Background: Student’s positive perception towards the academic environment determines the quality of education. This study aimed at finding students’ perception on educational environ­ment of the postgraduate nursing programme of Nepal. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted among 104 masters level nursing stu­dents from four selected nursing campuses under Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University. Enu­merative sampling technique was used to select the sample. Data were collected using validated standard tool Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Most of the nursing students (81.7%) had positive level of perception on their educational environment and few had excellent perception. Total DREEM mean score was 134.37± 21 out of 200. Specifically, mean score of learning was 31.93 ± 5.1 out of 48, students’ perception of teachers was 30.02 ± 5.072 out of 44; students’ academic self-perception was 22.32 ± 3.54 out of 32; students’ perception of atmosphere was 32.26±5.1 out of 48 and mean score for students social self-perception was 17.82± 3.3 out of 28. Lower mean score < 2.0 was identified on teaching factual learning, oppor­tunities to memorize learning, supporting during stress, time management of programs, well prepara­tion for classes and student’s self-perception. Conclusions: The findings indicate more positive perception on educational environment among post­graduate nursing students. Still some aspects such as teaching factual learning, memorizing learning, supportive students during stress, and social environment need to be emphasized to enhance the students’ educational environment of post-graduate nursing program by the academic institution.

Abstract Background Learning environment is an important base for learning processes of students and for preferences of future workplaces. It is considered as an essential factor in determining the success of an effective curriculum and the students’ academic achievements. This study attempts to assess the perception of learning environment among the nursing students. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used to conduct the study among 122 nursing students studying at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science. Data were collected following total enumerative sampling method using a self-administered questionnaire. Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) inventory tool was used to assess the perception of learning environment. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) was used to describe the demographic and other related variables. One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to find out the difference in the overall scale score and its subscales across the selected socio-demographic variables (age, ethnicity, residence, year of enrollment) of the respondents. Results The mean age of the students was 21 ± 1.46 years. Majority of the students were from Province no. 1 (57.4%) and largely from Sunsari district (25.4%). First year students were found to be more satisfied (68.23%) with the educational environment (136.45 ± 16.93) compared to student of other years. Academic self-perception (21.94 ± 3.42) was the highest scoring subscale (68.57%) while the social self-perception (16.43 ± 2.96) was the lowest (58.66%). The overall DREEM score (131.25 ± 15.82 out of 200) indicated that perception of learning environment among the students was positive. Despite overall positive perception, students perceived that the teachers were authoritative and there is lack of good support system for the students at the time of stress. The total DREEM score varied significantly between the years of enrollment (p < 0.05). Conclusion The current study showed positive perception of learning environment which varied significantly according to the year of enrollment. However improvements are required across all the five domains for the high quality educational environment. Future qualitative studies are recommended to confirm and to have in-depth understanding of this finding.

Background & Aim: Due to many negative aspects of the educational environment students’ have not well attained their professional demands that affect their perception and qualities of nursing care delivered to the community. The study was aimed to assess nursing students’ perception and associated factors towards their educational environment in governmental universities of Southwest Ethiopia. Methods & Materials: Institution based cross-sectional study was employed on 422 study subjects from April 9 to 23/2019. Proportionally allocated a simple random sampling technique was used to select the participants. The data was collected using a validated self-administered Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) questionnaire and entered by Epi data 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 23 for analysis. Simple and multiple linear regressions were used and a total DREEM mean score, sub scores, and SD were computed.  A P-value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: Overall mean perception of nursing students was 124.76/200 with Standard deviation (SD) of 0.065 which implies that more positive than the negative educational environment. The DREEM subscales mean scores of students’ perception of learning, perception of teachers, academic self-perception, perception of atmospheres and students’ social self-perception were 31.64/48, 25.4/44, 22.52/32, 29.17/48 and 16.08/28 with SD of (0.204,0.098,0.075,0.060 and 0.101) respectively. The multiple linear regressions revealed that there was statistically a significant relationship between students’ perception with study years, support system, learning facilities; and memory, learning motivation, satisfaction, academic status, gender, marital status receptively. Conclusion: Even though nursing students’ perception of their educational environment was more positive than negative, it is not most satisfactory. Thus, to make it more attractive and an excellent university should adopt different strategies.

