According to Arslan and Albay (in Sukma et al, 2020) solving environmental problems will be possible only with effective environmental education. The ability to write is one of the skills that is a principal goal of Indonesian learning. It can be applied in the form of descriptive text, exposition, short stories, novels, and so forth. Environmental education with text writing skills can be combined in Indonesian language learning. This combination will make learners more creative because it produces text from the environment they see either directly or through the media. The author distributed a questionnaire containing 10 statements regarding the importance of environmental education in Indonesian language learning. Based on the results of the angket survey, it could be concluded that most of the respondents agree that the presentation of environmental materials in text-based Indonesian learning is one of the most effective ways and will affect students' love, knowledge, and concern regarding the environment.

Environmental education (EE) is an integration of environmental understanding with formal or informal education. EE is expected to help students gain understanding on the awareness and knowledge about the environment to further shape student attitudes. From these understanding, skills and abilities will emerge so that students can actively participate and become agents in solving environmental problems. The concept of EE itself can be traced back to the 18th century, although globally, those engaged in the environmental sector began to strive to develop a more measurable EE concept since the 1970s. The legal basis also varies, with application models that adapt to each distinctive environment. Adiwiyata is a form of EE managed by the government through the integration of two important ministries, namely the ministry that deals with environmental issues and the ministry that deals with education. This study was intended to find out whether Adiwiyata was in accordance with the EE concept that was agreed upon globally. In particular, the implementation of the Adiwiyata Program in Surabaya City is the focus of this paper based on the results of research on the environment in 2019 which have been published. The environmental awareness of Adiwiyata School in Surabaya City is quite high and the concept developed by the Surabaya City Government is very solid that involves all parties.

Environmental education (EE) for sustainable development remains a valuable subject of contemporary society, which is characterized with environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, loss of biodiversity, and resource degradation. The delivery of EE is based on the North American Association for environmental education values of knowledge, dispositions, competencies, and responsible behavior towards the environment. EE is a transformative tool to learners since it prepares learners with skills, attitudes, knowledge, and values to resolve environmental problems. It promotes environmental activism and action-oriented resolution of environmental issues. The full benefits of EE are challenged by limited human capacity, questionable professionalism, limited resources, and poor transformation of knowledge to practice. These challenges however can be alleviated through community engagement in formulating EE programs, multidisciplinary engagements, and research on EE delivery and quality.

The environment has a very important role for life. To be able to protect our environment requires understanding and knowledge of the environment. According to Ramadhan et.al (2019) in Indonesia environmental education is not a compulsory subject in schools. Therefore, environmental education can be integrated into other subjects, one of which is language learning. Ramadhan et.al (2019) said that teachers play an important role in conveying this knowledge to students, because students are the next generation who are tasked with protecting the environment. Environmental education can be integrated into language learning lessons. We can integrate this by using the theme of the environment in text learning. It is through the text that students can learn the language and gain environmental knowledge through the content of the text they read.

This paper seeks to demonstrate that the environmental issues were pointed out by George Perkins Marsh at least one hundred years before it become a part of the global agenda in the 1970s. As per our research we can we can clearly state that the negligence given to his book “Man and Nature”, in which he has proven that aggression to nature meant aggression to human life, became responsible for the serious environmental problems that we have today. If a return in time is unlikely to prevent industrial capitalism from following its rite of destruction-production-oppression-consumption all we have is the hope that all of this can be mitigated in some way. We bet on environmental education, mainly mediated by hope and utopia very well outlined by the patron of Brazilian education, Paulo Freire. This article is an essay in which we weave together neglect with hope.

From the results of the author's research above, it can be concluded that environmental material is very important to be applied in Indonesian language learning. Therefore, with environmental material the teacher can easily find relevant examples that make students better understand the material provided, so that it can help teachers imply the Indonesian language material in schools. Educational institutions have an important role in the process of imparting environmental insight education to students, and educators are always connecting the process of environmentally-based positive values to students. This is in accordance with the opinion of Hauchild S, Poltavthenko E, and Stoller F, L (in Ramadhan et al, 2019), by integrating environmental education into the classroom, teachers can increase students' interest in contemporary problems that may directly affect their future.

Environmental material is very important to be applied in learning Indonesian. With the existence of environmental material in Indonesian language learning, students can build ecological intelligence. To apply these environmental materials, of course, we need teachers who can motivate students to love the environment. According to Zulhafizh, Ramadhan, and Atmazaki (2013), teachers play an important role in creating a conducive learning environment. In addition, according to Sukma, Ramadhan, and Indriani (2020), teachers are the most influential people in instilling environmental education from an early age. Teachers become role models for their students in the future, because student behavior is influenced by teacher behavior.
