AbstractGossip is prevalent and is widespread in human society. Gossip has been denigrated as ‘idle talk’, mostly among women based on ‘trifling or groundless rumour’. The nature and intensity of gossiping victimise women in society. Consequently, women bear serious threat to their well standardized lives. The study aims to understand the women’s experiences with gossiping as a barrier to empowerment. This is a qualitative study with inductive approach. Men and Women are selected as a informants for this study. The data were congregated through in-depth interviews. The results indicate that gossiping or fear of being gossiped is a strong social control in the social setup of Balochistan. This prevents women from being empowered. This paper is intended to be a contribution to exploiting the ideas of women about gossiping as an essential social control or barrier for empowering women.

This study examines the aspirations of children with disabilities in attending school and their tendency to drop out of school. This study answers the question of how disabilities influence aspirations to attend school in relation to the tendency to drop out of school. Data were collected through interviews and observations of three children with disabilities who dropped out of school and three children with disabilities who do not. Data were analysed using the techniques of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the aspirations of attending school were influenced by three considerations: targets, results of risk factor analysis, and social responses. The social response shows the most dominant attention because it is often manifested by support (friendship) or obstacles (intimidation and discrimination). If the social response is positive, then the aspirations of going to school will increase, which affects the sustainability of children in school.[Penelitian ini mengkaji aspirasi anak difabel untuk bersekolah dan kecenderungannya untuk putus sekolah.

Historians have undertaken a number of specific investigations concerning the social, economic and geographic backgrounds, as well as their motives for emigrating, of those men and women who emigrated from England to Massachusetts, Virginia and Barbados during the course of the seventeenth century. While they have discussed the origins of the South Carolina charter, described the social and political status of the eight proprietors, dissected the Fundamental Constitutions, and examined the means by which the successful settlement of 1670 was organized, historians have neglected to explore the social backgrounds of those men who emigrated directly from England to South Carolina during the colony's initial decades of settlement. In contrast, not only the political but also the social and economic backgrounds of the Barbadian planters who colonized South Carolina have been the subject of a number of historical studies.

AbstractThis article attempts to reflect on the subjective processes through which people recognize and authorize themselves to make use of their bodies, sexuality and reproduction, and manage to demand the social, economic and institutional conditions to enforce these decisions. On the basis of the experience of qualitative research with men and women in various contexts in Mexico and Foucault’s work on ethical issues at different times in western societies, the author suggests that decisions regarding one’s own reproduction take different subjective paths from those related to the search for sexual pleasure, particularly because of the importance of Catholic morality in the history of Mexico. Moreover, the different meanings of pleasure and reproduction also vary according to gender and men and women’s experience of desire and procreation. In order to contribute elements to the debate on the concept of sexual rights, the author analyzes the importance of these cultural and subjective processes in constructing a civic ethics of sexuality, in the sense of promoting political participation in the establishing the conditions for the search for pleasure.
