Introduction: Psychomotor development (PMD) reflects the cerebral maturation through sensory, motor and psychological acquisitions of an individual. Its evaluation allows an early diagnosis of delays in order to take care of them. The objective of this study was to determine the profile and explanatory factors of PMD of infants in N'Djamena. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the “Notre Dame des Apôtres” Hospital in N'Djamena. It involved 428 infants aged 1 to 24 months received in preventive consultation between October 2017 and June 2018. The Denver II scale was used for the assessment of PMD. Data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 software. Results: the sex ratio was 1.06. The most represented age group was under 3 months (35.5%). The items of gross motor skills were 95% completed, fine motor skills 93.8%, language 84.6% and sociability 68.8% at the 90th percentile. Development was advanced in 56.8% normal in 32.1% and delayed in 2.1%. Statistically significant differences in PMD were observed according to age group (p= 0.000), vaccination status (p= 0.002), feeding mode (p= 0.000), maternal exchange (p= 0.000) and pregnancy follow-up (p= 0.03). Conclusion: The psychomotor development of N'Djamenese infants is similar to that of other African children, although some variations are noted. It is influenced by certain factors related to the infant and the mother.

Abstract Background Motor impairment is widely acknowledged as a core feature in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which can affect adaptive behavior and increase severity of symptoms. Low-cost motion capture and virtual reality (VR) game technologies hold a great deal of promise for providing personalized approaches to motor intervention in ASD. The present study explored the feasibility, acceptability and potential efficacy of a custom-designed VR game-based intervention (GaitWayXR™) for improving gross motor skills in youth with ASD. Methods Ten children and adolescents (10–17 years) completed six, 20-min VR-based motor training sessions over 2 weeks while whole-body movement was tracked with a low-cost motion capture system. We developed a methodology for using motion tracking data to quantify whole-body movement in terms of efficiency, synchrony and symmetry. We then studied the relationships of the above quantities with standardized measures of motor skill and cognitive flexibility. Results Our results supported our presumption that the VR intervention is safe, with no adverse events and very few minor to moderate side-effects, while a large proportion of parents said they would use the VR game at home, the most prohibitive reasons for adopting the system for home therapy were cost and space. Although there was little evidence of any benefits of the GaitWayXR™ intervention in improving gross motor skills, we showed several positive correlations between the standardized measures of gross motor skills in ASD and our measures of efficiency, symmetry and synchrony from low-cost motion capture. Conclusions These findings, though preliminary and limited by small sample size, suggest that low-cost motion capture of children with ASD is feasible with movement exercises in a VR-based game environment. Based on these preliminary findings, we recommend conducting larger-scale studies with methods for improving adherence to VR gaming interventions over longer periods.

Exercise therapy delivered through interactive computer play (ICP) has been shown to be effective for improving gross motor skills, and ultimately gait, in children with cerebral palsy (CP). This chapter provides an overview of CP, its impact on, gait and the current physical therapy (PT) standard of care. The history of the home exercise program (HEP) component of standard PT care is described, along with the potential for using ICP to improve HEP. ICP systems are surveyed, and their defining features discussed. The current therapeutic use of ICP is described and directions for further development to enhance therapeutic utility presented. A theoretical framework to support ICP implementation, self-determination theory (SDT), is outlined, and an example of its exploration in a pilot effort is provided. An example of healthcare system barriers to rapid uptake of ICP is presented along with alternative strategies for deployment and recommendations for further research.

