Geographic research of the phenomenon of inter-capital space of the Belarusian-Russian border region is an actual research area problem for the socio-economic geography of Belarus and Russia. This is due to the objective need to develop mechanisms of overcoming the demographic and economic peripherality of the region and embedding regional economic systems of border regions into the system of local relations. The purpose of the research is to identify the current distinctive features of the demographic and economic development of the inter-capital space of the Belarusian-Russian border region with the establishment of its niche from the point of the central-peripheral approach. During the analysis of the demographic situation of the inter-capital space of the Belarusian-Russian borderlands, it was established that, generally, in 1999–2019, its main feature was peripherality with the three zones established – the central demographic periphery, the buffer demographic periphery and the demographic semi-periphery – with a predominance in the structure of the first zone. Geographically, the central periphery zone is formed mainly by the rural borderland areas. According to the results of the analysis of the industrial development level, it was discovered that the inter-capital space of the Belarusian-Russian borderlands is characterised by a high degree of spatial inequality due to the development of large industrial centers around the existing periphery. This research had established a spatial differentiation of the transportation accessibility (by the connectivity of administrative centers of the borderlands) and the productivity of road transportation. The economicgeographical analysis of the foreign trade had revealed the diversity of directions and intensity of foreign goods trade between the Belarusian-Russian borderlands, mainly expressed in the predominance of the export-oriented regions with the per capita foreign trade turnover estimated at up to 2000 US dollars.

Abstract The Republic of Macedonia covers an area of 25,713 km² and according to data from the census conducted in 2002, it has a population of 2,022,547 inhabitants. In the past, the Republic of Macedonia was characterized by some significant demographic changes, including a decline in the average annual rate of population increase. The enhanced immigration movements and sudden decline in the rates of natural population increase have led to changes in distribution of the population and to a spatial differentiation in the population. The long period of transition in the country has been reflected in the spatial development of the country and its demographic processes and to relocation of the population. The different natural-geographical characteristics, unequal regional development potentials, unequal economic development, and demographic characteristics have led to changes in the demographic situation of certain regions. The regions that continually lose part of its population clearly differ from these regions that are characterized by an increased population which is leading to a greater concentration of people in certain location. Further decades with a declining birth rate, followed by a change in the values of population increase, together with migration movements, particularly from the rural and less developed economic regions, has resulted in a decline in the population. The different zones of depopulation and concentration in a simple way express the complex relationships in the population composition.

Environmental zoning polo agro industry development of Alto Piranhas, Paraíba State

Abstract: This study aimed to zone the levels of environmental deterioration in the landscape between the years 2001 and 2012, adopting the criteria of ecodynamics municipalities that make up the hub of agro-industrial development of the Alto Piranhas. Analyzes involving the dynamics of landscape and environmental vulnerability were performed. The methodology used in this research was based on specific locations, including the process of selecting, combining, through map algebra available in a GIS procedure, each geographical variable contains spatial differentiation, and the combination between them promotes the geographical subdivision of space equiproblemáticas regions. Taking as a basis the superimposition of geological, geomorphological and pedological maps was made environmental zoning map, with information that allowed the identification of the conditions of the natural environment and their skills. These factors were compared according to the importance assigned to them. The results indicated that the central areas concentrate the classes with larger environmental hazards such as unstable (environmental risk between 60 and 80%), and the emerging instability (greater than 80 risk. Already on distributed throughout the area of study areas located the areas with environmental risk between 40 and 60% (moderate unrest). Based on the analysis, it is noticed that the study area has a fine balance to be located in semiarid environment that can be broken easily with the intensification of agribusiness activities.

