As a result of the global pandemic of covid-19, distance education went from being a little considered training option to the status of the main operating alternative for the school system. Educational institutions by adapting their work to the use of digital platforms have managed to keep their programs active despite reducing their training expectations. School activities at home face complex social situations that contravene the teaching precepts, cause poor learning and many cases of school dropout. Educational systems in the medium term will promote remote teaching modalities in digital and telematic versions, whose didactics will dominate the 21st century.

Over the past 30 years, the internet has evolved from being the web of content to being the web of thoughts and the web of things in business, communication, entertainment, and education. To stay competitive, higher education institutions have had to train students on the wide range of skills and experiences and to move to digital platforms to better meet the needs of students, employees, and organizations. This chapter provides an overview of the development of online education, the 1.0 to 5.0 phases of web development, and how the field of education has adapted to these phases. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of mobile learning such as MOOCs, course collaboration software, and how smartphones can be used in courses to interact with peers and faculty. This chapter then presents a case study illustrating how online courses can successfully integrate Web 4.0 and 5.0 technology. It concludes by discussing the benefits and challenges of adopting some disruptive technologies and on how educational institutions can meet the needs of the next generation of students.

The article reviewed the "National Doctrine of Education Development in the XXI Century", in particular, which was born in the conditions when the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the Bologna process was discussed. At that time The Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region (The Lisbon recognition convention (1997) has already received the status of the Law of Ukraine. The main idea of the Convention is to provide all people of the European Region with full use of the source of the diversity of educational systems, to as much as possible facilitate the access of residents of each country and students in the educational institutions to the educational resources of other states, to a certain extent predetermined the ideology of the “National Doctrine”. And although the decision to join the Bologna process at the time of preparing the document was not yet made, however, all of its provisions brought Ukraine closer to the European choice in the field of education, demonstrating its orientation towards European standards and principles.

The shift to an online education paradigm has been dramatically seen in educational systems and universities due to COVID-19 across the world, especially in United Arab Emirates. The emergence of COVID-19 forced educational institutions to divert all strategies from physical to online platforms for the safety of students, instructors and all the other staff members. However, this is not the case in educational institutions only because other governmental and non-governmental institutions are affected in the same way around the world. The objective of this research is to understand the behavior of students due to a sudden shift towards an online education experience in university environment and gauge their preference either on physical or online education system for the future. The research collected data through an online questionnaire from 210 undergraduate university students which further helped the researcher to draw the discussion and conclusion. The research proves that a high majority of students are willing to change from physical education to an online platforms and they believe that they can perform well by the adoption of this new platform of online education system. The research recommendations are helpful for the educational policy developers.

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a novel strain of Coronavirus. COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic on 11th March 2020, and it has impacted almost every aspect of human life. Education is crucial to individuals and society, and COVID-19 has affected educational systems worldwide. According to UNESCO monitoring, over 100 countries have implemented nationwide closures, impacting nearly 90% of the world's student population. In this chapter, the authors discuss how ICT is helping the community during COVID-19 and how it is catering to the young population's education needs. The demographics of COVID-19, along with an aging population, are explored. The authors then focus on the education sector and the challenges for education from school to universities. Furthermore, they look into how ICT facilitates education in the COVID-19 pandemic and the issues and challenges ICT faces in implementing online education. In the end, they discuss the role of ICT in developing communities and the future directions of online education for the development of smart communities.

