Research background and hypothesis. Modern training trend for biathletes is the increasing intensity of the training process in competition activities. Competition activities of elite biathletes while preparing for the main competition of the season have received little attention by researchers. Research hypotheses: The number of starts and sports results in the competitions before the main competition of the season for elite biathletes are related to sports results in the main competition of the season. Research  aim  was  to  analyse  the  interaction  of  biathletes’  sports  results  and  the  number  of  starts,  and  to establish the relation of this interaction between the results achieved in World Cup competitions and World Biathlon Championship.Research methods. The data have been retrieved from the documents of the International Biathlon Union (IBU): protocols of the World Biathlon Championship of 2011 and World Biathlon Cup competition. We analysed the sports results of female biathletes who took the 1 st –10 th  places in the World Biathlon Championship in individual events. Research results. World elite biathletes participated in E.ON and IBU category competitions 16.2 ± 3.74 times before the World Biathlon Championship. The number of starts correlates with the places taken by biathletes in the general account of the World Biathlon Cup before the world championship (r = –0.83). In the individual races in the World Championship, all medals were won by eight skiers, and five of them were among the first ten skiers in the general standing of World Cup competitions before the world championship.Discussion and conclusion. The preparation of elite biathletes for the most important competition of the season  – World Biathlon Championship is grounded on the repeated participation in the World Biathlon Cup competitions. Biathletes, taking the 1 st –10 th  places in the general account of the World Biathlon Cup, are real applicants for medals in the World Biathlon Championship. Keywords: number of starts, taken places, correlation, sprint, pursuit, mass start, individual start.

A number of horrific failures of both public and privately owned dams in recent decades has triggered serious concern over the safety of dams throughout the world. However, in Australia, although much Government attention is being devoted to the medium- to large-scale dams, minimal attention is being paid to the serious potential cumulative, catchment-wide problems associated with smaller private dams. The paper determines how to consider addressing hazardous private dam safety issues generally through a comparative analysis of international dam safety policy/law systems. The analysis has identified elements of best and minimum practice that can and do exist successfully to provide deserved assurance to the community of the proper safety management of hazardous private dams at both the individual and cumulative, catchment-wide levels. These elements provide benchmarks that enable ‘appropriate’ legislative arrangements to be determined for different jurisdictional circumstances as illustrated with an Australian policy-deficient case study.

Abstract Introduction. The snatch technique is a discipline in Olympic weightlifting. The lifter has to raise the barbell from the platform directly above their head in one movement. While reviewing the literature on biomechanical analysis of the techniques of weightlifting, one can find positions on the analysis of parameters, such as barbell track, horizontal displacement, and angular positions of the joints in the individual phases of the lifter's movement. Many texts concern female and male lifters taking part in World or European Championships. The parameters of the best competitors are outlined - mostly those who finish in the top five places in competition. Mostly these are parameters regarding male lifters, and less frequently those of female lifters. In the literature review, an overlooked aspect is that of the definition of the diversity of indicators as regards the snatch technique practiced by female lifters depending on score. Material and methods. In the research, registered snatch attempts during the World Championship were used. Videos were used by judges to establish a maximum weight limit for female lifters. The attempts were registered by two cameras and were later digitally processed by the APAS 2000 system. Barbell parameters, maximum speed, average of the bar, and the parameters of the lifter-bar collocation (horizontal displacement of barbell weights and height elevation) were assessed. Results. The analysed attempts show the margin of error for measurement of the average speed of the barbell as 0.03 m/s. The difference in maximum speed of analysed attempts is 15%. The height of clearance of the first-placed female lifter's barbell was 12.7 cm, 30 cm for the last-placed. Conclusions. The sporting level of weightlifting by female lifters influences the analysed biomechanical indicators of the snatch. Those indicators, which are similar in the case of both the World Championship winner and the female lifter who came last, may be described as the average speeds of the barbell. The high sporting level of female lifters performing heavy lifting is characterized by the clearance of the barbell.

In the training of all-round track and field athletes there are basically two ways to achieve high athletic performance. The first one is the improvement and development of those basic skills, to which the athlete is more predisposed (to speed, strength, etc.). The essence of the second one lies in the fact that it is aimed at equal improvement of all physical abilities for mastering the events included in decathlon and heptathlon (sprint events, jump events, speed-strength events and endurance events). The athletic performance rates of Ukrainian all-rounders, participating at these competitions, are 400-800 points behind. The best place of the Ukrainian athlete Olexiy Kasyanov at the World Championship 2009 was third with 8470 points, and the worst 23rd place was taken by Fedir Laukhin (7652 points) at the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney (Australia). The irregular participation of Ukrainian all-round athletes in the main sports forums (Olympic Games and world championships) shows that the system of training decathletes in our country does not meet the expected standards. It is possible to distinguish many reasons for such performances. In recent years they are associated with the fact that the leaders of decathletes traditionally don’t participate in the championships of Ukraine. So, all other athletes have no possibilities to compete with the strongest in this particular sport and to show their highest results. And this happens along with the absence of highly qualified coaches and conditions for the educational and training process.

