This paper deals with several different aspects of the concept of benchmarking in order to give the audience a basic understanding of what benchmarking is, how it is done, and what it can give in terms of improvement results. The main issues covered are definitions of benchmarking and explanations of the different types of benchmarking that exist and what implications these have, both in terms of improvement potential, difficulties, and suitability. Furthermore, ethical and legal aspects linked to benchmarking and the benchmarking wheel, a benchmarking process model explaining the phases and steps of the benchmarking study. A relatively large portion of the paper will be devoted to explaining how to carry out a benchmarking study and various pitfalls that might be encountered. The remainder of the paper will discuss the improvement results that companies that have used benchmarking actually have achieved. These range from phenomenal successes to downright failures, and the paper will explore conclusions derived from research on the topic.

The issue of information management is crucial for any academic institution. Convenient access to requested content is creating a competitive advantage for different types of decisions. Information management process in Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) often create problems because there is no systematic way of storage management. IPG lecturers stored their teaching materials in different kind of methods. This situation cause in a loss of resources, difficult to retrieve and also cannot be identified when it's needed. Dealing with large volumes of resources it is essential to use technological solutions that enable flexible storage, retrieval, processing and interpreting information. To solve the problems, this article introduced a framework that use single platform and named as Information Sharing for Learning (IS4L) for managing teaching and learning resources in IPG. The resources will be stored and can be accessed at any time. The framework also applied the technique of gamification to motivate and encourage users to use the application and consequently will increase the volume of resources stored. The developed application based on the proposed framework could help to motivate and engage peoples to share their resources and enhance quality of services in IPG. Finally it could assist to improve the performance and effectiveness of services to achieve users’ satisfaction.

Agriculture is a wider sector where 54% people are engaged and one-third GDP contributed to the nation. Due to diverse climatic regions, farmers grow different types of agricultural commodities and presence of different pests reduces their production and thus need to apply pesticides. Pesticide Registration and Management Division under the Department of Agriculture is a legal authority to register as well as restrict or ban certain pesticides used in the agricultural sector in Nepal. The paper also emphasizes how Nepal has doing pesticide reduction for the pest management in agriculture considering the food safety, animal and human health and environment protection. And it also focuses on the legal aspects on pesticide management and status of registered, restricted and banned pesticides in the context of neighboring countries and addresses to fulfill the obligations of the international convention related to pesticides and industrial chemicals.

ABSTRACTThe detection of molecular biomarkers plays a key role in the clinic, aiding in diagnostics and prognostics, and in the research laboratory, contributing to our basic understanding of diseases. The ability to detect multiple and diverse molecular biomarkers within a single accessible assay would have great utility, providing a more comprehensive picture for clinical evaluation and research, but is a challenge with standard methods. One promising approach is the use of dynamic DNA nanostructures that can respond to molecular biomarkers, which have recently been used in a variety of biosensing strategies. In this work, we report the use of programmable DNA nanoswitches for the multiplexed detection of up to 6 biomarkers within a single pot through the use of a barcoded gel-based readout. We demonstrate the barcoding capability using gene fragments that correspond to 6 different diseases, with each fragment or combination of fragments producing a unique barcode signature. As a defining feature of our method, we show “mixed multiplexing” for simultaneous barcoded detection of different types of biomolecules – DNA, RNA, antibody and protein in a single assay. To demonstrate clinical potential, we show multiplexed detection of a prostate cancer biomarker panel in serum that includes two microRNA sequences and prostate specific antigen (PSA). This strategy holds promise in clinical diagnostics for profiling complex and diverse biomarker panels.

