Smartphones are increasingly used to access videos, including subscription video-on-demand services. This is especially true among millennials, who are the primary adopters. This raises the question of why millennials watch SVOD through their smartphones when other wide-screened devices offer better audiovisual quality. This research aims to reveal the motivations satisfied by using uses and gratification theory through qualitative approach and grounded theory strategy.  Based on in-depth interviews of six informants, we found classical UG typologies, namely Information and Passing Time, and typologies recurring in new media research, which are customized experienced and media displacement. The study also produced expanded typologies, including hedonistic/eudaimonic entertainment, time/place-shifting, comfort/relaxation, and diversion/immersive experience. Lastly, binge-watching was discovered to be an emergent typology. As this research analyzes data from one informant, the results cannot be generalized. Operationalizing these typologies by using a quantitative approach is recommended for future research.

One of digital transformation of television systems is an interactive service called video-on-demand (VOD). VOD provides full control to its users, by allowing viewers to enjoy, choose, store, and even download the desired audio-visual content anytime and through any electronic communication device. The presence of Netflix and other VOD service providers is transforming people's behavior patterns in watching television. People are beginning to switch to watching audiovisual content and episodes the same televisions or programs known as binge-watching through online streaming. This study focused on the concept of audiences’ activities based on Levy and Windahl’s typology model. The study also explored the motivation that was a part of uses and gratification theory. This new audience habit and motivation were explored by qualitative approach. The interview was conducted to the Netflix subscribers in Jakarta to discover the behavior activities and motivation of binge-watching. The thematic analysis was applied to analyze the process of fragmentation and audience activity that occurs in a very active new media society.

During the last years, e-commerce has grown rapidly. As a result, the number of parcel deliveries in urban areas is increasing, which affects the inner-city traffic and leads to congestion and air pollution, thereby decreasing the quality of life in cities. City administrators and logistic service providers have been working on the optimization of parcel distribution in order to alleviate congestion and reduce the negative impact on the environment. One of the solutions for environmentally friendly parcel distribution are two-stage distribution systems with city hubs. City hubs are facilities located close to the delivery area which are used as an enabling infrastructure to store and consolidate the parcels. For the last mile delivery from the city hub to final customers, zero emission vehicles, such as cargo bikes, can be used. Many studies have been conducted on this topic in recent years. This paper contributes to this research area by evaluating the implementation of such a two-stage distribution system with a city hub and cargo bikes in Innsbruck, Austria. The goal is to determine the best location for a city hub and the composition of the delivery fleet by minimizing the total distribution and CO2-emission cost. E-vans are used for the first and cargo bikes for the second stage of the parcel delivery. The problem is modeled as a vehicle routing problem with multiple trips and is solved in ArcGIS Pro, using the built-in routing solver. The analysis shows that all hub candidates provide comparably good results, with one potential station, the main station, showing the highest improvement compared to the basic system, with delivery by conventional vans. Savings in distribution costs of up to 30% can be achieved. Furthermore, by taking into account both indirect and direct emissions with a well-to-wheel approach, CO2-emissions can be reduced by 96%.

Dynamic on-demand service has become the crucial part in cloud computing according to the user’s requirements. Cloud storage is clearly the top choice for archiving media assets, by choosing the public cloud for active, deep archive needs. Video on demand, media distribution system in cloud allowing users to access video, facilitating immediate download and view of data without traditional video playback devices. On demand service of video requires infrastructure resources to handle large load fluctuations. Major challenges of video demand services are delays in simultaneous video uploading, processing, accessing and traffic caused by exhaust services. Also, there are concerns over the security of assets stored in a public cloud remains. In this paper, an ample analysis is presented on file storage encompassing fragmentation, compression, encryption security concerns in cloud storage and access. The limitations in the existing is also provided and hence outlined the research direction towards an efficient storage mechanism with a secured access providing a reliable media data transmission between data owner and users in public cloud environment.

