Fifteen strawberry germplasm collected from local and exotic sources were evaluated for different qualitative and quantitative characters. The germplasm showed variation for majority of the studied traits. Plant height during peak harvest ranged from 14.67 to 25.00 cm and FA 007 exhibited the tallest plants. The maximum number of leaves plant-1 was produced by FA 006 (46.67). The maximum number of runners plant-1 was obtained in FA 003 (68.67) followed by FA 004 (63.00), while the highest number of crown plant-1 was found in FA 007 (15.33) followed by FA 006 (14.67). Days to flowering varied from 48.33 to 102.30 among the germplasm and FA 008 required minimum (48.33) days for flowering. The germplasm FA 004 produced the highest number of flower trusses (35.50 plant-1) while it was the lowest in FA 010 (5.00 plant-1). The number of flowers plant-1 was found maximum in FA 003 (168.00 plant-1) and minimum in FA 010 (40.00 plant-1). Among the germplasm pollen viability varied significantly and maximum viable pollen was recorded in FA 010 (84 %), while it was lowest in FA 004 (12.00 %). The highest per cent fruit set was recorded in BARI Strawberry-1 (86 %) while, FA 013 (39 %) showed the lowest. Among the germplasm the highest yield plant-1 was recorded from FA 005 (737.70 g) followed by FA 006 (702.30 g) and was significantly higher than others while the lowest yield plant-1 was recorded from FA 013 (52.00 g), FA 014 (69.00 g), FA 009 (81.33 g) and FA 010 (121.30 g). An experiment was carried out using eight double cross F1s (DCF1s) as lines and two testers to obtain sixteen Line ×Tester hybrids for the evaluation of major growth and flowering traits thereby to understand the breeding potentiality of the parental lines. The performance of growth and flowering traits of all twenty-six genotypes were evaluated in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed all the genotypes were significantly different for all agro-morphological traits under study. The estimated general combining ability (GCA) effects showed that parent 5(P5), were superior for plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf length, days to flowering and attitude of floral axis followed by parent 2(P2) for leaf length, leaf width, days to flowering and attitude of floral axis and parent7 (P7) for number of flower, flower diameter, bud length and attitude for floral axis. Likewise; tester 1 found to be best combiner with significant GCA effect for almost all growth and flowering traits (except number of leaves). The plant height, leaf width, number of flower and attitude of floral axis showed prevailing additive gene action while stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf length, days to flowering, flower diameter and bud length indicated predominance of dominance gene action. We can conclude that parent P5, parent P2 and parent P7 can be used as good mother lines and the tester 1, as good donor for the seed production. SAARC J. Agri., 17(1): 175-187 (2019)

A field experiment was conducted during the Rabi season 2017–2018 (October–March) at the University of Agriculture, Peshawar research farm to examine the influence of different nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) levels on two different oat varieties: Australian and Ukrainian. The treatments included control and three levels of nitrogen and phosphorus at 30, 60, and 90 kg ha−1. The treatments were arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated three times. The findings showed that the oat varieties were significantly different from one another in yield and yield parameters. The Australian variety recorded higher emergence (49 plants m−2), days to emergence (15 days), days to flowering (122 days), days to maturity (145 days), plant height (142.7 cm), number of leaves (6.03 leaves plant−1), number of tillers (92.2 tillers m−1), biological yield (8,179.2 kg ha−1), and grain yield (3,725.6 kg ha−1) than the Ukrainian variety. Similarly, different N and P levels, the maximum days to emergence, days to flowering, and days to maturity were recorded in a control plot. The application of 105 kg N + 90 kg P ha−1 was statistically similar to the application of 105 kg N + 60 kg P ha−1. Maximum emergence (60 plants m−2), number of leaves (7.0 leaves plant−1), plant height (118.6 cm), number of tillers m−1 (102.6), biological yield (9,687.5 kg ha−1), and grain yield (4,416.7 kg ha−1) were determined in Australian variety. Based on the findings of this study, the Australian variety performed better in terms of yield and yield components and the application of N and P fertilizers at the rate of 105 kg N + 60 kg P ha−1 produced the best results in both oat varieties.

A study was carried out to determine the association between different quantitative characters of eighteen genotypes of tuberose cultivars single. The highest positive and significant association was recorded for spike yield with plant height (0.33), rachis length (0.30), number of florets per spike (0.34), weight of single floret (0.63), matured bud weight (0.66), duration of flowering (0.52). The results of path coefficient analysis indicated that the weight of the floret (1.48) had very high positive direct effect on spike yield per plant followed by length of the floret (0.84) number of florets per spike (0.45) and duration of flowering (0.41). Spike length (0.27) had moderate positive direct effect. Plant height (0.16) and number of leaves (0.17) showed low positive direct effect and rest of the characters had negligible positive direct effect on spike yield per plant. The results of the study indicates that the above mentioned characters can be used for the improvement of tuberose.

In the Spring and Fall 2006, the pollen viability of four diploid watermelon pollenizers was evaluated in Quincy, FL. Triploid watermelon plants [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai.] do not produce sufficient viable pollen to pollenize themselves and a diploid cultivar must be interplanted as a pollen source. Recent studies have illustrated differences in triploid watermelon yields as a result of the pollenizer cultivar used. The viability of the pollen produced by pollenizer cultivars may greatly influence the fruit set and fruit quality in the triploid watermelon crop. Pollen samples were taken from ‘Companion’, ‘Jenny’, ‘Mickylee’, and ‘SP-1’ and were stained to determine their viability. There were no significant differences in pollen viability among cultivars and all cultivars had high average viability. Pollen viability was never lower than 95% for any cultivar. This study indicates that pollen viability of the cultivars evaluated should not influence their effectiveness as pollenizers.

