This study aims to: (1) formulate the types of commissive speech acts used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election, (3) formulate the types of expressive speech acts used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election, (2) formulating the speech strategy used by presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the 2019 presidential election. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data source in this study is the speech of the 2019 presidential and vice presidential candidates downloaded via Youtube. Based on the results of data analysis, three findings were concluded. First, the types of commissive speech acts used by presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the presidential and vice presidential debates at the presidential election, namely (1) promising, (2) vowing, (3) offering, (4) swearing, and (5) intending. Second, the types of expressive speech acts that exist in the vice presidential debate in the 2019 presidential election are, (1) congratulate, (2) say thank you, (3) apologize, (4) praise, (5) criticize, (6) insinuate , and (7) complaining. Third, the speech strategy used in the vice presidential candidate debate in the 2019 presidential election, (1) speaking without further ado, (2) speaking with positive politeness politeness, (3) speaking with negative politeness pleasantries, and (4) speak vaguely.

<p>This research is conducted based on two purposes; they are to identify the types of expressive speech act found in the statuses of the Facebook users, and to explain the modes of expressive utterance used in the statuses. Therefore, the data source is the social network that is Facebook and the data are the statuses of the Facebook users. The data are collected by using observational method, followed by non-participant observational technique and taking-note technique. The data analysis is based on pragmatic identity method proposed by Sudaryanto (2015) which is also supported by the theory of the types of expressive speech act by Ronan (2015), and theory about the modes of utterance from Alwi, et al (2000). The analysis result shows that there are fourteen types of expressive speech act in the statuses. They are the expression of agreement, disagreement, apology, gratitude, sorrow (sadness), exclamation (complaint), volition (hope), anger, disappointment, encouragement, satire, annoyance, pride, and congratulation. Meanwhile, the modes of expressive speech act that are used consist of declarative mode, interrogative mode, and exclamative mode. The importance of this research is to reveal or show that there is something else the Facebook users want to say behind their statuses. Sometimes, they do not really state what they mean in their statuses. They use indirect way and there lies the use of expressive speech act which can be stated in different way.</p>

This study aims to describe the  forms of expressive speech act uttered by adults in TPI in Pesisir Selatan Regency, Sumatera Barat. This  is a descriptive qualitative research. The data are any  utterances which contain expressive speech acts of adult in TPI Pesisir Selatan.  The analysis is done by using speech acts theory proposed by Searle. Data source of this research is Adult in TPI. In this research, the researcher used observational method because the data are in the form of spoken language that obtained in a Adult in TPI. Thus this research used notetaking technique in collecting expressive speech act. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act in adults in TPI, namely apology, thanks, sympathy, attitudes, expressing greeting, wishing, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing like, and expressing dislikes.

United States presidential election 2020 is the most awaited event for the citizens of the United States. People usually want to get to know how good the presidential candidates are by searching for information about the presidential candidates. Checking the presidential candidates’ social media is one way to find outtheirprofiles.Joe Biden as one of the presidential candidates uses the growing popularity of Instagram to gain public attention by posting some of his responses to current issues and promoting himself as the next President of the United States. It made Joe Biden’s Instagram account is filled with netizens’ comments. This research aims to identify the expressive speech acts that appear in Joe Biden's comments published on September 13, 2020, to January 20, 2021, and to describe the reasons for their use of these expressive speech acts. The instrument of this research is a document.  The data were collected by browsing the comments on Joe Biden’s Instagram post, then the data were selected, and identified the expressive speech acts used by netizens, then the research showed the findings of the research by presenting data and analysis. There are 26 data contained an expressive speech act, in which 10 data as expressive of thanking, 3data as expressive of congratulating, 5 data as expressive of wishing, 8 data as expressive of attitude. The expressive speech act of thanking is the most dominant type of expressive speech act found on the netizens’ comments of Joe Biden Instagram post. In conclusion, netizens’ comments contained the expressive speech act of thanking since netizens appreciated the good things that Joe Biden had planned when he ran for President of the United States. Joe Biden frequently posts his thoughts on various issues and promises a good solution in the future. Netizens expressed their gratitude for Joe Biden because they felt they had found a leader who cared about society.

This study of the transitivity system aims to identify and describe the type of transitivity, namely the process, participant, and circumstance which appeared in Jokowi and Prabowo campaign speech in 2019. The method used was qualitative method and researcher as key instrument in this study. The method used in collecting data was Metode Simak which proposed by Sudaryanto (2018). Data collected were analyzed by using the theory of Halliday (1985), namely Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) which focused on transitivity system. The results of the study based on data analysis show that there are 24 data or about 32% material process as dominant process that found in Jokowi campaign speech, the most dominant participant is actor that found about 15.1% or 23 data , and time as the most dominant of circumstance that found about 21.4% or 9 data. Whereas in Prabowo's campaign speech found that the most dominant process that used is material process about 37.5% or 30 data with the most dominant participant, namely actor and goal that have the same amount of data about 28 data or 18.2%, the circumstance type which is the most dominant used namely place about 11 data or 26.8%. The most dominant transitivity process used by the two presidential candidates shows that the two presidential candidates try to convey things related to the activities or actions that will be done by each presidential candidate if they are elected to become president of Indonesia in 2019-2024 period.

