Introduction Breast self-examination (BSE) is a self-generated, non-invasive and non-irradiative method of breast cancer detection. Self examination of the breasts each month after the menstrual cycle is the simplest yet extremely important way to detect early breast cancer. It has been observed that women can detect 95% of breast cancers and 65% of early minimal breast cancers themselves. This method is harmless, less time consuming and can be performed by any woman.Objective To assess the effectiveness of educational intervention programme regarding Breast Self Examination among girl students of study school.Methodology Pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for this study. In total, 61 girls were included. The result were analysed by using both descriptive as well as inferential statistics.Results In pre-test 75.4% had inadequate and only 1.6% had adequate knowledge regarding Breast Self Examination, in contrast, after the intervention the adequate knowledge was increased to 62.3%. The overall mean score was increased from 33.07% to 85.14%. The test of significance revealed that the increment in BSE knowledge score due to program intervention was highly significant (P< 0.001).Conclusion The educational intervention programme on BSE was found to be highly effective as the knowledge score was significantly increased after intervention of the package among higher secondary school girls.Birat Journal of Health Sciences 2016 1(1): 13-19

Aim: The study aims to create awareness among women regarding incidence, risk factors, clinical symptoms, prevention and management of Breast Cancer through Breast self examination. Objectives: i) To assess the pre and post test level of knowledge regarding Breast self examination among women. ii) to assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on knowledge regarding Breast self examination among women. iii) to find the association between post test level of knowledge regarding breast self examination among women with their demographic variables. Methods Material: A quantitative research approach - experimental - pre- experimental-one group- pre -test post-test research design was adopted. 30 samples were selected for the study by using non probable-purposive sampling technique. Results: the study findings shows that in pre test level of knowledge among 30 samples 25(83.4%) had inadequate knowledge and 5(16.6%) had moderate adequate knowledge. In post test level of knowledge among 30 sample 8(26.6%) had moderate adequate knowledge and 22(73%) had adequate knowledge. Conclusion: the study concluded that, video assisted teaching programme regarding breast self examination was effective on improving the knowledge level among women in selected settings of rural area. Introduction: In Malaysia, the rate of adolescents involved in sexual activities has increased and starts at an earlier age. Data from NHMS 2017 showed that 7.3% among surveyed 13 to 17 years-old adolescents have already had sex. The rate of teenage pregnancies is also increasing at 3.7-3.9% between the years 2009 until 2011. Therefore, an effective SRH Programme should be conducted in schools to equip them with adequate knowledge regarding this subject.Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 145 randomly selected secondary school students aged 13 to 15 years old, attending the SRH Programme in a secondary school in Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia. The objective of this programme is to deliver knowledge and promote awareness among adolescents regarding SRH. The programme consists of intervention using adolescent-friendly module and games. A pre- and post-test were given to the participants to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme using the validated SRH questionnaire (Malay version). The questionnaire consists of fourteen and six items for knowledge and attitude, respectively.Results: The result showed an increase in the mean knowledge score (±SD) after the SRH Programme at the school from 7.25 ± 2.44 for pre-test to 9.70 ± 3.17 for post-test. The mean difference in pre- and post-test was 2.45 (95% CI: 2.02, 2.87) and was statistically significant (p<0.001). In terms of attitudes, the majority of the students felt that they have enough knowledge to make a gooddecision regarding sexual reproductive health issues after the SRH programme. However, there was only a small increment with regards to their attitudes on assertiveness.Conclusion: This study demonstrated an increase in the level of knowledge among adolescents in Cheras after the SRH programme using the adolescent-friendly module and games. However, there is no significant change in attitude among adolescents regarding SRH.Future SRH programmes need to be done regularly to instil positive attitudes among adolescents in dealing withsexual reproductive dilemmas.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Supplementary Issue: 2021 Page: S20

Objective: Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is an early detection method of breast cancer. It is able to develop responsibility for breast health among women to always aware of any changes in the breast. Thus, secondary school girls age is the perfect age to start practice the BSE. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of knowledge and awareness on BSE among secondary school girls in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 502 secondary school girls using self-administered questionnaire covering socio-demographic data, knowledge and awareness of breast cancer and knowledge and awareness of BSE. Results: The mean age of the participants is 14.9 ± 0.06 years. The majority of the participants were Malays (86.5%). A total of 6.1% of the participants had a family history of breast cancer. Nine percent of participants had a good knowledge and 91.0% had poor knowledge regarding BSE. There is a significant difference between the age of participants with the level of knowledge and awareness (p = 0.014). Conclusion: The knowledge and awareness of BSE were poor among secondary school girls in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer affecting women worldwide. It comprises 22.9% of invasive cancers in women and 16% of all female cancers.   It affects about 12% of the women population worldwide. In Nigeria, about one breast cancer death is reported in every 25 cases identified and the practice of breast self-examination has been reported to range from 19% to 43.2%. This cross sectional study assessed the knowledge, attitude and practice of breast self-examination (BSE) among female secondary school students in Osogbo Metropolis. Methods: A total of 400 respondents were selected using multistage sampling technique. Data were collected using pre-tested self-administered semi structured questionnaire, analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and presented using appropriate tables and charts. Level of significance set at < 0.05. Results: The mean age ± SD is 14.77 ± 1.46 years.  390 (97.5%) respondents reported that they have heard of breast cancer while 235 (58.8%) respondents stated that they have heard of breast self-examination (BSE). 15 (3.8%) respondents said the procedures is time wasting while 82 (20.5%) respondents said the procedures were strenuous. 199 (49.8%)  strongly disagree that performing breast self-examination may expose them to breast cancer. Individuals with poor knowledge are one time less likely to do breast self-examination (OR = 1.245, CI = 0.647 - 2.394) while in terms of attitude, those with unfavorable attitude are one time less likely to do breast self-examination (OR = 1.025 CI = 0.949 -1.107). Conclusion: This study revealed a larger proportion of respondents have heard about breast cancer and breast self-examination but with inadequate knowledge of the correct procedures of breast self-examination (BSE) thereby resulting into poor attitude & practice of breast self-examination (BSE). This challenge therefore indicates an urgent need for continuous awareness and sensitization programs in the communities.

