The article is devoted to the issues of learning English by students of bachelor’s specialty “Tourism” and «Hotel and restaurant business». Since foreign language proficiency is one of the main competencies for a student of this specialty, the question of the methodology of its study is extremely relevant. In this article the specifics of the ‘Awesome Ukraine’ English guide-book is being researched. In English-speaking guides the specifics of the target audience should be carefully taken into consideration, since not all tourists are fluent in English as a foreign language. Therefore, for students of ‘Tourism” and “Hotel and restaurant business” specialties referring to an English-language guide-book would be of a valuable assistance in methodological and linguistic aspects. Students will not only assimilate information about a certain monument or location, but will also adopt the proper way to present facts, assimilate necessary language patterns, and learn to apply them in practice. The publication makes an editorial, linguistic and methodological analysis of the ‘AWESOME UKRAINE’ series. These seven publications tell foreigners about Ukraine, it’s most attractive and interesting locations, present one of the most respected IT centers. All of that can be used during lectures and practical classes for various English-language disciplines as didactic material. Text content in all editions is laconic; the material is described in simple and accessible English. One article about a certain monument or location occupies one-page spread, which is convenient for perception. Each topic material is illustrated with a thematic photo. The series is competently created, has a thoroughly thought-out concept for the embodiment of the text and illustrative material. The article demonstrates that the capabilities of a modern guide-book are able to perform not only informative but also a communicative function of a mediator in intercultural communication. Thanks to this fact, it becomes possible to effectively use this potential in the formation of basic competences and skills to productively implement professional activities for future professionals in tourism and hospitality industry.

Nowadays political reality is characterized by instability, the tendency of traditional state structures to collapse and the emergence of new interstate associations. The analysis of current political events taking place in them belongs to the professional activities of political scientists. As it is impossible to find a modern country which could develop beyond the formation of world civilization, there is no doubt that political scientists of different nationalities should communicate in the global English language. It follows from the above that it is necessary to train qualified specialists in this field of knowledge who could fulfil their professional duties by means of English. However, the existing methods of teaching English-language professional speech to the future political scientists do not provide students with the mentioned skills. In this regard, the purpose of the suggested article is to work out theoretical bases for training future political scientists in profession-oriented activity in English. The development of the above-mentioned skills is possible on the basis of the procedural integration of the English language and political science, where the links of these two different subjects are coordinated. A specific feature of the procedural integration is the manifestation of educational and professional foreign language skills alongside with foreign language professional skills in the profession-centred (field-centred) process. Thus, it is necessary to develop two integrated competences: the professional and foreign language speaking ones. For their development, the professional subject of the course of political science and the corresponding vocabulary necessary for the expression of its content have been determined. Integrated training of future political scientists in analysing current events in English includes the stages as follows: familiarization, language-oriented, training in speaking, and profession-centred. The quick development of the tourism and hospitality industry can straightly influence the English language which is the most widely used and spoken language in international tourism in the twenty-first century. English for tourism has a major role in the delivery of quality service. Employees who work in the tourism and hospitality industry are entirely and highly aware of its importance and they need to have a good command of English in their workplace. English for tourism and hospitality has been categorized under English for the specific purpose (ESP). It is an important and dynamic area of specialization within the field of English language teaching and learning. The necessity of teaching English for professional purposes and specifically in the area of tourism is irrefutable. Language proficiency is very important and essential in all professional fields specifically in the tourism and hospitality industry due to its specific nature and concepts. Thus, it is required that the educators understand the practical applications of this approach. This paper aims to provide an overview of the purpose of teaching ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and ETP (English for Tourism Purposes) to the learners and users. In addition, characteristic features of ESP and ETP concerning course development, curriculum planning, learning style, material development, English efficiency, types of activities and evaluation are outlined. Determining the ESP concepts and elements provides specific English instruction that could help the learners be well-prepared for meeting their workplace requirements.

Purpose of the present paper is to consider and determine the relevance of the discipline "Foreign language" as a means of forming the professional competence of future engineers, graduate students of engineering directions, teachers of engineering disciplines and other stakeholders; to reveal the patterns of change and addition to the status of a foreign language as a marker of "education" the status of a means for applying professional literacy. Methods . The methods of the article are a descriptive method, a method of synchronous analysis and description of the results of development and experimental piloting of the course “Foreign language for engineers. Academic writing", which make it possible to determine the characteristics of perception, communicative status, situational relevance of the course in relation to the professional sphere of use. Results . This course is aimed at building professional competencies by means of the English language, necessary for various types of professional activities within the framework of the existing qualifications. Conclusion . The article considers the issue of the need to develop a course, which is especially relevant at the modern historical stage, when there takes place the integration of world experience in the process of professional and cultural communication at the global international level.

The current level of development of the mining industry requires the use of innovations in the practice of higher mining education based on the achievements of psychology and pedagogy which allow to achieve optimal results in training mining engineers. Foreign language proficiency is an important component of the professional competence of any specialist. To study the communicative abilities of students, it is necessary to search for new learning technologies in the activation of speech activity. The use of innovative technologies in the process of learning to control foreign language reading is a necessary condition for the intellectual and creative development of students – their innovative competence, which is aimed at the formation of professional knowledge and skills for the most effective achievement of innovative goals of their professional activities. The authors share practical and theoretical experience as well as innovative ideas for the construction and successful application of faceted tests that can help overcome the difficulties taking place in decoding text information.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) has become the standard used to describe and evaluate students’ command of a second or foreign language. It is an internationally acknowledged standard language proficiency framework which many countries have adopted such as China, Thailand, Japan and Taiwan. Malaysia Ministry of Education is aware and realise the need for the current English language curriculum to be validated as to reach the international standard as prescribed by the CEFR. The implementation of CEFR has begun at primary and secondary level since 2017 and now higher education institutions are urged to align their English Language Curriculum to CEFR as part of preparation in receiving students who have been taught using CEFR-aligned curriculum at schools by year 2022. This critical reflection article elucidates the meticulous processes that we have embarked on in re-aligning our English Language Curriculum to the standard and requirements of CEFR. The paper concludes with a remark that the alignment of the English curriculum at the university needs full support from the management in ensuring that all the stakeholders are fully prepared, informed and familiar with the framework.