Purpose: Educational environment has a significant impact on students' behavior, academic progress and quality of learning. The aim of this study was to evaluate the students’ perception of their learning environment in an Indian physiotherapy college and compare their perceptions in terms of demographic attributes and academic level. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 420 undergraduate physiotherapy students. The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM), a 50-item, self-administered inventory was employed to assess the student’s perception of learning environment. It comprises of five domains: students’ perceptions of learning; students’ perceptions of teachers; students’ academic self-perceptions; students’ perceptions of atmosphere and students’ social self-perceptions. Descriptive statistics, t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze data. P-value < 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: The mean DREEM score was 122.66 ± 17.39 reflecting a more of positive than negative educational environment in this institution. There was a significant difference in the overall DREEM score (p = 0.000) based on the year of study with highest mean score in first year (127.57 ± 13.81). Evaluating the sub-domains of perception, the students in all the years had a more positive perception of learning (29.22 ± 5.35), their perception of teachers moved in the right direction (26.52 ± 5.05), their academic self-perception was more on the positive side (21.23± 3.72), they had a more positive perception of atmosphere (28.56± 5.64) and their social self-perception could be graded as not too bad (17.13 ±3.08). No significant gender difference was noted for overall DREEM score and all domain scores. Conclusion: The present study revealed that all undergraduate physiotherapy students perceived their educational environment positively. However, some areas require remedial measures in order to enhance the educational experience. Advocating problem-based learning, student mentorship, counseling and workshops on teaching-learning for teachers might enable us to enrich our learning environment.

This descriptive type of cross-sectional study was conducted with the aim to find out the students’ perceptions on educational environment of selected dental colleges in Bangladesh. The study was carried out in ten selected dental colleges (4 government & 6 non-government) of Bangladesh. Total sample size was 1169 of different years of BDS students. Dental colleges were selected purposively & data was collected from students by adopting convenience sampling technique. Data collection was done with self-administered semi-structured questionnaire with two open questions using Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measurement (DREEM) inventory with some modification. There were five subscales of DREEM for students. Study results revealed that total DREEM score of students were 142. Mean score of students’ perceptions by subscale of DREEM were “students’ perception of their learning (34.95); students’ perception of their teachers (30.36); students’ academic self-perception (24.94); students’ perception of educational atmosphere (32.82) and students’ social self-perception (18.83). All these values indicated that the students’ perception were in the right & mostly positive direction. Study recommended that significant attention should be paid in few problematic areas specially for “too much teacher centered learning and over emphasized factual learning. Study also recommended to improve the logistic support for students of dental colleges to ensure better educational environment of Bangladesh. Background: Nursing students are important human resources in the field of health. Detection of potential anxiety and stress among nursing students is crucial since anxiety and stress can lead to low productivity, low quality of life, and suicidal ideas. Identifying factors affecting anxiety and stress in initial period of college among nursing students can help nursing educators to find ways to decrease anxiety and stress. Objectives: To assess the anxiety and stress among B.Sc. nursing first year students in their initial college life. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive research design was used for this study. Consecutive sampling technique was used to select the subjects. Total 13 students (100%) were taken as a sample and standardized Beck anxiety scale and modified scale for academic stress was used to collect data. Results: The study shows that majority of the students, 8 (61.5%) were in the age of 18 years old, follows Hindu religion, 10 (76.9%) belonged to upper caste, 11 (84.6%) stayed in urban area, 7 (53.8%) had no difficulty in this college. Out of 13, 2 (15.4%) students had moderate anxiety and 11 (84.60%) had low level of anxiety with 1.15 ±0.37 whereas 6 (46%) students had mild stress and 7 (54%) had moderate level of stress with 1.53 ±0.51. There were no significant association of anxiety score and stress score with age, ethnicity, residence, feeling difficulties in the college with p < 0.05; 6 (46%). There was low positive correlation between anxiety and academic stress with rp = 0.395. It was found that the cause of anxiety was due to college environment, seniors ragging, difficult subjects, delay session and can be reduced by stopping seniors ragging, providing transportation, starting session on time, counselling, providing lunch in canteen, friendly environment, free hours for library. Conclusions: Students who are newly taking admission to nursing profession will have mild form of psychological variation. Students are mainly faced with practical and academic stressors and anxiety. Hence the study strongly suggests that, starting session on time, time management, avoid ragging, student counselling are the most important factors to reduce anxiety and academic stress to the newly admitted students.

