Introduction: This project aimed to assess and optimise the treatment of all patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Methods: Consecutive patients discharged with a heart failure code (ICD-10) between April 2014 and July 2017 were included. The medical records were reviewed to ensure optimal medical therapy and in cases where this was not being received, a process of ‘active optimisation’ was initiated. Results: Out of 656 patients, 139 were identified as eligible for guideline-directed treatment, 129 (93%) of which were receiving optimal medical therapy. Of these, 47 (36%) were deemed to be optimised but were not on full guideline-directed therapy owing to contraindication, intolerance, comorbidities or non-compliance. Conclusion: The project data reflect real-world patients and practice and highlight a tension between guideline-based care and real-life (realistic) medicine.

This chapter talks about the best-selling author and native Chicagoan Scott Turow, who wrote “The Capital of Real Life” that characterized his hometown in Chicago in 1991. It analyzes Turow's admission that Chicago was not a sparkling, world-class city, but rather an unassuming home for average working-class people. The chapter describes the Chicago of 1991 as America's foremost second-class city that could not compete with the glamour, jive, and winning of first-class New York City and Los Angeles. It highlights how Chicago became a key player in the increasingly global economy after 25 years, frequently serving as the conduit between Chicago-based U.S. corporations and partners in Europe and Asia. It also mentions the new international stature that led to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that convened a summit in Chicago in 2012, the first U.S. city to ever host the international meeting other than Washington, D.C.

Creative writing students’ experience of their own creative process within the context of the Tracking creative creatures project: a narrative analysis First-year students in Creative Writing at the North-West University took part in an interdisciplinary investigation into the creative process, which posed certain creative challenges to them. The students’ reaction to the project indicated that they experienced the assignment as challenging and enriching. This article investigates the question whether the narrative analysis of students’ personal reports on the creative process can contribute to a better understanding of the individual experience, the project, and the creative process as such. A framework for analysis was developed against the theoretical background of contextual approaches to creativity, practice-based research and the method of narrative analysis. Amabile’s componential framework of creativity served as a basis for the framework to investigate the three levels of the narrative (form, content and context). The article discusses the project, collection of data, theoretical framework and research procedures, and illustrates and discusses the application and value of narrative analysis of students’ reports with reference to identified themes and selected examples.

ABSTRACT Several oil spill remote sensing flights were conducted by Environment Canada off the Southern coast of Newfoundland, Canada in late February, early March 2004. These flights were undertaken to demonstrate the capabilities of the Scanning Laser Environmental Airborne Fluorosensor (SLEAF) in real-life situations in the North Atlantic and Newfoundland coastal regions in late winter weather conditions. Geo-referenced infrared, ultraviolet, color video and digital still imagery was collected along with the laser fluorosensor data. Brief testing of a Generation III night vision camera was also conducted. Flights were conducted in the shipping lanes around the Newfoundland coast, out to the Hibernia and Terra Nova oil platforms and over known oil seep areas. Details of the analysis of laser fluorescence data collected during these flights will be presented along with a summary of the remote sensing flights.

AbstractA number of Tursiops truncatus mandibles in the collection of fossil marine mammals in the Rotterdam Natural History Museum have marks consisting of several parallel linear grooves. These marks are also found on four atlas complexes, a scapula and on one vertebra. The hypothesis that they are bite marks and were caused by scavenging rays (Rajidae, Chondrichthyes) was tested with a real-life experiment using different shark and ray species, allowing them to scavenge on cow ribs as proxies for the dolphin bones. The bite marks of these animals were compared with the fossil marks and show that the fossil marks are most likely caused by scavenging rays.

The study was done in March 2020 in Dusun Gojang Utara, Bontomarannu Village, Bontomanai Sub-district, Selayar Islands District, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, aiming at exploring the opportunity and feasibility of “Kenari Forest” as a tourist attraction. A descriptive-status approach was used in this study that was sought to answer questions about real-life situations, and in addition, the scoring of potential tourism object/attraction utilized the 2003 ADO-ODTWA Guideline. Overall, Dusun Gojang Utara has a high potency as a community-based tourism destination, although there are four criteria needed improvement, nanely: accessibility, surrounding conditions, management and services, and climate. Unfortunately, Dusun Gojang Utara as a tourist village is yet to be the priority of the local government,. Indeed, as part of the Bontomarannu Village, this dusun is included as an agro-tourism development area, but the potential of this dusun is not for agro-tourism, instead its tourism attraction resides in the local livelihood itself.
