Introduction: Psychomotor development (PMD) reflects the cerebral maturation through sensory, motor and psychological acquisitions of an individual. Its evaluation allows an early diagnosis of delays in order to take care of them. The objective of this study was to determine the profile and explanatory factors of PMD of infants in N'Djamena. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the “Notre Dame des Apôtres” Hospital in N'Djamena. It involved 428 infants aged 1 to 24 months received in preventive consultation between October 2017 and June 2018. The Denver II scale was used for the assessment of PMD. Data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 software. Results: the sex ratio was 1.06. The most represented age group was under 3 months (35.5%). The items of gross motor skills were 95% completed, fine motor skills 93.8%, language 84.6% and sociability 68.8% at the 90th percentile. Development was advanced in 56.8% normal in 32.1% and delayed in 2.1%. Statistically significant differences in PMD were observed according to age group (p= 0.000), vaccination status (p= 0.002), feeding mode (p= 0.000), maternal exchange (p= 0.000) and pregnancy follow-up (p= 0.03). Conclusion: The psychomotor development of N'Djamenese infants is similar to that of other African children, although some variations are noted. It is influenced by certain factors related to the infant and the mother.

Introduction: Congenital cataract is turbidity occurs in eye lens that present at birth or immediately after. We aim to find out visual acuity after congenital surgery between children under 2 years old and 2-17 years old after following up 3, 6, 12 months.Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Data were gathered from medical record of congenital cataract aged ≤2 years and >2-17 years including age of surgery, frequency of eyes, sex, laterality, and visual acuity of patients with best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). All data analyzed using Mann-Whitney test.Results: 41 children (67 affected eyes) in which 45 eyes that were operated at aged ≤2 years and 22 eyes were operated at aged >2-17 years. There was average difference of visual acuity between age group of ≤2 years and >2-17 years while following-up 3 months (1.60 ± 0.34 logMAR, 1.23 ± 0.67 logMAR, p = 0,003). Whereas in follow up 6 months (1.23 ± 0.47 logMAR, 1.15 ± 0.68 logMAR, p = 0,242) and 12 months (0.94 ± 0.47 logMAR, 0.96 ± 0.44 logMAR, p = 0,840), there were no difference significant average of visual acuity.Conclusion: Visual acuity after following-up 3 and 6 months in age group of >2-17 years were better than age group of ≤2 years, whereas after following-up 12 months in age group ≤2 years, it was obtained that visual acuity was better than age group of >2-17 years.