Analysis of Expressive Speech Actsin Whatsapp Group Spoonerism Sticker DiscourseABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tindak tutur ekspresif dalam wacana stiker plesetan grup whatsapp TBI 6B. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik pustaka dan alat pengumpul data adalah peneliti sendiri sebagai instrumen kunci. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah metode simak. Objek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu anggota grup whatsapp kelas TBI 6B IAIN Surakarta. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut, maka dapat disimpulkan terdapat jenis-jenis tindak tutur dan fungsi tuturan ekspresifnya yang terdiri dari tuturan ekspresif mengucapkan selamat, terima kasih, megkritik, mengeluh, pengungkapan perasaan, memuji, meminta maaf, serta menyindir.Kata kunci: Tuturan, wacana stiker, tindak tutur ekspresifABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to describe the expressive speech acts in spoonerism discourse on TBI 6B whatsapp group stickers. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques in this study are library techniques and data collection tools are the researchers themselves as a key instrument. The data analysis technique used is observation method. The object used in this study is the members of the TBI 6B IAIN Surakarta class whatsapp group. The results of this study state that there are expressive speech acts in the discourse of whatsapp TBI 6B group play stickers namely the expression of satirizing, complaining, and expressing feelings. Based on the results of this analysis, it can be shown that there are types of speech acts and the functions of expressive speech which consist of expressive expressive speech, gratitude, criticism, complaints, expression of feelings, based on apologies, and insinuations.Keywords: Speech, sticker discourse, expressive speech acts

This research was aimed to find out the types of expressive speech acts and the context of the expressive speech acts uttered by the main character in Joker movie. The design of the research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data source was Joker Movie directed by Todd Phillips The movie was released in 2019 and its duration was about 1 hour 55 minutes. The data of this research were utterances that included as expressive speech acts. The data were collected by watching, observing, and writing down the utterances indicated as expressive speech acts found in the movie. The data were analyzed by using formal and informal methods. The data were presented by using table (Formal method) and description (Informal method). The contexts of the utterances were analyzed by using SPEAKING model. The results of the analysis show that there are six classifications of expressive speech acts uttered by the main character in Joker Movie. The total number of expressive speech acts found in the movie was 27 utterances covering 7 utterances of greeting, 6 utterances of agreeing, 5 utterances of thanking, 4 utterances of apologizing, 3 utterances of wishing, and 2 utterances of exclamation. The researcher found out that the expressive speeech act of greeting is the most frequently used by the main character. It shows that the main character likes to express his salutation when he meets someone.

This paper is entitled "Verbal Violence in Responding to Status and Political Comments on Social Media and Its Implications to Language Politeness". This study examines patterns of verbal violence displayed by supporters of candidate pairs in responding to political discourse on the 2019 presidential election. The focus of the study is about mass communication which shows the existence of verbal violence and its implications for language politeness. This research uses a descriptive method. The data analyzed in this research are comments, status, and tweets as response from netizens who support presidential candidate pairs in the 2019 presidential election. Data is taken from several social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Line, and Whatsapp. Determination of the research object is done with purposive considerations. The results showed that (1) on various occasions on social media, supporters of each pair of candidates dominantly use expressive speech acts; (2) supporters of candidate pairs often violate the principles of politeness, namely violating the maxims of wisdom, generosity, praise, humility, agreement, and sympathy; (3) the existence of verbal violence is caused by messages conveyed through social media which tend to be free, without having to go through the gate keeper process.AbstrakTulisan ini berjudul “Kekerasan Verbal dalam Merespons Status dan Komentar Politik di Media Sosial dan Implikasinya terhadap Kesantunan Berbahasa”. Penelitian ini mengkaji pola-pola kekerasan verbal yang ditampilkan oleh para pendukung pasangan calon dalam merespons wacana politik pemilihan presiden pada tahun 2019. Fokus kajian pada penelitian ini adalah komunikasi massa yang memperlihatkan adanya kekerasan verbal dan implikasinya terhadap kesantunan berbahasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Data yang dianalisis dalam penelitin ini berupa komentar, status, dan tweet sebagai respons dari netizen pendukung pasangan calon presiden pada pemilihan presiden tahun 2019 terhadap wacana politik pilpres tersebut. Data diambil dari beberapa media sosial, seperti Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Line, dan Whatsapp. Penentuan objek penelitian dilakukan dengan pertimbangan purposif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) dalam berbagai kesempatan di media sosial, para pendukung setiap pasangan calon secara dominan menggunakan tindak tutur ekspresif; (2) para pendukung paslon kerap kali melanggar prinsip-prinsip kesantunan, yaitu pelanggaran terhadap maksim kearifan, kedermawanan, pujian, kerendahan hati, kesepakatan, dan kesimpatian; (3) adanya kekerasan verbal disebabkan oleh pesan yang disampaikan lewat media sosial cenderung bebas, tanpa harus melalui proses gate keeper.

