Background & Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behavior, to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among Adolescents, and to associate the pre-test knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents with their selected demographic variables.Materials & Methods: A quantitative evaluative approach with a pre-experimental (one group pre test- post test) design was adopted; the setting of the study was Sri Vidya Mandir College, Salem, Tamilnadu. A Structured Self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of the adolescents. The systematic random sampling technique was used and 60 adolescents involved on Structured Teaching Programme regarding Risk factors and prevention of Suicidal Behaviour by using a Power-point slide presentation followed with pre-test. On 7th day, the post test was conducted. The data collection period of the study was 09.12.2014 to 15.12.2014.Results: The study findings revealed that during Pre-test, the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents, 45(75%) had inadequate knowledge, 15(25%) had moderately adequate knowledge and none of them had adequate knowledge. During post test, 23 adolescents (38.33%) had adequate knowledge, 37(61.67%) had moderately adequate knowledge and none of them had inadequate knowledge. The mean score during pre-test was 9.9±3.88 and the mean score during post test was 17.03±4.12. The paired ‘t’ value was 16.84 which were significant at p<0.05 level. Thus it shows that the structured teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents. There was no significant association found between the pre-test scores on knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour and the selected demographic variables at p<0.05 level. involved.Conclusion: The study concluded that the structured teaching programme was effective among adolescents to improve the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour.JCMS Nepal. 2015;11(3):25-29.

Back ground: An experimental study was conducted to assess the effects of instructional teaching programme (ITP) on knowledge and practices of mothers regarding prevention of pneumonia in children, Pooncherry, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, India.Objectives of the study were to assess the effectiveness of ITP on prevention of pneumonia on level of knowledge and practices among mothers of under five children. Materials and Methods: Non probability purposive technique was adopted for this study. Samples who met inclusion criteria were participated in the study. Self-structured interview schedule for knowledge  and structured rating scale for practices were used to collect the data. Results: The study results shows that in the pre test 15.13 % of the mothers had adequate knowledge, 24.34 % of the mothers were had moderately adequate knowledge and 60.53 % of the mothers had inadequate knowledge and  and in post test 63.17% of mothers were had adequate knowledge, 28.94% of the mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and very few (8.55% ) mothers had inadequate knowledge. Pre test practices score shows that 63.82 % of the mothers had less desirable practice, 22.37% of the mothers had moderate desirable practices and 13.81% were had highly desirable practices whereas in the post test 63.82% of them had highly desirable practice, 23.03% of them had moderate desirable practices and 13.16% of them had less desirable practices. The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.45 ± 1.47 and the mean posttest knowledge score was 8.49 ± 0.71 and the t value was 15.17, it shows that statistically there was an improvement in the post test knowledge score. The mean pretest practice score was 22.38 ± 2.76, the mean posttest practice score was 43.64 ±1.97 and the t value was 13.35, it shows that statistically there was a significant improvement in the post test practice score. The instructional teaching programme on prevention of pneumonia was statistically effective in promoting the knowledge and desirable practices among mothers.

Newborn babies constitute the foundation of life. The birth of a baby is one of the most awe inspiring and emotional events that can occur in one’s life time. In India most the mothers are not aware of management regarding minor disorder of newborn (vomiting, diarrhea, physiological jaundice conjunctivitis, umbilical cord infection, skin rashes etc). Mother plays an important role in the identifying minor developmental deviation and early evidences of the disease process because she is constantly and closely watching her baby. Methodology: pre experimental (one group pretest and posttest) design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted at postnatal ward AIIMS Raipur with sample size of 30 primipara mothers. Non probability convenient sampling technique was adopted to select the sample. The data was collected by means of self-structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge among primipara mothers. Result: The mean score of pre-test was 15.36 and mean score of post-test was 22.4 and the mean improvement was 7.04, which is 45.83% of total primipara mothers. The paired ‘t’ value obtained for knowledge was 10.41 which was found significant at 0.05 level (p<0.05) which is 2.05. Which result shows that significantly an improvement in the knowledge of the primipara mothers after the structured teaching programme (STP) on selected minor ailments of newborn.

To Assess the knowledge on ‘‘non pharmacological” pain management during First stage of labour among nursing students in the terms of pre-test. Evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on pain management during First stage of labour by comparing pre-test score on post-test knowledge score. Find out the association between knowledge scores among nursing students and selected demographic variables. The research approach selected was quantitative in nature and research design was pre experimental with one group pre-test post-test design. Sampling was done using convenient sampling using 60 student Nurses. The study was conducted in St Joseph College of nursing, Hoshangabad. The tools used for generating necessary data were structured knowledge questionnaire on non-pharmacological management of pain. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority of nursing students i.e. 36 (60%) have inadequate knowledge score, 24 (40%) had moderate knowledge score and none of them were having adequate knowledge. This study found that majority of nursing studentsi.e. 33 (55%) have gained adequate knowledge whereas 26 (43.3%) have gained moderate knowledge and 1 (1.6%) with inadequate knowledge after administration of structured teaching programme on nonpharmacological methods on reduction of labour pain. The findings of the present study shows that the mean post-test knowledge score (20.6) was apparently higher than the mean pre-test score (11.08). The difference between pre-interventional and post-interventional knowledge was 8.8. The statistical significance between pre and post-test knowledge is evident by‘t’ value of 14.02 at 0.05 level of significance. Hence, there is significant increase in the knowledge level of nursing studentsafter structured teaching programme. The structured teaching program was effective in enhancing the knowledge of the student nurses on non-pharmacological management of pain during first stage of labour.

