ABSTRACT: At present there is very little attention regarding visual impairment, especially in school children, whereas a poor learning environment is one of the triggers for a decrease in visual acuity in children. Myopia is one of the causes of decreased visual acuity in children, while good vision is very important in the teaching and learning process. This study aims to determine the relationship of family support in maintaining eye health with visual acuity in primary school-aged children in RW 10 Desa Kramat Jegu Taman Sidoarjo. The design of this research using a cros-sectional approach. The sample in this study were 22 elementary and sixth grade elementary school children and their mothers as many as 22 pairs. Sampling by total sampling method. Data analysis using Rank Spearman statistical test with a significance level of 5% (0.05). The results showed that of the 22 respondents most (61.18%) had good family support and from 22 respondents most (63.63%) had normal visual acuity. Spearman rank correlation test results, obtained ρ = 0.032 <α = 0.05 so that H0 is rejected which means that there is a relationship between family support about maintaining eye health with visual acuity in primary school-aged children. Good family support for maintaining eye health can improve children's visual acuity. It is expected that nurses can use the results of this study as a guide in providing nursing services for patients with eye refraction disorders. Keywords: family support, visual acuity

Introduction. Innovative teaching and learning systems involve intensification of the educational process and greater academic loads; it results in the exertion of adaptation systems in a body, especially when it comes to primary school children. Purpose of the study. Our research goal was to assess peculiarities of adaptation capabilities in primary school children who attended schools with different educational processes. Material and methods. To study peculiarities of adaptation capabilities in primary school children, we performed a clinical examination of 183 children (51.4% boys and 48.6% girls, the average age being 9.51±0.17) who attended a lyceum (group A), a school with advanced studies of physics and mathematics (Group B), and an ordinary secondary school (Group C). We also analyzed how intense educational loads were in all three educational establishments. Children’s adaptation capabilities were assessed as per functional parameters of their cardiovascular and vegetative nervous systems and catecholamines’ contents in blood. Results. The entry-level secondary schools tend to have more intense educational processes. We established that primary school children who attended a lyceum faced 1.5 times greater intellectual and sensory loads; children who attended a school with advanced studies of physics and mathematics had educational loads that were 1.3-1.4 times more monotonous than in other establishments; children who attended an ordinary school had to bear 1.8 times higher emotional loads. ⅔ primary school children had exertion of functional reserves in their cardiovascular system caused by a longer educational load duration. 36% of primary school children who attended a school with advanced studies of physics and mathematics had tension in their adaptation mechanisms caused by monotonous educational loads combined with lower noradrenalin contents in blood. Those children also ran up to 4.9 times higher risks of adaptation mechanism exertion. 48.5-56.7% of children who attended a lyceum and an ordinary school had vegetative imbalance that became apparent via activated adaptation-trophic influence promoted by the sympathetic section in the vegetative nervous systems and related to the duration of learning activities. Conclusion. Intensification of the educational process results in disorders of compensatory-adaptation mechanisms in primary school children.

Background: No consensus has ever been reached about the correlation between nasal resistance and the subjective sensation of nasal patency. The aim of the present study was to better de ne whether primary school and secondary school aged children correctly estimate their nasal obstruction. Materials and methods: Two hundred eighty four children (168 males and 116 female) aged between 6 and 14 years (9.5+2.9 years) affected by Pediatric Allergic Rhinitis underwent Rhinomanometry and they were considered as correctly estimating their nasal obstruction when the grade of nasal patency corresponded to the severity of the NOSE score, overestimating when the grade of nasal patency was <1 when compared to the severity of the score, underestimating when the grade of nasal patency was >1 when compared to the severity of the score. Results: Correlation between NOSE score and nasal patency was statistically significant (r -0.74; p<0.001). Children between 6 and 9 years of age underestimate (43.7%) and children >12 overestimate (34.7%) their symptoms more frequently than children among other age ranges (p<0.001). Conclusion: Although NOSE score approximately allow to quantify nasal obstruction, in children, especially between 6 and 9 years of age, an objective measurement of nasal patency should be performed to better define the therapeutic approach.

This article considers some of the ways in which computers and appropriate software can be used to encourage children to use language purposefully. It discusses the range of computer software that is available for Primary School children and suggests ways of incorporating such software into the various subject areas. While highlighting the valuable contribution that computers can make to the teaching and learning process in schools, the article stresses the need for the planned integration of computers and computer software into an overall curriculum strategy which has an evident cohesiveness and a continuity. The surest means by which children are enabled to master their mother tongue is by exploiting the process of discovery through language in all its uses. A Language for Life

Stroke is a symptom that occurs due to impaired blood circulation in the brain. Stroke diseases has the third death sequence in the world after heart disease and cancer. Good family support is needed in improving self-concept for stroke patients. This research which aims to determine the relationship of family support with self-concept in patients with stroke in Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan. The design used in research was analytic survey design using the “cross-sectional” with a sample of 34 respondents and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. The data were collected by questionnaires and held in April 2016. Data analysis using chi-square test with significance level of 5%. Results of the study revealed that good family support (55,9%) and negative self-concept (65,6%). The result of statistical test family support with self-concept value p=0,004 (p<0,05) It means there was significant relationship the family support with self-concept in stroke patients in Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan. It was expected to nurses improve service to patients, motivate and assistsick family members and nurses work with the famiies in maintaining self concept patients. As for the family was expected to pay attention to patients health condition, motivate sick family members by giving motivation to recover, and assisting the patient in the process of healing.

The beginning of children’s school education is a potential risk of morphofunctional and psycho-physiological disorders in the body because of the significant reduction in daily physical activity, the change in day regimen, emotional and intellectual stress, which are often inadequate for the age-related psycho-physiological capabilities of schoolchildren. In this paper, we analyzed the literature on the development of modern children of primary school age according to the results of the assessment of morphological, functional and mental indicators. The identification of a general trend in the development of primary school-aged children is necessary for determination and development of health-saving programs to implement in the system of modern education. A review of data on the development of younger school children over the past 20 years shows an increase in the number of children with digressions in physical development, deterioration in physical fitness, delay of biological age from actual age, stress of the cardiovascular system, decrease in lung capacity and muscle strength. This pattern is manifested regardless of the region of residence and the nationality of children. There is an increase in the number of children with learning difficulties. Among the reasons for these changes, researchers highlight the complexity of the educational program, physical inactivity, the delay of physical development and, at the same time, medical and social successes of the state, allowing preserving the life of newborns even with somatic and neurological abnormalities. In connection with the identified trend of development of modern primary school children, the measures are needed to optimize children’s learning activities by the following criteria: level of physical activity, intensity of intellectual loads, rest mode.

Background: The rate of incidence of physical assault on school children increases from year to year. Efforts to prevent child sexual violence can be done through school-based education with student empowerment.Objective: To identify the effect of education by peers on the knowledge and self-efficacy of primary school children in preventing sexual violence in Grabag Sub-district, Magelang regency.Methods: This study was a quasi experimental study with pretest and posttest non-equivalent control groups. A total of 84 school-aged children were purposively recruited from two different primary schools. Each group consisted of 42 respondents. Children's Knowledge of Abuse Questionnaire-Revised III (CKAQ-RIII) instrument was used to measure knowledge and self-efficacy questionnaire was measured for self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Chi-square testResults: The study showed that a statistically significant difference both in the variables of knowledge (P=0.008) and self-efficacy (p=0.000) in the intervention group after given peer education treatment.Conclusion: Educational interventions by peers can improve the knowledge and self-efficacy of primary school-aged children in preventing sexual violence. Peer education can be used as an effort to prevent sexual violence in children through school empowerment programs.
