Newborn babies constitute the foundation of life. The birth of a baby is one of the most awe inspiring and emotional events that can occur in one’s life time. In India most the mothers are not aware of management regarding minor disorder of newborn (vomiting, diarrhea, physiological jaundice conjunctivitis, umbilical cord infection, skin rashes etc). Mother plays an important role in the identifying minor developmental deviation and early evidences of the disease process because she is constantly and closely watching her baby. Methodology: pre experimental (one group pretest and posttest) design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted at postnatal ward AIIMS Raipur with sample size of 30 primipara mothers. Non probability convenient sampling technique was adopted to select the sample. The data was collected by means of self-structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge among primipara mothers. Result: The mean score of pre-test was 15.36 and mean score of post-test was 22.4 and the mean improvement was 7.04, which is 45.83% of total primipara mothers. The paired ‘t’ value obtained for knowledge was 10.41 which was found significant at 0.05 level (p<0.05) which is 2.05. Which result shows that significantly an improvement in the knowledge of the primipara mothers after the structured teaching programme (STP) on selected minor ailments of newborn.

Background & Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behavior, to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among Adolescents, and to associate the pre-test knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents with their selected demographic variables.Materials & Methods: A quantitative evaluative approach with a pre-experimental (one group pre test- post test) design was adopted; the setting of the study was Sri Vidya Mandir College, Salem, Tamilnadu. A Structured Self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of the adolescents. The systematic random sampling technique was used and 60 adolescents involved on Structured Teaching Programme regarding Risk factors and prevention of Suicidal Behaviour by using a Power-point slide presentation followed with pre-test. On 7th day, the post test was conducted. The data collection period of the study was 09.12.2014 to 15.12.2014.Results: The study findings revealed that during Pre-test, the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents, 45(75%) had inadequate knowledge, 15(25%) had moderately adequate knowledge and none of them had adequate knowledge. During post test, 23 adolescents (38.33%) had adequate knowledge, 37(61.67%) had moderately adequate knowledge and none of them had inadequate knowledge. The mean score during pre-test was 9.9±3.88 and the mean score during post test was 17.03±4.12. The paired ‘t’ value was 16.84 which were significant at p<0.05 level. Thus it shows that the structured teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour among adolescents. There was no significant association found between the pre-test scores on knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour and the selected demographic variables at p<0.05 level. involved.Conclusion: The study concluded that the structured teaching programme was effective among adolescents to improve the knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention of suicidal behaviour.JCMS Nepal. 2015;11(3):25-29.

Pregnancy is a special event in women’s life, as it is unique for the mother child binominal. Maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality remain unacceptably high, despite a focus on improving the health of pregnant women and newborns through Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5. The main aim of this study is to identify the level of knowledge on preparation and management of labour among primigravida women in the age group of 20-35 years. A pre experimental one group pre test and post test design was selected and purposive sampling technique was adapted to recruit the sample. The sample size was 30. Tools like demographic variables, structured interview schedule and structured teaching programme on preparation and management of labour were used. At the first day, pre test was conducted and structured teaching on preparation and management of labour was administered for group of antenatal women. After one week post test was conducted by same tool. Data analysis was done by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority (50%) of the women were in the age group of 21-25 years. The overall mean score in pre test was 12.16±4.4 and the mean percentage was 40.53. In post test the overall mean score was 22.76±7.26 and the mean percentage was 75.87. The calculated ‘t’ value is 10.18 at 0.05 level of significance. It depicts that structured teaching on preparation and management of labour was highly effective. There was no significant association between the demographic variables of primigravida women and the pre and post test knowledge scores.

