Two experiments were conducted with a view to assessing the effects of stocking densities on the growth and breeding performance and larval growth and survival of Channa striatus. The first one was carried out with a view to find a suitable stocking density of Channa striatus at which they could spawn while the second experiment dealt with the effect of stocking density on growth and survival of the produced larvae. The first experiment was carried out in nine equal-sized chambers of raceway separated by netted wooden frame with an area of 1.83 ×1.12m2 each. The effective water depth in each of the raceway chambers was maintained at 1.2m. The broodfish were stocked at 4 (357.22g/m2), 6 (541.78g/m2) and 8 (719.18g/m2) at 1:1 male-female ratio and fed with washed and chopped poultry viscera twice a day and with live silver carp fry twice a week. No significant (P>0.05) difference in weight and specific growth rate was observed among the broodfish reared under different stocking densities during the experimental period of 80 days. The broodfish stocked at a density of 357.22g/m2 and 541.78g/m2 spawned naturally in their respective chambers. The fish stocked at 541.78g/m2 showed the best breeding performance. The second experiment was carried out with 4-5 days old larvae in 9 bowls of 10l capacity divided into three treatments having 20, 40 and 60 larvae each i.e. the stocking density were of 2, 4 and 6 larvae/l respectively. Larvae of treatment I which was stocked with 2 larvae/l showed significantly higher growth rate from the 7th day of the experiment and maintained the same trend up to the end of the experiment (i.e. 21st day) compared to other treatments. Larvae of treatment I also showed significantly higher health condition (13.31±0.69mg/mm) and survival rate (80.00±3.00) compared to those of the other two. <p>This experiment was conducted to study the stocking density effect on growth and survival rate of giant gouramy seed in the aquarium. Fish were stocked at the density of 2.5; 5.0; 7.5 and 10 individual/l with average initial weight and length were 0.013 g and 5.56 mm, respectively. Fish were fed with silkworm (<em>Tubifex</em> sp.) <em>ad libitum</em> in the morning and evening for 22 days of experiment. Aquarium was siphoned and water was changed everyday for maintaining good water quality. Result showed that survival rate remain high in all treatment (93.5 - 95.5%). Increasing stocking density from 2.5 to 10 individual/I did not affect survival rate. On the other hand growth rate and feed efficiency decreased, while fish yield increased. Stocking density of 2,5 individual/l gave  the highest daily growth rate, individual growth rate, growth in length and feed efficiency of 12.94%, 0.0081 g/day, 16.84 mm and 12.51%; respectively. The highest value for fish yield (0,0360 g/l/day) was obtained from stocking density of 10 individual/l</p> <p>Key words: stocking density, seed, survival rate, growth rate, giant gouramy <em>Osphrenemus goramy</em></p> <p> </p> <p>ABSTRAK</p> <p>Keterbatasan pengadaan benih ikan gurame (<em>Osphronemus gourame </em>Lac.) disebabkan oleh tidak seimbangnya jumlah benih yang tersedia dengan kebutuhan usaha pembesaran.

This research aimed to determine the optimal dosage of potassium diformate addition to commercial feed in order to increase the growth and survival rate of common carp seeds. The method used in this research was experimental in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and four replications. The treatments used were A (control), B with addition of potassium diformate (0.2%), C (0.3%), D (0.4%), and E (0.5%). For test fish, there were 200 of Common carp seeds with a size of 2-3 cm. The media used was 20 aquariums with a size of 40x30x40 cm3 and a stocking density of 10 individuals/aquarium. The rearing period was 35 days and the amount of feed given was 3% of the fish body weight. The parameters observed included water quality (temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen) which were observed every 7 days for 35 days. Other parameters  monitored were daily growth rate, survival rate, feed efficiency, and the acidity level of the intestine. The results showed that 0.3% addition of potassium diformate gave the best results with a daily growth rate value of 3.21%, highest survival of 98%, efficiency of feed utilization of 64.83%, and a decrease in intestinal pH which helped the process of protein absorption in the fish body. In conclution, the addition of potassium diformate has good effect on growth and survival rates of common carp.

