Keywords: body weight, carcass characteristics, broiler chicken, Allium sativum, Zingiber officinale

The aim of the study was to know the effect of Curcuma xanthorhiza as herbal feed additive on feed consumption, daily body weight gain and feed conversion ratio of Kampung Unggul Balitnak (KUB) Chicken. The research was conducted at Kemukus Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung Regency. The experimental used 80 unisex KUB chicken aged 5 week. They were feed a ration with control ration + 0% temulawak flour (P0), control ration + 0,1% temulawak flour (P1), control ration + 0,2% temulawak flour (P2) and control ration + 0,3% temulawak flour (P4) during 30 days. The control ration containing 21% crude protein and 3150 kcal/kg metabolism energy. The study used a quantitative method with completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replications. The results showed that the addition of temulawak flour (Curcuma xanthoriza) up to 0.3% did not effect (P> 0.05) on feed consumption but was affected (P <0.05) on daily body weight gain and feed conversion ratio. This study aimed to determine the effect of fish oil microcapsules (MMI) in feed on broiler performance. The research material is 80 head of broiler DOC and basal feed with 22% protein and energy metabolism of 3000 Kcal/kg. The research method was conducted using completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The first treatment (RA) is a feed containing 0.8% fish oil (control), the second treatment (RB) containing 2% MMI, the third (RC) containing 4% MMI, and the fourth (RD) containing 6% MMI. Variables measured: feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, and carcass percentage. Results of analysis of variance showed that the use of fish oil microcapsules to level 6% in broiler feed gives different effects are not noticeable for feed consumption and carcass percentage. As for the body weight gain and feed conversion ratio, the treatment gave a significantly different effect. From this study it can be concluded that the use of MMI (microencapsulated fish oil) with a level of 2% was more effective in improving body weight gain and decrease the feed conversion ratio of broiler compared with controls (unprotected fish oil).

Fungal fermented protein (FFP) was the alternative feedstuff from Aspergillus niger and can be an interesting choice in poultry diets because these product was containing 20.49 % of crude protein and high leucine (0.58 %), phenylalanine (0.58 %) and lysine (0.38 %) and contained no aflatoxin. The experiments were performed using a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 3 replications employing eight 1-day-old, mixed sex muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata) per experimental unit. The control birds were fed with a basal diet whereas the test birds were fed with FFP at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 % of diet. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. The feed intake of the starter showed no significant difference while the grower and finisher had higher feed intake with higher levels of FFP. In contrast, the high level of FFP yielded the lower final body weight and body weight gain, resulting in the high feed conversion ratio (4.38). For the performance of overall period, the ducks fed with 20 % FFP had higher average daily gain (29.40 g/b/d), body weight gain (2,471 g/b) and feed conversion ratio (3.63). No deaths were found in any pens and the ducks remained in good health.

Background: There has been great interest in the use of seaweed as a functional feed ingredient for poultry in the last decade. This study aimed to assess the effects of dietary seaweed inclusion on growth performance of broiler chickens by using a systematic review and meta-analysis approach. Methods: A systematic search of published research articles related to seaweed, broiler chickens, and growth performance was conducted using three online databases (Scopus, PubMed, and SciELO). Mean values, standard deviation, and sample size were extracted from each eligible study. The estimated effect size was then quantified using Hedges’ g with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Data were pooled using a fixed-effect model due to the absence of heterogeneity after being pre-checked using the I2 statistic. Results: A total of six studies (nine comparisons) involving 2,257 broiler chickens were accommodated in this study. The seaweed type consisted of seaweed blend, Laminaria japonica, Undaria pinnatifida, Hizikia fusiformis, and Ulva lactuca. The inclusion dose ranged from 2 to 30 g/kg, while the intervention duration ranged from 21 to 42 days. No substantial heterogeneity among studies (I2 = 0.00%) was found for feed intake, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. Dietary seaweed had no significant effect on feed intake (Hedges’ g = 0.19; 95% CI = -0.22 to 0.60; P = 0.280). However, broiler chickens fed dietary seaweed had superior body weight gain (Hedges’ g = 0.64; 95% CI = 0.22 to 1.06; P = 0.000) and preferable feed conversion ratio (Hedges’ g = -0.53; 95% CI = -0.95 to -0.11; P = 0.004). Conclusions: The current investigation highlights that dietary seaweed had growth-promoting potency for broiler chickens. However, more research on this issue is still required to build more comprehensive evidence.
