Objective: This study aimed to investigate the current status of depression self-management (DSM), and to identify influencing factors of DSM among Chinese community residents. Methods: Stratified random sampling methodology was adopted in this cross-sectional survey. Respondents completed a collection of self-administered questionnairesResults: The majority of participants were female (72.2%), having a mean age of 39 years (SD = 17.3). The total mean score on the DSSM was low (31.63 ± 4.69). Using multiple linear regression analysis, age ranging from 25 to 64 years old (Beta = −0.176, p = 0.008), having personal stigma (Beta = −0.143, p = 0.020) and perceived stigma (Beta = 0.127, p = 0.037), and having a nuclear family structure (Beta = −0.313, p = 0.046), good family function (Beta = 0.278, p < 0.001) and good help-seeking attitude (Beta = 0.159, p = 0.008) were associated with DSSM-knowledge. Older age (≥65 years) (Beta = −0.152, p = 0.034), higher CES-D scores (Beta = −0.162, p = 0.005), having a father with a bachelor's degree or higher level of education (Beta = −0.134, p = 0.047), being female (Beta = 0.147, p = 0.012), indicating a religious preference (Beta = 0.145, p = 0.017) and having good family function (Beta = 0.247, p = 0.001) were significantly associated with DSSM-activities.Conclusions: Reducing stigma related to depression and enhancing help-seeking attitudes may be potential strategies for managing depressive symptoms among Chinese community residents.

To understand the current status of, and factors related to interpersonal sensitivity (IS) and loneliness among Chinese gay men. The Chinese version SCL-90-R was used to evaluate the status of IS, and the short-form UCLA Loneliness scale (ULS-8) was used for assessing loneliness level. Associations between demographics and IS were examined by chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regress analysis. Linear regression was used to assess the correlations between demographic factors and IS and loneliness. Dating practices and venues were summarized by multiple responses. Gay men who screened positive IS was identified in 36%. Age (OR25–29 = 8.731, 95% CI 2.296 to 33.139), education level (ORcollege = 0.037, 95% CI 0.046 to 0.911), being the only-child at home (ORyes = 4.733, 95% CI 2.293 to 9.733), monthly income (OR>7000 = 0.228, 95% CI 0.055 to 0.944), numbers of current sexual partners (OR1 = 0.285, 95% CI 0.129 to 0.629; OR2 = 0.109 95% CI 0.027 to 0.431) were related to IS. IS was also associated with a higher score of ULS-8 (β = 6.903, p < 0.001). Other variables associated with the score of ULS-8 included: living in a non-nuclear family (β = 0.998, p = 0.020), being a college student (β = −1.556, p = 0.044), having a higher monthly income (β for 3000–5000 yuan = −1.177, p = 0.045; β for over 7000 yuan = −2.207, p = 0.002), having sexual partners (all β < 1, p < 0.001), being the only-child (β = 1.393, p = 0.005). Nearly half of the sample (46.78%) reported that they looked for dating partners on the Internet or dating apps. IS and loneliness are positively correlated. Our study suggests that more humanistic care and social support should be given to Chinese gay men.

Abstract. Ultrasound has been established as an important diagnostic tool in assessing vascular abnormalities. Standard B-mode and Doppler techniques have inherent limitations with regards to detection of slow flow and small vasculature. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a complementary tool and is useful in assessing both the macro- and microvascular anatomy of the aorta. CEUS can also provide valuable physiological information in real-time scanning sessions due to the physical and safety profiles of the administered microbubbles. From a macrovascular perspective, CEUS has been used to characterize aortic aneurysm rupture, dissection and endoleaks post-EVAR repair. With regard to microvasculature CEUS enables imaging of adventitial vasa vasorum thereby assessing aortic inflammation processes, such as monitoring treatment response in chronic periaortitis. CEUS may have additional clinical utility since adventitial vasa vasorum has important implications in the pathogenesis of aortic diseases. In recent years, there have been an increasing number of studies comparing CEUS to cross-sectional imaging for aortic applications. For endoleak surveillance CEUS has been shown to be equal or in certain cases superior in comparison to CT angiography. The recent advancement of CEUS software along with the ongoing development of drug-eluting contrast microbubbles has allowed improved targeted detection and real-time ultrasound guided therapy for aortic vasa vasorum inflammation and neovascularization in animal models. Therefore, CEUS is uniquely suited to comprehensively assess and potentially treat aortic vascular diseases in the future.