Pregnancy in woman’s life brings many perspective changes. For the first-time mothers, which initiates a new social role, and they experience motherhood. Pregnancy happenings take place both emotionally and physically in mothers. The changes like neuroendocrine and biological that occur during pregnancy have profound psychological effects on expectant mothers. The pregnancy brings many emotions that play a very vital role in the development of the fetus during pregnancy. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programs on pregnancy-related specific emotions, and it’s management among Primigravida women. Methodology is a quantitative evaluative study was conducted among 60 Primigravida women of selected community, Bailhongal. The pre-experimental, one-group pre-test, and post-test research design was selected. Results: In the pre-test, the majority of the Primigravida women had 56.7% inadequate knowledge and 38.3% had moderate knowledge. After administration of structured teaching programme, 66.7% of the subjects had adequate knowledge; 23.3% had moderate knowledge and only 10% had inadequate knowledge regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions, and it’s management in the post-test. The overall analysis of level of knowledge of Primigravida women regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions and its management showed that mean knowledge scores of the subjects at pre-test were 13.75 (45.83%) found to be inadequate knowledge regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions and its management. After administration of structured teaching program, mean knowledge scores of the subjects at post-test were 23.5 (78.33%) found to be significant. Conclusion: Findings of the study show that there was a significant difference in pre-test and post-test knowledge scores of Primigravida women. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding utilization of crash cart trolley among III -B.Sc Nursing students at selected college, Villupuram Objectives: To assess the knowledge on utilization of crash cart trolley among III-year, B.Sc [N] students. To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding utilization of crash cart trolley among III year, B.Sc [N] students. To find the association between the post-test knowledge regarding utilization of crash cart trolley among III year, B.Sc [N] students with their selected socio-demographic variables. Methodology: A Pre experimental design with pre-test and post-test without control group was undertaken from E.S College of nursing. The population of the study consists of B.Sc (N) III Year students at E.S. College of nursing. Results: The structured questionnaire was used to computed the data. The statistics shows the following results. Level of knowledge in pre-test 80% of students having inadequate knowledge, 20% of students having moderate knowledge, 0% of students having adequate knowledge. Level of knowledge in post-test 0% of students having inadequate knowledge, 10% of students having moderate knowledge, 90% of students having adequate knowledge. There was significant with gender and source of information. There was no association between age, previous academic year percentage, previous exposure to crash cart trolley. Conclusion: The present study assessed the knowledge regarding crash cart trolley in pre-test. After providing structured teaching programme on utilization of crash cart trolley there is a significant improvement on knowledge of students regarding crash cart trolley. The study assessed the knowledge among students and they are gained in knowledge about crash cart trolley. Pregnancy is a special event in women’s life, as it is unique for the mother child binominal. Maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality remain unacceptably high, despite a focus on improving the health of pregnant women and newborns through Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5. The main aim of this study is to identify the level of knowledge on preparation and management of labour among primigravida women in the age group of 20-35 years. A pre experimental one group pre test and post test design was selected and purposive sampling technique was adapted to recruit the sample. The sample size was 30. Tools like demographic variables, structured interview schedule and structured teaching programme on preparation and management of labour were used. At the first day, pre test was conducted and structured teaching on preparation and management of labour was administered for group of antenatal women. After one week post test was conducted by same tool. Data analysis was done by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority (50%) of the women were in the age group of 21-25 years. The overall mean score in pre test was 12.16±4.4 and the mean percentage was 40.53. In post test the overall mean score was 22.76±7.26 and the mean percentage was 75.87. The calculated ‘t’ value is 10.18 at 0.05 level of significance. It depicts that structured teaching on preparation and management of labour was highly effective. There was no significant association between the demographic variables of primigravida women and the pre and post test knowledge scores.

