The construction of dams in rivers negatively affects ecosystems because dams violate the continuity of rivers, transform the biological and physical structure of the river channels, and the most importantly – alter the hydrological regime. The impact on the hydrology of the river can occur through reducing or increasing flows, altering seasonality of flows, changing the frequency, duration and timing of flow events, etc. In order to determine the extent of the mentioned changes, The Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration (IHA) software was used in this paper. The results showed that after the construction of Angiriai dam, such changes occurred in IHA Parameters group as: the water conditions of April month decreased by 31 %; 1-day, 3-days, 7-days and 30-days maximum flow decreased; the date of minimum flow occurred 21 days later; duration of high and low pulses and the frequency of low pulses decreased, but the frequency of high pulses increased, etc. The analysis of the Environmental Flow Components showed, that the essential differences were recorded in groups of the small and large floods, when, after the establishment of the Šušvė Reservoir, the large floods no longer took place and the probability of frequency of the small floods didn’t exceed 1 time per year.

This research investigates the consequence of earnings management by analyzing stock price reaction to the full set financial statement in 2008 which can be used by investors to detect earnings management by the firms. This research investigated two forms of earnings management (accrual and real earnings management). The samples is drawn from firms in IDX Statistic 2008 which categorized as active in frequency, value or volume. The method of analysis of this research used multi regression. The results show (1) discretionary accrual had negative significant influence to abnormal return, (2) abnormal cash flow from operation had negative significant influence to abnormal return. The results implicate that the investors are aware of the accrual earnings management (discretionary accrual) and real earnings management (abnormal cash flow) components in the earnings reported by the firms and they react negative to this components.

Analytical solutions converging rapidly at large and small values of times have been obtained for two mathematical models which describe the concentration distribution of a non reactive pollutant from a point source against the flow in a horizontal cross-section of a finite saturated shallow aquifer possessing uniform horizontal groundwater flow. Zero concentration or the conditions in which the flux across the extreme boundaries are proportional to the respective flow components are applied. The effects of flow and dispersion on concentration distribution are also discussed.

Specific gas-liquid interfacial area in flow tubes 70 mm in diameter of the length 725 and 1 450 mm resp. containing various swirl bodies were measured for concurrent upward flow in the ranges of average gas (air) velocities 11 to 35 ms-1 and liquid flow rates 13 to 80 m3 m-2 h-1 using the method of CO2 absorption into NaOH solutions. Two different flow regimes were observed: slug flow swirled annular-mist flow. In the latter case the determination was carried out separately for the film and spray flow components, respectively. The obtained specific areas range between 500 to 20 000 m3 m-2. Correlation parameters are energy dissipation criteria, related to the geometrical reactor volume and to the static liquid volume in the reactor.

Miocene subtidal sandwave deposits in southwest Japan were influenced by periodic flow and steady flow. The sandwave deposits can be divided into five units, based on lithofacies and thickness. In order of accretion, unit 1 consists of unidirectional sand bedforms without mud drapes, unit 2 of unidirectional sand bedforms with thin, discontinuous mud drapes, unit 3 of bidirectional sand bedforms with thin continuous mud drapes, and units 4 and 5 of relatively thinner and smaller bidirectional sand bedforms with continuous mud drapes. The thickness of units 1 to 3 increase progressively to 2.6 m, and units 4 to 5 subsequently decrease from 2.0 to 1.0 m. Variations between the units are due to differing combinations of periodic and steady flow velocities. Palaeoflow velocity is estimated from grain size and unit thickness. Depth-mean velocities of steady flow components gradually decrease from 0.72 ms−1 to 0.16 ms−1 with unit accumulation.

Three velocity components of water particles in a plunging breaker over a horizontal step on the bed of a two-dimensional laboratory wave tank have been determined simultaneously by means of an elaborate flowmeter that measures the flow drag on three ‘tension threads’, with each recording a separate flow component.It is found that all three of the r.m.s. values in the plunging breaker become maximum at x/L ≈ 0·7, where x is the distance from the breaking point to the shore and L is the wavelength. It is found that both the velocity and r.m.s. values of the transverse flow component generated by the shoaling and wave breaking become comparable to those of the other two flow components.On the basis of spectral analyses it is found that major wave frequencies in both the longitudinal and vertical flow components of the original two-dimensional wave survive even after experiencing relatively strong shoaling and wave breaking, and part of the original wave energy is transferred to the transverse flow component and is located at these major frequencies. It is found that the majority of the higher-harmonic-frequency components (or turbulent fluctuations) are generated in the shoaling process and that the wave breaking provides a relatively minor contribution to the generation. Finally, it is found that, through the shoaling and wave breaking, the original wave energy is transported to a frequency range lower than the primary wave frequency (negative cascade), as well as to the higher frequency range (positive cascade) in each flow component.