KNOWLEDGE AMONG MOTHERS OF  PRESCHOOL CHILDREN IN MOTOR DEVELOPMENTBackground: Motorskill development is the development of physical movement control through coordinated central nerve and muscle activities. Motor skilldevelopment is divided into two, gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills involve large parts of the body, such as: walking, jumping, running and so on. Smaller groups of muscle movements are called fine motor skills, such as: writing, drawing, wearing scissors, and so on. One factor that influence children's development is mother's knowledge. Mothers who have good knowledge will tend to pay attention and stimulate their children’s development.Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine the relations of mothers’ knowledge about children’s growth and development with gross and fine motor skills development of children aged 4-5 years old in Pesawaran Lampung Kindergarten in 2018.Methods: The design used in this research is analytic by using a cross sectional approach. The population in this research were all mothers with children aged 4-5 years old at Pesawaran Lampung Kindergarten, with a sample of 58 people, while sampling techniques were taken using the total population method. The analysis of the research uses univariate and bivariate analysis which use the chi-square test.Results: The results of this research are there is no relationship between mothers’ knowledge about children’s development and growth with gross motor skills development (p-value = 0.622) and fine motor skills development (p-value = 0.614) of children aged 4-5 years old at Pesawaran Lampung Kindergarten in 2018.Conclution: There is no relationship between maternal knowledge about the development of children with gross motoric and fine motor development of children 4-5 years in Pesawaran Lampung kindergarten in 2018. It is expected that parents can find sources information about the children’s growth and development, so parents can provide stimulation of children’s motor skills development.Latar Belakang: Menurut WHO (2014), diperkirakan 5-10% anak mengalami keterlambatan perkembangan. Diperkirakan sekitar 1–3% khusus pada anak dibawah usia 5 tahun di Indonesia mengalami keterlambatan perkembangan umum yang meliputi perkembangan motorik, bahasa, sosio–emosional, dan kognitif (Kemenkes, 2016). Perkembangan motorik merupakan perkembangan pengendalian gerakan jasmaniah melalui kegiatan pusat syaraf dan otot yang terkoordinasi.Perkembangan motorik terbagi menjadi dua yaitu motorik kasar dan motorik halus Salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi perkembangan anak adalah pengetahuan ibu. Ibu yang berpengetahuan baik maka akan cenderung untuk memperhatikan dan menstimulasi perkembangan anak terutama perkembangan anak.Tujuan: untuk mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan ibu tentang perkembangan anak dengan perkembangan motorik kasar dan halus anak usia 4-5 tahun di TK Pesawaran, Lampung tahun 2018.Metode: Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analitik dengan menggunakan metode pendekatan cross sectional.  Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah semua ibu dengan anak usia 4 – 5 tahun di TK  Pesawaran, Lampung dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 58 orang, sedangkang teknik sampling yang diambil dengan menggunakan metode total populasi. Purpose To report and evaluate strabismus surgery in children with Angelman syndrome, in order to optimize and standardize surgical approach. Other purposes are to understand the possible relation between ocular findings and motor ability, and between improvement in ocular alignment and changes in motor skills in this population. Design Observational cross-sectional study. Methods Medical records of pediatric patients with Angelman syndrome, who underwent strabismus surgery, were investigated. Collected data included: genotype, gender, age at the time of surgery, refractive error, pre-operative strabismus, surgical procedure, surgical outcome, gross and fine motor development assessment pre- and post-operatively. Results Seventeen subjects, aged 3–15 years, were investigated. Fourteen patients were exotropic, three esotropic. Most patients presented astigmatism. Considering the exaggerated response to standard amounts of surgery and the risk of consecutive strabismus on long term follow-up reported by previous studies in children with developmental delay, a reduction of the amount of strabismus surgery was applied. Post-operatively, all patients presented with a significative reduction of the baseline deviation angle, with all esotropic patients and 7 exotropic patients (59%) achieving orthotropia. The surgical outcomes were variable according to the type and the amount of baseline strabismus, but no case presented with exaggerated surgical response. At baseline, patients showed important delays in all motor abilities, and, post-operatively, presented a significant improvement in walking and fine motor tasks. Pre- and post-operative motor abilities were negatively correlated to astigmatism, anisometropia, and amount of deviation. Conclusions According to our data, the standard nomograms for strabismus surgery may be successfully applied in subjects with Angelman syndrome and exotropia. Our data suggest that the reduction of the deviation angle improves motor skills in strabismic pediatric patients with Angelman syndrome.

Background: Since the incidence of the primary carcinoma of the liver in Warangal is very high when compared to other parts of the country, the possible etiological factors have been studied for the increasing frequency of Primary carcinoma of the liver with a view for further follow up. The objective of the present study was to undertake a thorough study of histopathological changes, typing and its association with cirrhosis.Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried for a period of three years among 56 cases of primary carcinoma of the liver at MGM hospital. Institutional Ethics Committee permission was obtained. Informed consent was taken from each and every patient. Detailed history, clinical examination and investigations were carried out for each and every included patient. Liver biopsy was done under strict aseptic precautions.Results: The incidence of Primary carcinoma of the liver was found to be highest in males as compared to females. The highest incidence of Primary carcinoma of the liver was found in the age group of 41-50 years. In only 14.3% of cases the Primary carcinoma of the liver was associated with cirrhosis of liver. The most common type of cell found on histopathology was cylindroids type in 35.7% of cases followed by trabecular type in 28.5% of cases.Conclusions: Incidence of Primary carcinoma of the liver was found to be very high. This was not associated with corresponding increase in cirrhosis. The cause of their increase was obscure.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the psychomotor development and the fine motor control of institutionalized and non-institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study in which 54 subjects participated and were divided into two groups: 27 institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents (SG) and 27 non-institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents (CG). The psychomotor battery and the Learning and Motor Control software were used to evaluate development and motor control. The analysis of variance was performed for both groups with repetitive measurements for the last factor. Results: The SG presented a total development score inferior to the CG, with differences in tonicity (p=0.041) and body awareness (p=0.039). The longest distance was performed on Task 1 (M=983.9 pixels; diagonal line; distance of 930.053 pixels), with no difference between the groups (p=0.64). Furthermore, the SG presented a greater average time in Task 1 (M=16.12 seconds) when compared with Tasks 2 (M=11.6 seconds; horizontal line; distance of 750 pixels) and 3 (M=10.6; vertical line; distance of 550 pixels), but only marginally different between Tasks 2 and 3 (p=0.055). Regarding the number of correct answers, the CG scored more (M=6.1) when compared with SG (M=4.6), with p<0.05. Conclusions: The institutionalized individuals showed a psychomotor development inferior to the CG. Furthermore, they presented impairment in fine motor control, covering a larger distance on the task that required the diagonal movement, longer execution time, less correct answers, and more errors.