A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding text neck syndrome among young adults in a selected college at Alappuzha District. The objectives of the study were to assess the mean knowledge score regarding text neck syndrome among young adults, to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding text neck syndrome among young adults and to find out the association between pretest knowledge score and selected socio demographic variables. The Conceptual framework was based on Nola J Pender’s Health Promotion model (1982). The study was conducted at Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara. among 60 young adults, who were selected by disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. The pretest level of knowledge was assessed using structured knowledge questionnaire and structured teaching programme was given. Posttest was conducted after 7days.The result showed that the mean posttest knowledge score 20.26 with SD 3.15 was significantly higher than the pretest mean score 8.43 with SD 2.48 with a mean difference of 11.83. Since the calculated ‛t’ value 35.45 which was greater than the table value (2.00) with degree of freedom 59 at p<0.05 level of significance. Hence the study revealed that structured teaching programme on text neck syndrome was effective in improving the knowledge of young adults. The association between pretest and selected socio demographic variables showed that the pretest knowledge scores was influenced by year of study (p<0.05), family monthly income (p<0.05) and source of information (p<0.05).

Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of planned teaching programme (PTP) on knowledge regarding cervical cancer among women at selected urban area Karad and to find out the association between knowledge scores with selected sociodemographic variables among women in selected urban areas at Karad.Methods: Evaluative research approach was used for the study and conducted in urban area Koyana Vasahat, Karad, Maharashtra, India, using one group pre- and post-test design. Systematic proportionate sampling technique was used for selecting 60 women. On the 1st day, structured knowledge questionnaire was used for collecting data, and PTP on knowledge regarding cervical cancer was conducted, followed by posttest on the 7th  day. The data collected, tabulated, and analyzed in terms of objectives of the study using descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The mean pretest value was 7 and the mean posttest value was 11 with a difference of 4. The paired t-value was 10.2, (p<0.05) showing a significant increase in the knowledge regarding cervical cancer and its prevention. There was no significant association between knowledge scores of women with the selected demographic variables.Conclusion: The study showed that the PTP on cervical cancer was effective in improving the knowledge of women and thus helps them to understand the harmful effects of cervical cancer as well as to take necessary steps for early detection and prevention.Keywords: Effectiveness, Planned teaching programme, Cervical cancer, Knowledge, Women.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the common gastrointestinal complaints presented in developing and developed countries. Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma are the major complications of GERD. A Quantitative research approach, pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used to conduct the study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding the management and prevention of complications of Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) among patients with GERD. A total of 60 Samples were selected by non-probability purposive sampling technique. A pretest was done using a semi-structured questionnaire, followed by which, a structured teaching programme was provided. A post-test using a same semi-structured questionnaire was given to the same samples. Before STP, 76.7% of the subjects had an inadequate level of knowledge score, and none of them had an adequate level of knowledge score. But after the pedagogical way of effective STP, none of the patients had an inadequate level of knowledge score, 16.7% of them had moderate and 83.3% of them had an adequate level of knowledge score. Elder and graduated subjects were significantly associated with their post-test level of knowledge score regarding management and prevention of complications of GERD. The study proved that STP was immensely effective for the patients with GERD (c2=58.00 at P=0.001 level of significance) attending the Gastroenterology outpatient department at RGGGH, Chennai.