Information technology has developed rapidly, particularly in the area of social media. Almost all groups in society now use social media in their day to day activities, and one group that has been greatly impacted is young farmers. Before this era, farmers had difficulty accessing information. This study aims to find out what benefits are obtained and obstacles encountered by the use of social media in farming activities by the young farmers. This paper is descriptive explorative by using a qualitative approach. The data collection technique itself uses in-depth interviews, observations, literature studies, and documentation. The research location was in Bulukerto Village, Bumiaji Sub-District, Batu City which was carried out from November to December, 2017. The informants were chosen because they already used new media to support their farming activities. The result is the use of social media in the agricultural sector is widely used by young farmers in order to increase revenue and to seek information. Even so, there are still a number of problems faced by young farmers when utilizing social media, namely those interested in buying and selling online for agricultural products are not as high as other products and about the trust. The advice that can be given is farmers must post photos of products on Instagram with good pictures and caption. They also can tag others to reshare and spread the product information.

The distribution channel structure significantly affects the distribution costs, and in the food industry the distribution costs have very often an important share on the total products cost. In the food industry, merger & acquisition conditions in the Czech Republic are the expected synergic effects. One of them is the cost saving following up from the redesign of the distribution system. On the case of a real project of the new mineral waters distribution system, the authors demonstrate their methodology and methods for the distribution system redesign, which integrates together the problem of the distribution object location with the distribution strategy choice and transport system design.

This article explores how Norwegian record label managers understand their current positions and future possibilities in a market that is increasingly driven by on-demand subscription-based streaming. It adds to a growing body of research by adopting a qualitative approach, seeking to describe issues at a personal or company level, and provide nuance and dynamics in a discourse that is often described in dichotomies and on aggregate levels. The article argues that stakeholders have more varied attitudes than simply being for or against the innovation, the new economic models and their eff ects on their own business, and the market in general. It also demonstrates that perceptions change as markets develop, and stakeholders and their businesses adjust. The article uses four in-depth interviews to assess a 2013 government-initiated project, and provides insights into differing positions and changes over time.

In this paper, we focus on the user aspects of a specific television service, video-on-demand (VOD), offered on two platforms: TV and computer. The concept of video-on-demand has already for a long time been the subject of new media research, first in its analogue version and more recently as a digital service. The main asset of this functionality, embedded in different devices, is that it offers the ability of video content being watched at any time and thereby enables extensive ways of time shifting. Furthermore, there is a possible expansion in available content, made by professionals as well as amateurs. Therefore VOD has the technical capability to fundamentally change our viewing patterns and practices. The question is however: How does the audience domesticate this new kind of audiovisual content and (how) does it fit in with their everyday viewing practices? Based on an environmental scan consisting of an extensive literature review, this paper synthesises knowledge on existing viewing practices as well as the video on demand’s new affordances. Possible shifts and interactions are investigated and new research questions are being identified.

Nowadays we are witnessing a significant change in content consumption. This, together with the global health situation, has caused some behaviors to accelerate. This research focuses on the specific case of the lockdown in Spain and the coincidence with the launch of the fourth season of Money Heist compared to the launch of season three. Starting with a review of the theoretical framework, in which the related concepts of coronavirus, television, and Video on Demand (VOD) platforms are presented, the importance of transmedia communication is also introduced. The methodological aspect is developed through content analysis and in-depth interviews. The tool used on the first methodology has been Twlets. With regard to the sources, the specific bibliography of the audiovisual sector, the official profile of the series on Twitter and personal interviews with professionals from the communication department of the production company, Vancouver Media, and from the series directing were taken into account. The methodology used to carry out this work has been the analysis of quantitative–qualitative content of the various sources consulted. The results of the study are presented in graphs, crossing the data from the different sources to detect the strategies of marketing and communication used for the release of the fourth season of the series. These results reflect the change in the communication strategy, the behavior of the social audience of the Twitter account of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) and its relationship with the period of lockdown in Spain.
