Currently, the problem of typing architectural decor of facades of buildings in Lviv from 1890’s (late historicism) has not been studied. Therefore, the task is to explore all architectural decor elements of each architectural piece, which are of indisputable value for Lviv and in need of preservation and restoration. A set of villas and a number of profitable and public buildings erected at the time of late historicism in Lviv were identified and taken as a basis based on comparative and bibliographic analysis. In addition, photographic evidence and visual inspection of these pieces were completed and architectural decor elements were studied. A total of 95 architectural pieces were analyzed on the basis of field surveys: 28 villas, 2 public buildings. and 13 residential buildings. As a result of the above, types of architectural decor elements, such as: constructive-decorative, art-decorative, decorative-plastic, were established. Subsequent studies have led to a smaller division into subtypes. Thus, entrance portals, windows, balconies (fences, brackets), cornices, and attics were included in the constructive-decorative elements, paintings and majolica were included in the artistic-decorative elements, and order, rustic, stucco works, round sculptures were included in the decorative-plastic category. This publication involved analysis of constructive-decorative architectural decor elements. Constructive-decorative architectural decor elements were analyzed in view of their composition and style peculiarities. In particular, composition features of architectural decor elements were analyzed for form and tectonic location, while types and motifs applied to style specifics.

The article discusses innovations that enter into dialogue with established traditions in different ways. It happens that innovations are reflected in all traditions, causing a general renewal of the village architecture. Sometimes innovations change individual elements of development, for example, due to new comfortable residential buildings, instead of the old fund. The prevalence of innovations over traditions can be called a dialogue of image and idea — shaping in the architecture and typology of public buildings. Using the opportunities of scientific and technological progress in the organization of mobile services complements the traditional forms of service provision. The restoration of the lost tradition of creating structures for spiritual purposes significantly increases the artistic and moral expressiveness of the village. In general, the dialogue of innovations and traditions creates new conditions for life and increases the artistic expressiveness of the village.

The paper identified the main aspects of the natural lighting of interior spaces of residential and public buildings, affecting the light forms of education, the quality of light, visual comfort, visual discomfort, uneven illumination, and so on. The quality of architecture as a visual art is mainly evaluated because of visual impressionsthat are possible only in the presence of light. The modern period of development of society is characterized by objective civilized processes of global urbanization, as a result of which architecture itself becomes a cause of a disturbance in the state of balance of the environment for human life and the cause of the ecological crisis. It is known that under the influence of such anthropogenic factors as a decrease in the transparency of the atmosphere due to the growth of cities and industry, insolation resources are changing in residential areas. In the framework of the concept of an urban-ecological approach in the formation of the human environment, the problems of creating a comfortable bioclimatic architecture or ecological buildings that allow the multilateral use of the energy of the Sun are highlighted.Among the factors determining the quality of the environment, an important place is occupied by the natural light environment, which largely depends on the nature of the light climate. Sunlight has a comprehensive impact on all major categories of architecture, including light comfort, durability, expressiveness, and economy. The appropriate level and quality of lighting in rooms and urban areas is an important prerequisite for creating light comfortable living conditions for a person, contributes to his creative activity, increase labor productivity and improve leisure conditions. The parameters of the light environment are one of the main elements that form the microclimate of the premises. In many developed countries, in connection with the expansion of megacities, the issue of not only functional, but also visual aesthetic comfort of the environment is becoming relevant. Creating a light environment that meets the practical, psychological andaesthetic requirements of the people who live in it is one of the most important tasks of an architect. Knowledge of the basic compositional properties of lighting, the ways of its rational use in architecture, and the possession of methodological skillsin architectural design contribute to the successful solution of this problem. Lighting conditions determine the correct perception of the compositional rhythm, the proportions and depth of the premises, plastics and color finishes of the surface. The concept of a light environment includes the integral coordination of the components of natural and artificial lighting, considered in unity and interaction. The progressive reception of integrated (combined) lighting is dictated by social need and is reflected in improving the quality of lighting and in saving resources for the design and construction of buildings and structures.Modern advances in the field of fundamental and natural sciences allow us to improve the methods and means of research and forecasting in the knowledge of the complex interaction of man and the environment. The main task is to optimize the light environment in architecture with the rational use of energy and natural resources. The analysis of scientific works and design practice of architectural firms of Ukraine allowed us to identify a number of unresolved issues (in the aspect of accounting and solving the problem of the comfort of the lighting environment in architecture): 1) black-and-white shaping as a specific tool for architectural composition to achieve plastic expressiveness and as a tool for the architect’s creativity; 2) in the process of developing the facades of buildings for various purposes, the relation to the functional and formative function of light is traced; 3) theeffect of sunlight on interior spaces; 4) the effect of sunlight on residents in high-rise residential buildings. The problem of creating a comfortable lighting environment in European architecture has not been comprehensively considered to date, which served as the basis for analysis and discussion in this work. The comfort of the light environment is lighting, it is the light formation of the interior spaces of architectural objects. The comfort of the lighting environment can satisfy people in the interior according to many requirements, divided into qualitative and quantitative categories.Quantitative categories are determined by the level of necessary illumination. Qualitative categories are determined by the spectral composition of light and its distribution in space.

Moisture and mould damage are common in Finnish public buildings. Due to the possible health hazards of such damage, more efficient detection methods and protocols are needed to examine it. The aim of this study is to examine the reliability of visual inspection in the detection of moisture and mould damage. The study points out that the reliability of all the research material is 70%. The highest reliability values concentrate on those structures where the repair need is highest. However, the range of reliability values is wide: from 0% to 100% depending on the age of building or structure. Reliability is highest in the most simplified structures and lowest in structures consisting of multiple layers of different building materials.

AbstractThe aim of the research is to develop a model to support renovation and modernization decisions in the process of maintaining public buildings. The scope of the research includes, first of all, the development of a method of building assessment on the basis of many criteria, applied also in the evaluation of residential buildings, but also specific ones, related to public utility facilities, i.e.: environmental compatibility of buildings, adaptation to the elderly and disabled, fire safety. On the basis of this assessment, a set of proposed renovation and modernisation measures will be determined. In the next stage, knowledge will be acquired from experts (including property managers), who will indicate the ranges of criteria values for the adopted assessments of building utility value. This knowledge will be used to build a rules base of fuzzy inference system for assessing building utility value. The next stage of research will be conducting computer simulations with the use of a mathematical model assessing the impact of the above mentioned decisions on the increase in the building utility value and the renovation cost and modernization activities. All calculations will be carried out in the Matlab Simulink environment with the use of optimization and fuzzy methods. Knowledge of the relationship between decisions on the scope of renovation and modernization solutions and the quality measures of the maintenance process is the basis for decisions in the area of buildings maintenance. The results of these studies can contribute to improving the quality of maintenance of public buildings.

The article outlines issues which arise when conducting research on wheelchair (reconstructed) ramps of existing buildings, technical re-equipment of building porches and buildings or their construction projects for compliance with building standards and regulations. As a method of research we have chosen visual inspection of construction and planning solutions, namely measuring of geometric parameters of over 30 ramps in different districts in the city of Kharkiv has been conducted. Requirements of current building regulations are analyzed, their applicability to public and residential buildings for access by persons with reduced mobility is established. Main types of violations of building standards and regulations while construction of ramps, which create significant obstacles for people with limited mobility to access residential and public buildings, have been identified and systematized. Recommendations are provided regarding the possibility of making necessary changes in the design of ramps and adapted porches of residential and public buildings in order to prevent injury to persons with reduced mobility.
