The process of thinking in formulating a mathematical model requires cognitive processes. In learning mathematics, one of the factors that influence mathematics ability is gender differences. This research explores and provides an overview of the cognitive processes, especially using the representational form in mathematical modeling regarding gender differences. The type of research used is descriptive exploratory with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 36 pre-service teachers in the mathematics education study program, consists of 18 males and 18 females. The instruments were a written test and an interview guide sheet. The result shows that males get higher percentages than females to answer the representational problem correctly. In conclusion, both males and females solve the graph problem using representative form through three components of the cognitive process. The first and second component, namely knowing and applying, shows the same behavior: retrieving the information from the mathematical problem and displaying the information into the graph. For the third component, reasoning also offers the same behavior because the truth of the graph that justifies refers to the mathematical properties. The study implies that it might be the same treatment for males and females to improve representational form regarding the components of cognitive process, namely, knowing, applying, and reasoning.

Problem solving is the main focus in learning mathematics at the primary and secondary school level. Prospective teachers must be prepared as well as possible as problem solvers and problem solving instructors. The purpose of this study was to describe the prospective teacher's ability to make a problem solving question based on category of good mathematical problem solving questions. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were students of semester VI of the 2019/2020 academic year of the IAIN Takengon Mathematics Education Study Program. Based on the research results, it shows that the subjects in general already understood the theory of problem solving , but this understanding did not always directly proportional to the ability to make a mathematical problem solving question.

: The use of learning media is one of the critical success factors in higher education, therefore an educator must have innovation to use of learning media. The purpose of this research is to develop learning media based on the Inspiring Suit 8 on arbitration material courses of theoretical and practice for Volleyball 1 academic year 2018/2019 at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. The existence of media will be a big successful support in learning process, so that students do not feel boredom because of the weaknesses of the lecturers, in which they are unable to provided good learning variation or even have difficulty in conveying or transferring knowledge. The research was descriptive qualitative design. The research subjects were students of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Study Program who took volleyball theory and practice courses in the even semester academic year 2018/2019. The instruments used were the media expert review questionnaire, the learning expert questionnaire, and the trial analysis questionnaire. The questionnaire will be analyzed to see the feasibility of the developed media. Based on the data results review by media expert volleyball, media learning expert and field trials, it can be concluded that media developed is useful in learning process. In addition, it is used to provide independent motivation, which can be used in lesson for students.

This study looked at how males and females were portrayed, based on the amount of skin shown in the clothing worn.  A Content analysis was performed on a sample of 20 randomly selected popular comics from the last 3 years.  Both male and female characters were rated on how much skin they showed in three clothing categories; neck line, sleeve length, and lower body.  Results showed that in all 3 categories, women consistently wore more revealing clothing.  The findings demonstraetd that the comic book industry is comparable to other forms of media, in the sexualization of female characters, by having them wear more revealing clothing.

The skills to construct and interpret graphs are a form of science skills and are an important component in learning physics. The purpose of this study was to describe the ability of undergraduate physics education students to construct graphs based on practicum data and interpret them. Data obtained through respondent answer sheets, thinking-aloud recordings, and interviews. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Untad and the research subjects of the Physics Education Study Program students were 6 people obtained based on the values of Basic Physics I and Basic Physics practicum II then divided into three groups of levels (high, medium, and low) with each category as many as 2 people. The results of this study indicate: 1) in general, respondents in the high, medium, and low categories can construct graphs but are not based on the prerequisite ability to construct graphs, especially in determining the x-axis and y-axis variables, 2) on the ability to interpret graphs, respondents can interpret graphs the relationship between variables on the graph but not supported by an explanation or evaluation based on proper physics concepts, 3) The strategy used by respondents in constructing graphs, in general, is to convert data in decimal form or scientific notation and 4) The difficulties experienced by respondents when constructing graphs are converting data, determining the scale and how to determine the variables on each graph axis.

AbstractVessel traffic service (VTS) is important to protect the safety of maritime traffic. Along with the expansion of monitoring area per VTS operator in Tokyo Bay, Japan, inexperienced operators must acquire the ability to quickly and accurately detect conditions that requires attention (CRAs) from a monitoring screen. In our previous study (Song B, Itoh H, Kawamura Y, Fukuto J (2018) Analysis of Cognitive Processes of Operators of Vessel Traffic Service. In: Proceedings of the 2018 International Association of Institutes of Navigation. IAIN 2018, pp 529–534, Song et al., J Jpn Inst Navig 140:48–54, 2019), we established a task analysis method based on the assumption that the cognitive process model consists of three stages: “situational awareness”, “situation judgment”, and “decision making”. A simulation experiment was conducted for VTS operators with different levels of ability and their cognitive processes were compared based on the observation of eye movements. The results showed that the inexperienced operators’ abilities to predict situation changes were lower. And it was considered that oral transmission of the knowledge is difficult, thus new training methods are needed to help the inexperienced operators to understand the prediction methods of experienced operators. In this study, based on the cognitive process of an experienced operator, we analyzed the prediction procedures of situation changes and developed an educational tool called vessel traffic routine (VTR). The training method learning VTR aims to quickly improve inexperienced VTS operators’ abilities to predict situation changes. A simulation verification experiment of the VTR effect was conducted for four inexperienced operators, who were divided into two groups with and without prior explanation of VTR. By evaluating the cognitive processes of inexperienced operators, it was confirmed that those given prior explanations of VTR were better at detecting CRAs.

Introduction Binge eating is a common behaviour that is strongly linked to both obesity and eating disorder. There is evidence that binge eating commonly co-occurs with other problematic and addictive-like behaviours; however, this has not been explored systematically. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between binge eating, body weight, disordered eating behaviours and associated addictive-like behaviours, with particular attention paid to gender differences. Method A community sample ( N = 500; 75% female, Mage = 32.5 years) reported disordered eating behaviours (i.e. binge eating, purging, restriction of eating, compulsive exercise), body mass index (BMI), food addiction, starvation addiction, exercise dependence, tobacco use and alcohol consumption. Results 42% of females and 21% of males reported binge eating during the past four weeks. Binge eating was significantly associated with all investigated behaviours in females, and with purging, compulsive exercise and overweight/obesity in males. Controlling for BMI, self-starvation predicted binge eating in males (OR = 1.07), while food addiction (OR = 1.73) and alcohol dependence (OR = 1.11) predicted binge eating in females. Conclusions The multiple associations between binge eating and addictive-like behaviors supports broad screening and generalized prevention efforts. Prevention efforts should reflect gender differences.
