This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of sensory details in writing descriptive essay to grade twelve STEM students, University of Cebu-Main Campus. The result was used as basis for a proposed action plan. Specifically, the study sought answers to the pretest performances of the control and experimental groups, the posttest performances of the control and experimental groups, the significant difference between their pretest performances, the significant difference between their pretest-posttest performances, and the significant difference between their posttest performances. A quasi-experimental design was used with the control and experimental group. There were 60 grade twelve students as subject in the study. The experimental group was taught with the use of sensory details while the control was taught using the lecture method. Pretest and posttest evaluations were used to measure the academic performance of the students in both groups. Most of the students had good level performances. The posttest scores of both groups marked an increase and the posttest mean value of the experimental group was significantly higher compared to the control group. Writing for students is more fun and engaging when they are able to actually feel, see, smell, touch, or hear what they are writing about. Sensory detailed composition writing also explores the creative skills of learners. Learners would exercise realistic yet creative way of writing a descriptive essay.

This study determined the effectiveness of synectics in teaching Grade 9 science in one private high school in Mandaue City, Cebu. A quasi-experimental design using the control and experimental groups was utilized. The experimental group was taught science concepts using synectics, while the lecture method was used in teaching the control group. Pretest and posttest evaluations were utilized to measure the academic performance of both groups of students. The results of the study showed that the pretest scores of the control and experimental groups on the three topics covered were fair and that the pretest mean values for the two groups were comparable or closer with each other. It also revealed that the posttest scores of both groups marked an increase in good performance level and the posttest mean value of the group with an intervention using synectics in teaching was greatly or highly improved compared to the group taught using the lecture method. The results also showed that there was a significant difference in the pretest and posttest scores between the control and experimental groups. Using synectics in teaching science concepts is an effective technique in improving students ‘performance since it provides them with a meaningful and authentic understanding of scientific concepts by associating these concepts to real-life situations.

The quest for better strategies in teaching is a never-ending process. This scenario is heightened more by the myriad online instructional materials fit for classroom use. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of video lecture materials for statistics proficiency of first year students of Davao Doctors College.The researchers employed quasi-experimental design that involved purposively chosen 31 students for the control group and 26 students for the experimental group. The control group received traditional instruction while the experimental group utilized video lecture materials as the instructional tool. The questionnaire consisted 50 multiple choice items and established a reliability index of .82. This investigation used t-test analysis to establish the same level of statistics proficiency among the students before the conduct of the study. The study concluded that both learning strategies were effective in teaching students the basic concepts of statistics as indicated by the significant improvement of their pre-test to posttest scores. Although the posttest results of the students who were taught using video lecture materials were higher than those supervised using lecture method, the significance of this difference was never established. This study aimed to find out if Physics Education Technology (PhET) simulations can improve the performance of the Baybay City Senior High School STEM students on the selected topic in physics, that is, electrodynamics. This study utilized a quasi-experimental type where pre-test and post-test are multiple choice type of test and involved 72 STEM students. The grouping of the students was identified based on their sections, one section served as the control group and other is the experimental group. Experimental group is allowed to play the PhET simulation for an hour utilizing their vacant period every day, while the control is not exposed to any activity that intervene leading to the creation of formal construct of ideas in electrodynamics. Result showed that mean scores of the control and experimental groups does not imply a significant difference, despite of the interest shown by the students in playing the said simulation. Perhaps, students are more attracted to simulation in which they have gone through during their lectures. Furthermore, study shows that the performance of students before and after exposure to PhET simulation does not necessarily pose a big difference but indicates a slight improvement to their performances.

  This study determined the effect of constructivist method in students’ mathematics achievement. It sought to answer the influence of teaching methods in students’ achievement scores in large classes in terms of knowledge, comprehension, application, and analysis questions. A pretest- posttest quasi-experimental control group design was used. The experimental group was exposed to constructivist method while the control group to traditional method. To determine the influence of the methods in the students’ achievement scores, the one way ANCOVA was used. The researcher handled the two classes. Results showed that there was a significant difference in the students’ achievement scores in terms of knowledge, comprehension; application and analysis questions. The control group performed better than the experimental group in all levels of questions. Constructivist approach is ineffective in large classes while the lecture method is an appropriate teaching approach for large classes.   Keywords - constructivism, large classes, mathematics achievement, experimental

The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of the use of alphabet cards game as interesting tool to explain vocabularies and it make it easier to remember their meanings. This study belongs to the quasi experimental research and presents pre-test, post test and to investigate the effect of using alphabet cards game on vocabulary mastery of commercial business administration students. The participants were the students from commercial business administration students at the third semester (N=54) of State Polytechnic Bengkalis and divided into two groups. Both groups were taught vocabulary, however, the experimental group students who are exposed to alphabet cards game and the controlled group students who received conventional method. Pre-test and post-test were given to both experimental group students and controlled group students. The score of the vocabulary tests were compared through independent sample t-test. The mean value of pre-test of experimental class was 61.35, while the control class was 52.23. After learning using alphabet card games in experimental class the mean value obtained in post-test was 78.85, while in control class was 59.04.  The improved of learning outcomes can be seen from the level of significance was 0.000 and it was lower than t test 0.000<0.05.  It means that the hypothesis null is not accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the score of the students in learning vocabulary between the experimental group and control group was significantly different. The experimental group students who learned vocabulary using alphabet cards game had increased their vocabulary mastery.

