The aim of this article is to present the positive evolution of the presence of comics in libraries while also identifying the reasons why their effective incorporation into libraries continues to be nonuniform rather than generalized. Large comic collections are not common in Spain, and the few examples present in most centers continue to be considered a strange element among other formats. Although some misunderstanding from librarians may persist, we identify some known difficulties regarding their inclusion, including persistent problems regarding their acquisition, a preference for other formats due to budget shortfalls, and the difficulty regarding the bibliographic processing of comics.

PurposeThis paper analyses the evolution of the financial inclusion and its main determinants in seven Latin American countries.Design/methodology/approachThe database used is the Global Findex from the World Bank for the latest data released that includes the years 2011 and 2014. The variables used are formal financial accounts, formal savings and formal credit as proxies of financial inclusion for the years of study. Moreover, the use of debit and credit cards is considered. The methodologies applied are the mean difference tests, in order to contrast the hypotheses of the inclusion evolution and binary probit regressions models.FindingsThe results of the analysis show that there is a positive evolution in the use of financial instruments in the countries of the sample, especially in the use of formal accounts. On the other hand, considering the characteristics of the individuals, age, level of education and income positively affect their financial inclusion.Originality/valueThere are no similar works for the region of study that allow us to evaluate the evolution of financial inclusion considering the variables selected in the literature. It is possible to clearly fulfil the proposed objective, highlighting the importance of implementing financial inclusion policies in view of the low percentage of use of the instruments in the analyzed countries.

Although the educational level of the population has improved considerably over the last decades, Portugal still lags far behind the other European countries. Premature school drop-out, along with high retention rates, appear to be the main reasons for this. Consequently, Portugal is the EU country with the largest percentage of workers with low educational levels, and the Central Region of Portugal is the one with the least favourable record. Indeed, in spite of the positive evolution egistered among the youngest, it is still disturbing to find that only 27.1% (61.8% in the EU) of the economically active young peoplebetween the ages of 15 and 24 finished their secondary education or pursued vocational training and that 3% did not even finish the first cycle of basic education. This situation inevitably hinders the formation of human capital, prevents the expansion of productivity and curbs the competitiveness of the productive fabric,as well as economic growth.

Background: Orbital cellulitis is a diagnostic and therapeutic emergency, jeopardizing the  vital and functional prognosis. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological, therapeutic and evolutional aspects of orbital cellulitis cases treated at the pediatric service at Mohamed V military hospital. Patients and methods: retrospective study including all the children aged between 1 month and 15 years treated for orbital cellulitis at the pediatric service of the Mohamed V Hospital over a period of 3 years (1st January 2016-31st December 2019). Results: 24 cases of orbital cellulitis were gathered. Age varied between 1 month and 15 years with a median of age of 6. years. Feminine predominance (58%) was noted . The disease mainly involved the sinus (32%).Clinically, fever was present in 10 patients (41%),palpebral edema was universal, proptosis was noted in 5 cases(20.8%),chemosis and ptosis were noted in 4 cases(16.6%),bacteriological testing identified micro-organisms in 3 cases. An orbital CT scan was performed in all cases of our study, showing preseptal cellulitis in 14 cases (58.3%), orbital cellulitis in 3 cases(12.5%),and orbital abscess in 7 cases. The medical treatment consisted of ceftriaxone, metronidazole and aminoside or amoxicilline clavulanic acid, corticosteroid therapy prescribed in 5 cases. Surgical treatment was indicated in 3 patients. The outcome of All cases was favorable. Conclusion: The majority of our cases had a positive evolution highlighting the advantage of an early diagnosis, and adapted antibiotic and a multidisciplinary patient care making the need for surgery rarely necessary.

This research work is conceived as the analysis of the nursing care process in a user with a diagnosis of Acinetobacter baumannii, for the methodology used is descriptive, with a non-experimental qualitative approach, since a study is carried out on the records of the nursing care applied to a polytraumatized patient with a history of a car accident, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit from the operating room, and later diagnosed with infection by Acinetobacter Baumannii, for which a care plan based on NANDA taxonomies was developed, NOC and NIC emphasizing the hemodynamic and respiratory improvement, which allowed the patient to achieve a positive evolution, managing to discharge her to general hospitalization without ventilator support.