Breast cancer is an important health problem in both developed and developing countries. The incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer can be suppressed by early detection, namely breast self-examination. The aim of community service is to increase the knowledge of pus about breast and improve the skills to do breast self-examination. The method used is the lecture method, discussion, role play and mentoring, the target is EFA in Tambang Hamlet Karangjeruk Village Jatirejo District, activities in August 2017-January 2018, analysis used frequency distribution. The results were counseling participants 22 with means of pre-test 47.8 and post-test 76.6, The results were significant there was an increase in knowledge 0,000 with a value of t = - 27,840, and 95% CI between - 31.02 - -26.71 means that the effect was strong because it did not cross the number 1 ; treatment can increase 2-3 x knowledge compared to not given. Whereas for BSE assistance, there were 33 EFA participants. Participants in breastfeeding counseling and detection with breast self-examination were enthusiastic and active in the material presented and in the discussion activities with evidence of enrichment, and during the role play activities the participants actively participated in the movements taught by the presenters. An increase in EFA knowledge about breast cancer and detection with breast self-examination. Health workers always provide information about breast cancer and breast self-examination to couples of childbearing age on an ongoing basis.

Aim: The purpose of this systemic review is to explore the literature on breast self examination and on breast awareness. Objectives: To evaluate the importance of breast awareness. (1) To prove breast awareness is a an effective strategy for health promotion. (2) To clarify the difference between breast awareness and breast self examination. (3) To critique self breast examination as an effective method for screening breast cancers. Methodology: To review the literature supporting breast self examination and breast awareness Medline, CINAHL, Pubmed, Science Direct and Cochrane Databases were used. The key words “breast awareness”, “difference” and “breast self examination” were used in conjunction with “breast cancer”, “breast screening” and “health promotion” to search the recent articles of last 5 years from 2005 to 2010. Conclusions: It was concluded through the literature support that breast self-examination does not reduce breast cancer mortality whereas; breast awareness provides women with some knowledge about the breasts to fight breast disease and to reduce morbidity but not to reduce the mortality.

Breast cancer is a malignancy originating from the milk glands, glandular channels and supporting breast tissue. Breast cancer can be avoided if women know how to prevent the occurrence of the disease. One of them is doing breast self-examination to detect breast cancer early. The purpose of this community service is to increase knowledge and attitudes of Women of childbearing age in conducting breast self-examination in Batubulan Village, , Sukawati, Gianyar. The number of the targets participating in this activity was 55 people. The method used is lectures, questions and answers and guidance on how to realize. Before counseling, a pre-test with 22% results in the good category and 55% with a positive attitude about early detection of breast cancer through awareness, while the post-test results showed 80% good knowledge and 100% with a positive attitude. All targets choose to have regular breast checks every month even though there are no complaints. Health workers are expected to continue the health promotion program specifically in the field of reproductive health so that it is carried out routinely atthrough integrated service activities or at the time of service at the community of health

Purpose: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. Educative and awareness programs do impact early practices of breast self- examination resulting in early detection of cancer and thereby decreasing mortality. The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and awareness of breast cancer and breast self- examination among medical and nursing students in Oman and to compare the knowledge on, attitude towards, and skills of students after the training program.Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study that was carried out for medical students from in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, National University of Science & Technology, Oman and nursing students in the Oman College of Health Sciences and the Al Bathina Nursing institute in November 2019. The pre-test questionnaire was given before the training program and a post-test questionnaire was administered after the training program. Knowledge on, attitude towards, and skills of students on breast cancer and breast self-examination were compared.Results: Pre-test and post-test were collected from 170 students —90 students from medical, and 80 students from nursing schools. A significant improvement was observed in the post-test scores for knowledge on, attitude towards, and skills of students after the intervention (P < 0.001). Conclusion: An educational training program on breast cancer and breast examination with emphasis on skills can motivate the participants to perform breast self- examination regularly. Therefore, it may help students to train target women for the early detection of breast cancer.