This article problematizes the status of the visually impaired students in Bangladesh under the COVID-19 global pandemic. We inquire into two inter-related questions: (a) what level and quality of technological access does a visually impaired student have in their higher education institution (e.g. a university or government-affiliated college operating under a university)? And, (b) how are these students coping academically under the pandemic? Our preliminary study employed mixed methods for data collection, encompassing a quantitative survey questionnaire followed by qualitative phone interviews. We reached out to approximately 15 male and female students enrolled in public and private higher educational institutions in the country. The findings will be instrumental to initiate a collaborative discussion among academics and practitioners in the government, non-government and private sectors in the country and around the Global South.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has not only posed a challenge to education but created an opportunity to spearhead a digital transformation and the novel delivery of a Pharm.D. curriculum. The process to transform the curriculum in a sustainable and iterative manner involved multiple steps including: (1) Communication, (2) Maintaining faculty engagement, (3) Allowing outside the box thinking, (4) Providing resources and tools and (5) Creating accountability and timelines. At our institution, we have been interested in digital transformation since completing our interview of global leaders. We began our journey using the current COVID-19 pandemic as an accelerant for change. Digital transformation in any industry is not a simple undertaking. However, with planning, aligned organizational interests, consistent and regular communication, provision of resources and tools, engaging faculty and creating accountability and timelines with deliverables the implementation can be successful. When the global pandemic wanes and educational institutions commence in-person classes, having undergone the stages of digital transformation, we will be able to embrace these changes and transform education, not having to reproduce pre-pandemic educational systems.

The paper discusses the processes of implementation of digital platforms, a special group of network media, in the filed of education. The effects of platform mechanisms on established learning concepts, especially the notion of education as a common good, are critically considered. Special attention is given to the implications of ''pandemic pedagogy'' conditioned by the appearance of the disease COVID-19 on the reconfiguration of previous practices and educational institutions. The paper points to the fruitfulness of the interdisciplinary dialogue of media studies and sociology of education in the analysis of the dynamics and transformation of modern educational systems.

This article discusses how to teachers ensure further learning - post-learning in the emergency of the Covid-19 pandemic can effectively increase student ownership and engagement in online learning. Most educational institutions' closure resulted in a dramatic change in education, marked by the emergence of distinctive e-learning, where teaching was conducted remotely and on digital platforms. The transition in the education system impacts various stakeholders, especially teachers and students, in various ways. One of the issues surrounding students' engagement in schools and the learning process became a hot topic again, considering that recently all countries in the world have been targeted by the spread of the global pandemic Covid-19. There is almost no learning process without the engagement and activeness of learners in the process itself. Students engaged in their learning are energized by curiosity, originality, and satisfying relationships, leading to better academic achievement. Through the theoretical review and content analysis, the authors explained that the ownership and engagement of learners in online learning could be achieved by combining several strategies. Teachers need to reflect on these strategies and how each falls into this area of engagement.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which originated in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, was declared as a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO) on 11th of March, 2020 after it has spread to many countries of the world. It has also caused more than 171 countries of the world to close their educational institutions for several months in the year 2020. The impact of COVID-19 on education is bizarre and unprecedented in history because more than 1.5 billion students from across the globe have been affected by school closure. Most Nigerian students and other African or underdeveloped countries were more disadvantaged because most educational institutions in Nigeria still follow the traditional set-up of face-to-face lectures in the normal classroom settings.  This opinion article highlights the importance of online education in a time of global pandemic and natural disaster. It also examines the strengths and challenges of online education.

Cross-situational emotionality is a well-established dimension of personality, however the ability to modulate emotional expression by social domain is also a key aspect of personality functioning. We describe a self-report measure, the Domain Emotional Expression Profile (DEEP), designed to assess 5 emotions and behaviours in relation to 5 social domains, and report 2 studies. Study 1 (N = 166 students) assessed construct validity based on predictions from attachment theory regarding distress expression, and explored other emotions and domains. Study 2 (N = 279 students) tested hypotheses based on findings from Study 1 and explored the status of friendship interactions. In Study 1, mean distress-expression comfort-seeking scores in family and partner interactions were substantially higher than in work and in a social (e.g. party) situation consistent with the attachment based prediction (p < .001). In exploratory analyses mean anger expression scores were similarly higher in family and partner relationships than in work and social situations. However distress expression was higher in partner than family interactions (p = .008) which was not the case for anger expression. Study 2 replicated these findings from Study 1, and indicated an intermediate position for friendships between family and partner, and work and social interactions. We report support for the construct validity of the DEEP and replicated evidence regarding the partitioning of anger expression across domains, together with new indications of friendship processes. This method of profiling emotional expression and behaviours across social contexts offers a way of characterising individual differences, including those associated with psychopathology.
