The transformation process occurring in the educational field, which has resulted from the generalized development and application of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), differs from preceding technological revolutions in the amazingly accelerated pace it sets. Reflecting upon the implications of the generalized and increasing adoption of ICT is undeniably important for the present and future of social sciences and, particularly, for the areas of pedagogy and didactics. The new model of Higher Education involves new methods, demands and challenges, where the use of ICT represents one of the basic competences. The present study aims to provide an evaluation of interests and attitudes towards Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in a sample of 224 post-graduate students of the Master's Degree in Teacher Training: Secondary and Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching, aged from 22 to 49 years old. The questionnaire includes questions aimed to evaluate different aspects, which facilitate interactive learning: computer knowledge; knowing the value of the Internet; place and frequency of online access; and usefulness of certain tools such as video-film, power point, Moodle, forums, wikis, chats, video-forums and blogs. Additionally, the questionnaire includes a number of questions about the potential applications of the Internet in an educational context. Results showed that all students are familiar with the Internet and that they first got to know it from friends. More important is the fact that most of them consider the Internet as a potential educational resource and not only as a support or reinforcement tool that complements the textbook and they like to use ICT and think of them as useful tools in their learning/teaching process. There are differences based on gender and specialization in the perception of the role that ICT is to play in the university context. In particular, men from the specialization Foreign Language consider that weblogs do facilitate peer-to-peer and student-teacher communication and give less importance than women to the item stating that the families’ socioeconomic level has an influence on our knowledge of the Internet. To conclude, the information obtained from the present study is of interest both for training teachers and for integrating ICT in the academic curricula. The fact that the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) is a key factor of development of individuals, regions, sectors and whole countries is well known at the beginning of the 21st century. The real situation of ICT utilization is very different in particular sections and it fails to reach standards that we would expect. The sphere of the agrarian sector of the Czech Republic is a very good example. The Information and Consulting Centre FEM at the University of Agriculture in Prague (IPC) has been participating on research of the utilization ICT in agriculture for three years. According to the latest data from July 2002, 55% of agrarian enterprises are connected to the Internet, which is much less than in other sectors.

This is Gary Bunt’s second monograph on the Muslims’ use of the Internet,the first being Virtually Islamic (Cardiff, UK: The University of Wales Press:2000). It is a good contribution to the growing literature, and will appeal tostudents of contemporary Muslim societies and the sociocultural and religiousinfluence of new communication technologies. The book provides auseful list of websites containing information on Islam and Muslims.Bunt suggests that a substantial number of Muslims use the Internet asa propagation and networking tool, to dialogue with each other, and to conductresearch. For some, it is an important way to bypass state censorshipand access other media, and it acts as a means of local and global contact.The Internet is used to disseminate and obtain decisions and points of interpretationon current events, and, for some individuals who are relativelyunknown or treated as pariahs locally, to achieve fame in the larger ummah.Since September 2001, Muslims’ activities and activism on the Internethave proliferated; meanwhile, those in power have increased attempts torestrict them. There has been an increase in websites, chat rooms, and e-maillists. The author justifies linking Muslims’ uses of the Internet with jihad andfatwas by stating that these two areas have seen the most significant integrationof electronic activity with religion. However, he shuns alarmism aboutthe Internet and Islam by presenting a rational analysis and discussion.Bunt admits that a small, albeit growing, minority in Muslim-majoritycountries uses information and communication technologies. Muslim onlinediscourses are part of the contemporary discussion about Islamic identities.The Internet “has not superseded traditional forms of political expression, butis a means through which conventional boundaries and barriers can be transcended”(p. 11).