Introduction: WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for newborn sup to six month sofage. Exclusive breastfeeding is given forinfantonlybreastmilk, not given food or other fluids, evenwater, except for vitamins, minerals, ormedicines. Exclusive breast feeding has a positive effect on the motor development of infants in earlylife. This study aimed to determine the relationship between breastfeeding with gross and fine motor skills development in infants 6-12 months. Methods: The design was a cross-sectional study, a total sample of 43 infants with a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument used questionnaires and interviews to obtain data on exclusive breastfeeding, to measure gross motor and fine motor skills development using a checklist form based on Denver II. Data analysis used the Chi-square test with a significance level of α <0.05. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between breastfeeding and gross motor skills development in infants (p=0,000), and there was no relationship between breastfeeding and fine motor skills development in infants (p=0,191). Conclusion: The study concludes that there is the level of knowledge and readiness of mothers in giving exclusive breastfeeding was still lacking and it could cause gross motor skills in infants to experience delays, although not significantly. By providing breastfeeding, it can provide many benefits for mothers and babies, so it is hoped that mothers will increase their knowledge about giving breastfeeding exclusively and implementing it.

Objective: Objective of this study to determine the clinical presentation and frequency of asthma triggers in the children suffering from asthma at Liaquat university of medical and health science. Subjects & Methods: This cross sectional study was carried out at Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad. All the patients were selected from OPD and pediatric ward of LUMHS. Complete history of allergy was taken from the cases and their parents and all the triggers of asthma were documented on the proforma. Results: Total 100 patients were included in the study. Majority of the cases in the age group of 1- 3years and 2nd most common age group was 4- 7 years with the percentage of 39% and 33% respectively. Majority of the cases 51%, while moderate was present in 35% cases and 14% children were seen with severe asthma condition. Asthma triggers in the children was found as; Smoking, Exercise, Dust, Pets, Ice, Plants, Carpets, Eggs, Corn oil, Allergic rhinitis and Without triggers, with the percentage of 22.%, 55.%, 51.%, 10.%, 34.%, 05.% ,11.%, 12.% , 27.%, 46.% and17.% respectively. Conclusions: In the conclusion of this study we concluded that allergic triggers perform the important role in the severity of asthma disease, these triggers attacks at night and early morning, so to avoid from the smoke, dust, allergens and proper management of asthma with good compliance and regular follow up of the patients.

Rotavirus is one of the leading causes of pediatric diarrhea globally. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of Rotavirus diarrhea should reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics and ultimately reduce drug resistance. Study was designed for rapid diagnosis of Rotavirus antigen in stool sample by ICT (Immunochromatographic test) as well as to observe the seasonal variation of rotavirus infection. This cross sectional study was carried out in the department of Microbiology, Dhaka Medical College from January 2011 to December 2011. Eighty stool samples were collected from Dhaka Shishu Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All samples were tested for rotavirus antigen by ICT. Among 80 patients, 42 (52.5%) samples were positive for rotavirus antigen. Among these 42 positive samples, 30 (71.43%) were from 0-12 months of age group, 10 (23.81%) from 13 to 24 months of age group and rest 2 (4.76%) from 25 to 36 months of age group. Rotavirus Ag was detected in stool samples from January to April and another peak episode from October to December. Considering the importance of Rotavirus associated diarrhea, rapid detection of Rotavirus infection in human is substantially needed and should be routinely practiced.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjmm.v6i1.19354 Bangladesh J Med Microbiol 2012; 06(01): 11-13
