These research deals with the evaluation of disposable mask waste generated during the pandemic. The objective was to determine the amount of disposable mask waste generated in Barranca. It is based on the descriptive method for which, the sample of 50 houses determined by the Kunitoshi method was established and a questionnaire was applied on what attitude it takes when recycling the mask waste, the segregation of the waste was also made to determine its characteristics, quantification per month, per capita and percentage of mask waste per month. It was concluded that the highest percentage of mask residues was in September with 1.44% (1568.95 Kg / 50 houses / month), that is to say that out of 100 Kg of residues, 1.44 kg are of mask; therefore, the proper use and recycling of this material must be taken into account in order to reduce environmental pollution.

The constructed wetland is a low-cost technology to control environmental pollution. The system is especially suitable for small settlements. An innovative constructed wetland technology is described in this paper. A pilot plant was used to assess the performance of the system. The experimental system consists of two serial connected tanks that settled up with fillers and Cyperus as treatment media. Wastewater is recycled periodically upward and downward between the two tanks. The treatment performance was monitored in different loading conditions in a one-year period. The average COD removal efficiency of 90% was observed at 122 g COD/m2.day average loading conditions. Other average removal values in the same conditions are as follows: suspended solid 95%, TKN 77%, total nitrogen 61%, PO4-P 39%. The land requirement for this system will be 0.82 m2 per capita when applying as full-scale system.

With the development of economy, environmental problems gradually outstanding in China. This article adopts the method of empirical study, have collected the data of China's industrial added value, per capita GDP and emissions of the three major pollutants from 2004 to 2015. The VAR model was established on the basis of the logarithm values of the three factors mentioned above, so as to conduct impulse- response analysis to discuss the relationship between industrialization level, economic development and environmental pollution. The conclusion is as follows: (1) At present, the increase of China's industrial added value can promote the decline of China's environmental pollution emissions to a certain extent; (2) China is now at the left of the turning point of the Environmental Kuznets Curve, and the increase of per capita GDP will aggravate environmental pollution.

Basing on the theories of Environmental Kuznets Curve,this paper analyzes the relationship between industrial economic growth and waste gas,waste water and solid wastes with the economic and environmental statistics of Chongqing Municipality from 1995 to 2009. The study shows that there is a inverted N-type of environmental Kuznets curve of the industrial waste water with the rising of industrial per capita value, but it lies in the left side of the EKC. There exists a extremely notable relationship between the industrial per capita value and produced volume of industrial solid wastes,but the curve has not come up to the turning point. In order to achieve the harmonious development between industrial economic growth and environmental pollution in Chongqing,we should establish the long-effect mechanism for environmental protection.

Increased economic activity accompanied with environmental pollution. The objective of the study was to analyze the effect of per capita GDP on CO2 emissions and to prove the hypothesis of the Kuznets environment curve. Method for analyzing data by using multiple linear regression with quadratic equation. The results show that GDP per capita has a positive and significant influence on CO2 emissions, as well as the square GDP per capita has a negative and significant influence on CO2 emissions, so the Kuznets Environment Curve's hypothesis can be proven.

The purposes of this study is to investigate the relationship between per capita CO2 emissions, per capita energy consumption, per capita real GDP, the squares of per capita real GDP, trade openness and Kyoto dummies in selected 20 EU countries over the periods from 1991 to 2013 in order to analyze the connection between environmental pollution and Kyoto Protocol using Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) framework. According to EKC hypothesis, there is an inverted-U shape relation between environmental pollution and economic growth. Generally, the relationship between environmental pollution, per capita GDP and energy consumption has been analyzed for testing EKC hypothesis. In this study, it is used dummy variable to analyze the effects of Kyoto protocol on environmental degradation in the context of EKC hypothesis model. The dummy variable indicates Kyoto Protocol agreement year 2005. The results show that there is long run cointegration relationship between CO2, energy consumption, GDP growth, and the squares of GDP growth, trade openness and Kyoto dummy variable. Energy consumption and GDP growth increase the level of CO2 emissions. On the contrary, Kyoto dummy variable de­creases CO2 emissions in EU countries. In addition, the results reveal that the squares of per capita real GDP and trade openness rate are statistically insignificant. As a result of analysis, the inverted-U shape EKC hypothesis is invalid in these EU countries over the periods from 1991 to 2013.

The research analyses the determinants of FDI inflow in Asia for the period 1993-2013 and is based on the fixed effect model. The macroeconomic factors included are lending rate, GDP per capita, trade openness, debt, exchange rate, money supply and unemployment rate. The country specific factors included are adult literacy rate, gross fixed capital formation, domestic credit provided by the financial sector, environmental pollution and natural resources rents. The study applies panel unit root tests, panel cointegration analysis and panel regression analysis based on the fixed effect model to ascertain the significance of macroeconomic and country specific factors on FDI inflow in Asia. The study found that lending rate, trade openness and money supply have a positive significance to FDI per capita whereas debt, unemployment rate and environmental pollution have a negative significance to FDI per capita.