The relevance of the study of the development of competitive advantages is related to the need to ensure the competitiveness of restaurants, given the current market conditions. The purpose of the study is to investigate the ways of developing a strategy to ensure and implement the competitive advantages of restaurants. Theoretical and methodological framework of the study included general scientific methods (methods of scientific generalisation and comparison), specific methods (methods of analysis and synthesis). The study defines that indirect criteria are used to assess competitiveness, which can be divided into two main groups: consumer and economic criteria. It is analysed that for different categories of consumers and groups of goods competitiveness is provided by different types of prices: purchasing, selling, and consumer. The sources of development of competitive advantages are determined. The study also provides the competitive advantages of restaurant establishments, which have different forms of manifestation. The diagnostics of the competitive environment is carried out, which requires not only the analysis of the state of various methods of competition, but also the study of the image of the product, as well as the image of the enterprise. The main factors of competitive advantage of restaurants were considered. The study analysed the factors of competitive advantage of the organisation, which are divided into external and internal. It is determined that the factors of consumer preferences are divided into four groups: psychological, informational, sales, and economic. It is established that each group has certain measures, the consistent implementation of which, in the end, leads either to the development or maintenance of consumer preferences

Commercial banks and Bank Perkreditan Rakyat are two different types of banks whose existence in society aims to raise and channel public funds to improve people's lives. The facts show that there is a sharp competition between the two types of banks in terms of gaining public trust to become bank customer but although these two types of banks are different but still able to develop well in society. This study aims to identify the factors that become competitive advantage at Commercial Banks and Bank Perkreditan Rakyat from the customer's point of view based on customers' perceptions, expectations and interests so banks can determine competitive strategy. The approach used in this research is Lean Six Sigma approach with a sample of 60 respondents consisting of 30 customers of Commercial Banks and 30 customers of Bank Perkreditan Rakyat. Respondents will be asked to respond to research instruments based on their perceptions, expectations and interests. The results of the study there are five competitive advantages in Commercial Banks (1) promotions made, (2) reward appeal, (3) saving security, (4) cleanliness and comfort of the room, (5) friendliness, courtesy and neatness. Bank Perkreditan Rakyat obtained competitive advantage that is (1) cleanliness and comfort of the room,(2) ability and alertness of the officers, (3) friendliness, courtesy and neatness, (4) saving security, (5) familiarity  of the officer with the customer. In addition there are similarities there are interesting differences that is on the excellence of promotional activities and the attractiveness of prizes at Commercial Banks. and the familiarity of officers with customers at Bank Perkreditan Rakyat.

Abstract Automated process discovery is a technique that extracts models of executed processes from event logs. Logs typically include information about the activities performed, their timestamps and the resources that were involved in their execution. Recent approaches to process discovery put a special emphasis on (human) resources, aiming at constructing resource-aware process models that contain the inferred resource assignment constraints. Such constraints can be complex and process discovery approaches so far have missed the opportunity to represent expressive resource assignments graphically together with process models. A subsequent verification of the extracted resource-aware process models is required in order to check the proper utilisation of resources according to the resource assignments. So far, research on discovering resource-aware process models has assumed that models can be put into operation without modification and checking. Integrating resource mining and resource-aware process model verification faces the challenge that different types of resource assignment languages are used for each task. In this paper, we present an integrated solution that comprises (i) a resource mining technique that builds upon a highly expressive graphical notation for defining resource assignments; and (ii) automated model-checking support to validate the discovered resource-aware process models. All the concepts reported in this paper have been implemented and evaluated in terms of feasibility and performance.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to examine the function of bystanders as witnesses in Aristophanes. It includes an examination of the relevant passages and a presentation of the legal aspects that they exhibit. I argue that, while forensic speeches depict different types of assistance offered by the bystanders to victims of criminal action, the 'victims' on Aristophanes' comic stage, usually annoying intruders, fail to secure the assistance of those within earshot.

AbstractIn the course of everyday life, the brain must store and recall a huge variety of representations of stimuli which are presented in an ordered or sequential way. The processes by which the ordering of these various things is stored and recalled are moderately well understood. We use here a computational model of a cortex-like recurrent neural network adapted by a multitude of plasticity mechanisms. We first demonstrate the learning of a sequence. Then, we examine the influence of different types of distractors on the network dynamics during the recall of the encoded ordered information being ordered in a sequence. We are able to broadly arrive at two distinct effect-categories for distractors, arrive at a basic understanding of why this is so, and predict what distractors will fall into each category.
