Screen technologies increasingly permeate the experience of public space in Hong Kong. Large media walls have occupied the façades of many buildings, rendering a cityscape with dynamic information visible as a new urban skin. This article is a case study on Artificial Landscape, a site-specific media art project located on Asia Pacific’s largest LED outdoor screen. The case sets an example of how a public screen can serve as a mediating agent. It provides an opportunity for artists to provoke absent ideas in the public space and explore subversive potential, including critical reflection on issues surrounding surveillance, consumerism and rapid urban growth. The case also exemplifies how a public screen can mediate the public to experience an alternative context through artistic intervention, where negotiations of perceptions and subjectivities are made possible. This article provides insights into a public screen’s mode of spectatorship, quality of public space and curatorial strategies in an urban context. This is achieved by illustrating how various artworks extend the notion of publicness and remediate the mutually constitutive relationship among the built environment, media technologies, artists, public and everyday encounters.

This article considers how the monetization of the street art world is affecting the ecosystem of expressions found in the street. It takes as a point of departure that a central quality of street art is its potential to turn public space into a site of exploration. What is meant by this, briefly, is that the presence of ephemeral street art can motivate people to explore their surroundings and perhaps question how public space is being used and how they want it to be used. This article argues that the ongoing monetization of the street art world may lead to the fossilization of urban public space – a situation where the otherwise constant flux of visual expressions in the street may come to a halt as the growing presence of sanctioned work, along with potential financial interests in placating facilitators of such work, means that fewer spaces are available for unsanctioned interventions. This fossilization of urban public space can negatively impact street-based art’s potential to influence how we think about our environs, as well as the possibilities for emerging artists to hone their skills in the street without curatorial restrictions.

The image of contemporary Bucharest is the result of a long series of successive accumulations and destructions of the urban tissue. The trauma of the communist regime still persists in the urban voids as well as in the tense relations they generate, although they also give the town its specific contrast. In the context of rising real estate pressure on central areas, these unused resources have the potential to become the target of architectural projects, but their character, that of interstitial spaces makes them very difficult to approach. This article presents a possible approach of a site located in a protected area in the centre of Bucharest, an area that is at the same time, an example of improperly used space between the curtains of flats belonging to the 1980-1989 systematizations and the traditional urban tissue of Bucharest. Given the premises of Bucharest becoming a European cultural capital, there is a chance to question the cultural, social and architectural potential of these spaces and their use in improving the quality of the public space in Bucharest.

The article examines the impact of rapidly developing Internet technologies on the channels and methods of promoting tourist products. The authors compare two models of advertising - the traditional (offline) and digital-model in conditions of promotion of the product through the Internet. Using the example of the tourist portal of the Republic of Karelia, the authors analyze the channels of promotion (SEO-promotion, SMM-promotion in social networks, content marketing). Based on the information received from the analytical tool Yandex Metrics for the tourist portal of Karelia and third-party site analysis services, the site's quantitative and qualitative traffic is analyzed - the geography of visitors, their age structure, seasonal variations of views, the time spent by the user on the site, and the sources of this traffic. Based on the data obtained, the authors disclose the possibilities of a comprehensive analysis of the potential guests’ interest in tourist products of the region presented on the portal. It is recommended to focus on the already popular routes, while changing the form of presentation and the quality of the information about not very popular tourist products. Based on the social network Instagram, the article considers subjective user preferences of types of tourism in Karelia and tourist attractions of the region. Such analytical data coming in the monitoring mode can be used to develop the marketing strategy of the region and its tourism products.
