The purpose is to analyze the influence of gender on touching behaviour in a mixed dyad within romantic media discourse. The comparative study demonstrates new insights into gender-neutral and gender-specific touch cues initiated by strangers in face-to-face romantic encounters. Methods. A hybrid approach (inductive and deductive) to thematic analysis was used to interpret codes of nonverbal immediacy cues. The thematic analysis covered six stages of the coding process resulted in deriving a codebook. Qualitative interactive sociolinguistic and quantitative analyses, as well as a method of statistical evaluation of hypotheses (Pearson’s chi-square test), were used to reveal the statistical evidence for touch cues functioning.Results. The sample consisted of 24 groups of touching behaviour, which included 557 feminine and 302 masculine touch cues. The identified nonverbal cues were grouped according to the focus of the object: self-focused (eight groups) and other person focused (sixteen groups). According to the results of the study, the expected gender differences were partially supported, considering the extent of the effect size. Gender-neutral touching behaviour includes eleven groups: four groups of self-focused (clothes straightening, holding hands in front of one’s body, hair grooming, holding hands behind one’s back) and seven groups of other person focused (hugs, hand-in-hand, handshake, kiss on the cheek, clap, dancing, arm link). Thirteen groups of touching behaviour were found to be gender-specific: four self-focused (clap – initiated only by men; hand(s) on the heart, face covering, lower lip biting – initiated only by women) and nine other person focused (hand kiss, lifting up a woman, selfie – initiated only by men; conversely, caress, kiss on lips, couple rubbing noses, shoulder massage, feeding a partner with one’s fingers, jumping into partner’s arms – initiated only by women).Conclusions. Comparative analysis of touching behaviour revealed that women tended to communicate the immediacy through hand-in-hand (φ = 0.35), hair grooming (φ = 0.28), hugs (φ = 0.23), holding hands in front of one’s body (φ = 0.18), pat (φ = 0.12), hand(s) on the heart, and face covering; while men were predisposed to use clothes straightening (φ = 0.1) and hand kiss; handshake and kiss on the cheek were initiated similarly by both genders. The obtained data are a prerequisite for further analysis of nonverbal behaviour initiated by opposite-sex strangers in the contemporary media dating context.Key words: nonverbal communication, face-to-face encounters, initiating romantic relationship, media context, dating culture, reality dating show, interpersonal interaction. Мета. Метою статті є аналіз впливу ґендеру на тактильну поведінку у змішаній діаді в рамках сучасного романтичного медіадискурсу на етапі ініціації романтичних відносин. Порівняльне дослідження демонструє нові уявлення про ґендерно-нейтральні і ґендерно-специфічні такесичні засоби комунікації, ініційовані комунікантами під час романтичного знайомства. Методи дослідження. Гібридний підхід (індуктивний і дедуктивний) до тематичного аналізу було застосовано для інтерпретації кодів невербальних засобів комунікації. Тематичний аналіз охоплював шість етапів кодування, за результатами якого було розроблено кодову книгу. Якісний інтерактивний соціолінгвістичний і кількісний аналіз, а також метод статистичної оцінки гіпотез (критерій хі-квадрат Пірсона) використовувались з метою розкриття статистичних закономірностей функціо-нування такесичних засобів комунікації. Результати. Вибірка дослідження становила 24 групи тактильної поведінки, до яких увійшли 557 зразків фемінних і 302 зразки маскулінних такесичних засобів комунікації. Виявлені засоби комунікації було згруповано відповідно до фокусу об’єкта на самоорієнтовані (8 груп) і контакто-орієнтовані (16 груп). За результатами дослідження очікувані ґендерні від-мінності були частково підтримані з урахуванням показника вагомості впливу. До ґендерно-нейтральних віднесено 11 груп такесичних засобів комунікації: 4 групи самоорієнтованих (розправляння одягу, тримання рук спереду, гра з волоссям, тримання рук за спиною) і 7 груп контакто-орієнтованих (інтимні обійми, рука в руці, рукостискання, поцілунок у щоку, обійми з поплескуванням, танець, тримання під руку). До ґендерно-специфічних віднесено 13 груп такесичних засобів комунікації: 4 групи самоорієнтованих (плескання в долоні – ініційовано лише чоловіками; рука на серці, закриття руками обличчя, покусування нижньої губи – ініційовано лише жінками) і 9 груп контакто-орієнтованих (поцілунок руки, здіймання жінки на руки, селфі – ініційовано лише чоловіками; ласка, поцілунок у губи, пестощі носами, масаж плечей, годування партнера з рук, стрибки на руки партнеру – ініційовано лише жінками).Висновки. Порівняльний аналіз встановив, що жінки надають перевагу руці в руці (φ = 0,35), грі з волоссям (φ = 0,28), інтимним обіймам (φ = 0,23), триманню рук спереду (φ = 0,18), обіймам з поплескуванням (φ = 0,12), руці на серці і закрит-тю руками обличчя; чоловіки надають перевагу розправлянню одягу (φ = 0,1) і поцілунку руки; тотожними є рукостискання і поцілунок у щоку. Отримані дані є передумовою для подальшого аналізу невербальних засобів комунікації, ініційованих під час первинної міжособистісної інтеракції в рамках романтичного медіадискурсу. The article deals with the approach to developing an advertising multimedia product for the promotion or sale of goods or services. Under the advertising product is an advertising video, an interactive commercial, 3-D advertising, virtual and augmented reality, an online store. Based on the analogy method, a diagram of the process of perceiving the advertising multimedia product by the user is presented. The use of the hybrid approach of customer development for updating the multimedia product and taking into account the virtual values of users is substantiated. Developed scenarios for the development of a multimedia product, depending on the results of achieving the planned goals. The sequence of multimedia product development is proposed based on the convergence of face-to-face and screen-to-screen approaches.