Early childhood interventions have the potential to promote long-term healthy eating and physical activity habits to prevent obesity. However, research studies including indigenous young children are lacking. This study examined the effectiveness of the Food Friends®: Fun with New Foods™ and Get Movin’ with Mighty Moves™ (FFMM) curricula on willingness to try fruits and vegetables (FV) and gross motor (GM) skills among preschoolers in Guam. A pre-post community-based study included preschoolers from Head Start (HS), gifted and talented education (Pre-GATE), and Pre-Kindergarten programs during school years (SY) 2017–2018 and 2018–2019. In SY2017–2018, the intervention group had a significant increase in imported FV when compared with the other three groups. No significant differences between groups were found on the other FV scales. Regarding gross motor skills, no significant differences between groups were found. In SY2018–2019, the intervention group had a significant increase in all FV scales except imported FV when compared with the enhanced intervention group. With gross motor skills, no significant differences were found between groups on its progress. These results warrant FFMM adaptations for the prevention of obesity among Guam preschoolers.

Background: Social development is a fundamental aspect of motor development in children. It has been shown that children with learning disorders have different gross motor skills and physical activity compared to typically developing peers. Objectives: Since developmental domains interact with each other and children with learning disabilities often have difficulties that go far beyond those in school homework, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between physical activity and gross motor skills with social development for children with learning disabilities. Methods: In children with learning disorder (n = 82; 49 boys, 33 girls), gross motor skills and physical activity were assessed respectively with the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 and Past Year Physical Activity Questionnaire. Vineland Social Maturity Scale was used to evaluate the social development of participants. The Pearson correlation coefficient is used to association between variables. The significance for test was set at P < 0.05. Results: Locomotor and object-control were significantly associated with social development (r = 0.60, P < 0.001) and (r = 0.44, P = 0.003), respectively. Organized activities were significantly associated with social development (r = 0.69, P = 0.001). Also, gross motor skills and organized activities were able to predict the social development of children with learning disorder (R2 = 0.29, F = 15.78). Conclusions: Children with higher levels of organized activities and motor skills had higher social development. As a result, gross motor skills and organized physical activity are especially important for children with learning disabilities.

AbstractBackground: Cerebral Palsy is a heterogeneous group of disorders of neuromotor function disorders in early birth, non-progressive, affecting the fetal or developing brain and characterized by changes in muscle tone (especially spasticity or stiffness), muscle weakness, involuntary movements, ataxia, or a combination. the abnormality. Objective: The literature review study aims to determine the description of aquatic exercise to improve gross motor skills in CP children. Methods: The selection of articles in this study used the PICO mnemonic design. 35 reviewed articles via Z-library articles, PubMed. Inclusion and exclusion criteria according to keywords, published in 2010-2021. Results: The results of the analysis of the literature review of 5 articles showed that aquatic exercise can improve gross motor skills with an average value before the intervention of 50,1 and before the intervention of 52,7. Conclusion: aquatic exercise can improve children's motor skills in cerebral palsy. Pemilihan artikel pada penelitian ini menggunakan desain mnemonic PICO. Artikel yang di review melalui Z-library artikel berjumlah 2, PubMed berjumlah 3. Kreteria insklusi dan ekslusi sesuai dengan kata kunci, dipublikasi rentang waktu 2010-2021. Hasil analisis literature review 5 artikel menunjukan bahwa latihan akuatik dapat meningatkan motorik kasar dengan rata-rata usia 4-12 tahun, dan GMFCS yang didaptkan leve II lebih unggul sebesar 31 anak, untuk nilai rata-rata sebelum intervensi 50,1 dan sesudah intervensi 52,7. latihan akuatik dapat meningkatkan motorik anak pada Cerebral palsy. Sebagai dasar tindakan dalam melakukan management fisioterapi pada masalah motorik kasar pada anak cerebral palsy, fisioterapi dapat melakukan penanganan dengan menggunakan modalitas latihan akuatikKata kunci: Cerebral Palsy, Akuatik, Motorik kasar