PurposeThis study investigates the effect of shadow economy on environmental pollution and the role of institutional quality in moderating the impact in African countries between 1991 and 2015.Design/methodology/approachThe study employs three pollutant variables namely: carbon dioxide emissions per capita, methane emission and nitrous oxide emission as robustness check. Also, battery of methodologies; ordinary least squares, fixed effects and system generalised method of moments are used to drive out the conclusions of this study.FindingsThe findings reveal that shadow economy and institutional quality contribute significantly to environmental pollution in Africa. Further, the interactive effect of shadow economy and institutional quality worsens environmental quality in the region. This reveals that weak institutional quality recorded in the region increases the level of shadow economy, thereby intensifying environmental pollution.Practical implicationsThe study concludes that weak institutional framework in the region reinforces shadow economy and environmental pollution. Hence, findings from this study can help policymakers in the region to better understand the role of institutional quality in reducing shadow economy and environmental pollution.Originality/valueThis study enriches one’s understanding on the role of institutional quality in the relationship between environmental quality and shadow economy in African context. It investigates the direct and indirect impact of institutions and shadow economy on environmental quality. The study also uses three different robust variables to measure environmental pollution (carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per capita, methane emission and nitrous oxide emission) for sensitivity analysis.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship among environmental pollution, economic growth and energy consumption per capita in the case of Pakistan. The per capital carbon dioxide (CO2) emission is used as the environmental indicator, the commercial energy use per capita as the energy consumption indicator, and the per capita gross domestic product (GDP) as the economic indicator.Design/methodology/approachThe investigation is made on the basis of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC), using time series data from 1971 to 2006, by applying different econometric tools like ADF Unit Root Johansen Co‐integration VECM and Granger causality tests.FindingsThe Granger causality test shows that there is a long term relationship between these three indicators, with bidirectional causality between per capita CO2 emission and per capita energy consumption. A monotonically increasing curve between GDP and CO2 emission has been found for the sample period, rejecting the EKC relationship, implying that as per capita GDP increases a linear increase will be observed in per capita CO2 emission.Research limitations/implicationsFuture research should replace the economic growth variable, i.e. GDP by industrial growth variable because industrial sector is major contributor of pollution by emitting CO2.Practical implicationsThe empirical findings will help the policy makers of Pakistan in understanding the severity of the CO2 emissions issue and in developing new standards and monitoring networks for reducing CO2 emissions.Originality/valueEnergy consumption is the major cause of environmental pollution in Pakistan but no substantial work has been done in this regard with reference to Pakistan.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic relationship that exists between energy consumption, environmental pollution and per capita economic growth in Tanzania. The energy consumption is represented by electricity usage in kilowatt hours (kWh) per capita, while environmental pollution is represented by carbon emission per metric tons and economic growth by gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. Design/methodology/approach This investigation is made based on the Environmental Kuznets Curve using time series annual data from 1975 to 2013 by applying the more robust causality technique of Toda and Yamamoto non-Causality test (1995), Impulse response and Variance Decomposition, Augumented and Dickey–Fueller test and Philips and Perron Test of unit root tests. Findings Economic growth rate (LGDP) and energy consumption per capita (LENGY), both being unidirectional, cause environmental pollution through carbon emission (LCO2) in Tanzania. Interestingly, after using impulse response, a significant and positive economic growth (GDP per capita) was found due to shocks from electricity per capita (energy consumption) and carbon emission (LCO2) with time. The Variance Decomposition suggested that the percentage of the variations due to shocks or innovations of economic growth (LGDP) and energy consumption (LENGY) to carbon emission is very high and significant, accounting to 46 and 41 per cent, respectively, in 10 years to come. Research limitations/implications The study recommends that, in the future, the relationship be examined using super-exogeneity causality tests that takes into consideration the changes in policy or regime in contrast to Toda and Yamamoto. Furthermore, the addition of other variables such as fixed capital formation and labor force, which were not considered in this study, may result in strong correlation. Practical implications The results imply that the government of Tanzania can adopt environment conservation and energy saving policies without affecting its economic growth. As a matter of fact, to put a stop to persistent environmental pollution in Tanzania, the energy saving policy should be put in place rather quickly. It is imperative that the government implements policies and strategies that ensure continuous economic growth without forsaking the environment. Originality/value Despite the increase in carbon emissions, energy consumption and economic growth in Tanzania since 2000, to date, no previous work has been done to investigate their multivariate relationship. This is the first study that uses the Toda and Yamamoto non-Causality test, Impulse Response and Variance Decomposition Analysis to investigate a trivariate relationship of the variables mentioned above.
