The main purpose of this article was to determine the impact on the equilibrium of the local transport system from privileging EVs by permitting them to use bus lanes. The study used two sets of data: information on infrastructure and traffic management; and information on the recorded road network loads and traffic volumes generated by a given shopping centre—the E. Leclerc shopping centre (an important traffic generator within the city of Łódź, Poland). These sets were then used to develop a microsimulation traffic model for the shopping centre and the associated effects on the localised transport system. The model was constructed by means of the PTV Vissim software tool. An initial simulation was conducted that formed a basis for subsequent scenarios (in total, 17 simulations were performed). On the basis of the conducted analyses, it was established that—for the researched part of the transport system—privileging the still rather uncommon battery electric vehicles (BEVs) engendered a marginal deterioration of traffic conditions. At the same time, allowing BEVs to use bus lanes within the chosen research area had no negative impact on bus journey times.

Significant increase in the demand for freight and passenger transports by trains pushes the railway authorities and train companies to increase the speed, the axle load and the number of train carriages/wagons. All of these actions increase ground-borne noise and vibrations that negatively affect people who work, stay, or reside nearby the railway lines. In order to mitigate these phenomena, many techniques have been developed and studied but there is a serious lack of life-cycle information regarding such the methods in order to make a well-informed and sustainable decision. The aim of this study is to evaluate the life-cycle performance of mitigation methods that can enhance sustainability and efficacy in the railway industry. The emphasis of this study is placed on new methods for ground-borne noise and vibration mitigation including metamaterials, geosynthetics, and ground improvement. To benchmark all of these methods, identical baseline assumptions and the life-cycle analysis over 50 years have been adopted where relevant. This study also evaluates and highlights the impact of extreme climate conditions on the life-cycle cost of each method. It is found that the anti-resonator method is the most expensive methods compared with the others whilst the use of geogrids (for subgrade stiffening) is relatively reliable when used in combination with ground improvements. The adverse climate has also played a significant role in all of the methods. However, it was found that sustainable methods, which are less sensitive to extreme climate, are associated with the applications of geosynthetic materials such as geogrids, composites, etc.

Trees are essential elements of an urban space. The presence of trees in urban areas is not only appreciated as physical attribute, but beyond this, it serves a fundamental function in balancing and conserving urban ecosystem. Especially in tropical countries like Indonesia which receive high levels of solar radiation, trees contribute to the protection of urban areas from the impact of excessive micro-climatic conditions. But, the presence of trees sometimes resulted in the accidents for the residences because of broken branches and human injuries. This situation leads the city to prepare a tree inventory system, which is beneficial in giving the information about tree conditions and thus the information that would be useful for tree maintenance activities. The tree inventory on application for the city of East Jakarta was built for this purpose, comprising a tree inventory and easy access to the database. The application connects the database source with the GIS map, so that the users could retrieve information for each kind of data.