Purpose In 2017, the Journal of Knowledge Management (JKM) celebrates its 20th anniversary. This study aims to show an updated analysis of their publications to provide a general overview of the journal, focusing on a bibliometric analysis of its publications between 1997 and 2016. Design/methodology/approach The methodology involves two procedures: a performance analysis and a science mapping analysis of JKM. The performance analysis uses a series of bibliometric indicators such as h-index, productivity and citations. This analysis considers different dimensions, including papers, authors, universities and countries. VOSviewer software is used to carry out the mapping of science of JKM, which, based on the concurrence of key words and co-citation points of view, seeks to graphically analyze the structure of the references of this journal. Findings There is a positive evolution in the number of publications (although with certain oscillations), which shows a growing interest in publishing in JKM. The USA and the UK lead the publications in this journal, although at a regional level, Europe is the most productive. The low participation of emerging economies in JKM is also observed. Practical implications The paper will identify the leading trends in the journal in terms of papers, authors, institutions, countries, journals and keywords. This study is useful for obtaining a quick snapshot of what is happening in the journal. Originality/value From the historical record of JKM publications, this study presents an exclusive bibliometric analysis of its publications until 2016 and identifies its main trends.

Assessment is an important phase of the teaching and learning processes. Assessment generates a big amount of data, which in the case of summative assessment is in the form of students' grades. In e-assessment application, these grades are easily collected and stored. The analysis of the grades is very important to directly evaluate e-assessment and thus indirectly evaluate the teaching and learning processes. This chapter presents a practical example of analysis of grades obtained during an e-assessment process implementation using statistical methods. Important tips on how to correctly use these statistical methods are presented throughout the chapter. The analysis concerns seven years, and a positive evolution of the grades is verified.

AbstractThe economic crisis that has been seen worldwide affects developing countries such as Brazil even more severely. Worsening budget shortfalls for the healthcare system progressively threaten patient care. Infection control programs also are affected, and basic preventive policies are not implemented. Infection control practitioners face lack of equipment and poor microbiological support. In contrast, the motivation of the infection control people can be maintained through training courses, conferences, and meetings. Administrative support may be the most important single factor determining success in decreasing the infection control rate and should be (but is not always) provided, given that several infection control measures are cost effective.

Genome wide association studies (GWAS) of Schizophrenia (SZ) patients have identified common variants in ten genes including SMARCA2 (Koga et al., HMG, 2009). We found that the SZ-GWAS genes are part of an interacting network centered on SMARCA2 (Loe-Mie et al., HMG, 2010). Furthermore, SMARCA2 was found disrupted in SZ (Walsh et al., Science, 2008). SMARCA2 encodes the ATPase (BRM) of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex that is at the interface of genome and environmental adaptation.Taking advantage of an Algerian trio cohort of one hundred SZ patients (Benmessaoud et al., BMC Psychiatry, 2008), we replicated the association of SNP rs2296212 localized in exon 33, already shown associated in Koga study and resulting in D1546E amino acid change in the SMARCA2 protein. We studied SMARCA2 codons and found that exon 33 displays a signature of positive evolution in the primate lineage. Our working hypothesis is that the coding regions displaying positive selection are target of novel rare variants. To address this question, we sequenced two exons displaying positive evolution and one exon without evidence of positive evolution. We found (i) that rare variants are significantly in excess in SZ-patients compared to their parents (p = 0.038, Fisher test) and (ii) a higher proportion of rare variants in the primate-accelerated exons compared with the non-evolutionary exon in SZ-patients (p = 0.032, Fisher test).SMARCA2 exon sequencing and whole exome sequencing from patients harboring SNP rs2296212 common variant are under progress. Altogether, these results are expected to give new insights into the genetic architecture of SZ.
