Sport and physical activity can play significant role in the lives of persons with disabilities. Participating in sports can improve their health and physical capacities, promote constructive use of their time, as well as provide a better way to integrate and be included in the community. The aim of this qualitative study was to gain insight into perspectives of six coaches regarding their work as para taekwondo trainers. The results present the challenges in the coaches’ work, ways of dealing with difficulties related to para taekwondo training, and positive training outcomes. The challenges faced by coaches indicate acceptance of the abilities of the athletes, ascribed incompetence to athletes with disabilities, lack of trust in the abilities of athletes among people in their social environment, and aggressive behaviour exhibited by persons with intellectual disabilities. Other challenges include limited financial resources, the importance of becoming aware of one’s own prejudice about the capabilities of individuals with disabilities, and building relationships with athletes with disabilities. The coaches deal with difficulties related to para taekwondo training by educating themselves and others, applying an individualised approach to training, cooperating with people from the social environment of athletes with disabilities, and considering the work done with athletes with disabilities as a reward. They recognise positive training outcomes for athletes with disabilities through improvements in bodily functioning, better self-image, and further inclusion in the community.

In this paper, we primarily dealt with the low representation of persons with disabilities in the tertiary education system and targeted specific barriers that keep people with disabilities outside the tertiary education process. The mentioned problem was approached from the perspective of social exclusion and one of the main tasks of the conducted research was to gain insight into the types of barriers that affect persons with different types of disabilities depending on their student status (they did not enroll at a university, they discontinued their studies, they are currently studying, they have completed their studies). The results were gained by conducting in-depth interviews covering all the mentioned categories of persons with disabilities. The results of the research point to the existence of numerous obstacles that people with disabilities face in the process of acquiring tertiary education. It has turned out that the surveyed persons with disabilities face insurmountable obstacles in the form of architectural, institutional and social barriers, depending on the type of disability and their social environment.

Background. The modern education system needs competent and qualified specialists, including psychologists who work with students with disabilities. Training psychologists who are able to work in a modern system of inclusive education is becoming the most important task of higher education. Professional training involves the formation of objective ideas about a person with disabilities. Aim. The paper aims to identify the ideas of psychology students about the personality of an individual with disabilities. Materials and methods. The study involved 53 3rd-year psychology and pedagogy students of Omsk State Pedagogical University. Content analysis was used to analyze students essays. Three categories were identified and characterized: “Perceptions of a person with limited health opportunities”, “Perceptions of oneself”, “Perceptions of the social environment”. Results. It has been established that the highest frequency is inherent in the category “Perceptions of a person with limited health opportunities”, which reflects well-formed representations of students about the personal qualities and psychological needs of people with disabilities. The ideas about the social environment of persons with disabilities, as well as about their own personality, were formed to a lesser extent. Conclusion. The obtained results allow us to draw general conclusions regarding the fragmentation of ideas about a person with limited health opportunities. The psychology students have the right ideas about the psychological resources needed by people with impaired development for successful social integration and partially correct ideas regarding the needs of this category of people. The obtained data reveal new information about the features of the formation of professional ideas in psychology students specializing in the psychological and pedagogical support of people with limited health opportunities.

The socio-political fiction novel is generally realistic and gives an implicit picture of the social environment of a place. This type of reading is less popular because it is difficult to interpret and is also of less interest to readers than other literature. One of the works that can reflect this literary type is the novel entitled “Orang-Orang Proyek” by Ahmad Tohari, which represents the real condition of the Indonesian community under their politic and social circumstances. This paper tries to break down the literary work using the deconstructive-reading method to read a text with multi-interpretation understanding where the version contains many probabilities of meaning. This study will be able to provide insight into the correct reading method according to the purpose and type of literacy used in literary works.

The analysis of shame, understood as a basic emotion that articulates social relationships, affords insight into the embodied experience of social processes. This paper presents the preliminary results of a research study focusing on how this emotion operates in the relationships and experiences of middle-aged (34–45 years) heterosexual men living alone in Madrid (Spain). We are particularly interested in exploring how shame intercedes when these men challenge or fail to fully adapt to the norms of adult romantic relationships and social expectations regarding having a stable partner. Our analysis aims to characterize this population group and describe how they use instant messaging groups and online dating apps. We focus on how shame is articulated in these interactions and the effects this has on men’s subjectivity and self-image, in order to explore the different ways in which they activate and modulate expressions of modern-day masculinity. In short, we suggest that circuits of shame trigger certain forms of subjection which clearly emerge in mediated communications, an arena in which, in the case of men who live alone, the rupture with the social norm is defensively re-worked, inverting the sense of self and embodying a set of tensions and ambivalences.

This chapter introduces the entrepreneurship-as-networking perspective. The authors argue that a focus on the social-interactive aspects and action orientation of entrepreneurship is needed. They contribute an integrated account in which the entrepreneur’s agency is combined with a greater emphasis on the social environment. The importance of social relations and the associated interactions between entrepreneurs and their environment give insight into key entrepreneurial processes. These are (a) the origins of opportunities, (b) how entrepreneurs access resources and subsequently mobilize and deploy them, and (c) the ways entrepreneurs build legitimacy, facilitating them to act on perceived new combinations and thereby exploit their potential.

There has been low confidence in the replicability and reproducibility of published psychological findings. Previous work has demonstrated that a population of psychologists exists that have used questionable research practices (QRPs), or behaviors during data collection, analysis, and publication that can increase the number of false-positive findings in the scientific literature. The present work sought to estimate the current size of the QRP using population of American psychologists and to identify if this sub-population of scientists is stigmatized. Using a direct estimator, we estimate 18.8% of American psychologists have used at least one QRP in the past 12 months. This estimate rises to 24.40% when using the generalized network scale up estimator, an estimating method that utilizes the academic social networks of participants. Furthermore, attitudes of psychologists towards QRP users, and observed behavioral data collected from self-reported QRP users suggest that QRP users are a stigmatized sub-population of psychologists. Together, these findings provide better insight into how many psychologists use questionable practices and how they exist in the social environment.

Identity isn’t given once and for all:it is built up and changes throughout a person’s lifetime.1The aim of this paper is to determine how and to what extent Fazıl Say, whose inspiration, according to his own words, is the bridge between Europe and Asia, has become an ambassador between Europe and Turkey.2 A further aim is to determine whether Fazıl Say may be referred to as ‘hybrid’ concerning both his person and his works. This will be done first by describing his background and then the conditions which led not only to his European, but also his global success. Assuming that not only his family, social environment and education were decisive in this process, the social changes that took place in Turkey following the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923 are detailed, with special consideration of the reforms directly affecting art and music. To offer more insight into this context, the mutual influences on music between the Ottoman Empire and Europe are outlined.

Abstract. Research on the neural mechanisms underlying Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) has mostly concentrated on abnormalities in basal ganglia circuits. Recent alternative accounts, however, focused more on social and affective aspects. Individuals with GTS show peculiarities in their social and affective domain, including echophenomena, coprolalia, and nonobscene socially inappropriate behavior. This article reviews the experimental and theoretical work done on the social symptoms of GTS. We discuss the role of different social cognitive and affective functions and associated brain networks, namely, the social-decision-making system, theory-of-mind functions, and the so-called “mirror-neuron” system. Although GTS affects social interactions in many ways, and although the syndrome includes aberrant social behavior, the underlying cognitive, affective, and neural processes remain to be investigated.
