The article explores the features of the interpretation of the concept of the competitiveness of enterprises by modern domestic and foreign economists. The directions of increasing the competitiveness of enterprises in modern conditions are justified, namely: innovative development of enterprises based on internal and external growth reserves and investment support for the comprehensive development of enterprises. The relationship between the investment and innovation components of enterprise development and their competitiveness under market conditions is determined. The implementation of these areas will contribute to improving the efficiency of the operation of the enterprise, improving its performance. Simultaneous combination of the use of these areas will increase the competitiveness of enterprises at the regional level and the level of the state as a whole. In the process of studying the competitiveness of modern enterprises, emphasis is placed on the regional aspect of their functioning. It is determined that in order to increase the competitiveness of enterprises, it is necessary to take into account the limitations and type of the market on which the enterprise operates. The main tools of the theory of restrictions are the passage, investment and operating costs of the enterprise. The management of these tools at the enterprise will increase the profitability and productivity of the enterprise and as a result - will increase the level of competitiveness of the enterprise in the conditions of market change.

This chapter considers the management of local governments in a growing information society. We highlight two proposed models for the management of local governments. The first model is the IT progress stage. This stage considered the previously published literature. The second model is the management level model. This model indexed the appearance of management activities learned from an original empirical survey completed in 2009. We analyzed the relationship between the IT progress stage and the management level model. Thereafter, we proposed a common progress stage model for local governments.

Even though the effects of leadership and affective commitment on innovative work behaviours (IWBs) have been thoroughly researched, little is known about the interactive effects of these factors on IWBs. Based on data collected from 263 respondents from public and private organisations in Lesotho, the present study examines if affective commitment moderates the relationship between leadership and IWB. Drawing on literatures across management and innovation research domains, the study proposes and finds evidence that affective commitment moderates the relationship between leadership and IWB such that the relationship is stronger for affectively committed employees, while being relatively weaker for less affectively committed employees. The results also reveal that while leadership and management level have the main effects on IWB, affective commitment has no effect on IWB. Overall, the study responds to calls for examining the joint effects of person and context characteristics on IWBs. Drawing on our results, we discuss implications for theory and practice.

The sectoral study aims to undertake an assessment of the relationship between ‘’employee career management’’ and ‘’employee work engagement’’ including the relationships between the sub-dimensions of these two constructs by adopting standard instruments i.e. Organization Career Management (OCM) scale and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). The study was undertaken in the IT companies of Visakhapatnam district using a non-probability and convenience sampling method. Data collection was undertaken using a valid and reliable survey questionnaire and were subjected to statistical analysis (Descriptive Analysis, Correlation Analysis, and Multiple Regression Analysis) using software tools like SPSS and Excel. The study was limited to employees of IT Companies working in middle and junior management level with different demographic profiles. Results of the study demonstrated that, by attainment of all the sub-dimensional aspirations of the construct, ‘employee career management’ (i.e. development programme, appraisal, and training) has significant effects on all sub-dimensions of the construct ‘employee work engagement’ (i.e. Vigour, Dedication and Absorption). KEY WORDS: OCM, UWES, CDP-Career Development Programme, CAA-Career Appraisal & Advice. CTR-Career Training.

This study critically reviewed literature on the relationship between working capital management and earnings management. The specific objectives of the study included determination of documented evidence on; the relationship between working capital management and earnings management, the existence of target working capital management level and target earnings management level and knowledge gaps between the two study variables. Findings on the first objective were conflicting with some researchers establishing a positive relationship, others a negative relationship whereas others were non-conclusive. Findings on the second objective were also conflicting. The divergence in findings were attributed to differences in conceptual, methodological and contextual setups with inconsistencies in operationalization of the study variables playing a pivotal role. The study revealed a biased inclination towards usage of accounting accruals as proxies for earnings management with no consideration for non-accounting accruals like real earnings managements. The study also identified lack of related studies in frontier economies as a potential research gap paving way for future related studies with expanded scope. The study further recommended future research on determination of an optimal working capital level that minimizes real earnings management.

Earnings management behaviour lowers the quality of accounting information of private enterprises to a certain extent. Hence, it is necessary to study the relationship between political connection and earnings management of private enterprises. Through the investigation and statistics of the private companies in China’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Board Market from 2013 to 2017, this paper performs empirical analysis to verify the relationship between political connection and earnings management. It shows that political connection can weaken accrual-based earnings management level, which helps private firms obtain more preferential policies and financing help. Based on the above conclusions, this paper puts forward the corresponding policy recommendations, which provide reference for the governance of private enterprises and the capital market.

Sharia compliance hotel has been created to cater to Muslim guests as demand and awareness for Islamic products and services increased. This innovative development can be found in countries where Muslim residents are the majority like Malaysia and Indonesia. However, there is a limited of study on the sharia compliance hotel acceptance among hoteliers particularly in Malaysia. Thus, the main purpose of the study is to examine the factors that contribute to the acceptance of sharia compliance hotel concept implementation among hoteliers. This study focuses on the middle management level employees in 3-5 star hotel situated in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Drawing from Theory of Planned Behaviour, the specific research objectives are three-fold: 1) to examine the relationship between attitude and sharia compliance hotel acceptance, 2) to investigate the relationship between subjective norm and sharia compliance hotel acceptance, and 3) to examine the relationship between perceived behavioural control and sharia compliance hotel acceptance. The study utilized quantitative research approach to achieve the stated research objectives. For data collection, a self-administered questionnaire was deployed which was developed based on previous studies. For the purpose of the study, the data collection was conducted in fifteen hotels in the Klang Valley that include hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. The results verified hotelier’s attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control are salient attributes of sharia compliance hotel acceptance in the hotel industry. The research model based on the theory of planned behavior managed to explain more than 60 per cent of the variance in sharia compliance hotel acceptance.

This study was conducted to present the relationship between the privatization of zakat administration to human resource management. Data collection was done qualitatively through library research and interviews. The study population consisted of selected states. While the study sample is Johor, Perak, Selangor, Penang and the Federal Territory. Overall, the study proves that the implications of privatization in the administration of zakat provide several advantages compared to states that do not practice privatization. States that do not implement privatization are seen to have difficulty adding new staff and assigning permanent positions to contract staff. This makes it difficult to further expand zakat operations. For states that implement the privatization of zakat, they can determine their own operating travel activities. Each new staff application only needs to be approved at the internal management level of the company according to current needs, and if the management approves it then the company can advertise the vacancy into the mainstream media. This study also suggests that a more detailed study be done on the impact of privatization on the effectiveness and efficiency of zakat administration in Malaysia.

The relationship that exists between industry and higher education in the Western economies is being mirrored in the transforming economies of the former Soviet Union. This paper reports on a recent investigation into the professional and academic fields of finance and accounting and in particular into the work by British and Russian university peers. There are, however, general observations which would be applicable across all fields of expertise. The case is set within the context of a UK government ‘Know How Fund’ project. The authors argue that peer education has a significant role to play in providing a mechanism for knowledge transfer, both professional and academic. They further argue that this knowledge transfer is crucial to enterprise development within a developing market economy.
