Healthy diet is an effort to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The use of scientific terms on nutrition information panels (NIP) is complicated and difficult to understand, so that it becomes an obstacle in delivering accurate nutritional information for consumers. Nutrients-Rich Foods (NRFn,3) Index provides an alternative to simplify NIP. In general, nutrient-rich foods are asso-ciated with high-priced products. This study aimed to analyze correlation between NRFn,3 index with nutrients fulfillment and price of products. NIP of dairy products and their analogues were used as research samples. The NRFn,3 index was determined using two calculation bases, 100 kcal and 100 g of ready-to-consume products. NRF12,3 index score in ready-to-drink (RTD) milk and instant powdered milk positively correlated with the fulfillment of 11 nutrients to encourage. The average NRF12,3 index score per 100 g of instant powdered milk was 91, higher than RTD milk which was only 76. As nutrient-dense foods, they had an index score of NRF12,3 per 100 kcal that was higher per 100 g. Products with higher NRF12,3 index scores tended to be marketed at higher price than that of lower ones.

Background: Saudi Arabia has faced a considerable rise of non-communicable diseases (NCD) over the past decade. Dietary changes are essential for treatment efficacy in various NCD, but local evidence indicates rather poor treatment compliance. Knowledge about the behavioral determinants of patients can help to improve intervention adherence. The self-determination theory proposes autonomy and competence perceptions towards healthy eating to play a determining role in motivation and behavioural regulation. The aim of this study was to explore diet practice, motivation, autonomy and competence perceptions in Saudi patients with NCD.Methods: A questionnaire-based, cross-sectional study was implemented to evaluate relationships between diet habits and autonomy and competence perceptions towards healthy diet practice in patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension in a governmental hospital in Riyadh. Results: 269 patients >18 years participated in the study. Self-reported diet was mediocre, characterized by low fruit and vegetable intake. Hypertensive patients showed substantially poorer diet and, at the same time, higher motivational quality compared to other patient groups (p<0.05). Generally, patients demonstrated moderate motivational quality and high perceived competence, but certain sub-populations with specific commonalities strongly deviated from the norm. Competence perceptions, autonomous, as well as controlled motivation correlated with healthy diet practice (p=0.000).Conclusions: Our results indicate that both, autonomous and controlled motivation influence positive diet practice in NCD patients. We suspect a patient-group-specific exposure to health education to impact motivational quality. The influence of psychological factors on patient health behaviour is still greatly underestimated in clinical dietary interventions in KSA.

Over the last decade, different proposals have emerged in Colombia and around the world re-garding food labeling conditions. The purpose of these measures has been focused on preventing non- communicable diseases (NCD), by providing clearer nutritional information to consumers regarding the food they consume on their diet. For this purpose, many proposals include the imposition of warning stamps on the label of food products that are “high in” sodium, sugar, or saturated fat, as well as other limitations on the use and marketing of the brands that identify their products. Therefore, this document aims to analyze the relevance and proportionality of the proposals in relation to the desired purposes, particularly with regard to the legitimate rights of trademark owners and consumers. In the conclusion, it will be determined that the interest in promoting regulations to reduce diseases related to poor eating habits, without an adequate evaluation of the environment in which these measures are intended to be applied, can: (i) generate undesirable and contradictory consequences with the ultimate goal of reducing diseases; (ii) impair other individual rights; and, (iii) act unjustifiably to the detriment of the industrial property rights of the trademark owners.

Objectives: Non-communicable diseases are non-infectious health conditions caused by genetic, physiological, environmental, and behavioral factors. Currently, non-communicable diseases account for almost two-thirds of deaths globally. This study aimed to explore the patients’ adherence level to the key recommendations, and the main barriers toward the practice of healthy behaviors among non-communicable diseases patients. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted among a representative sample of non-communicable diseases patients, receiving care in five primary healthcare centers in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. An interview-based questionnaire about demographics, medical history, and barriers toward the practice of healthy behaviors was developed and collected based on the health belief model and the theory of planned behaviors. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, chi-square, and Fisher’s exact test were used for analysis. Results: Four hundred patients with non-communicable diseases, aged (53.06 ± 10.03) years old, (56.8% females and 43.3% males) were included in this study. The patient’s adherence was reported as 50.1%, standard deviation = 18.3 in terms of attended regular physical activity, and 44.0%, standard deviation = 15.4 in terms of eating a healthy diet. The main barriers to being active among patients were lack of accessibility to materials, lack of social support, and lack of reminder; while in terms of eating a healthy diet were lack of accessibility to materials, lack of social support, and lack of self-efficacy. Conclusion: The non-communicable diseases patients’ adherence to healthy behaviors is suboptimal. Varied implementation strategies targeting the main barriers are extremely required to enhance the access to physical activity infrastructure, affordable healthy diet options, and to reinforce the change toward healthy behaviors at all levels.