Эксплуатация морского транспорта подвержена влиянию множества факторов, учет которого требует высокой трудоемкости. Как правило, моделирование морских транспортных систем, выступающих в роли связующего звена различных экономических процессов, производится на стадии предпроектной разработки. На этой стадии, помимо прочего, необходимо оценить влияние на проектируемую систему не только детерминированных, но и стохастических процессов. В данной работе описан алгоритм учета влияния ветро-волновых режимов морских участков на эксплуатацию морских транспортных судов. Данный алгоритм реализован на примере модели системы поставок сжиженного природного газа (СПГ) морским транспортом потребителям г. Мурманск. Научной новизной данной работы является комплексный подход к логико-математическому описанию эксплуатации морских транспортных средств. Этот подход включает в себя моделирование эксплуатации судна на базе агентного подхода, моделирование ветро-волновых режимов на основе анализа временных рядов и стохастических экспериментов и определение скорости движения судна на основе эмпирико-статистических формул расчета скорости судна и теории гидродинамики судна. В ходе выполнения данной работы была построена имитационная модель поставок СПГ в г. Мурманск морским транспортом. Результаты прогонов этой модели были верифицированы на основе технико-экономического обоснования АО «ЦНИИМФ». Алгоритм построения имитационной модели, описанный в данной работе, может быть применен для имитационного моделирования морских транспортных систем с различными целями функционирования. Marine transport operation is affected by a lot of factors taking into account of which requires a high laboriousness. In most cases modelling of marine transport operation as a link in various economic processes is performed at the pre-design development stage. By the way, evaluation of the impact of both deterministic and stochastic processes on the designed system is necessary at this stage. Evaluation of transport system efficiency based on pre-formed system of criteria is in progress at this stage. This paper describes an algorithm for modeling the operation of marine vessels taking into account wind-wave regime of sea areas. This algorithm is implemented by the model of liquified natural gas (LNG) supply chain system by marine transport to consumers of the city of Murmansk. Scientific novelty of this paper is a complex approach to logical-mathematical description of marine vehicles exploitation. This approach consists of agent-based simulation of vessel exploitation, modelling of wind-wave regimes by means of time series analysis and stochastic modelling and the speed determination of the vessel movement based on the empirical-statistical formulas for calculating the speed of the vessel and the theory of vessel hydrodynamics. During this research simulation model LNG supply chain system by marine transport to consumers of the city of Murmansk was developed. The results of the model have been verified by the feasibility study performed by CNIIMF JSC. The algorithm for constructing simulation model described in this paper could be implemented in modelling of marine transport system for various purposes.

The planning and organisation of public passenger transport in rural areas is a complex process. The transport demand in rural areas is often low, which makes it hard to establish and run a financially sustainable public transport system. A solution is integrated passenger transport that eliminates deficiencies and provides benefits for all participants in the public passenger transport process. This paper describes the impact of integrated passenger transport on mobility in rural areas and critically evaluates different literature sources. Integration of passenger transport in urban areas has been described in the context of rural areas, and the challenges of integration of public passenger transport specific to rural areas have been analysed. Through the application in urban and rural areas, the planning of integrated and non-integrated passenger transport has been functionally analysed. The analysis found an increase in the degree of mobility in the areas that use integrated passenger transport compared to the non-integrated one. This research of the literature review has identified the rural areas of mobility as under-researched. The mobility research can set up a more efficient passenger transport planning system in rural areas.

One of the most interesting aspects of the aeronautical endeavours of Henson and Stringfellow was their awareness of the impact of the aeroplane as part of an overall transport system. It is all too easy in the field of aeronautical engineering to become mesmerised by the engineering intricacies of what one is doing and so fail to see the vehicle as part of this overall system concept. In many respects we have, I think, been able to avoid this inward thinking in the helicopter since its vertical flight capability has become intimately bound up with considerations of its operational duties.

Abstract Vibrational energy from intermodal transport system can be recovered through the application of piezoelectric energy harvesting system. The intermodal vibration sources are passenger cars and freight trucks moving on streets and highways, trains moving on railway tracks and planes moving on airport runways. However, the primary limiting factor of the application of the piezoelectric energy harvesting system has been the insignificant power output for power storage or to directly power electrical device. A special nano-mixture coating is developed to enhance the energy harvesting capability of the conventional piezoelectric material. This research investigates the impact of the nano-mixture coating on the power output. The experimental results of the nano-mixture coated system show substantial and explicit improvement on the power output. Alternative geometrical designs, trapezoidal and triangular are explored in anticipation for improved power output. But the rectangular energy harvester demonstrates better power harvesting capability. The results presented in this paper show the potential of the nano-mixture coating in power harvesting from intermodal transport system.

The contemporary literature of the subject lacks explicit determination of the role performed in rail transport systems by certain major components and assemblies used in rail transportation. One typically perceives the technical solutions applied in railway engineering as an entire body of solutions or as a subsystem, without properly emphasising the impact of defects on the operating efficiency of the rail transport system and without the due regard to safety in this domain of transport. The switch point mechanism/switch point assembly is an important component of a rail transport system. This article is an attempt to identify the role and importance of this assembly in a rail transport system.