Current English-as-a-second and foreign-language (ESL/EFL) research has encouraged to treat each communicative macroskill separately due to space constraint, but the interrelationship among these skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) is not paid due attention. This study attempts to examine first the existing relationship among the four dominant skills, second the potential impact of reading background on the overall language proficiency, and finally the relationship between listening and overall language proficiency as listening is considered an overlooked/passive skill in the pedagogy of the second/foreign language classroom. However, the literature in language learning has revealed that listening skill has salient importance in both first and second language learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of each of four skills in EFL learning and their existing interrelationships in an EFL setting. The outcome of 701 Iranian applicants undertaking International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Tehran demonstrates that all communicative macroskills have varied correlations from moderate (reading and writing) to high (listening and reading). The findings also show that the applicants’ reading history assisted them in better performing at high stakes tests, and what is more, listening skill was strongly correlated with the overall language proficiency.

It can be a challenge for a university teacher to arrange the teaching of written tasks so that weak foreign language students with differing disciplinary backgrounds can develop their written communication skills. The difficulty is to avoid the focus from becoming just language proficiency. In one course at a technical university in Sweden, three written summaries are scaffolded to address such a challenge. The purpose of this teaching practice paper is to show how employing a specific strategy of repetition facilitates the writing skill development in low-level English language multidisciplinary students. The repeated features are the genre of the task, the writing process used and the occurrences of teacher response. They are organised along a specific learning path so as to encourage the students to build on the knowledge gained in each iteration, between tasks and potentially beyond the course. The paper describes the journey the students take writing the three summaries, working on fulfilling criteria concerned with aspects such as content organisation, coherence and cohesion, and limited grammar errors. A brief analysis of excerpts from one case student’s first and third summaries is included. It is suggested that while the scaffolding can remain the same, the material could be replaced to suit other skills and language level needs.

Anxiety is a topic mostly investigated in the field of foreign language education. Unfortunately, the main focus of the studies on the aforementioned topic has primarily been provided in relation to anxiety suffered by students not teachers. Anxiety in speaking English while teaching has been proven to be a separate obstacle to the success of the language teaching and learning. This still happens to teachers who even have years of teaching experience. This study aims to investigate the English language teaching anxiety as experienced by the pre-service teacher at the department. The FLTA questionnaire consisting of 27 out of 45 items was adopted to collect data. Since this study was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, the questionnaire was distributed to the participants via email. The analysis was then made by implementing the qualitative descriptive approach and simple quantification to support the description. The results show that there were five factors of anxiety occur during the program. They were teaching inexperience, self-perception of language proficiency, fear of negative evaluation, lack of student�s interest, and difficulty with time management. These findings are expected to become a reference for the efforts of developing an internship preparation program.

Today experts with a high level of proficiency in a foreign language are considered in demand in the labour market. The level of foreign language proficiency is confirmed by a high test result of international exams in a foreign language. The essay is a mandatory part of international English language exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, and Cambridge Advanced English. We examined the requirements and assessment criteria for the essay writing exam task. The task assesses the level of speech skills formation necessary to create your own pieces of writing in a foreign language. As part of the research, we developed a technology for teaching writing based on a product-oriented approach. According to the technology we have identified the following stages of text production: task orientation, text planning, text writing, and text self-editing. We have also proposed a set of exercises aimed at developing following skills: task understanding, formulating the author’s point of view and its proving with relevant examples, planning a cohesive and coherent text, text division into paragraphs, highlighting of the paragraph’s main idea, development of the idea in the text, expressing ideas in the text logically in accordance with the rhetorical structure of English essay, usage of lexical cohesive means, text self-editing. This technology was tested during experimental training; its results prove the effectiveness of the proposed technology for teaching essay writing according to international English language exams requirements.

The article is devoted to the development and testing of the method of using authentic films for the formation of English-speaking lexical competence of Vietnamese students. The results of the work have shown their effectiveness in the course of scientific and industrial practice in teaching students in the department of phonetics and vocabulary of the English language. Their significance (scientific contribution) and conclusions were noted during the defense of the master's thesis by the members of the State Examination Commission, in Moscow State Pedagogical University on the 11th of February. The field of application of the results is quite extensive: the results of the research can be useful both for teachers of a foreign language, and for students studying in the field - Pedagogical education. The limitations and directions of future research will be related to the study of "Germanic languages" and their application in pedagogical practice using a different methodological base and didactic approaches. In the absence of a language learning environment, ways of creating it are created by working on authentic works of art-films shot abroad. The subject of the study is the technology of forming English-speaking lexical competence among Vietnamese students in Russia on the basis of foreign experience. The aim of the article is to develop a methodology for the formation of English-speaking lexical competence among Vietnamese students. Research hypothesis: the technology of forming English-speaking lexical competence among Vietnamese students will be more effective if: -the theoretical basis for the formation of foreign vocabulary lexical competence among students of the teacher training Universities with the use of an authentic film in the studied language was singled out, and their main components were singled out; - as a methodological reference point, a communicative-cognitive approach to the formation of lexical English-speaking competence was chosen in combination with such approaches as intercultural, personal-activity and competence; -developed a system of exercises and tasks to learn foreign language lexical material using an authentic film.