Abstract. Background: Little is known about the role of resilience in the likelihood of suicidal ideation (SI) over time. Aims: We examined the association between resilience and SI in a young-adult cohort over 4 years. Our objectives were to determine whether resilience was associated with SI at follow-up or, conversely, whether SI was associated with lowered resilience at follow-up. Method: Participants were selected from the Personality and Total Health (PATH) Through Life Project from Canberra and Queanbeyan, Australia, aged 28–32 years at the first time point and 32–36 at the second. Multinomial, linear, and binary regression analyses explored the association between resilience and SI over two time points. Models were adjusted for suicidality risk factors. Results: While unadjusted analyses identified associations between resilience and SI, these effects were fully explained by the inclusion of other suicidality risk factors. Conclusion: Despite strong cross-sectional associations, resilience and SI appear to be unrelated in a longitudinal context, once risk/resilience factors are controlled for. As independent indicators of psychological well-being, suicidality and resilience are essential if current status is to be captured. However, the addition of other factors (e.g., support, mastery) makes this association tenuous. Consequently, resilience per se may not be protective of SI.

BACKGROUND The rapid development of health information technology has an increasingly significant impact on nursing work. The development of informatization also puts forward higher requirements for nurses under standardized training (NUST). Informatics knowledge and skills are essential if clinicians are to master the large volume of information generated in healthcare today. Nurses with competent nursing informatics competencies (NIC) will be able to better adapt to the needs of work and the development of the times. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore, analyze, and discuss the current situation of NIC of NUST in China, and analyze the influencing factors, to provide references for improving the NIC of NUST. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional survey of standard training nurses' NIC in a tertiary hospital in Sichuan Province, China, with convenience sampling. The study consists of two parts included socio-demographic characteristics and NIC, a self-designed general information questionnaire, and a Self-Assessment Nursing Informatics Competency Scale-SF28 were used as survey tools. An online survey collected the data, and the scores of nurses' NIC were analyzed, and the factors were determined by linear regression statistical analysis. RESULTS Overall 191 target population responded to the questionnaire, including 22 males (11.52%) and 169 females (88.48%), the age range was 21 to 28 years, the average age was 24.64 (SD 1.43). 53 persons without computer level certificate (27.75%), 138 persons with computer level certificate (72.25%), the total score of Self-Assessment Nursing Informatics Competency Scale was 68.65 (SD 10.47), the scores of each dimension were role of clinical information 10.12 (SD 2.17), basic computer knowledge and skills 26.64 (SD 4.96), application ability of computer skills 7.16 (SD 1.82), wireless equipment skills 8.02 (SD 2.04), nursing information attitude 16.73 (SD 3.25). In the analysis of influencing factors of NIC, “whether learned professional knowledge through the internet” is the influencing factor of NIC (P< .05). CONCLUSIONS The clinical nursing informatics (NC) of nurses was at a medium level, mainly influenced by “whether learned professional knowledge through the internet.” In the future regulation process, it is necessary to strengthen further the capacity training of information to improve their clinical information decision-making ability and better serve patients.

BACKGROUND Job burnout is an occupational illness with high prevalence among nurses in China. The job burnout status among hemodialysis nurses should be given more attention because of they handle sophisticated machinery, and there is a high risk of infection in hemodialysis nursing. OBJECTIVE The level and influencing factors of job burnout among hemodialysis nurses in mainland China were investigated. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study conducted in all 31 provinces of mainland China in 2019. Data from nurses responsible for direct care in 2738 hemodialysis units were analyzed. An effective response rate of 99.00% (10570/10677) was achieved. Hemodialysis nurse burnout was measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Working atmosphere and interpersonal relationships with colleagues were each measured by a single question. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the factors related to nurse burnout. Structural equation modeling was used to explore the effect of the working environment, individual factors, and specialist nurse training on the HD nurse burnout and the intention to leave. RESULTS The total burnout score was 38.69 (SD17.47), indicating that the level of job burnout among hemodialysis nurses in mainland China was relatively low. Hemodialysis nurses experienced low-level burnout on the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization subscale and high-level burnout on the personal accomplishment subscale. Statistically significant differences in burnout levels were associated with working atmosphere, interpersonal relationships with colleagues, specialist nurse training, number of children, night shift, and marital status. CONCLUSIONS The burnout level of HD nurses in mainland China was relatively low. Working atmosphere, interpersonal relationships with colleagues, and training of specialist nurses are the most important influencing factors regarding job burnout in hemodialysis nurses. Therefore, it is suggested that improving the working atmosphere and interpersonal relationship processing ability and providing more training opportunities for nurses can alleviate job burnout in nurses.
