Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educational centers and universities in Venezuela have closed their physical plants and are migrating to emergency remote education to continue with academic programs. This empirical study aimed to analyze the predictive capacity of academic self-efficacy and emotional intelligence skills on each of the dimensions of psychological well-being. We employed a cross-sectional predictive design. The sample comprised 277 university students, of which 252 were female (91.00%). Their ages ranged from 18 to 45 years, with a mean of 20.35 (SD = 2.29). Non-probabilistic chance sampling was used. For data collection, we used an anonymous online form, contacted students by mail, and invited them to participate in the study. Questionnaires were available between 217 and 227 days of decreed quarantine in Venezuela. The results indicated average levels of academic self-efficacy (Me = 4; IQR = 2), emotional intelligence: clarity (Me = 27; IQR = 10), attention (Me = 25; IQR = 10) y repair (Me = 25; IQR = 12), and psychological well-being (Me = 35; IQR = 5). We found differences according to sex and age, specifically in emotional regulation (z = 3.73, p < 0.001, d = 0.438) and in bonds of psychological well-being (z = 2.51, p = 0.012, d = 0.276) favoring men (Me = 33, IQR = 9; Me = 8, IQR = 1), respectively. Regarding age, statistically significant differences were found in the group of students older than 21 years with higher perception of psychological well-being (z = 3.69, p < 0.001, d = 0.43) and in each of its dimensions. Emotional intelligence and academic self-efficacy were found to be significant predictors of psychological well-being and its dimensions, specifically on control (R2-Cox = 0.25, R2-Nagelkerke = 0.34, 69.90% of total correct classification), links (R2-Cox = 0.09, R2-Nagelkerke = 0.12, 65.07% of total correct classification), projects (R2-Cox = 0.32, R2-Nagelkerke = 0.46, 78.40% of total correct classification), acceptance (R2-Cox = 0.17, R2-Nagelkerke = 0.23, 68.28% of total correct classification), and total well-being (R2-Cox = 0.52, R2-Nagelkerke = 0.71, 87.16% of total correct classification). It was concluded that emotional intelligence and academic self-efficacy are protective psychological resources of psychological well-being that should be promoted at university to mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic on the mental health of young people.

Background: Cellular rejection is most common 3–6 months after heart transplantation while chronic rejection, that is, cardiac allograft vasculopathy and malignancy are the most common causes of death in heart-transplant recipients beyond the third year after transplantation. However, the heart transplantation recipient’s perceived threat of graft rejection has never been explored. Aim: The aim was to explore perceived threat of the risk of graft rejection and its relationship to psychological wellbeing, fatigue, health literacy, adherence and self-efficacy 1–5 years after heart transplantation. Methods: In a nationwide, cross-sectional study that constituted part of the Self-management after thoracic transplantation project, 79 heart recipients (68% men and 32% women with a mean age of 52.6 years) were investigated after one year ( n=28), two years ( n=17), three years ( n=11), four years ( n=17) and five years ( n=6). The instruments used were: the Perceived Threat of the Risk of Graft Rejection, the Psychological General Well-being, Self-efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease, the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory, the Newest Vital Sign and the Basel Assessment of Adherence to Immunosuppressive Medication Scale. Results: Twenty-eight per cent of the heart transplantation recipients perceived graft rejection as a serious threat. Intrusive anxiety was low and 37% perceived the threat of the risk of graft rejection as being beyond their control. Heart transplant recipients with high level of fatigue and low psychological well-being reported stronger intrusive anxiety and less control. Conclusion: A perceived threat of the risk of graft rejection is present in the everyday lives of heart transplantation recipients and is strongly related to overall psychological well-being.

