Purpose: This article is based on a study that explored learning processes related to intercultural competence of PE teacher trainees. The context of the study was the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The study was conducted in connection to two courses that focused on equality in physical education and sport in 2020–2021.Methods: Adopting an interpretive, as well as a critical approach, the authors focused on how the students described their conceptions and learning experiences. Based on their analysis they have then aimed to shed light on how interculturality, equality, equity, and diversity may be addressed in higher education in a more profound manner. The students' accounts were analyzed first through an open reading and subsequently through a more critical lens. The analysis was supported by theories of transformative learning, embodied learning, and intercultural education.Results: Students' initial interest toward equity, equality, and interculturality seemed to expand during the courses. They increasingly reflected on the complexity of these issues and discussed the widening professional responsibilities of future PE teachers in promoting equality and supporting pupils in cultural heterogeneous classes. Discussions and practical activities that involved emotional and embodied elements seemed to be important in facilitating their learning processes. However, it is difficult to foresee how permanent the changes in their habits of mind and subsequent actions are.Discussion: The authors suggest that embodied, practical approaches where the student is fully engaged in the learning process, and where conceptual, reflective, emotional, and affective levels are connected, may be a key in developing teachers' intercultural competence. They also suggest that it is crucial to revise higher education curricula from the perspectives of intercultural competence and structural inequality. In addition to separate courses, equality, equity, and diversity should be seen as red threads throughout higher education.

The discourse of reform in higher education tends to focus narrowly on employability and the relationship between higher education and the labor market. Universities as research institutions are now considered solely in the dominant discourse of innovation. This way of conceiving universities is inspired by functionalist theory that focuses on the imperatives of a knowledge economy. Taking a departure in the theory of society developed by Jürgen Habermas this paper seeks to provide a theoretical framework for an empirical comparative analysis on the wider societal impact of universities. It is the argument that the wider impacts of higher education and research at universities must be seen in a more complex vision of modern societies. The paper is thus primarily a re-reading of Habermas’ critique of functionalist views of the university and an application of Habermas’ critique on current issues in the debates on higher education. A special discussion will be taken on issues of the self in view of the current tendencies to regard all education from the standpoint of the economic outputs.

  The Hungarian Educational System, the Higher Education also Teacher Education have been constantly changing over the past decades. According to the results of international and domestic examinations, there is an increasing need for new standards and approaches,  in the entire Public Education, especially Teacher Education sector. The purpose of our study was to examine the key aspects of the mentoring process in physical education. We were trying to identify those special factors and identify new trends in the area of physical education. What is the role of these factors in the process of professional development of a teacher.

The author of this article presensts the structure of physical education and sports at the academic level at Notre Dame University in South Bend Indiana. The first part describes the historical aspect, the most important dates, names of the university. The next part is an analysis of the program of physical education classes, sports facilities and budget for sport. In the last part, the author attempted to present a episode of his qualitative research at Notre Dame University during his stay in 20122014. The research concerned the professional satisfaction of physical education teachers at the University of Notre Dame.

Starościak Wojciech, Dębska Urszula, Guła-Kubiszewska Halina, Designing professional career by students – physical education teachers. „Kultura – Społeczeństwo – Edukacja” nr 2(14) 2018, Poznań 2018, pp. 183–203, Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-0422. DOI 10.14746/kse.2018.14.14. The study identified physical education students’ opinions about and vision of personal career. It was conducted with a questionnaire designed by A. Cybal-Michalska for planning career prospects and career development in modern society by academic youth. Results demonstrate the professional expectations of the sample to be largely met. Students of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw are oriented towards individualistic and collectivistic values to a similar extent. Both groups are moderately satisfied with study choices and have a realistic outlook on the difficulties in finding a job consistent withtheir education. They assess the prospect of a satisfactory career on an equally moderate level, although individualist-oriented students perceive significantly fewer ways of achieving professional success. Collectivistic students emphasize values characteristic of a safe future and working with people and for people. Individualistic students are geared towards innovative and creative activities. Students perceive their careers in the psychological dimension, and select lifestyle and professionalism as the lead guides in career development.