AbstractThis quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of teaching aesthetic skills to faculty members on development of their effective teaching performance through a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample included 32 faculty members at a major Iranian university who were divided into the experimental (11 participants) and control groups (21 participants). The experimental group was taught to use aesthetic skills in the teaching and learning processes; however, no intervention was applied to the control group. To evaluate the effective teaching performance of the faculty members, a tailor-made questionnaire was used in two pretest and posttest stages, where randomly chosen students were asked to express their opinions about the faculty membersí performance. The sample size of the students was 1096 in the pretest stage and 935 in the posttest stage. Paired t-test results showed that there was no significant difference between the mean effective teaching scores of the faculty members in the control group in the pretest stage and in the posttest stage. However, the mean effective teaching scores of the faculty members in the experimental group were found to be significantly higher in the posttest. In addition, although there was no significant difference between the mean effective teaching scores of the two faculty groups in the pretest, faculty members in the experimental group outperformed their counterparts in the control group. Based on the findings, applying aesthetic skills by faculty members in the teaching and learning processes can pave the way for sustainable development of their effective teaching performance. Therefore, faculty members are recommended to acquire the required knowledge and skills to better use aesthetic skills in the teaching process.

Making connections between the representations of trigonometric functions and an interpretation of graphs of the functions are major challenges to many students. This study explores the effectiveness of the GeoGebra on grade 12 students’ success in making connections between the representations of trigonometric functions and the interpretation of graphs. A non-equivalent control-group pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design was used. The sample of the study consisted of sixty-one grade 12 students from two schools. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean achievements of the experimental group and the control group on making connections between representations of trigonometric functions, and on analyses and interpretations of representations of trigonometric functions, in favour of the experimental group. This study extends the findings of previous studies on the effectiveness of dynamic mathematics software on students’ learning of representations and interpretation of graphs of trigonometric functions.            Keywords: GeoGebra, functions graphs, Trigonometric functions

One of the factors that influence Kadarzi's achievement is the knowledge and attitudes of the toddler's mother. This study aims to determine the effect of counseling using backsheet media on the knowledge and attitudes of toddlers' mothers about Kadarzi in the Cipeundeuy Health Center District of West Bandung Regency. The research design used was quasi-experimental with a pre-post test control group design model with a total sample of 28 people each for the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group was given an intervention in the form of counseling using flipchart media, while the control group was given an intervention in the form of counseling using leaflet media. The results obtained from the Wilcoxon test in the experimental group and the t-dependent test in the control group were changes in the increase in knowledge and attitude scores in the experimental group and the control group after intervention (p <0.005). The results of the Mann-Whitney test showed no significant difference between knowledge and attitude scores in the experimental group and the control group (p> 0.005). It is better to do further research related to Kadarzi's behavior so that the application of the Kadarzi indicator can be monitored so that it can describe the results of attitudinal changes, and to increase Kadarzi's knowledge and attitudes to toddler mothers.

A positive attitude correlates to successful learning; while a negative attitude leads to poor learning. The present study aimed to compare the pre-service biology teachers’ attitudes towards learning biology and assessing their attitudinal change before and after being taught by resource-based instructions (RBI) in Rwanda. A survey-research design was used, in combination with a quasi-experimental control group, and the equivalent time-series designs. Pre-service biology teachers were taught at a public university in three separate groups, with one control group and two experimental groups. Each group received a pre-attitude and a post-attitude assessment. In contrast, at a private university, they were taught as a single group, in a series of instructions, starting with the lecture method, followed by animation-based instruction and small- group laboratory activities, in which at each stage, the pre-service biology teachers received the same assessment. The biology Attitudinal Scale showed a Cronbach alpha reliability of 0.625 before its use. The data were analyzed quantitatively; and the results revealed no statistically significant difference between the public and the private pre-service teachers’ attitudes before learning microbiology. After the teaching interventions, the results revealed that both the traditional and the resource-based instructions improved the pre-service biology teachers’ attitudes towards learning biology, as a result of their improved maturity and their anticipated future teaching career.

<p>This research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of constructivist learning using guided discovery models on the concept of a regulatory system for curiosity and anti-narcotics attitudes. This research used a quasi-experimental and pre-experimental design. The population was all of the 4th semester MIA classes of SMA Negeri 1 Salatiga which consists of seven classes. Samples were taken with a convenience sampling technique.  MIA 2.4 and 5.4 as the experimental group and MIA 3.4 and 4.4 as the control group. The data in this research were collected by the scale of curiosity and anti-narcotics attitude. Data were analyzed with descriptive analyzed and t-test. The result showed as follows: there is a significant difference at the end of the curiosity and anti-narcotics attitude of constructivist learning using guided discovery model compared with direct instruction model learning; the average of student’s curiosity and anti-narcotics attitude score ≥ 3,00 on constructivist learning using guided discovery model. It is concluded that constructivist learning using a guided discovery model is effectively completed learning outcomes of the curiosity and anti-narcotics attitude on the regulatory system concept.</p>