Background: Computer literacy and information literacy are critical to the future of nursing in this 21st century. The objective of the study is to identify the knowledge, attitude and application of computer by the BN 1st year nursing students. Methods: The study populations were 108 Bachelor of Nursing 1st year nursing students of the three different institutions. The research has adapted descriptive cross-sectional design. In this research study, purposive non- probability convenient sampling technique was adopted to select the nursing institutes. A self-administered structured questionnaire, Likert scale and semi structured questionnaire were used. Results: The majority of the respondents (44.4%) were from Central development region. The majority of the respondents (59.3%) had taken basic course on computer training. Also, Majority of the respondents 33.3% respondents had average knowledge on E-mail and Internet. Interestingly, majority (54.9%) respondents had used computer for medical information occasionally. Similarly, majority of the respondents (69.7%) strongly disagreed that ‘without computer, world would be better.’ Majority of the respondent (37%) often used Internet/E-mail and chatting in computer. Likewise, the majority of the respondents (40.7%) stated that computer is very useful in nursing education and research. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that there was a deficit in students. IT competencies should be integrated into the BN 1st year course. Background: Nursing students have extensive challenges throughout their student life which can lead to physical and psychological problems that cause poor educational performance. Mental health of the students is very essential in order to improve their study performance. We conducted this study to determine the prevalence of depression and its associated factors among nursing students in Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: An institutional based cross-sectional analytical study was accomplished among Post RN BSc. Nursing students at two Nursing Institutions of the Karachi. Data was collected with the help of validated questionnaires "Beck Depression Inventory tool" through convenient sampling technique. The total sample size was 150 participants. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 16.0. Chisquare test was applied to find out the association of depression with demographic variables. Level of significance was considered as at p-value 0.05. Results: The mean age of the student was 29.4 ± 5.67 years of standard deviation. Majority 78 (52%) of the participants were females. All respondents were from the Post RN BSc. Nursing program. More than half 84 (56%) of the participating students were from Semester-III. Only 4 (2.7%) of the subjects were from semester IV. A very high prevalence of depression 114 (76%) was found among nursing students. Among them, 63 (42%) had mild, 28 (18.7%) moderate, 17 (11.3%) severe and 6 (4%) were suffering from very severe depression. Participant's age and the semester was found statistically significant with depression. Conclusion: Present study concluded that depression is highly prevalent in nursing students of two different institutes of Karachi. It is equally important to give counseling session to the nursing students to empower them to cope effectively with present psychological illness for maintenance of their highest educational performance.

Professional nurses could be prepared through professional nursing programs. Professional nursing program is part of the nursing education program. One of the competencies required to be professional nurses is implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) to explore the best nursing interventions for patients to get optimal outcome. Nursing students have learned EBP during bachelor degree by analysis case using the EBP method. However, evaluation related  students' understanding of the method and its application of EBP to the clinical practice was none. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledge with student competency in the implementation of evidence based practice (EBP) to managed patients in the medical surgical nursing stage. This research is quantitative research. The sample in this study was 120 nursing students who were at professional nursing program that were recruited using total sampling technique. The instrument used is the Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) questionnaire. The results showed that more than half of the respondents had high knowledge (68%), and high competence (49%). This study shows a meaningful relationship between knowledge of student competence in applying EBP (r = .6070, p <0.01). The findings of this study are important for recommendations related to developing teaching materials in nursing education related to for providing the best service for patients.

At the time of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, several measures were in place to limit the spread of the virus, such as lockdown and restriction of social contacts. Many colleges thus had to shift their education from personal to online form overnight. The educational environment itself has a significant influence on students’ learning outcomes, knowledge, and satisfaction. This study aims to validate the tool for assessing the educational environment in the Slovenian nursing student population. To assess the educational environment, we used the DREEM tool distributed among nursing students using an online platform. First, we translated the survey questionnaire from English into Slovenian using the reverse translation technique. We also validated the DREEM survey questionnaire. We performed psychometric testing and content validation. I-CVI and S-CVI are at an acceptable level. A high degree of internal consistency was present, as Cronbach’s alpha was 0.951. The questionnaire was completed by 174 participants, of whom 30 were men and 143 were women. One person did not define gender. The mean age of students was 21.1 years (SD = 3.96). The mean DREEM score was 122.2. The mean grade of student perception of learning was 58.54%, student perception of teachers was 65.68%, student academic self-perception was 61.88%, student perception of the atmosphere was 60.63%, and social self-perception of students was 58.93%. Although coronavirus has affected the educational process, students still perceive the educational environment as positive. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement in all assessed areas.

Abstract Introduction Academic stress and study habits are crucial indicators of academic success. At the moment, faulty study habits press on the students into academic stress. The present study was conducted to identify the academic stress and study habits of university students of health science. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted among 150 undergraduate students of nursing, physiotherapy, and pharmacy (n = 50 in each group). A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. The information on academic stress and study habits was collected by using the Student Stress Inventory and Palsane and Sharma Study Habit Inventory, respectively. Results Mean score of academic stress was found to be 75.353 ± 16.463. Pharmacy students had a higher level of stress compared to physiotherapy and nursing students (p = 0.013). Furthermore, the prevalence of unsatisfactory study habits among undergraduate students was 72%, with a mean score of 52.7 ± 9.152. Also, nursing students had a higher level of study habits compared to physiotherapy and pharmacy Students. There was no significant relationship found between study habits and academic stress (r = −0.048, p = 0.557). There was a significant association found between study habits and gender (p = 0.021), as well the association found between stress level and course type, Pre-University Course percentage, and first-year percentage (p = 0.044, 0.04, and 0.044 respectively). Conclusion Academic stress and poor study habits are prevalent among undergraduate students. This indicates strategies need to be formed to enhance healthy study habits and alleviate the academic stress of the students, mainly in professional courses; it is an urgent need.