This study examined the effect of stocking density on growth and survival of tilapia cultured in biofloc technology system. Three different stocking densities cultured in biofloc technology were 6 fish/m3, 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 for 86 days in triplicate for each treatment. The stocking density of the control lot was 3 fish/m3 cultured without biofloc technology. Initial stocking weight ranged from 2–3 g/fish. The water quality parameters were monitored and regulated in the suitable ranges for biofloc technology and for the growth and development of tilapia. The results showed that specific growth rate of fish cultured at a density of 6 fish/m3 was higher than that in the treatments of 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 with the average values of 5.72%; 5.62% and 5.43%, respectively, and the specific growth rate of fish in the control treatment was 5.71%. Daily growth rate of fish cultured at a density of 6 fish/m3 was higher than that cultured at densities of 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 with average values of 3.19 g/day, 2.98 g/day, and 2.55 g/day, respectively; and the daily growth rate of the control treatment was 3.27 g/day. Survival rate of tilapia cultured at densities of 6 fish/m3 and 8 fish/m3 was 100%, whereas survival rate of tilapia cultured at a density of 10 fish/m3 was 95.75%, and it was 88.9% for the control lot. The research results provide a scientific basis to propose tilapia culture technique in biofloc technology in brackish water, with the density of 6–8 fish/m3.

One of the freshwater fishes thatbegan to bedeveloped is Wader fish, but there is still a lot of information that has notbeen supportedon fish farming techniques. One of them is the optimal stocking density for cultivation. The purpose of this study was to study the effects of different stocking densities on the growth and survival rates of the WaderCakulfish (Puntiusbinotatus). This research was conductedin May - July 2018. The method used in this study was to use aCompletely Randomized Design with 4 training, namely P1 (2 fish/liter), P2 (3 fish/liter), P3 (4 fish/liter) and P4 (5 fish/liter).Each treatment was repeated3 times. The main parameters were absolute growth rate (length and weight gain)(GR), specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), and feed conversion ratio (FCR).Data were analyzedusing ANOVA (analysis of variance) and continued with the Least Significant Difference Test. The results showed that different stocking densities gave significant values (P <0.05) for GR, SGR, SR and FCR comparisons. The best treatment in this study was P1 with a growth value of 0.31 ± 0.01 gram, SGR 3.50 ± 0.03%, Long Growth 1.97 ± 0.05 cm, SR 85.07 ± 2.17% and FCR 1.47 ± 0.02. P1 (2 fish/liter) is the best maintenance to increase the growth, survival rate, and feed efficiency of thecakulwader fish.

Ocean-based nursery system using floating hapa have proved to be the best option for raising early sandfish juveniles. However, the nursery system can be further improved by providing key information that will support their application. The present study provides information on the effect of stocking density on growth and survival of sandfish juveniles reared in floating hapa (1 x 0.5 x 1 m). Three densities were tested, 100, 200 and 400 early juveniles (5 mm; 0.093 g) per hapa net in a randomized set-up. Initial density of 100 and 200 showed significant higher growth rate and final size (0.082–0.074 g/day; 3.76–3.42 g) compared to 400 (0.045 ± 0.002 g/day; 2.11 ± 0.07 g). Moreover, at 100 and 200 densities, > 95% of all juveniles attained release size (2 g) and only 74% for 400 density after 45 days of rearing. Sandfish juveniles showed negative allometric growth and their survival did not display any pattern (100 = 91%; 200 = 35%; 400 = 51.3%). The coefficient of variation for weight of juveniles showed strong positive relationship with initial density (R2 = 0.99, p = 0.039) with CV values of (100 = 48.6%; 200 = 49.8%; 400 = 50.1%). It is therefore concluded that, 100 stocking density should be opted for optimum results, however, 200 can also be considered provided that, the survival is improved.   Keywords: Sea cucumber; Ocean-based Nursery; Stocking density; Survival rate; Growth rate

ABSTRACT The development of lobster farming in floating net cage in Ekas Bay caused an environmental degradation such as decrease water quality due to some aquaculture wastes. The purposes of this study were to determine the status of water quality and their effect on growth and survival rate of lobster reared in floating net cages (FNC) in the Ekas Bay, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Water sample collection and handling referred to the APHA (1992). Analyses of water quality data were conducted using Principal Component Analysis. Determination of the water quality status of Ekas Bay was performed with STORET system. Multivariate analyses were used to determine the relationship between water quality, growth, and survival rate of lobster reared in FNC. Results showed that Ekas Bay water quality status was categorized in class C (medium contaminated), which exceeded some quality standard parameters such as ammonia (0.3 mg/l), nitrate (0.008 mg/l), and phosphate (0.015 mg/l). During lobster farming activities feeding with trash fish for 270 days, we obtained daily growth rate of  0.74% (lower than normal growth rate of 0.86%), survival rate of 66% (lower than normal survival rate of 86.7%), and feed conversion ratio of 11.15. Ammonia was found as a dominant factor reducing growth  and survival rate of lobster reared in FNC. Keywords: water quality, lobsters, growth, survival, Ekas Bay
