Teacher effectiveness is the capacity of teachers to perform their duties optimally and achieve desired educational goals and standards. The purpose of this study was to establish the factors influencing teacher effectiveness and quality education in public and private secondary schools in the north rift region. To establish factors that influence the effectiveness of teachers, the study employed descriptive research design, which entailed the collection of data using questionnaires observations and interviews. The target populations for the study were teachers and head teachers in selected public and private secondary schools. Stratified sampling method was used in the selection of permanent and temporary teachers, whereas purposive sampling method was used in the selection of head teachers. The study sampled 22 temporary teachers from the private schools and 100 teachers from public schools, where 13 were temporary teachers and 87 were permanent teachers.  Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that a myriad of parameters gravitate around the teacher effectiveness concept and the earlier these parameters are isolated and teased out the better for the education fraternity. The study therefore recommends that parameters such administration, teachers, students, and classroom be leveraged to improve teacher effectiveness in both public and private secondary schools.

This study examined supervisory strategies as correlates of quality education among secondary schools in Ibadan southwest local government area of Oyo State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select thirty schools (public and private) and three hundred respondents consisting of 200 teachers from public schools, 80 teachers from private schools and 20 supervisors from Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test the four hypotheses(P < 0.05)  Multiple Regression was used to determine the contribution of independent variables (Supervisory strategies) both jointly and individually to dependent variable (quality education). Results revealed that two of the supervisory strategies (companionable and synergistic) have positive and significant correlation  on quality education (r =0.853) and (r = 0.783) while authoritarian strategy had negative  correlation, laissez faire had no significant relationship on quality education (r = -0.522 and r = -0.200)respectively. The joint contribution of the four supervisory strategies to the prediction of quality  education in secondary schools was also significant (F (4,295) = 261.225).The paper concludes  with some recommendations to the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the Government. Key words and Phrase: Supervisory Roles, Quality Education, Supervisory Strategies.

Context:  Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among young athletes. According to the American Heart Association, an automated external defibrillator (AED) should be available within a 1- to 1.5-minute brisk walk from the patient for the highest chance of survival. Secondary school personnel have reported a lack of understanding about the proper number and placement of AEDs for optimal patient care. Objective:  To determine whether fixed AEDs were located within a 1- to 1.5-minute timeframe from any location on secondary school property (ie, radius of care). Design:  Cross-sectional study. Setting:  Public and private secondary schools in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Patients or Other Participants:  Thirty schools (24 public, 6 private) volunteered. Main Outcome Measure(s):  Global positioning system coordinates were used to survey the entire school properties and determine AED locations. From each AED location, the radius of care was calculated for 3 retrieval speeds: walking, jogging, and driving a utility vehicle. Data were analyzed to expose any property area that fell outside the radius of care. Results:  Public schools (37.1% ± 11.0%) possessed more property outside the radius of care than did private schools (23.8% ± 8.0%; F1,28 = 8.35, P = .01). After accounting for retrieval speed, we still observed differences between school types when personnel would need to walk or jog to retrieve an AED (F1.48,41.35 = 4.99, P = .02). The percentages of school property outside the radius of care for public and private schools were 72.6% and 56.3%, respectively, when walking and 34.4% and 12.2%, respectively, when jogging. Only 4.2% of the public and none of the private schools had property outside the radius of care when driving a utility vehicle. Conclusion:  Schools should strategically place AEDs to decrease the percentage of property area outside the radius of care. In some cases, placement in a centralized location that is publicly accessible may be more important than the overall number of AEDs on site.

This study investigated the level of participation in Early Childhood Education (ECE) by public and private schools in North-central, Nigeria. The objectives of this study were to determine: (i) the level of participation by public schools in ECE; (ii) the level of participation by private schools in ECE (iv) whether there is difference in the level of participation by public and private in ECE schools in Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was employed for the study. The target population comprised 4,378 ECE school head teachers in North-central, Nigeria. Random and proportional sampling techniques were used to select a sample of 1,531 ECE school head teachers.  A validated instrument entitled “Public and Private Schools Participation Questionnaire” (PPSPQ) with 0.72 and index was used to collect data. Mean and rank-ordering were used to answer research questions. Independent t-test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 significance level. Findings of this study revealed that public schools had medium level participation (teacher quality mean = 45.1, supervision mean = 34.5, curriculum implementation mean = 44. 5 and provision of facilities mean = 24.2). It was also found that private schools had high level of participation (teacher quality mean = 42.2, supervision mean = 65.6, curriculum implementation mean = 54.7, and provision of facilities = 56.4). It was recommended that the government should participate fully in the education of pre-schoolers and upgrade the current low level of ECE facilities in public schools. Frequent visitation of public and private schools by quality assurance officers of ministries of education should be carried out to improve the quality of ECE provision in schools.

In rural areas, public schools are usually in great demand because of the relatively affordable costs of education. But in fact, many parents choose private schools to get more comfortable learning facilities from both the school and the teachers. The elements of education are the determinants of the success of the process of improving the quality of education in achieving educational goals in educational units. This study aims to detect the division of clusters related to the number of public and private high school level schools in each province in Indonesia by applying the Bernoulli probability model. Based on the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the distribution of clusters using the Bernoulli probability model is that the number of senior high school public schools in Indonesia has 5 clusters and many are scattered in the central and eastern parts of Indonesia. Meanwhile, the number of high school private schools in Indonesia has 6 clusters and many are scattered in parts of the island of Java. Provinces that are included in the cluster area mean that they have similar characteristics so that they are grouped into the same group.
