Different varieties of carrot and growing conditions of stecklings showed highly significant influence all most all the parameters studied. The highest seed yield (1321.53 kg/ha) was recorded from Brasilia Agroflora and the quality of seed (germination 83.20% and seed vigour index 12.21) was produced from the same variety, while the lowest seed yield (1193.70 kg/ha) and germination (79.42%) were obtained from New Kuroda. The net covered stecklings were recorded the highest seed yield (1495.33 kg/ha) and the quality of seed (germination 86.93% and seed vigour index 13.17) was produced from the same condition, while the lowest seed yield (1047.14 kg/ha) and germination (75.77%) were obtained from polythene covered stecklings. In case of combined effect, the highest seed yield (1576.07 kg/ha) was recorded from Brasilia Agroflora with net covered stecklings and that of the lowest (1000.10 kg/ha) from New Kuroda with polythene covered stecklings.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jesnr.v5i2.14834 J. Background: Black gram is the important pulses crop, grown throughout the country; gives low seed yield mainly due to poor management and low soil fertility. Development of suitable technology is essential to enhance productivity. Seed priming is one such effective technology which enhance rapid and uniform emergence to achieve high vigour, leading to better stand establishment and yield. The current research aimed to study micronutrient seed priming and rhizobium coating on seed germination, seedling vigour, crop growth and seed yield in black gram.Methods: Blackgram seeds were primed with 10 different micronutrient solutions with different concentrations and evaluated for its quality parameters to find out suitable seed priming technique. Seeds from two best priming treatments were coated with rhizobium @ 30g/kg of seed and evaluated for its production potential and resultant seed quality under field condition.Result: Seed priming with 0.5% ZnSO4 at 1/3rd seed to solution ratio for 3 hours recorded higher germination (96%) and vigour index (3811) than control which recorded 84% seed germination and 2528 of vigour index under laboratory experiment. Field experiments revealed that, seeds primed with 0.5% ZnSO4 and coated with rhizobium @ 30g per kg of seeds improved seed yield by 13.2% over control.

An experiment was carried to find out the effect of sowing dates and cutting time on seed yield and quality of alfalfa cv. RL-88. The results of the experiment revealed that, the significantly higher seed yield per plant (1.491 g), seed yield per plot (161.07 g) and seed yield (355.00 kg ha-1) was noticed in 15th August sowing and the cutting carried out at 60 days after sowing. Whereas, the seed quality parameters of the resultant seeds viz., highest seed germination (95.00 %), seedling length (13.90 cm), seedling dry weight (412.69 mg) and seedling vigour index (1320) found highest in15th August sowing and the cutting followed at 60 days after sowing.

The hypothesis that by increasing carrot (Daucus carota) plant density the contribution to seed yield by the primary umbels would increase, and that therefore both seed yield and seed quality would increase, was examined in two experiments in different years in Canterbury. A radial trial design provided plant densities from 2 to 84 plants/m2 and from 4 to 100 plants/m2 in experiments one and two respectively. Seed yield increased with increasing plant density in both experiments, and at the highest density the primary umbels contributed 90% (experiment one) and 60% (experiment two) of the seed yield. In both experiments seeds from the primary umbels had a greater thousand seed weight and higher germination than those from the other order umbels, and for the second experiment they also had higher seed vigour. The quality of seeds from the primary umbels was consistently higher than that of seeds from the secondary umbels across all plant densities, and for the latter, both germination and seed vigour declined as plant density increased. These results therefore support the hypothesis, and densities higher than the 20 plants/m2 currently used commercially have the potential to increase both seed yield and quality. Sixteen diverse genotypes of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) were grown in five (E1 to E5) environments which were created by different date of sowing during the rabi seasons at the Vegetable Farm of CCS HAU, Hisar. (29°15ˈN, 75°69ˈE) during 2012-13. Observations were recorded on ten randomly selected plants from each genotypes in each replications for characters viz. field emergence index, days to 50 % flowering, plant height, number of pods per plant, number of branches per plant, number of seeds per pod, pod length, seed yield (q/ha), test weight, seed germination, seed vigour index-I and II. The estimation of genotypic and phenotypic coefficients (GCV and PCV) variation in all the environments was consistently decreasing with the delaying in sowing date for all the character studied except plant height and test weight indicating that the environmental influence was comparatively more pronounced for these characters in expressing the phenotypic performance of different genotypes. Highest GCV and PCV was estimated as 50.36 % and 55.93 %, respectively for seed vigour index-I in E1. High value of heritability estimated for characters seed yield, seed vigour index-II, seed germination and branches per plant (above 70 %) in E1 revealed that these were less influenced by environment and low heritability estimated for days to 50 % flowering in E2, plant height in E2, seeds per pod in E3, field emergence index in E5 indicated high influence of environment. Based on environmental indices, the environment E2 was most favourable for all the characters studied except field emergence index.

