This study aims to explore parents and students’ perspective towards the required learning from home amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Based on initial observation and preliminary designed online survey to in a private school in Jakarta, the research continued with in-depth interviews to parents and children to gain understanding about the insights, experiences, feelings and changes in attitudes and behavior towards the impromptu online learning programs within the last three months. Results showed that the maximal exposure to the home environment and the minimal revelation to the environment outside home had given the external factors to be more dominant during the online learning, and that regardless how sophisticated the online learning circumstances were, students tended to be fond of face-to-face environment at school. Furthermore, changes in behavior due to the online learning, motives and their challenges are also discussed, as well as the perspective towards online learning environment compared to the regular school setting. The researchers suggest that the Ministry of Education should establish a new (permanent) and inclusive curriculum related to the online learning occurrences.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on all areas of life, including education. The education system, which was originally face-to-face, had to be replaced with online learning. Various problems arise related to the implementation of the Distance Learning or PJJ system. This system makes parents have to participate more in supervising as well as being a substitute for teachers at home in the learning process of their children. In addition, homeschooling also raises problems where students find it difficult to understand the material given by the teacher. The decrease in enthusiasm for learning becomes a problem when the PJJ system seems monotonous and boring. To support the government's program in breaking the chain of the spread of COVID-19 without reducing the effectiveness of online learning implemented by the Ministry of Education and Culture, this activity was carried out. This activity is expected to help reduce the anxiety of parents who are afraid that their children are not serious and have difficulty in learning. In addition, it is hoped that this activity will help participants to easily understand the material that has not been mastered. The methods of socialization, demonstration, and mentoring are carried out directly. The success of this activity can be seen from the assistance of the participants in solving the problems faced and the enthusiasm of the participants during the activity.

AbstractA lack of learners’ discipline is a major school problem in secondary schools in Mauritius. The study aims at determining and examining the main causes of this problem in the context of Mauritius. Qualitative data were collected from learners, educators, principals and parents of four secondary schools by using focus group interviews and individual face-to-face interviews. By using content analysis, the study revealed that the causes of learners’ lack of discipline originate from the family (the parenting style, working parents, ineffective parental discipline and the dysfunctional family), the learners’ attitudes to education and schooling, the educators’ attitudes to their role of maintaining learner discipline, the principals’ lack of authority and leadership in managing learner discipline and the influence of peer group in the school setting. The study shows that all the stakeholders of the school community are responsible for the deterioration of learner discipline in secondary schools. It recommends that there should be a decentralisation of learner discipline strategies from the Ministry of Education to the secondary school principals who should be empowered to set up their institutional school discipline plan.

The Spring term 2020 saw a global switch to emergency remote teaching in higher education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside asynchronous online learning activities, students were called to participate in synchronous videoconferencing sessions, substituting the traditional on-campus face-to-face courses. Given the preponderance of students to avoid using webcams, this study sought to investigate usage behavior, as well as potentially related course variables and individual characteristics. 3,527 students from across all institutional faculties of a comprehensive German university took part in an online survey. Students’ webcam usage behavior was related to personal thoughts and feelings (e.g., privacy), to course characteristics (e.g., group cohesion), and it differed due to specific groups (gender, study degree). Results of this research shed light on a globally present phenomenon and provide a foundation for further investigation.

Abstract - The Covid-19 pandemic that has been running for several months from April 2020 to September 2020 has caused adjustments in various fields, one of which is the field of education. Based on Circular No. 4 of 2020 concerning the implementation of education in the Covid-19 emergency period, one of the points is that the learning process is carried out from home, thus requiring the school to make a new innovation for the learning process because it does not allow face-to-face classrooms. The school and teachers make an agreement on how the method they will use. This research takes the example of a case in a private school in Bandung regency that implements online learning media through group wa found some of the deficiencies are for teachers there is no neat learning history because of its nature that continues to accumulate when there is an incoming message, for parents there is limited storage memory. which causes many obstacles in accessing the WA group to download teaching materials from the teacher or sending reports on the results of daily learning. Therefore researchers intend to develop a cloud storage-based online learning application prototype by utilizing a variety of technologies including Laravel programming language, react native (mobile ), Firebase for the use of its database and the Google Drive API for file cloud storage. The result of developing this prototype is in the form of a system design consisting of activity diagrams, use case diagrams, class diagrams and mobile-based interface designKeywords — Application, learning, online, cloud, storage Abstrak — Pandemic covid-19 yang telah berjalan beberapa bulan terhitung dari April 2020 sampai sekarang September 2020 telah menyebabkan penyesuaian di berbagai macam bidang salah satu diantaranya adalah bidang Pendidikan.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an accelerated migration from face-to-face to online learning. This article aims to explore and describe how psychology students experienced the migration from face-to-face to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. It entailed a qualitative research design with an exploratory and descriptive approach. The participants were 28 purposively sampled psychology students from a Private Higher Education Institution in Gauteng. An online survey method was employed to gather the needed information which was then subjected to a thematic analysis. It emerged that the challenges experienced by students were internet connectivity issues, insufficient computer literacy, reduced class time, anxiety, physical impact, and communication issues. Moreover, some benefits related to flexibility, the convenience of online studies and safety from infection with COVID-19 were identified. It was also noted that having certain attributes such as independence, time management skills, having support and being tech savvy improved the online learning process. Some opportunities for Higher Education Institutions to improve the experiences of students included creativity in module delivery as well as providing guidelines on how to use these online platforms.

During the escalating coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, attempting to contain its spread, a large number of educational institutions shut down face-to-face teaching and learning activities globally due to a complete lockdown. This lockdown revealed emerging vulnerabilities of education systems in the low- and middle-income countries of the world, with Nigeria being no exception. Given these concerns, this research study assessed parental involvement, learning participation and the commitment to online learning of adolescent learners during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria. An online survey questionnaire was employed to examine the level of online learning commitment and the contributory roles of each of the factors to online learning commitment of adolescent learners. In total, 1407 adolescents (male = 38.8%; female 61.2%) aged between 12 and 20 years (mean = 15: SD = 4.24) responded to the online survey, which was open for 2 months. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency distribution and inferential statistics of multiple regression. The findings revealed that the commitment level of adolescent learners to online learning was high. The findings further yielded a coefficient of R = 0.439 and R2 = 0.192 variance in the prediction of the outcome measure. Parental involvement contributed 32% (β = 0.322, p < 0.05) and learning participation contributed 23% (β = 0.234, p < 0.05) towards online learning. The study concludes that parental involvement and learning participation played a significant and positive role in the commitment of adolescent learners towards online learning during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria. The authors suggest that parents be encouraged to synergise with the digitalised revolution, while the need for further in-depth research on the subject is emphasised in the suggestions for future research.

The Covid-19 outbreak provided surprises and also provided challenges for various educational institutions, including universities. The government has banned universities from conducting face-to-face lectures. The government has issued a policy for implementing temporary courses online (Ministry of Education and Culture Dikti Circular No.1 2020). All universities are required to be able to conduct online or online learning. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of online lectures during the Covid-19 Pandemic for UAD Wates. This research method uses descriptive analysis method through a survey with a google form questionnaire which is conducted online. The sample in this study were students of UAD Wates class of 2017, 2018, and 2020. The respondents in this study were 15 respondents. The effectiveness of online lectures during the Covid-19 Pandemic for students at UAD Wates was quite effective in preventing the transmission of the Covid-19 virus. However, the results of the study also show that online lectures have not been running effectively, because there are still lecturers who do not conduct online lectures. The learning method used is still dominant with assigning assignments to students so that many students are overwhelmed in doing coursework.