<p>XXI century society has a multimodal nature and it is referred as 2.0 era, in which the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is essential. This implies that tertiary education needs to be adapted to this context and, therefore it is necessary to highlight multimodal teaching in University classrooms thanks to <em>Power Point</em> or <em>Prezi</em> presentations, the use of videos or social networks such as <em>Facebook</em> or <em>Twitter</em>, the use of <em>google</em> tools, etc. This article describes some activities that promote multimodality used in the subject English Language V of the degree in English Studies at the University of Alicante. The selection of activities is determined not only for its multimodal nature but also because they contribute to the acquisition of competences that are essential for the labour market. El proceso de transformaciones en el campo educativo surgido a partir del desarrollo y aplicación generalizada de las TIC, tiene de diferente, sobre las revoluciones tecnológicas precedentes, el ritmo asombrosamente acelerado que impone. Es de innegable importancia para las ciencias sociales, y para el campo de la pedagogía y la didáctica en particular, reflexionar sobre las implicaciones que la adopción generalizada y creciente de las TIC tiene sobre su presente y su futuro. Este estudio intenta establecer no solamente las implicaciones formalmente previsibles –de primer orden–  en cuanto a eficacia y eficiencia, resultantes del uso de las TIC en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, sino hasta dónde esta función tiende a transformar roles –implicaciones de segundo orden– de los actores, incluidos los docentes y la institucionalidad de la que hacen parte, además del grado de conciencia que existe sobre tales fenómenos. La investigación busca evidenciar cuál es el uso de las TIC en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras a partir del análisis del discurso de docentes universitarios. No se presenta una aplicación lineal del método de análisis del discurso de Teun Van Dijk: sino una adaptación, aplicando su esquema conceptual más en el orden de lo institucional-pedagógico que en el orden gramatical. Reflecting upon the implications of the generalized and increasing adoption of ICT is undeniably important for the present and future of social sciences and, particularly, for the areas of pedagogy and didactics. This study does not only attempt to establish those implications formally foreseeable in terms of efficacy and effectiveness resulting from the use of ICT to teach foreign languages –first order, but also to determine how much this function tends to transform the roles of participants –second order implications. The latter includes the teachers, the institution they belong to and the degree of awareness existing upon those phenomena. The research study aims at making evident what the use of ICT for language teaching is as seen from a critical discourse analysis of the university professors’ speech. It does not show a direct application of Teun Van Dijk’s discourse analysis method, but rather an adaptation which emphasizes the implementation of the conceptual framework in institutional-pedagogic terms than in grammar terms, therefore highlighting the analysis of the binary relationships existing between discourse and cognition and pragmatics and ideology.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are key to create sustainable higher education institutions (HEIs). Most researchers focused on the students’ perspective, especially during the online teaching caused by COVID-19; however, university teachers are often forgotten, having their opinion missing. This study’s objective was to determine the factors that contribute to the inclusion of ICTs. The research based on a comparative study through an online qualitative survey focused on the inclusion and use of ICTs in two HEIs and two different moments (pre-and post-lockdowns). There were differences regarding country and working experience (p < 0.001), being linked to the ICTs use, evaluation of obstacles, and the role given to ICTs (p < 0.05). The COVID-19 caused modifications of the teachers’ perspectives, including an improvement of the opinion of older teachers regarding the essentialness of ICTs in the teaching process (p < 0.001) and worsening their perception about their ICTs skill (p < 0.05). Additionally, an initial model focused only on the university teachers and their use of ICTs has been proposed. In conclusion, the less experienced university teachers used more ICTs, identified more greatly the problematic factors, and considered more important the ICTs, with the perception of all teachers modified by COVID-19.

Beside the fact that the Internet was not primarily educational network (it didn’t emerge from the intention to be systematically used in the field of education), shortly after it emerged, possibilities of its application in education were recognised. This paper is dedicated to analysis of the most important chronological moments (technological and social in the first place) that were crucial in sense of comprehensive application of the Internet in service of education in general, but also in service of adult education. Having all mentioned in focus, in more details, we analysed emergence and development of the Internet observed as educational computer network in frame of general development of information and communication technologies. While realising mentioned analysis, our focus was on four historical periods of educational computer technologies. We also intended to emphasize the activities of international institutions that followed, encouraged and supported the development of the Internet use and the use of other information and communication technologies in the field of education. According to that, we distinguished the main moments referring activities of these organisations which describe in the best manner their contributions to growing application of the Internet in education in general, but also in adult education.

The development of the modern world is very complex and rapid, and the process is characterized by high rates of development of information and communication technologies. The Internet space is a means of searching and obtaining information, as well as a medium for communication, virtual interaction, and has a significant impact on the formation of stereotypes of behavior of the young generation, as well as ideals, spiritual values, personal and social worldview. The article identifies the positive aspects of the development of cyberspace by young people, and also notes the threats and barriers to cyber socialization for modern youth. The necessity of conducting psychological and pedagogical research on cyber socialization is actualized, a conclusion is made about the use of new technologies for the purpose of positive cyber socialization of the younger generation.