An experiment was conducted at the research field of Jute Research Regional Station of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) at Kishoreganj during August 2009 to January 2010 to assess the effect of cutting length and position of cutting on seed yield and quality of tossa jute (Corchorus olitorius L.). Three cutting lengths (15 cm, 20 cm and 25cm) and three cutting positions (1st top, 2nd top and 3rd top) were the treatments. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The highest seed yield (917 kg ha-1) was obtained from 1st top x 15cm interaction and the lowest (811 kg ha-1) was recorded in 3rd top x 25cm cutting length. The highest seed germination (89%), field emergence (87%) and accelerated ageing (73%) were recorded from 1st top x 15cm interaction and the lowest seed germination (83.00%), field emergence (81%) and accelerated ageing (72) were recorded in 3rd top x 25 cm cutting length. The results of three-year studies of the influence of seed sowing rates and sowing methods on the formation of yield capacity and quality of chickpea seeds are highlighted. The results of the research indicate a significant influence of the studied factors on the level of yield capacity of chickpea seeds. On average, for three years of research, the highest seed yield capacity in the experiment has been observed in the variety Odyssey – 2,16 t/ha. Among the studied variants of the sowing method, the highest rates of chickpea seed yield capacity have been provided by the row method with a row spacing of 30 cm (with a nutrition area of one plant of 120 cm2) at the average sowing rate of 0,7 million units/ha. In particular, the yield capacity of chickpea seeds of Budjak and Odyssey varieties under this combination of the studied factors made up 2,37 and 2,49 t/ha, respectively. The maximum protein content in chickpea seeds in both studied varieties has been obtained on the variants with a minimum seeding rate of 0,5 million units/ha, but the highest protein yield – 0,415 t/ha of Odyssey variety and 0,435 t/ha of Budjak variety - was noted on the variants with a seeding rate of 0,7 million units/ha. Environmental contamination and the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers resulting in stagnant yields of field crops which necessitate the utilization of combined fertilization approach under changing climatic conditions. Current study was aimed to clarify the influence of several fertilizer sources (chemical, organic, organomineral fertilizers) on yield and quality of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.). The results revealed that the fertilizer sources significantly affected the yield of coriander cultivars. The absence of “Year x Variety x Fertilizer Type” interactions for any of the noted parameters signaled that the detected “Variety x Fertilizer Type” interactions were constant regardless of the year factor. The recorded values of traits according to fertilizer sources different for the plant height from 61.85 to 69.67 cm, number of branches from 5.98 to 7.71 (piece/plant), number of umbels per the main umbel from 5.62 to 7.18 pieces, seed yield from 1.06 to 1.66 t/ha, the biological yield from 4.29 to 5.70 t ha−1, harvest index from 25.29 to 29.41%, essential oil ratio from 0.29 to 0.33%, and essential oil yield from 3.1 to 5.6 L ha−1. Erbaa variety was observed to be superior over the rest of the varieties producing the maximum values of 6.5 L ha−1 of essential oil, 0.36% essential oil content, 30.9% harvest index, 1.81 t/ha seed yield, and 5.9 t ha−1 biological yield with the treatment of chemical fertilizers.