Ireland has had a reliance on voluntary groups to provide peer-to-peer bereavement support. The aim of this study was to explore volunteers’, within these voluntary groups, experiences of supporting parents following a fatal fetal anomaly diagnosis. Purposive sampling was used to recruit volunteers ( n = 17) and face-to-face interviews undertaken. NVivo12 was utilized to assist in the thematic analysis of the data. Five themes; “motivation for altruistic acts,” “being challenged,” “value of education and training,” “supporting volunteers to support others,” and “it is not a sprint, it is a marathon” were identified. Volunteers felt comfortable in their peer-support role but found the lack of knowledge regarding newly implemented termination of pregnancy (TOP) services challenging. The importance of education/training was identified, emphasizing the need for collaboration with health care professionals and other voluntary organizations for support. The findings illustrate the need for collaborative working between health care professionals and volunteers to assist them in supporting bereaved parents.

Translanguaging is a tool for bilingual or multilingual to learn more than one language.  In the field of linguistic, translanguaging is not something new. However, its implementation is still found rare in higher education. To fill this void, this study aims to investigate the implementation of translanguaging in classroom, especially in higher education. This research was intended to answer how helpful translanguaging practices in EFL Classroom is. By using qualitative method, the data were collected by recording two credits full face-to-face classroom interaction. One lecturer and her forty-five students voluntarily became the research participants.  The data were then analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings showed that the practices were helpful in a way that the tutors could build an engaging dialogue for the students, enabling them to understand the complex learning materials. These findings then implied that in the teaching and learning process, EFL lecturers tend to be more attentive as they prefer to have their students understanding on complex subject to build English proficiency of their students’.

The romantic relationship is an interesting topic to study because it emerges as an important part of adolescent development that becomes increasingly important in subsequent years of individual development. One of the limitations of research in this field is the difficulty of providing unique and standards definitions of romantic relationships due to cultural differences in conceptions and the differences within individuals from the same cultural group. This study aims to explore the concept of a romantic relationship from the perceptions of Balinese adolescents and terms that represent it that can be used as a basis to comprehend the dynamics of romantic relationships in Balinese culture nowadays. Two phases of the study conducted through survey and FGD. Balinese adolescents were aged 15-17 years old (n= 277). Through thematic analysis procedures, some emergent themes were identified as romantic relationship conceptualization. This relationship was conceptualized as an exclusive relationship, consisting of affective, cognitive, and psychomotor dimensions, and was represented by many terms. This study concluded that the concept of romantic relationships for each individual from the same cultural group could be perceived differently, leading to varied forms of adolescents' behavior.

Androcentrism refers to the propensity to center society around men and men’s needs, priorities, and values and to relegate women to the periphery. Androcentrism also positions men as the gender-neutral standard while marking women as gender-specific. Examples of androcentrism include the use of male terms (e.g., he), images, and research participants to represent everyone. Androcentrism has been shown to have serious consequences. For example, women’s health has been adversely affected by over-generalized medical research based solely on male participants. Nonetheless, relatively little is known about androcentrism’s proximate psychological causes. In the present review, we propose a social cognitive perspective arguing that both social power and categorization processes are integral to understanding androcentrism. We present and evaluate three possible pathways to androcentrism deriving from (a) men being more frequently instantiated than women, (b) masculinity being more “ideal” than femininity, and/or (c) masculinity being more common than femininity.

The antivax movement is now a constant phenomenon with increasing social implications. This study explores how the antivax movement is articulated in Romania on the basis of qualitative analysis applied to interviews. Our pilot study focuses on the opinions of 100 persons who oppose vaccination interviewed between 2017 and 2020. We conducted both face-to-face and online semistructured interviews to trace the factors determining attitudes against vaccination. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first such extended study to target individuals rather than groups or media discourse. We strive to provide a multifaceted view on how the antivax phenomenon is taking shape. Responses varied in style and length, so we needed to systematize the narratives. We filtered the answers using the interpretive net described by Entman (1993), thereby grouping the main narratives into four sections. We then reconstructed the implicit frames used by individuals in interpreting their position. We consider content quality analysis to be a relevant method to reveal the facets and depth of the antivax phenomenon, thereby enabling more complex explanations. We compare the results of this study with rationales stemming from similar investigations conducted around the world and then highlight opinions specific to the Romanian public.

The education community, accustomed to the face-to-face education system, had to switch to the distance education system with the COVID-19 pandemic. It was inevitable for educators who had not experienced distance education to prepare themselves in a short time and to complete the process with the least damage. Of course, there were many negativities during distance education and the whole world gained certain experiences during this time. In this study, the problems experienced by the academic staff using distance education applications, their approaches to distance education, how much they have improved themselves in other possible problems in the future, and what they expect from distance education have been examined. Thematic analysis was used as a research design; articles, theses, books, reports of official institutions and organizations were examined; and the concepts that emerged during distance education applications were divided according to categories by using descriptive and thematic analysis.

Arson is a recurrent problem in Kenyan secondary schools. Although school violence – notably gun violence – has received significant attention, there has been less academic attention paid to school arson, especially in Africa. This study explores how newspaper reports in Kenya framed school arson and links these framings to broader questions about the understanding and production of Kenyan identity. A thematic analysis of 334 newspaper reports revealed multiple understandings of school arson. Print media discourse afforded journalists an opportunity to make a commentary on the post-colonial globalized Kenyan society. We discuss the implications of this for understanding post-colonial media in Africa.
