This undergraduate thesis examines the type of transitive verbs found in a children story entitled “Pinocchio”, which was taken from the children story book entitled Disney Storyland Treasury, and analyzes the degree of transitivity found in the story. The data were collected using the documentation method and were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. In addition, in order to present the data analysis clearly, both formal and informal methods were used since the data were described in form of sentences and tables. The main theory applied in this study is proposed by Hopper and Thompson (1980) about transitivity, who said that transitivity is a matter of degree and partly because obviousness of change in the object. This theory is supported by the types of verb proposed by Givon (1984), which is used to find out the types of verb in the story. The finding of the analysis showed that there were three types of verbs found in the story namely state verb, action verb and process verb. Each verb has different degree of transitivity, where the degree of state verb is categorized as low in transitivity, action and process verbs have the highest degree of parameter of transitivity.

This presentation, reflecting a politics undergraduate thesis, will explore the design process behind the ballots that voters use in democratic elections around the world. Ballots are an inherently political objects, and in many cases, the most direct line of communication a citizen has to the government of their country. As such, the design of the ballot affects the legitimacy of higher level electoral and democratic institutions. This project argues that by co-opting the language of product design, a universal ballot design process would make more efficient ballots across the globe.   Product design starts with a brainstorming stage that explores at the user, the goal of the object, and the context of its use to create an effective design. By applying these observations to the process of designing a ballot, each electoral commission can produce a more effective ballot. Currently there is no standardization for ballot design other than ensuring that electoral commissions tried to make it “friendly.” By examining cases of bad ballot design, it is possible to see what element of the design process was missed or misused to create a process that corrects for these mistakes. This project examines poorly designed ballots in Florida, Scotland, and Colombia to explore the large-scale effects these small design choices make, and how to fix them.

This article responds to Stoten’s (2016) article in Management Teaching Review on the use of PebblePad+ (PP+) to support learning, teaching, and assessment. We examined the realities of efforts to engender curriculum change using PP+ on a large undergraduate thesis course within a U.K. business school. We analyzed 2,143 emails between the 123 supervising-faculty and the professors leading the course. Field notes supplemented these data. We have demonstrated that while 18 supervising-faculty asserted the value of the use of PP+ (14.6%), the majority of faculty (54.5%) expressed concerns about using this technology, with eight supervisors failing to use the technology at all. We propose that these latter reactions resulted from a lack of self-efficacy with technology, a perceived task–technology mismatch, and perhaps, most significant, a threatened sense-of-self as “expert” in the eyes of their students and peers. We offer three key recommendations for readers who are considering technology-mediated change.

This meta-analysis aims to determine the effect of research characteristics on the effect size of the direct instruction learning model in the undergraduate thesis of the Physics Education Study Program FKIP UNTAN, published in 2016-2019. This type of research is a survey research with purposive sampling technique consisting of 6 theses. Data collection techniques in this research are documentary studies. The results of undergraduate thesis Physics Education study programs that use the direct instruction learning model obtained an average effect size of 1.00 which high effectiveness categories based on the John Hattie barometer. In this study, there are 2 characteristics of researchers examined, among others: the gender of the researcher and Grade Point Average (GPA) of the researcher. Based on the 2 characteristics of the researchers, it did not have a significant effect on the effect size of the undergraduate students' thesis in the Physics Education study program that uses the direct instruction learning model. In this study there were 13 characteristics of the methodology studied including: research location, school level, sample size, number of classes, number of meetings, material sub-fields, learning tools or media, test reliability coefficient, instrument validity, test forms, forms of research, designs experiments, and data collection tools. Of the 13 characteristics of the methodology, it did not have a significant effect on the effect size of the undergraduate students' thesis in the Physics Education study program that used the direct instruction learning model.Kata Kunci: Meta-analisis, Skripsi, Model Pembelajaran Direct Instruction