Topicality. Ukrainian export strategy for 2017-2021 determines food industry as one of the key elements of the country's foreign economic potential. Despite the secondary importance of wine in meeting the basic human needs, wine industry plays an important role in filling the budget of the country, ensuring the socio-economic development of regions. The wine sector is a perspective direction for the development of Ukrainian economy, an integral part of its foreign economic potential because of favourable natural and climatic conditions and existence of labour and other resources of high quality.Aim and tasks. The purpose of the article is to determine the foreign economic potential of Ukrainian wine industry in the world market. To achieve the goal, following tasks have been set and solved: definition of production potential of Ukrainian wine industry; assessment of consumer potential of Ukrainian wine market; study of trends of export-import activity of market operators (volumes of export, import, foreign trade turnover, balance of export and import operations, geographic structure of export and import).Research results. According to the research results of Ukrainian wine industry in 2014-2018, it is established that the production potential of Ukrainian wine market is decreasing. This can be explained by the decrease in the area of grape plantations in the fructiferous age, the declining dynamics of the index of industrial products, the growth of depreciation, the decrease in the average number of staff members, as well as the decline in consumer market potential (due to a decrease in the number of target consumer segment, in the share of spending on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, the growth of average consumer prices, the prohibition of the promotion of wine etc.).According to the export-import activity in monetary terms Ukraine is a net importer of grape wines. However, in terms of volume, the volumes of wine exports are dominated by imports. Such contradictions in data in both physical and monetary terms can be explained by the low cost of Ukrainian exports. The average price of 1 litre of exported Ukrainian wine in 2018 is 3.5 times lower than the cost of 1 litre of imported one. The geographic structure of demand for Ukrainian wines varies: the share of CIS countries and Europe is decreasing and the share of Asian countries is increasing. The largest buyers of Ukrainian wine are: Russian Federation, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and China. The geography of the import of grape wines has the opposite structure: a significant proportion is being taken by the European countries, the smallest – by the “new wine regions”: America, Africa and Australia and Oceania.Conclusion. The analysis of the indicators of functioning of Ukrainian wine industry shows that at present, it can not claim the position of an influential player in the market. There is a significant natural and climatic potential, but there is a number of problems that hinder the development of foreign economic potential. These problems are: problems related to the political and legal environment; problems of production potential; problems of consumer potential; foreign trade problems; retail problems.

After being an economic backwater, the southeastern Austrian border region enjoys economic boom today. The decisive factor for the turnaround was a regional development process that had its first steps in 1995. The region was suffering from low education, had the national lowest income rate, no industrial development, no infrastructure, little self-esteem and a lack of job opportunity. The initiators of the project were thinking of a different way of measuring progress and started imagining a future built on different standards. Due to profound research activities, the initiators came to the conclusion that mega projects won’t entail sustainable solutions or future-competence. Hence, they turned their focus to their habitat – their region. To in-valuate the living space, a new identity that was representative, gained recognition and reinforced the peoples self-confidence. In 2001 the new identity ‘Steirisches Vulkanland’ was born. The vision throughout the entire development process was to transform the border region with little chances into an innovative, worth living region ‘Steirisches Vulkanland’ within a period of 15 years. In 2010 their vision seems to be achieved, 79 municipalities together promote successfully local, green, self-sustaining businesses. Yet, the development process is still going on, heading for new, courageous, challenging visions like achieving energy independence by the year 2025.

Background. The high level of the country’s dependence on imports of goods and services leads to significant vulnerability of its economy to market fluctuations, adverse price trends in the world market and threatens the competitiveness of domestic production and exports. The analysis of recent research and publications reveals that the problems of import contribution to the process of commodity saturation of Ukraine’s domestic market, structural changes identification, strategic priorities and institutional transformations in the state implementation of import substitution policy need in-depth study. The aim of this paper is to study implementation possibilities of the strategy of neo-industrial import substitution in the economy of Ukraine. Materials and methods. Modern scientific concepts, theoretical work on development and analysis of internal market functioning, statistical data are theoretical and methodological basis of this paper. Methods of statistical analysis, synthesis, grouping and graphical representation of the results were used to achieve the research purpose and implementation of the tasks. Results. The concept of neo-industrial import substitution is considered. The present state of Ukraine’s domestic market development and foreign trade is analyzed, the determinants of import dependence of Ukraine’s economy are defined. Thus, problematic issues of institutional support for the implementation of neo-industrial import substitution strategy in Ukraine are outlined, the proposals for its realization are made. Conclusion. Thus, we believe thatit is necessary to overcome barriers (organizational, institutional, technological) that hinder the implementation of neo-industrial economy model for realization of neo-industrial import substitution strategy in Ukraine. It provides performance of a set of conditions: the formation of a favorable institutional regime for the development of import-substituting productions, purposeful outing to the institutional trajectory of neo-industrial development, the formation of necessary institutional environment with general economic program development of neo-industrial import substitution. Keywords: foreign trade, import, domestic market, import substitution, import dependence, neo-industrial import substitution, structure of import use.
