The aim of this paper is to describe patterns of referral to inpatient rehabilitation in rural NSW. Archival records of referrals to one rural speciality medical rehabilitation service during 2004 and 2005 were analysed using descriptive statistics displayed using tables and graphs. Seventy-six referrers referred 922 patients for inpatient rehabilitation. Almost two-thirds (63.6%) came from the local acute hospital. Most referrals (80.4%) were considered appropriate for inpatient rehabilitation. Almost three-quarters (72.5%) of the patients referred were admitted. The demand for inpatient rehabilitation is high in rural NSW, suggesting that many healthcare providers view rehabilitation as a valuable service. Furthermore, this study suggests the important contribution that inpatient rehabilitation makes to the utilisation of acute care beds, but does not confirm it. What is known about the topic?Internationally and nationally there is a growing appreciation of the contribution that clinical rehabilitation services make to quality of life for people with a range of conditions, but little is known about referrals patterns to inpatient rehabilitation in rural NSW. What does the paper add? This paper provides the first focussed study of referrals to inpatient rehabilitation in rural NSW. It reports the number of patients referred, the number of referrers, the appropriateness of those referrals and their outcomes. What are the implications for practitioners?Rehabilitation services are important, widely and largely appropriately used; and that further work is needed to assess whether additional services are required to meet this demand.

At the end of the Second World War, the General State Hospital had seven departments, the same facilities, and the same bed capacity as in the pre-war period. In the newly formed state of Yugoslavia, intensive growth and modernization of the hospital began, despite the great financial difficulties. The hospital became the Main Provincial Hospital and new departments and services were established. Mainly during the 1960s and 1970s, ten new surgery departments were established, which later became independent clinics. The surgery departments occupied pavilions 1, 2, 3 and 4. Complex and contemporary abdominal and thoracic surgeries were performed. The Department of Internal Diseases became the Clinic of Internal Diseases and in 1964 it was moved to a newly equipped four-story building. The Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics was founded and it was moved into a modern, purpose-built facility with a 230 bed capacity for adult patients and 105 for newborns. Rapid progress has also been made in the development of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Clinic of Eye Diseases, Clinic of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases, Neurology and Psychiatry Clinics, Clinic of Dermatovenereology Diseases, Medical Rehabilitation Clinic - as well as a modern laboratory, X-ray, blood transfusion, and polyclinic services. After the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, this large tertiary medical institution is the source of pride for Novi Sad. Founded 110 years ago, the hospital is still dedicated to providing better healthcare for patients.

Introduction. Pucioasa is one of the greater and sadly, almost forgotten balneological resort of Romania. Known since the 18th century, where it was discovered a record of this area on the Austrian map in 1791 with sulphurous streams, the healing waters of the “Pe Pucioasa” hill enters the therapeutic balneological circle when the first water analysis occurred – 1821-1828 by Dr. Trangot von Schobel. In 1878, Ion Ghica, a prominent figure in Romania at that time initiated the exploitation of 14 wells from the 30 known streams of sulphurous and ferruginous waters, thus obtaining enough healing mineral water for a capacity of 60 beds of the balneological establishment. Since 1841, the Resort developed, transformed into a Rehabilitation Clinic (1969) and the number of patients treated there increased from 20 in the beginning to 1000 patient per day. Many of the patients included foreign elite society members who came regularly to benefit from the waters’ healing properties, both external and internal cures, setting Pucioasa on a high level of not only balneology treatment, but also of balneological tourism. Matherials and methods: Studying local industrializations and water analysis, we concluded that there were many factors that contributed to the decline of this great and international renowned balneological resort. The first wrong step in this direction was made when building and extending de gypsum carrier, the peek being between 1970 and 1975, when the industrial forging process made the sulphurous streams to migrate, and the waters from the wells diminished in its sulphur and iron concentration. Another possible factor for the decline can be the modernisation of the medical world, development of anti-inflammatory drugs and modern medical equipment which reduced the need for the elite society to come a long distance for the balneological treatment. Results: Whichever of the reasons, the once prosperous Balneological Resort of Pucioasa fell into an unknown, unimpressive place, known and frequented only by the locals. The Rehabilitation Clinic still has 60 beds, which are occupied to the maximum each month, it still prospers on a local level, but lost its glory from almost a century ago. Conclusions: The Romanian general population and the government must take an interest to one of the many once prosperous balneological resorts in order to revive the national treasure of Romania which is balneology, which many of the developed European countries only wish that they can possess. Keywords: Balneary Resort, Pucioasa,

The urgency of the problem is due to the significant increase in recent years in the number of young and middle-aged people who have passed the war, the need to develop adequate measures of social assistance and protection. An important task in the organization of the rehabilitation process is to determine the structure of the needs of servicemen with disabilities in various types of medical and social care and the development of individual rehabilitation programs (IRP) based on them. The purpose of the study: to determine the structure of the needs of servicemen with disabilities in medical and social rehabilitation depending on the severity of disability. Statistical data from 25 administrative territories of Ukraine for 2018 are analyzed, the needs of participants of military service with disabilities in medical and social rehabilitation measures, their structure are calculated. The data of the information base of the centers and the bureau of medical and social examination of the regions were used. Processing of the primary material was performed using the universal statistical package "Excel". In 2018, medical and social expert commissions (MSEC) of Ukraine for the first time and re-certified and recognized persons with disabilities 7843 combatants. Of these, disability of group I (IA and IB) was established in 2.6 %, II – in 29.2 %, III – in 68.2 % of cases. All victims for MSEC were formed IRP. The dependence of the needs of combatants in medical and social rehabilitation measures on the severity of disability has been established. For persons with disabilities of groups II and III, priority is given to medical and professional rehabilitation, group I – social rehabilitation and technical means of rehabilitation with medical support. Of the medical rehabilitation services for persons with II and III groups of disability, sanatorium treatment is significant, and group I – rehabilitation therapy. Among vocational rehabilitation services, employment in production conditions is important – for persons with group III disabilities, in specially created conditions – for persons with group II disabilities, at home – for persons with group I disabilities. Vocational training was offered to a small number of people with disabilities of all groups. Among social rehabilitation services and technical means of rehabilitation, the services of social workers of territorial social service centers were significant for representatives of all disability groups, simpler means of transportation for persons of group III disability and more complex means for persons of group I. Determining the characteristics of the needs of servicemen with disabilities depending on its severity allows MSEC specialists to better form the IRP, develop targeted rehabilitation programs at the regional level, assess shortcomings in the organization of the rehabilitation process and build a rehabilitation system for combatants.

This research aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Policy in the Perspective of Political Economy in Medan Belawan District, Medan City. The research method used is descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. The results showed that the implementation of poverty reduction policies in Medan Belawan sub-district from the perspective of political economy has been running quite well. The whole series or process of activities starting from the initial socialization, reflecting on poverty, implementing the program, monitoring the program all went quite well. The success of the Poverty Reduction Policy is greatly supported by the effectiveness of the implementing organizations in providing learning, mentoring, independence, for the poor. The obstacle that occurs in the implementation of this policy is that there are still poor people, most of whom are traditional fishing workers who have not received the benefits of assistance programs from the Government. This caused some of their children to drop out of school to work to help their parents.