This chapter focuses on blended learning towards social capital by showing the experience of Methodology of Social Research II, the blended learning training course held at the Faculty of Education of the University of Genoa (A.Y. 2010/2011). Blended learning engages disciplinary, technical, and relational skills so that human capital and social capital are empowered. The evidence is that in higher education blended learning empowers teaching/learning processes and student achievement providing active student engagement into participatory processes promoted in educational and evaluation activities, involving students in balanced relationships with peers and teacher facilitated by new technologies and tutorship.

The context for the present study is the one-year initial teacher education course for postgraduates specialising in physical education at the secondary level. The research focus is on the conflicts which pre service teachers experience during the school practice element of a University- School Partnership Scheme based on the new government criteria and procedures introduced in the DFE Circular No. 9/92 for England and Wales. Fifty-three postgraduate students completed report forms about their teaching concerns at the end of each week of a six-week and an eleven-week block practice, and, of the 1510 concerns reported, 257 (17.02%) were classed as conflicts. A content analysis of the 'conflict' concerns revealed four general categories of conflict, and these were related to school staff and peers, the school and university working procedures, the demands from the school and the university, and beliefs and values about the teaching profession. The paper argues that such conflicts are viewed with much apprehension by pre-service teachers because of the additional responsibilities and powers placed on school subject mentors and the more limited time available in the university to prepare for the practical activities. Therefore, it is suggested that University-School Partnership Schemes should build in arrangements that give pre service teachers the opportunity to resolve deep-seated problems by being able to approach neutral staff from either the university or the school.

In this article the actual questions arising at the organization and carrying out of discipline of physical education of students of special medical groups in higher education institutions are considered. The authors, based on many years of experience in the University, propose to develop and implement a model of formation of the profile-developing environment for students of special medical groups. Ways to increase the interest of students with disabilities (with diseases of the musculoskeletal system) to systematic physical education are divided into blocks and studied from a scientific point of view. The General model consists of three blocks. In each block, the issues of rehabilitation of students with diseases of the musculo-skeletal system are comprehensively studied. Connectivism concept introduced by George Siemens seems to be accurate when considering current-learning processes in higher education. The author emphasises the role of socially embedded learning that can take place out of human bodies, in devices. The main aim of this work was to analyse students’ and academic teacher’s experiences related to cooperating through a network and creating mind maps as a result of learning in the frame of the conducted course at the University. The data was collected during the course through Mentimeter tool, which enabled the author to learn students’ opinions, reflections and associations related to the process of working on electronic mind maps. Students were also asked to write reflective essays where they described their experiences associated to the mind map that were significant from the perspective of learning at the University. The results of the analysis were presented below.

La implantación del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, dentro de una nueva cultura de la calidad en la enseñanza superior, nos hace plantearnos sobre qué aspectos son los que dan calidad a la misma. Entre los factores de calidad de la enseñanza superior se encuentran, la orientación en las Universidades y el análisis de la inserción laboral de los egresados. En el texto presentamos una investigación llevada a cabo a seis promociones de egresados de Magisterio especialistas en Educación Física en la Universidad de Sevilla (N=292). A partir de los datos obtenidos observamos que un 95% de la población encuestada no pide orientación laboral o profesional durante la carrera y que un 63% encuentra un primer trabajo relacionado con el mundo de la actividad física y el deporte, mientras que un 37% su trabajo está relacionado con otros temas. Por tanto, concluimos que la mayoría de los egresados de Magisterio especialistas en Educación Física no reciben orientación para su inserción laboral por lo que no todos consiguen empleos relacionados con el mundo de la actividad física y el deporte.Palabra clave: Orientación profesional, tránsito hacia la vida activa, egresados y Educación Física.Abstract: The introduction of the European Higher Education Area in a new culture of quality in Higher Education, makes us ask about the aspects that give quality to it. Among the quality factors in Higher Education we can find: University guidance and analysis of the graduate´s incorporation into the labour world. In this article we present the research we did in conducted at the six classes of graduates of Teaching in Physical Education from the University of Seville (N = 292). From the data we obteined, we can observe that 95% of the surveyed population does not ask for work or professional guidance during their degree and 63% of the surveyed population find their first job connected with the world of sport and physical activity, while 37% of this population has a work connected with other topics. Thus, we can conclude that most graduates of Teaching in Physical Education do not receive guidance for their incorporation into the labour world. This is why no everygraduate can get a job connected with the world of sport and physical activity.Key words: Career guidance, transition to working life, graduates and Physical Education.