Aim: to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and attitude regarding vitamin A deficiency and its prophylaxis among mothers of under five children. Objectives: (1). To assess the knowledge and attitude among mothers of under five children on vitamin A deficiency and its Prophylaxis. (2). To find the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme in terms of gaining knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding Vitamin A deficiency and its prophylaxis for under five children. (3). To find association between the pre test level of knowledge and attitude among mothers of under five children with their selected demographic variables. Methodology: A pre experimental research design was adopted for the study. 50 samples were selected by using non probability convenience sampling technique. The pre and post test level knowledge and attitude was assessed by using structured knowledge questionnaires and attitude scale respectively. Results: The pre test mean was 7.76 with the standard deviation of 2.17 and the post test mean was 16.68 with the standard deviation of 1.81. The mean difference of pre and post test is 8.92; standard error is 0.281. The ‘T’ value is 31.74 is Highly Significant at p<0.05.The pre test mean was 8.98 with the standard deviation of 3.47 and the post test mean was 24.56 with the standard deviation of 3.45. The mean difference of pre and post test is 15.58; standard error is 0.43. The ‘T’ value is 36.23 is Highly Significant p<0.05. Hence it indicates the knowledge and attitude level of mothers are improved after structured teaching programme. Conclusion: The study concluded that structured teaching programme was effective and improved knowledge and attitude regarding vitamin A deficiency and its prophylaxis among mothers of under five children. Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a technique of the basic life support, which helps to maintain blood circulation in the victim's brain and heart during cardiac arrest or during the absence of pulse and breath. Adults are more active and long-time information delivers, but non-medical people are not having the knowledge regarding emergencies managements, hence this study was conducted to assess the knowledge and check the effectiveness of STP regarding CPR among Undergraduate students.Methods: Quantitative approach with Quasi-Experimental research design was used in the present study with Simple random sampling technique to select 61 undergraduate students at Himalayan School Of Management, Jollygrant, Dehradun. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect the data and followed by administrating the structured teaching programme (STP).Results: Findings of the present study showed that the mean post test score (25.80±3.0) was higher than pre-test mean score (13.18±3.3). Arbitrary score reviled that, in pre-test majority of the (undergraduate) UG students had (60.65%) Average knowledge, most of the UG students had (36.06%) poor knowledge, only (3.27%) had the good level of knowledge. Where in post-test, maximum students had very good knowledge (62.92%), most UG students had 36.06% good knowledge and only 1.63% had average knowledge which showed that the knowledge had increased after administration of (STP), Calculated t value was 19.327 and found highly significant at p<0.001.Conclusions: The findings of the study revealed that STP was an effective method to enhance the knowledge of undergraduate students regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation. So the study concluded that structured teaching program had a great potential for improving the knowledge of undergraduate students.

It has been observed that the psychiatric emergencies were frequently occur in the society so its knowledge is necessary for the staff nurses. Hence I felt the need to undertake a study on Effectiveness of structured teaching programmed on knowledge of staff nurses regarding psychiatric emergencies in order to meet the challenges of crises later. Sampling is the process of selecting sample from the target population to represent the entire population. Convenience sampling is a type of non-probability sampling method where subjects selected because of their convenient accessibility and 30 proximity to the researcher. In the present study convenience sampling technique is used to select the sample. These was marked improvement of scores in the post test is 46.67% sample were having excellent knowledge, 41.67% sample were having very good knowledge, 10% sample were having good knowledge and 1.66% sample were having average knowledge. The statistical outcomes of demographic variables of staff nurses residing in selected hospitals in the city, effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding selected psychiatric emergencies among staff nurses residing of selected hospitals in the city using descriptive and inferential statistics on the basis of previously drawn objectives.

Abstract: Background: Suffering from minor ailments is the most frequent episode in childhood experiences. A productive and energetic population cannot grow from unhealthy children who are chronically affected by repeated minor ailments. Method: An evaluative study using one group pretest posttest design was conducted among 30 school children of 9th class in a selected school of Udupi taluk, Karnataka to assess the knowledge of school children regarding the management of minor ailments and to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding management of minor ailments. Results: Majority of children 17 (56 .7 %) had average knowledge in the pretest and only 4(13.3%) children had poor knowledge. There was a significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest knowledge scores on management of minor ailments among school children which indicated that the structured teaching programme on management of minor ailments was found to be effective(t= 9.702, P<0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that the teaching programme was effective in bringing the desired changes in the knowledge of the school children.

Background: Child abuse is a significant global problem with a serious impact on the victims throughout their lives. According to WHO (2013) which estimates that the international level of prevalence in child abuse and neglect was approximately 50500 children were at the risk of abuse right now. Objectives of the study was to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program regarding child abuse.Methods: Research design was quasi experimental one group pre-test-post-test design used & setting was selected rural areas of Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, UP. Samples 73 mothers were selected by purposive sampling technique. Tools were used as self-structured knowledge questionnaire.Results: Revealed that the mean score of the pre-test knowledge was 10.42 with SD of 1.95 whereas the mean score of the post-test knowledge score was 17.61 and SD was 1.7. Based on the findings researcher compared the calculated t value i.e. 21.05 and the tabulated value i.e.1.99 on 72 degrees of freedom at 0.05 level of significance. Since the calculated value was higher than the tabulated value the researcher rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis. Which revealed that there was a significant increase in the level of knowledge.Conclusions: Thus the structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding child abuse was effective.