SUMMARYSimple, partial and multiple correlations, as well as regression coefficients, were worked out for 14 quantitative characters in a collection of 42 sesame varieties grown for two consecutive seasons. Total number of seeds per plant, number of pods per plant, plant height, height to the first pod and days to flowering and maturity, gave positive and highly significant correlation coefficients with yield and with one another. Partial regression and partial correlations indicated that the number of pods per plant and plant height are important yield-contributing characters.

Cabai (Capsicum annuum L.) have various in fruit shapes, fruit colors, fruit types, hot tasty and biochemical compound useful for fresh fruit, spicy and ornamental plant. Ornamental chili ideotype that are dwarf, high fruit set and various fruit colors. The aim this study to improve description characters in Ayesha IPB variety, both qualitative and quantitative characters. The testers are 4 released varieties and 5 the other genotypes in randomized complete block design for 4 replication in green house at Leuwikopo field reserch in Darmaga, Bogor. Ayesha IPB variety showed early flower in 13-16 days after planting, harvesting for commercial bucket in 65-70 days after planting, medium plant high that is 25.218 cm, medium canopy width that is 46-53 cm, good performance in canopy, round shape on fuit tip, various fuit colors that are  yellow green for young fruit, orange for intermediate fuit and orange red for mature of fruit. Those description characters could be ornamental chili for Ayesha, so it is important to protect the plant for ornamental plant commercialization.Key word : fruit, color, red,  round, orange, ornamental

The experiment has been conducted in the nursery of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Design, College of Agriculture, the University of Basrah to study the effect of Spraying foliar of the biostimulants Izomen and Humus on the growth and flowering of Freesia plants. The corms in similar size were planted in pots with a diameter and height of 25 cm, which filled with 2.5 kg of sterilized loam soil. After 50 days of planting, the plants sprayed with Humus at 0, 1.5, 2.5 ml L-1 and after five days sprayed with Izomen at 0, 1.5, 2.5 ml L-1 The different concentrations of biostimulants are sprayed three times, the period between one spray and another 15 is days. The results showed that the spraying of Humus at 2.5 ml L-1 significantly increased the plant height, the number of leaves and the leaf content of chlorophyll recorded (29.56 cm, 8.33 and 58.43%) respectively. Moreover, it is recorded early the flowering date (130 days), and the highest flowering mean is (2.12 inflorescence/plant) and the highest period of the remained flowers on the plant and the vase life (10 and 8 days) respectively. The effects of both Humus and Izomen were similar. In addition to the highest mean of their interaction at 2.5 ml L -1for all the studied traits.

The study aimed to determine the effect of the combination of city waste compost and cattle manure on the growth and yield of pakcoy plants (Brassica rapa, L. Chinensis) in Aluvial, Indramayu Regency. The study was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Wiralodra University, Indramayu Regency from March to August 2018. This study used Factorial Pattern Randomized Block Design with two factors. The first factor is city waste compost and the second factor is cattle manure with 4 levels: 0%, 3.0%, 6.0%, and 9.0%, repeated twice. The results showed that there was an independent influence between city waste compost and cattle manure on plant height and number of leaves. The best combination to increase the feasibility weight of pakcoy consumption is by giving city waste compost 9.0% (S4) and cattle manure 6.0% (K3).

This study aims to determine the effect of trimming with a wide variety of growing media hydroponic system fertigation on growth and yield of melon. Research will be conducted in the green house (House of plastic) UMSIDA Agriculture Faculty, Campus 2, Gelam, Candi, Sidoarjo, research time between the months of March to June 2016 using analysis of variance and continued test HSD 5%. The variables measured were plant height, leaf number, level of sweetness of fruit, fruit weight, high-fruit, thickness of the flesh of the fruit, conclusion from this research is going on the effect of trimming and a wide variety of growing media hydroponic system fertigation in treatment PM5 (trimming down, kokopit). There was also a real influence on the treatment PM6 (without pruning, kokopit) .In observation of plant height, leaf number, fruit weight, and high fruit. And also happens to influence a wide range of growing media on growth and yield of melon on hydroponics fertigation system, the PM6 treatment (without pruning, kokopit) had the highest rates in the observation of plant height, weight of the fruit, and the number of leaves.

This study aimed to determine the best dosage of goat manure as a natural fertilizer on Beha grass(Brachiaria humidicola). This study used 64 poles of Beha grass grown in polybags divided into 16plots, and it used a completely randomized design (CRD) to analyze the data. This study consist of 4treatments that is P0 (0 ton/ha of goat manure), P1 (10 ton/ha of goat manure), P2 (15 ton/ha of goatmanure), and P3 (20 ton/ha of goat manure). This study's variables were plant height, number of leaves,numbers of tillers, new production, and root length. Data analysis used ANOVA variance continued withreal honest difference test. The result of this study showed that averages of plant height (cm) wereP0=26, P1=50.5, P2=51.5, and P3=52.75. Averages of the number of leaves were P0=22, P1=110,P2=160, and P3=185. Averages of numbers of tillers were P0=7, P1=25, P2=37, and P3=38. Averages ofnew production (g) were P0=17.75, P1=123.5, P2=178, and P3=192.25. Averages of root length (cm)were P0=37.8, P1=39.5, P2=41.775, and P3=49.5. Fertilization with natural fertilizer from goat manurehas a genuine effect (P<0.01) on the growth of Beha grass. The best dosage of fertilization with goatmanure was 15 ton/ha.
