AN ANALYSIS OF EXPRESSIVE SPEECH ACTS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN JOKER MOVIE

This research was aimed to find out the types of expressive speech acts and the context of the expressive speech acts uttered by the main character in Joker movie. The design of the research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data source was Joker Movie directed by Todd Phillips The movie was released in 2019 and its duration was about 1 hour 55 minutes. The data of this research were utterances that included as expressive speech acts. The data were collected by watching, observing, and writing down the utterances indicated as expressive speech acts found in the movie. The data were analyzed by using formal and informal methods. The data were presented by using table (Formal method) and description (Informal method). The contexts of the utterances were analyzed by using SPEAKING model. The results of the analysis show that there are six classifications of expressive speech acts uttered by the main character in Joker Movie. The total number of expressive speech acts found in the movie was 27 utterances covering 7 utterances of greeting, 6 utterances of agreeing, 5 utterances of thanking, 4 utterances of apologizing, 3 utterances of wishing, and 2 utterances of exclamation. The researcher found out that the expressive speeech act of greeting is the most frequently used by the main character. It shows that the main character likes to express his salutation when he meets someone.

This study aims to describe the forms of expressive speech act uttered by adults in TPI in Pesisir Selatan Regency, Sumatera Barat. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data are any utterances which contain expressive speech acts of adult in TPI Pesisir Selatan. The analysis is done by using speech acts theory proposed by Searle. Data source of this research is Adult in TPI. In this research, the researcher used observational method because the data are in the form of spoken language that obtained in a Adult in TPI. Thus this research used notetaking technique in collecting expressive speech act. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act in adults in TPI, namely apology, thanks, sympathy, attitudes, expressing greeting, wishing, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing like, and expressing dislikes.

The aim of this research is to describe the expressive speech acts of the YouTube user (netizen) and the politeness strategy used by the netizens in line to respond polling of Presidential-VP candidate in Indonesia. This descriptive qualitative research used library research in collecting the data. Some theories related to expressive speech acts and politeness strategy were used to analyze the data. The analysis was represented by using informal method. The result of analysis showed that the expressive speech act is the most frequently used by the YouTube users. The results indicated that the netizens used expressive speech acts to express anger, satirizing, sympathizing, blaming, thanking and fulminating. The research also revealed the importance of expressive speech act in keeping politeness in witten language. It was concluded that the netizens were creative in expressing their ideas through written language. Expressive speech acts and politeness strategy reflected the way the language users show their emotion by using words.

Direct and indirect speech acts are the two types of speech acts. This study aims to know how indirect speech acts are employed in the movie "SpongeBob SquarePants." It employs descriptive qualitative research to explain the main character's speech act types. There is currently a scarcity of studies examining speech act types in cartoon or animation films; yet, it is necessary. According to this study, the result of this article is: first, there are seventy-four discussions of indirect speech acts obtained from all characters in the movie SpongeBob SquarePants. Each dialogue in the film SpongeBob SquarePants can be deduced to reveal the meaning of indirect speech acts. Second, The reader can use the domain analysis indirect speech acts summary to help them understand each dialogue in this movie that has a different meaning. This stage permitted the main characters to say literal things to the listener. The main character did not make a difficult-to-understand statement to the listener. This research looks at Yule's theory's utterances of indirect speech activities. As a result, the outcome differed from the prior study, despite the same issue.