Globalization processes, which are aimed at forming a single language of different cultures, raise problems of modern identity and its transformation. The process of self-identification is complex and depends on the existing worldview, so the transformation of identity entails a change in the worldview, and vice versa. In other words, such transformation can be seen as transgressive processes, which is clearly demonstrated in the example of religious practice. The religious worldview is rather stable, but significant changes are observed today. Influenced by syncretism fashion, new religious practices start blurring the boundaries of the world confessions that have been formed over the centuries, replacing the sacrament of conversion with an act of uncontrolled religious transgression, which is especially characteristic of believers who do not feel a special craving for integral system of dogmas. The authors used the term transgression to fix the phenomenon of crossing the impassable border between the possible and the impossible, leading in some cases to a breakthrough beyond the boundaries of everyday commonness and generally accepted norms. This process is both constructive and destructive, but it is destructive to social norms. Therefore, special attention is paid to the act of religious transgression related to the transition to another faith, which makes it necessary to study in the framework of the article bans and recommendations designed to create a limit of impassability on the borders of world confessions. Based on the comparative analysis of various rules and regulations adopted in Judaism, Islam and Christianity in order to regulate believers’ behavior, the social effect on the formation of the individual religious worldview is analyzed.

The article considers the history of creative and personal relationships of M. Prishvin and B. Pilnyak from 1922 to the beginning of the 1930s, basing on epistolary and diary entries. In the presence of stable, largely friendly relations between the two writers, their character was complicated by Prishvin’s very critical attitude towards his fellow writer, expressed in a number of sharp assessments of some of Pilnyak’s works. On the other hand, it is noted that Prishvin appreciates the artistic talent of Pilnyak as a master of vivid sketchy images. The discussion on the comparative analysis of Pilnyak’s novel “The Naked Year” written on fresh traces of the revolution and Prishvin’s novel “The World Cup” with the involvement of A.K. Voronsky and L.D. Trotsky was separately considered. The author of the article sees some sort of paradox in the Prishvins’ negative position regarding Pilniak’s novel in the obvious genre-stylistic commonality of both works, marked by traits of expressionism and “ornamental prose”. The article also attempts to explain the reasons for the stability of relations between the two writers over the years through a certain commonality of their views in terms of the historical fate of Russia, which made them, by and large, allies in the difficult ideological struggle of the 1920s and 30s.

Sword fencing is a special sport in which swordsmen can inflict both injections and blows. We studied the indicators of mutual attacks of highly qualified male saber players at the competitions of the fencing season 2018/2019, the peculiarities of which were that this season followed the next changes in the rules of the competition and preceded the next Olympic Games. At the competitions of this period, the tactical schemes of conducting fights were tested, the sports struggle for the ratings of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and obtaining licenses for the XXXII Olympiad was conducted. The video of individual matches of saber players, which took place at the stages of the World Cup (Algeria, Budapest, Warsaw), at the Grand Prix (Cairo, Moscow, Seoul) and at the 2019 World Cup (Budapest) was used in the work. The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of the indicators of mutual attacks of saber players in the playoff rounds and in the finals of competitions. It was established that the fights of highly qualified swordsmen were characterized by the average size of mutual attacks. However, as we approached the finals and intensified the tactical confrontation of rivals, the volume of mutual attacks increased. The final fights were characterized by a reduced volume of mutual attacks. Data on the correlation of the volume of mutual attacks with the ratings of fencers are given.

An agreement seems to exist that graduates must be equipped with competences required to act successfully and appropriately in a global context. Many authors have proposed lists of competences that could form part of such a graduate profile which must be taken into account when designing internationalized curricula. However, merely listing of a competence does not guarantee that students develop it to the level expected by society. The present article reports on a meta-study based on eight Tuning studies. This meta-study compared the findings across the eight Tuning studies in terms of the different stakeholder groups’ ratings of importance and achievement of 11 global competences – generic competences valued by over 71,000 graduates, employers, students and academics in more than 100 countries and across four continents (Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia). The contribution of the meta-study presented consists in offering a possibility to identify commonalities and differences among the perceptions of the four key stakeholder groups, not only across all the individual studies but also at the level of the four continents – something never accomplished until the present date. In addition, it will help identify the competences that might require particular attention of curriculum designers and teaching teams for students to develop these competences to the level perceived as optimal in different regions of the world. Future research questions are identified with the aim to enrich and validate or fine-tune these initial findings and compensate for the limitations related to the general timeline of the 8 individual Tuning studies that the meta-study built on.