Abstract Background. Mental well-being is an essential concept in research and public health as it is recognised as an indicator of population mental health and quality of life. Previous studies have provided evidence that general self-efficacy is positively related to mental well-being. The aim of this study is to examine whether higher help-seeking self-efficacy and higher psychological well-being self-efficacy respectively, are associated with increased mental well-being.Methods. In this cross-sectional study 1795 adults from the general English population were recruited from a market research panel to fill out an online questionnaire between 24th September 2018 and 05th October 2018. Two simple linear regression analyses were used to investigate the relationship between each of help-seeking self-efficacy and psychological well-being self- efficacy as exposure variables and mental well-being as the outcome. Multiple imputation by chained equations was used to handle missing data.Results. No evidence was found for an association between either help-seeking self-efficacy or psychological well-being self-efficacy and mental well-being.Conclusions. These findings do not provide evidence that improving help-seeking or psychological well-being self-efficacy could lead to improving well-being. Methodological limitations, such as unmeasured confounders might be responsible for the lack of evidence in this study. Having a mental health condition is a potential negative confounder that might not have been measured adequately.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the following lockdown on physical exercise (PEx) practice, pain, and psychological well-being. Methods: A cross-sectional multicentric study was performed using a nonrandom convenience sampling from the general population (≥18 years-old) of 6 countries (Brazil, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, and Spain) adopting social isolation (SI). The validated self-administered online survey (PEF-COVID19) was used. The tests T-test and Chi-square with Bonferroni correction were used for statistical analysis and a multivariate logistic regression model (p ˂ 0.05). Results: We included 3194 replies and ~80% of the respondents were in SI. Brazilian sample was highly influenced by the pandemic considering PEx practice and habits, pain, anxiety, and stress (p ˂ 0.05). Among the European countries, Italy presented the major changes. The model to predict the non-practice of PEx during SI showed that the variables countries, smoking, SI, and PEx level were significant predictors (p ˂ 0.001). Conclusion: The pandemic changed the PEx practice and habits, and the psychological well-being of populations in different manners. Countries, smoking, SI, and PEx level were predictors for the non-practice of PEx. Public health strategies are suggested to avoid sedentary lifestyles and quality of life decrease.

Introduction: the phenomenon of giftedness is sufficiently studied in domestic and foreign psychology, and some features of the mental and personal development of gifted children and adolescents are studied. Particular attention is paid to the instrumental and motivational aspects of giftedness, as well as interpersonal and environmental influences. The psychological well-being of gifted adolescents rarely serves as the main subject of research.Materials and methods: psychodiagnostic tools for studying the personal characteristics of gifted adolescents include testing using Ryff's Scales of Psychological Well-being in the adaptation of L. V. Zhukovskaya and E. G. Troyshinoy, The scale of self-efficacy M. Madduks and D. Scheer in the adaptation of L.V. Boyarintseva and R.L. Krichevsky, Frankfurt scale self-concept J.M. Doisinger in the adaptation of O.E. Baitinger, Test of Hardiness Survey, S. Muddy, in the adaptation of E.N. Asina and E.I. Rasskazova, the Subjecting Structure Diagnostic Questionnaire, Ye.N. Volkova and I.A. Seregina, Integrative Anxiety Test A.P. Bizyuka, L.I. Wasserman, B.V. Iovleva. The group of authors proposed a variant of the “Unfinished sentences” methodology and a questionnaire aimed at studying the various components of attitudes towards adolescents ’own endowments and problem load. Results: we have proposed and are testing a cross-sectional study of a methodical complex for diagnosing integrative indicators of psychological well-being, as well as such subjective factors of psychological well-being, such as attitudes toward one’s own endowments, subjectivity, hardiness, problem experiences, emotional background, self-concept and self-efficacy (components is allocated in accordance with the developed theoretical model). This complex includes both standardized and projective techniques.Discussion and Conclusions: the research methodology created and tested during the project will contribute to the formation of a unified methodological support and centralized coordination of monitoring research on the most common personal problems among gifted adolescents, as well as the development of effective programs for the development of psychological well-being and health resources for adolescents and young people.