AbstrakPenelitian terhadap novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kesantunan tindak tutur menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur direktif menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara membaca dan memahami novel, mencatat kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat tokoh yang dapat dirumuskan sebagai bagian dari tuturan maupun tindak tutur menyuruh, dan menginventarisasikan data berdasarkan masalah-masalah tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data dianalisis dan dibahas berdasarkan teori pragmatik. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan sembilan tuturan tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, yang menunjukkan bahwa tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye cenderung melakukan tindak tutur menyuruh secara santun. Strategi bertutur tokoh utama dalam novel cenderung menggunakan tindak menyuruh kepada adik-adiknya. The data of this research are directive speech acts ordered to the protagonist in the novel. Data were collected by understanding the novel, noting down words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that can be formulated as part of speech acts, and making an inventory of the data based on the problems of directive speech acts contained in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. Data were analyzed and based on pragmatic theory. The results of this study shows nine directive ordered speech act utterances, which indicate that the protagonist in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye tends to perform speech acts politely. Iklan sebagai salah satu bentuk komunikasi memunyai peranan penting untuk memperkenalkan suatu produk kepada masyarakat. Tuturan iklan merupakan fenomena menarik untuk diteliti dari berbagai aspek pragmatik, salah satunya adalah tindak tutur. Penelitian ini mengkaji tindak tutur pada wacana iklan berbahasa Jawa di radio. Penelitian bersifat deskriptif kualitatif ini memaparkan bentuk tindak tutur dan konteks tuturan dalam wacana iklan berbahasa Jawa di radio. Strategi yang digunakan adalah analisis isi. Berdasarkan analisis isi diperoleh hasil bahwa bentuk tuturan dalam wacana iklan berbahasa Jawa di radio meliputi tindak tutur representatif, direktif, ekpresif, komisif, dan deklaratif. Tindak tutur representatif digunakan dalam konteks memberi tahu, menyatakan, mengakui, melaporkan, menjelaskan, menyebutkan, dan memberikan kesaksian. Tindak tutur direktif digunakan dalam konteks menyuruh, mengajak, mengimbau, menyarankan, dan mengingatkan. Tindak tutur ekspresif digunakan sebagai evaluasi dalam konteks memuji, mengkritik, dan mengeluh. Tindak tutur komisif digunakan hanya dalam konteks memastikan. Tindak tutur deklaratif digunakan dalam konteks melarang, menegaskan, dan meyakinkan. Kata kunci: tindak tutur, konteks, iklan, bahasa Jawa, radioABSTRACTAdvertising as one form of communication has an important role to introduce a product to the community. Advertising is an interesting phenomenon to be examined from various aspects of pragmatic, one of which is the act of speech. This study examines the acts of speech on the discourse of Javanese advertisement on the radio. This descriptive qualitative research describes the form of speech acts and the context of speech in the discourse of Javanese ad on the radio. The strategy used is content analysis. Based on the content analysis, it is found that the form of speech in the Javanese language advertising discourse in the radio includes the act of representative speech, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative. Representative speech acts are used in the context of notifying, declaring, acknowledging, reporting, explaining, mentioning, and giving testimony. The directive speech acts are used in the context of commanding, referring, appealing, suggesting, and reminding. Expressive speech acts are used as evaluation in the context of praising, criticizing, and complaining. Commissive speech acts are used only in the context of making sure. This study aims to: (1) formulate the types of commissive speech acts used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election, (3) formulate the types of expressive speech acts used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election, (2) formulating the speech strategy used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data source in this study is the speech of the 2019 presidential and vice presidential candidates downloaded via Youtube. Based on the results of data analysis, three findings were concluded. First, the types of commissive speech acts used by presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the presidential election, namely (1) promising, (2) vowing, (3) offering, (4) swearing, and (5) intending. Second, the types of expressive speech acts that exist in the vice presidential debate in the 2019 presidential election are, (1) congratulate, (2) say thank you, (3) apologize, (4) praise, (5) criticize, (6) insinuate , and (7) complaining. Third, the speech strategy used in the vice presidential candidate debate in the 2019 presidential election, (1) speaking without further ado, (2) speaking with positive politeness politeness, (3) speaking with negative politeness pleasantries, and (4) speak vaguely.

This research aims to reveal: the types of speech acts used by the main character in “Spongebob Squarepants’ the movie and the previous studies in speech act analysis for knowing the way of the directives of speech act appears. It employed descriptive qualitative research in the explaining of speech acts types used by the main character. There is still a lack of research about the analysis of speech act categories in cartoon movie or animation movie, it is substantial to be carried out. The finding of this research is the directives speech act is the most frequently in SpongeBob SquarePants the movie with data 118 or 44,36% from a total of 266 or 100% of the whole data. Then, the similarity data found in the three journals about analysis of speech act with data that the directives speech act is the highest utterance in a cartoon movie.

This study aims to describe kinds and forms of expressive speech act in Hannah Montana Session 1. It belongs to descriptive qualitative method. The research object was expressive speech act. The data source was utterances which contain expressive speech acts in the film Hannah Montana Session 1. The researcher used observation method and noting technique in collecting the data. In analyzing the data, descriptive qualitative method was used. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act found in Hannah Montana Session 1, namely expressing apology, expressing thanks, expressing sympathy, expressing attitudes, expressing greeting, expressing wishes, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing likes, and expressing dislikes. The forms of expressive speech act are direct literal expressive speech act, direct non-literal expressive speech act, indirect literal expressive speech act, and indirect non-literal expressive speech act.

The study aims to analyze the type of speech act found in bilingual fables and its translation accuracy. The theory of Searle (1969) on the classification of speech act and the instrument of translation accuracy from Nababan et. al. (2012) are used in the study. It is a descriptive qualitative research with embedded-case study. Several fables books from several different publishers are taken as the data source. The result shows that there are seven pairs of speech act found in both SL and TL utterances, namely directive – directive, representative – representative, expressive - expressive, commissive – commissive, directive - representative, expressive – representative, and expressive directive. The first four pairs are in the same type of speech act whereas the last three pairs have different types of speech acts between SL and TL utterances. Those pairs with the same type of speech act are mostly translated accurately while those pairs with different type of speech act are translated less accurately and inaccurately.
