AbstractBiodiversity loss may increase the risk of infectious disease in a phenomenon known as the dilution effect. Circumstances that increase the likelihood of disease dilution are: (i) when hosts vary in their competence, and (ii) when communities disassemble predictably, such that the least competent hosts are the most likely to go extinct. Despite the central role of competence in diversity–disease theory, we lack a clear understanding of the factors underlying competence, as well as the drivers and extent of its variation. Our perspective piece encourages a mechanistic understanding of competence and a deeper consideration of its role in diversity–disease relationships. We outline current evidence, emerging questions and future directions regarding the basis of competence, its definition and measurement, the roots of its variation and its role in the community ecology of infectious disease.

Human habits are considered to be an important root of societal problems. The significance of habits has been demonstrated for a variety of behaviors in different domains, such as work, transportation, health, and ecology, suggesting that habits have a pervasive impact on human life. Studying and changing habits in societal context requires a broad view of behavior, which poses a challenge for applying basic models to complex human habits. We address the conceptualization and operationalization of habits in the current literature and note that claims about the role of habits in societal context rarely agree with the basic definition of habits as goal-independent behavior. We consider future directions that are important for making progress in the study of habit change in societal context.

As a result of the global pandemic of covid-19, distance education went from being a little considered training option to the status of the main operating alternative for the school system. Educational institutions by adapting their work to the use of digital platforms have managed to keep their programs active despite reducing their training expectations. School activities at home face complex social situations that contravene the teaching precepts, cause poor learning and many cases of school dropout. Educational systems in the medium term will promote remote teaching modalities in digital and telematic versions, whose didactics will dominate the 21st century.

We live in a period when schools are involuntarily closed; human life gradually slowed down and came to a halt due to a pandemic, but distance education is already underway. While some higher education institutions have been struggling to meet distance education, the ones that have currently provided distance education in many parts of the world continued to maintain their existing educational systems in the time of the pandemic. In this connection, the central objective of this paper is to explore how online solutions and attempts have been defined under the term of “emergency remote education” since the first outbreak of the pandemic and how pandemic pedagogy during COVID-19 has contributed to emergency remote education and online education both in the world and specifically in Turkey. As there has been a gradual shift in higher education lately, this chapter is a response to educational crisis specifically for English teaching and learning at a distance from a positive perspective.

Abstract: The Covid-19 that emerged since December 2019 in Wuhan China has subsequently spread throughout the world and is determined to be a global pandemic on March 11, 2020 by WHO. One of the efforts to break the chain of the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia was carried out with Large-Scale Social Restrictions on March 31, 2020. This had an impact on the economic conditions of the community at large. This condition encourages MUI to issue legal fatwas related to handling Covid-19 and its impact through the implementation of zakat. By looking at the role of the fatwa, several conclusions can be formulated, first that the MUI fatwa Number 23 of 2020 is a quick-responsive and effective effort that plays a clear role in overcoming the danger of difficulties in fulfilling the necessities of life that are being experienced by the people of the Covid-19 pandemic era so that life humans and the continuity of religion is maintained. This fatwa is in accordance with the logic of the theory of closing the opportunity for danger (sadd al-dzari'ah) which aims to save human life (hifdz al-nafs) and the continuity of religion (hifdz al-din). Second, that the MUI fatwa Number 23 of 2020 acts as a medium for social change needed during the Covid-19 pandemic era.

In recent years, critical thinkers have done serious discussions in education and other fields in our lives like social, cultural, political and economical. This paper is going to consider some of the critical thinkers’ theories in order to clarify teacher and student interactions in education. The research is a type of fundamental and qualitative study which frames teacher and student interactions by means of a descriptive – analytical method. Accordingly, we introduce critical teacher as a teacher who includes specific characteristics like emancipation, critical nature and openness. Therefore mentioned teacher attends the role of culture in human life and he resists reproduced by the regime. He is someone who provides the way for public hearing; in addition, he teaches his students how to resist domination. On the other side, a student in this school will not be dominated by the regime by means of its essential tools as probe and questioning. A student has been taught to hear everyone regardless of race, religion and social class. Finally, this paper proposes applying these ideas for educational systems informal and operational ways.