Background : Worldwide, about 65 million people have moderate to severe COPD. It’s estimated that 12 million more have the disease, but don’t know it yet. Most people with COPD are 40 years of age or older. The majority of people with COPD are smokers or former smokers. Smoking is the most important risk factor that can be changed. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of COPD patients regarding pulmonary rehabilitation. Methods: Pre experimental design of one group pre and post test group design was selected for the study. Evaluative approach was adopted for the study. The participants were 60 COPD patients from the Manjunath hospital, Bangalore. Using Purposive sampling technique samples were selected. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data from the subjects. Results: Findings of the study revealed that in pretest, out of 60 patients, 45(75.0%) had inadequate knowledge, 15(25.0%) had moderate knowledge and none of the patients had adequate knowledge. In post test, out of 60 mothers, 46(76.7%) had adequate knowledge, 14(23.3%) had moderate knowledge and none of the mothers had inadequate knowledge. Enhancement was computed by using paired ‘t’ test at 0.05 level of significance and it was found to be 19.27,indicating that there is a significant improvement in the knowledge on pulmonary rehabilitation among COPD patients. There was statistically significant association found between demographic variables such as age, gender, smoking status and source of information with pre-test level of knowledge on pulmonary rehabilitation. Conclusion: The study concluded that the structured teaching program was effective in terms of gain in knowledge of COPD patients regarding pulmonary rehabilitation. For health policy makers, the results of the current study urge for the development of COPD prevention programs failing which the burden of COPD might result in increased mortality, morbidity and economic burden.

BACKGROUND HIV infection is one of the most leading infections in the world. According to WHO HIV constitutes to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million so far. There were an estimation of 38.0 million people living with the HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV , coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). There is no cure of HIV infections , however effective antiretroviral drugs can the control of virus and help onward transmission to other people. The knowledge regarding HIV infections in the public is a not much. The study focuses on the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge regarding the HIV among the drivers in Kancheepuram, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pre and post test of the self instructional module. For the study 60 samples were adopted by purposive sampling technique. The pre test was conducted by giving the structured questionnare then the module was given and then the post assessment was conducted. The study was conducted for 1 week. In the pre assessment 52(86.7%) were having inadequate knowledge and 8(13.3%) had moderately inadequate knowledge. In the post test 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10(16.67%) has adequate knowledge. The effectivess of self instructional module was calculated by the paired t test (t=12.880) was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 OBJECTIVE To assess the pre test level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. (2)To determine the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV among drivers. (3)To find the association between the level of knowledge with their selected demographic variables METHODS Quantative research approach and pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV to drivers. After obtaining permission from Saveetha College Of Nursing , the investigator selected 60 drivers by using purposive sampling technique. The sample who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique . The investigator introduced and explained the purpose of the study to the samples and obtain the written confirmed. The purpose of the study were explained to the drivers. Section A: It consist of the demographic variables which include Age, sex, education. Occupation, monthly income, religion, marital status, type of family and dietary pattern.Section B- It consist 25 multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module. RESULTS The drivers most of them 26(43.3%) were in the age group of 41 – 50 years, all 60(100%) were male, 45(75%) were private employee, 21(35%) had monthly income of 9000 – 11000 and above 11000 respectively, 45(75%) were married, 32(53.3%) belonged to nuclear family 45(75%) were non-vegetarian. Section B : Assess the pretest level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. The finding of the pretest 52(86.67%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(13.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Whereas in the post test, 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10( 16.67%) had adequate knowledge on HIV among drivers CONCLUSIONS The findings revealed that the existing level of knowledge on HIV among drivers was improve the knowledge about HIV to be effective awareness by administered self instructional module

Background: Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Mothers of toddlers should have knowledge on Autism to identify the child in earlier age and to treat the child. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. The objectives were to find out the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers and to find out the association between the level of knowledge on autism and selected demographic variables of the mothers of toddlers. Materials and Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive study was conducted. The sampling technique was snow ball sampling technique with the sample of 50 mothers of toddlers and questionnaires were formulated, a structured interview schedule was used to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the collected data. The data collection procedure was done for period of 2 weeks. The study was initiated after obtaining prior permission from the concern authorities. Results: The findings of this study revealed that 44% of the mothers of toddlers had inadequate knowledge, 44% had moderately adequate knowledge and only 2% had adequate knowledge on autism. There was significant association between level of knowledge and demographic variables such as age, occupation and previous knowledge on Autism of mothers of toddlers.

Aim: The study aims to create awareness among Tobacco users on knowledge regarding Oral Health Hazards. Objectives: i) To assess the pre and post test level of knowledge of oral health hazards among tobacco users. ii) To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge of oral health hazards among tobacco users. iii) To find the association between post test level of knowledge regarding oral health hazards among tobacco users with their socio demographic variables. Methods & Materials: A quantitative research approach-Pre-experimental research design with one group pre test and post test design was adopted. 50 samples were selected for the study by using non probability purposive sampling technique. Results: The study findings shows that in pre test level of knowledge among 50 samples 42(84%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(16%) had moderate adequate knowledge. In post test level of knowledge among 50 samples 33(66%) had moderate adequate knowledge and 17(34%) had had excellent knowledge. The pre test mean was 5.74 with the standard deviation of 10.29 and the post test mean was 14.6 with the standard deviation of 9.91 the mean difference of pre and post is 8.86; standard error is 1.401 ‘t’ value is 34.775 significant at p<0.05 it indicates that the knowledge level of tobacco users improved after structured teaching programme. The finding of the study shows that there is significant association between level of knowledge with occupation p<0.05. Conclusion: The study finding shows that, the post test level of knowledge is better than the pre-test knowledge. Hence it can be concluded that, structured teaching programme on oral health hazards was effective in improving the knowledge level among tobacco users.