Abstract. Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have received more attention because of high prevalence and mortality rate. Besides genetic and environmental factors, the epigenetic abnormality is also involved in the pathogenesis of NCDs. Methylation of DNA, chromatin remodeling, modification of histone, and long non-coding RNAs are the main components of epigenetic phenomena. Methodology: In this review paper, the mechanistic role of vitamins and dietary patterns on epigenetic modification was discussed. All papers indexed in scientific databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Google Scholar, and Elsevier were searched during 2000 - 2021 using, vitamins, diet, epigenetic repression, histones, methylation, acetylation, and NCDs as keywords. Results: The components of healthy dietary patterns like Mediterranean and dietary approaches to stop hypertension diets have a beneficial effect on epigenetic hemostasis. Both quality and quantity of dietary components influence epigenetic phenomena. A diet with calorie deficiency in protein content and methyl-donor agents in a long time, with a high level of fat, disrupts epigenetic hemostasis and finally, causes genome instability. Also, soluble and insoluble vitamins have an obvious role in epigenetic modifications. Most vitamins interact directly with methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation pathways of histone and DNA. However, numerous indirect functions related to the cell cycle stability and genome integrity have been recognized. Conclusion: Considering the crucial role of a healthy diet in epigenetic homeostasis, adherence to a healthy dietary pattern containing enough levels of vitamin and avoiding the western diet seems to be necessary. Having a healthy diet and consuming the recommended dietary level of vitamins can also contribute to epigenetic stability.

Fermented dairy products are the good source of different species of live lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are beneficial microbes well characterized for their health-promoting potential. Traditionally, dietary intake of fermented dairy foods has been related to different health-promoting benefits including antimicrobial activity and modulation of the immune system, among others. In recent years, emerging evidence suggests a contribution of dairy LAB in the prophylaxis and therapy of non-communicable diseases. Live bacterial cells or their metabolites can directly impact physiological responses and/or act as signalling molecules mediating more complex communications. This review provides up-to-date knowledge on the interactions between LAB isolated from dairy products (dairy LAB) and human health by discussing the concept of the food–gut-health axis. In particular, some bioactivities and probiotic potentials of dairy LAB have been provided on their involvement in the gut–brain axis and non-communicable diseases mainly focusing on their potential in the treatment of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, inflammatory bowel diseases, and cancer.

ZusammenfassungDie 65.

Environmental health is referring to the health of people in relation to environmental quality. Due to rapid urbanisation, more people are living in urban neighbourhoods. Urban planning and design aspects including the neighbourhood environment are potentially affecting the human healthy lifestyle and health condition. Thus, the relationship between Malaysian neighbourhood environmental aspects and human health has become the concern of this research. One of the neighbourhood units in Shah Alam city had been chosen as the study area for this purpose. Questionnaire survey had been carried out to examine the health condition and physical activeness of residents. Besides, the perception of residents on the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects also had been collected in the questionnaire survey. The health condition of residents was measured by non-communicable diseases (NCD) and the physical activeness was measured in duration as well as the frequency of physical exercise activities. The study found that the quality of neighbourhood environmental aspects significantly increased the physical activeness of respondents. The physical activeness was positively associated with human health as measured in NCD (heart diseases and high blood pressure, HBP). It shows that neighbourhood environmental (physical and social) aspects are potentially affecting the healthy life of people living in the neighbourhood. Keywords: Healthy life, Neighbourhood environment, Non-communicable diseases (NCD), Physical activeness, Quality.