Illocutionary Acts is what the speaker wants to achieve by uttering something, and illocutionary acts is an utterance which has a particular conventional force. About this, illocutionary acts in Hillary Clinton’s speech is interesting to be analyzed. The purpose of this research is to analyze the types of illocutionary acts found in Hillary Clinton’s concession speech to Donald Trump. The writer used descriptive qualitative research. The main research instrument was the writer herself supported by the data analysis sheet. The data analysis was performed by categorizing the data based on Searle’s categorization of speech acts (2005) which include assertive, directives, commissives, expressive and declarative speech acts. Each category was thoroughly observed to find the answer of the research questions. The final step was presenting the data and making a conclusion in reference to the findings of the research. The research findings show that the types of illocutionary acts found in Hillary Clinton’s concession speech to Donald Trump consist of assertives, directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives. Assertions have the highest frequency of occurrence 13 types (36.1%). It is followed by directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives which occur 9 types (25%), 3 types (8.3%), 9 types (25%) and 2 types (5.6%) respectively. The dominant illocutionary acts in Hillary Clinton’s speech are assertives. Assertation showed the highest frequency of assertives. So, the total of data were 36 types of illocutionary acts founds in Hillary Clinton’s concession speech to Donald Trump.

This research was conducted to describe (1) the realization of the principle of politeness by the Indonesian Lawyers Club host on TVONE to act questioning and (2) the context of the use of the principle of politeness in the act of said speech. This research type is qualitative research by using descriptive method. This research data is in the form of a questioning question done by the host of Indonesia Lawyers Club which aired during March 2016. The data source of this research is a video of ILC event on 01, 08, 15, 22 and 29 March 2016 which has been downloaded in social media youtube. The data analysis process is done with 3 steps. (1) identify data in the form of questioning, (2) classify data that realize the maxims of courtesy principles, and (3) describe the context of the use of principles of politeness in acts of speech asked. Based on the results of data analysis obtained two research findings. First, the principle of politeness realized by the ILC host during March 2016, found the use of 4 maxims, ie (a) 38 data maximization of wisdom, (b) 11 data maxim of praise, (c) 8 data maxim of humility, and (d) 33 data maximization of inference. Second, the context of the use of the principle of politeness in speech acts asks (a) higher and less familiar speakers tend to be used maxim of wisdom, (b) higher and higher speakers tend to be used maxim of wisdom, (c) speakers of equal position and unfamiliar is used maximally, and (d) lower-level speakers and not yet familiar tend to be used maxim of inference. Thus, it can be concluded that the realization of the principle of civility most often realized by ILC hosts is the maxim of wisdom that tends to be used in the context of lower-level speakers and not yet familiar.Keywords: Politeness Principle, Talkshow, Indonesia Lawyers Club

Verbal Violence in the Kiko Cartoon Film. This research aims to describe theverbal violence in the forms of the directive, and expressive speech acts in the Kikocartoon. This was qualititative research. The data were the words or sentencesused in the Kiko cartoon. The data source of research was the cartoon film of Kiko.Data were collected using the note-taking technique. The research instrument usedwere laptop and data cards. Laptop and data cards are used as a video player andas a tool to listen and understand the utterances in the Kiko cartoon. Furthermore,the data collected were analyzed based on verbal violence in the forms of thedirective, and expressive speech acts. The additional instrument was the data cardsby which the researcher collected data on the types off speech acts and groupedthem according to the directive and expressive speech acts and grouped themaccording to the directive and expressive speech acts. The results of the researchindicated that 117 speech acts including 33 types of rebuked violence, 55 types ofharassment, two types of accusations, 20 types of coercion, and seven types ofintimidation. b) 56 directive speech acts consisting of 29 commandment speechacts, 2 threat, seven rejection seepch acts, 13 opposing speech acts, five denialspeech acts. c) 61 expressive speech acts consisting of 11 speech acts forexpressing displeasure, 17 speech acts for criticizing, 15 speech acts for swearing,15 speech acts for insulting, and there speech acts for exspressing satire.Key words:verbal violence, Kiko cartoon film