ResumenLa desnormativización de la vida social en la época contemporánea está dejando a nuestras juventudes con un problema de crisis de sentido. El repliegue de las instituciones tradicionales que otorgaban significación implica una progresiva individualización de los proyectos de vida, que se manifiesta como un sentimiento de permanente búsqueda. Las juventudes viven en una situación de “intemperie moral”, en donde ya nadie les garantiza que sus comportamientos estén en lo correcto en un sentido claro y único. Frente a ello, una solución posible corresponde a la emergencia de una configuración valórica en torno a la noción de autocuidado. Esta involucra la formación de una cautela reflexiva, que permite la protección de la propia subjetividad en un mundo donde las normas están relativizadas, evitando consecuencias no deseadas y sorteando, provisoriamente, el problema de la demanda por sentido. Para analizar adecuadamente este fenómeno, se recurrió a una estrategia metodológica cualitativa, a partir de la técnica del grupo de discusión. Cabe señalar, por último, que el presente artículo fue realizado en el marco de una tesis de pregrado becada por el proyecto FONDECYT Nº 1070105: “Cultura juvenil y producción valórica en estudiantes de educación secundaria y de educación superior”.Palabras clave: Crisis Normativa, Proyecto De Vida, AutocuidadoAbstractThe tendency to having a lack of regulations of social life in contemporary times is leaving our young people with a problem of sense crisis. The retreat of the traditional institutions that gave meaning implies a progressive individualization of life projects, which is shown as a feeling of permanent search. Youngsters live in a situation of “moral neglect”, where nobody is able to guarantee that their behavior is correct in a clear and unique sense. In this respect, a possible solution corresponds to the emergence of a value configuration around the notion of self- care. This involves the formation of a cautious reflection, which allows the protection of their own subjectivity in a world where the rules are relativized, avoiding unintended consequences and to avoid, temporarily, the problem of demand of meaning. To properly analyze this phenomenon, a qualitative methodological strategy was used, based on the group discussion technique. It should be noticed, finally, that this article was conducted as part of an undergraduate thesis scholarship from the FONDECYT project No. 1070105: “Youth culture and values production in students of secondary and higher education.”

Dr. Sanjur’s relationship with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute spans three decades.    In 1989, she was a research assistant for two years working on her undergraduate thesis project. After earning a B.S. in Biology from the University of Panama, she completed a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.  She returned to STRI as a postdoctoral fellow in 1998, studying the relationships between wild and domesticated crops such as squash and pumpkin.    She then spent ten years as manager and researcher of the Molecular Evolution laboratory, after which she took on her most recent role as Associate Director for Science Administration at STRI. In this position, she became responsible for maintaining high standards of scientific operational support for the Institute’s research programs throughout a decade.

<p>This research aims to find syntactic complexity of the abstracts in the undergraduate thesis written down by university learners in Indonesia and the ones written down by native speakers of English. The characteristics of syntactic complexity produced by Indonesian learners and the learners who are the native speakers should also be analyzed. It is possible to extend the type of syntactic complexity found in academic texts. In the end, those extensions should be characterized the English language used by Indonesian learners. The data is gained through downloading the abstracts of the undergraduate thesis in the academic year of 2015-2016 from the UBM English Department alumni database. The data regarding the abstracts written down by the native speakers is downloaded from the reputable universities in The United States of America. After that, the data is analyzed by making used of the syntactic analyzer by Lu &amp; Ai (2015). The results shows that the Indonesian learners tend to write more complex sentences and use subordination in the abstracts. The native speakers, on the other hands, tend to write longer sentences with longer T-Unit and clauses. They also tend to write complex nominal in the abstracts. The number of coordination used is similar between the ones written down by Indonesian learners and native speakers of English. <strong></strong></p><strong>Keywords:</strong> syntactic complexity, syntactic structures, undergraduate thesis, Indonesian learners

Literary works, such as novel, usually comes from the writer’s feeling; it could be the feeling of love, frustrations, angers, satisfactions, disappointments, satire, and many other feelings towards an individual, social, organizations, even the government. A novel could also be some kind of warning towards the readers so that they could be cautious if there are any similar events happen in their real life. The main objective of this research explains the American manipulative leadership and the American cultural values seen in Ender’s Game and to analyze the effect of American Manipulative Leadership towards its Subordinate shows by Ender’s Game. The researcher uses the qualitative method to analyze the primary data and the supporting data using content analysis to interpret the images, symbols, and words.    This undergraduate thesis concludes two major points. Firstly, American manipulative leadership uses two values; which are risk-taking and the future, change, and progress and forgotten two other values, directness/openness/honesty and freedom of American Cultural values. Secondly, American manipulative leaderships also affect the subordinate psychological condition. And novel can also be called as a popular culture due to its enormous achievement and its consumption by the mass.