Physical education, sports, and health teachers at elementary schools are obliged to teach their students about the correct basic movements. The basic movements that become the material for elementary school students are part of gross motor skills. The correct movement can be known well if the assessment is based on the process of the movement. The gross motor quality of students can be known by using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). TGMD-2 is a gross motor skill test instrument for children from 3 to 9 years of age. This age range still represents elementary school students in grades 1 to 3. The assessment on the TGMD-2 is based on the correctness of the students’ movements. Assessment based on the correct movement requires intensive mentorship so that teachers can understand the use of test instrument indicators. The mentorship lasted for 8 hours per day with practical material. The implementation of practice-based mentorship provides real experience for teachers in implementing TGMD-2. After undergoing mentorship activities, 88% of teachers have a percentage increase in test results above 90%. This increase shows the potential for successful use of TGMD-2 independently by the teacher and can improve the quality of the assessment of gross motor skills carried out by the teacher.

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan peran keluarga  degan kemampuan motorik kasar anak disabilitas intelektual. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross-sectional dengan jumlah responden tiga puluh delapan orang (n=38). Terdapat beberapa data primer yang dikumpulkan diantaranya peran keluarga, kemampuan motorik kasar, Pengambilan data tersebut menggunakan kuisioner Family Role Questionnaire (FRQ) dan Form Test Gross Motor Development 2 (TGMD-2). Berdasarkan hasil analisis uji hubungan dengan Spearman Rho test didapatkan nilai signifikansi (p) sebesar 0,000(p< 0.05) yang berarti adanya hubungan antara peran keluarga dengan kemampuan motorik kasar anak disabilitas intelektual, dengan nilai r =0.062 yang berarti adanya hubungan yang kuat antara peran keluarga dengan kemampuan motorik kasar anak disabilitas intelektual. Kata kunci : motorik kasar, peran keluarga, disabilitas intelektual.   Abstract This study aims to see the relationship between family and gross motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities. Some of the primary data collected included the role of the family, gross motor skills, data collection using the Family Role Questionnaire (FRQ) questionnaire and the Gross Motor Development 2 Test Form (TGMD-2). Based on the results of the analysis of the relationship test with the Spearman Rho test, it was obtained a significance value (p) of 0.000 (p <0.05), which means that there is a relationship between family roles and gross motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities, with a value of r = 0.062, which means that there is a strong relationship. between the role of the family and gross motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to improve gross motor skills by modifying the sport of throwing. Children of intellectual disability (ID) were given treatment with a modification of the game of throwing with the population of this study is mild mentally disabled students in special needs children school 01 South Jakarta, with sample selection using total sampling, where the sample was 14 boys of students and 6 girls of students. The method that is used in this research is quantitative descriptive with experiment and One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The research was occurred by giving the preliminary test and continued with the treatment as the final test. The form of the initial test (pre-test) was a shooting test which was conducted with five times of shooting in 2 meters of distance expecting there is an increase of throwing from the pretest to the posttest. The data analysis technique used is by using the T-test. The data average result before the game modification or pretest is 2.35 and the results of the posttest obtained an average value of 3.30.

Introduction: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience problems in motor skills which can affect other abilities such as academic and daily life skills.  In this regard,  the cost of interventions and the long distance from the rehabilitation  centers  put pressure  on the family of children with ASD. Previous studies have shown the potential for using telerehabilitation as a more affordable way to provide interventions for children with ASD. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the non-attendant family-centered Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK) motor program intervention to develop gross motor skills in children with a high-function ASD. Materials and Methods: The research is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design. The participants were 9 families  of  children  with  high-functioning ASD  referring to the rehabilitation centers in Tehran, Isfahan, Quds, and Kermanshah provinces, Iran. Telerehabilitation of SPARK motor program involves exercising and playing performed in 24 sessions of 45 minutes each (3 sessions per week) for 8 weeks applied for parents. The test of gross motor development-2 (TGMD-2) was used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed by paired t-test. Results: The results showed that family-based telerehabilitation of the SPARK program significantly improved gross motor skills in children with high-functioning ASD (P<0.05). Conclusion: It seems that the telerehabilitation of SPARK can be helpful for families who do not have access to rehabilitation centers.
