Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium that causes pyogenic infectious disease, such as boils, pimples, endocarditis and sepsis. Resistance of S. aureus is continued growth that made it becomes a very serious problem that need to be solved by looking for another effective alternative for this infection. Several of marine life can be used as a source of antibacterial medication, antiviral, and antifungal. One alternative of antibacterial that comes from water resources is brown seaweed (Sargassum sp.). Purposes: This study aimed to find out the inhibitory fraction of n-hexane and ethyl acetate of Sargassum sp. against the growth of S. aureus Methods: This study applied quasi experimental method which used posttest-only control design. Samples used in the form of brown seaweed treatment of fraction n-hexane and Ethyl acetate derived from Desa Bungin Permai Kecamatan Tinanggea Kabupaten Konawe Selatan. The fraction inhibition test was conducted by diffusion agar method used variant concentration (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) with three repetitions. Erythromycin as control (+) and DMSO 10% as control (-).Result: The study result showed that the n-hexane and Ethyl acetate fraction of Sargassum sp. extract was able in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus that seen with the clear zone around the paper disc. Based on this result, the minimum inhibitory fraction of n-hexane and ethyl acetate obtained in this study was at the concentration of 20%. The diameter average of inhibition zone in both fractions in the concentration 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% were 9.3 mm, 12.3 mm, 25.6 mm, 27 mm, 27.7 mm for n-hexane fraction, mean while the diameter average of inhibition zone in the ethyl acetate fraction was 4.6 mm, 16 mm, 19.3mm, 27.6mm, 29.6 mm. ethyl acetate fraction at a concentration of 40%, 80%,100% inhibitory zone diameter higher than the fraction of n-hexane while at a concentration of 20% and 60% inhibitory zone diameter higner than the fraction of ethyl acetate. Conclusion: Based on the result of the study, it was concluded that the fraction of n-hexane and ethyl acetate of Sargassum sp. has an inhibitory effect against the growth of S. aureus. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of n-hexane and ethyl acetate fraction was at the concentration of 20%. This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol extract of tenggulun leaves (Protium javanicum Burm. F.) in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus bacteria and determine the minimum inhibitory concentration of the most active extracts and identify its active compounds. A total of 1000 g of tenggulun leaf powder was macerated with methanol and 91.78 g of crude methanol extract was obtained which was further partitioned into n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol extracts. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using the diffusion well method and the result showed that the ethyl acetate extract at a concentration of 20% was strongly able to inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria with inhibition zones of 20.08 mm, followed by n-butanol 16.66 mm, and n-hexane 13.33 mm. The minimum concentration of ethyl acetate extract was 0.2% in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus with inhibition zone diameter of 6.20 mm. Separation of the active ethyl acetate extract was conducted by silica gel column chromatography with mobile phase of n-hexane: ethyl acetate (7.5: 2.5) gave 6 combined fractions. Fractions B, G, H and I showed antibacterial activity at concentrations of 50% with a diameter of inhibition zone of 5.62 mm, 6.87 mm, 8.50 mm, and 6.75 mm respectively. The results of mass spectra analysis from the chromatogram peaks of LC-MS / MS suggested that the G and I fractions were tentatively identified as crotarin, benzophenone-2, and medroxyprogesterone acetate which may contributed to the antibacterial activity by acting synergisticly.    Keywords: antibacterial, tenggulun, Staphylococcus aureus, LC-MS/MS.

Calligonum polygonoides is locally called as Phog which belongs to the Polygonaceae family. It is traditionally used as an antifungal. The methanolic extract, hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract and aqueous extract were screened against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger in seven concentrations, that is, 1.8, 2.9, 6.5, 12.6, 25, 50 and 75 µg/mL/disc. Calligonum polygonoides showed significant activity against Candida albicans as the observed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is 6.5 µg/mL for methanolic extract, 9.8 µg/mL for ethyl acetate extract, whereas aqueous and hexane extracts showed no activity. Calligonum polygonoides did not show any significant activity against Aspergillus niger.

Ganoderma boninense is the major causal pathogens of Basal Stem Rot (BSR) of oil palm. Potential antagonists were isolated from soil samples and dual culture assays were carried out. Four types of bacteria isolates showed PIRG greater than 50% against G. boninense and the most potential bacteria was B6 (PIRG = 75.76%) and identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The interaction between P. aeruginosa with G. boninense was observed under Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Secondary metabolites of P. aeruginosa, were extracted using hexane, ethyl acetate and acetone. Ethyl acetate extract showed the highest inhibition towards G. boninense with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 0.04 mg/ml. Identification of compounds from the extract was further carried out using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). The most potential antimicrobial compound which may contribute to the biocontrol activity detected in the crude extract was 3-demethylubiquinone-9. P. aeruginosa and 3-demethylubiquinone-9 may potential to be further study for control of G. boninense.
