This study aimed to determine whether proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) morphology was related to knee alignment in osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Methods: 67 OA patients were enrolled in this study. The morphology of the PTFJ including articular shape type, articular surface area, joint inclination, relative articular height, and joint declination were measured from 3D models. The knee alignment of each subject was characterized as varus, normal, or valgus according to the femorotibial angle (FTA). The FTA was measured on weight-bearing X-rays. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between PTFJ morphology and knee alignment. Results: there were significant differences between varus, valgus, and normal FTA groups in terms of shape type (p = 0.021), inclination of the PTFJ (p = 0.025), relative articular height (p = 0.019), and PTFJ declination angle (p = 0.011). A higher relative articular height (OR: 0.608, 95% CI: 0.205–0.998, and p = 0.017) and lower declination angle (OR: 0.632, 95% CI: 0.601–0.887, and p =0.019) were found to be associated with an increased likelihood of having a valgus FTA rather than a varus FTA. Conclusion: our results indicate that PTFJ morphology is associated with knee alignment.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the morphology of the proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) and the presence of knee osteoarthritis (OA).Methods: Twenty-eight OA subjects and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. A 3D model of the lower limb of each subject was constructed from CT scans and used to measure the characteristics of the PTFJ, including the shape of the articular facets, articular surface area, joint inclination, relative articular height, and joint declination. The association between the characteristics of the PTFJ and presence of knee OA was assessed using binomial logistic regression analysis.Results: There was a significant difference between the OA and healthy groups in terms of the inclination (p = 0.028) and declination (p = 0.020) of the PTFJ and relative articular height (p = 0.011). A greater inclination angle (OR: 1.463, 95% CI: 1.124–1.582, p = 0.021), greater declination angle (OR: 1.832, 95% CI: 1.691–2.187, p = 0.009), and lower relative articular height (OR: 0.951, 95% CI: 0.826–0.992, p = 0.008) were found to be associated with an increased likelihood of knee OA being present.Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that abnormal PTFJ morphology is associated with the presence of knee OA.

Abstract Background: Intra-articular calcaneal fracture is a challenge for surgeons, which must be understood to provide optimal treatment. The aim of this study was to define the distribution of the primary fracture line and the secondary fracture line of intra-articular calcaneal fractures. Methods: All X-rays and CT scans of intra-articular calcaneal fractures were collected from January 2014 to July 2020. According to the classification of Essex-Lopresti, these fractures were divided into tongue-fracture group and compression-fracture group. Construct 3D models of intra-articular calcaneal fractures in all patients, and record the location of all fracture lines, which were marked and integrated on the 3D model of intact calcaneus after virtual reduction. Heat mapping were created based on the occurrence frequency of fracture lines. Results: A total of 171 patients with intra-articular calcaneal fractures were included in this study, 4 of whom were bilateral. There were 87 cases in the tongue-fracture group, 37 cases (42.5%) involved 4 anterior articular surface, 16 cases (18.4%) involved middle articular surface, and 52 cases (59.8%) involved calcanecuboid articular surface. There were 88 cases in the compression-fracture group, including 43 cases (48.9%) involving anterior articular surface, 21 cases (23.9%) involving middle articular surface, and 63 cases (71.6%) involving calcanecuboid articular surface. Conclusion: The distribution of the primary fracture line and the secondary fracture line of intra-articular calcaneal fractures has a certain rule and correlation. Whether in tongue-fracture group or compression-fracture group, the fracture line is most often involves the calcanecuboid articular surface, followed by anterior articular surface, at least involves middlearticular surface. This study provides a theoretical basis for further exploration of calcaneal injury mechanism, construction of biomechanical model, and choice of surgical approach.

Objectives: Proximal tibiofibular joint luxation is very rare condition and usually missed in the ED. The aim of the study is if a patient is brought to ED with knee injury, we should keep in mind this pathology. Methods: A 23 year old man was admitted to emergency department with knee pain and restricted movement of the knee during the football match. Physical examination revealed mild swelling and limited ROM on his knee. We took AP and lateral X-rays immediately. We diagnosed the proximal tibiofibular luxation with X-rays. After diagnosing this injury we reducted this joint luxation with closed reduction immediately. Knee joint was immobilized with casting. Magnetic resonance imaging was applied. Casting was removed three weeks later after the diagnosis. Passive range of motion exercises were applied. Results: In the second month examination, there is no pain in his knee joint and the range of motion was full. There was no neoruvascular pathology in the physical examination of the knee. In the MRI findings proximal tibiofibular ligament had mild eudema, there was a contusion area in the lateral plateau and the other knee ligaments was normal. Conclusion: Proximal tibiofibular joint injury is very uncommon pathology, If the pathology is diagnosed on time , it can be treated appropriately to prevent unnecessary complication. The main problem of this injury is correct and timely diagnosis

Opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) is a surgical procedure that aims to correct the weight-bearing axis of the knee, moving the loads laterally from the medial compartment. Conventional indications for OWHTO are medial compartment osteoarthritis and varus malalignment of the knee; recently OWHTO has been used successfully in the treatment of double and triple varus. OWHTO, in contrast to closing wedge high tibial osteotomy, does not require fibular osteotomy or peroneal nerve dissection, or lead to disruption of the proximal tibiofibular joint and bone stock loss. For these reasons, interest in this procedure has grown in recent years.The aim of this study is to review the literature on OWHTO, considering indications and prognostic factors (body mass index, grade of osteoarthritis, instability, range of movement and age), outcomes at midterm follow-up, and limits of the procedure (slope modifications, patellar height changes and difficulties in conversion to a total knee arthroplasty).

BACKGROUND: For psychiatric patients, the issue of falling is complex. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare the risk factors for falling in psychiatric inpatients and general ward inpatients who had fallen. METHODS: The researchers first derived official fall records for 122 psychiatric inpatients and then selected 122 psychiatric inpatients who had not fallen as well as 122 general ward patients who had fallen, matched for gender, age, and length of hospital stay at the time of the fall incident. RESULTS: After controlling other variables, multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that psychiatric inpatients who had fallen and had dizziness (odds ratio [OR] = 7.11, p < .001), had an unsteady gait (OR = 1.97, p = .030), or were not using aids (OR = 0.42, p = .042) were at greater risk of falling than those who had not fallen. The researchers also found that general ward inpatients who had fallen and had higher Charlson Comorbidity Index scores (OR = 1.77, p < .001), were clear-headed (OR = 27.15, p = .001), had dizziness (OR = 11.55, p < .001), were unable to walk (OR = 64.28, p < .001), or were using aids (OR = 3.86, p = .001) were at greater risk of falling than those who had not fallen before. CONCLUSIONS: The causes of falling among psychiatric inpatients and general ward inpatients are different. Medical personnel should understand the medications and attributes of patients for an accurate assessment of their risk factors for falling and thus implement fall prevention measures and health education to reduce falls.

Face mask use is a critical behavior to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. We aimed to evaluate the association between social integration and face mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic in a random sample of households in Utsunomiya City, Greater Tokyo, Japan. Data included 645 adults in the Utsunomiya COVID-19 seROprevalence Neighborhood Association (U-CORONA) study, which was conducted after the first wave of the pandemic, between 14 June 2020 and 5 July 2020, in Utsunomiya City. Social integration before the pandemic was assessed by counting the number of social roles, based on the Cohen’s social network index. Face mask use before and during the pandemic was assessed by questionnaire, and participants were categorized into consistent mask users, new users, and current non-users. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between lower social integration score and face mask use. To account for possible differential non-response bias, non-response weights were used. Of the 645 participants, 172 (26.7%) were consistent mask users and 460 (71.3%) were new users, while 13 (2.0%) were current non-users. Lower social integration level was positively associated with non-users (RRR: 1.76, 95% CI: 1.10, 2.82). Social integration may be important to promote face mask use.

Summary Background Visuo-Constructive functions have considerable potential for the early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression in Alzheimer’s disease. Objectives Using the Vienna Visuo-Constructional Test 3.0 (VVT 3.0), we measured visuo-constructive functions in subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and healthy controls to determine whether VVT performance can be used to distinguish these groups. Materials and methods Data of 671 participants was analyzed comparing scores across diagnostic groups and exploring associations with relevant clinical variables. Predictive validity was assessed using Receiver Operator Characteristic curves and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results We found significant differences between AD and the other groups. Identification of cases suffering from visuo-constructive impairment was possible using VVT scores, but these did not permit classification into diagnostic subgroups. Conclusions In summary, VVT scores are useful indicators for visuo-constructive impairment but face challenges when attempting to discriminate between several diagnostic groups.

Abstract Background There are substantial socioeconomic status (SES) differences in sports activity (SA) during the transition to retirement. In line with social-ecological models, the aim of this longitudinal study was to examine the association of perceptions of social and physical neighborhood factors with changes in SA across the retirement transition and to examine potential interactions with SES factors. Methods Data from 6 waves of the German Ageing Survey (DEAS) provided 710 participants (at baseline: mean age 61.1, 52.9% of men) who retired between baseline (1996, 2002, 2008, 2011) and their 6-year follow-up assessment. Associations between changes in SA (increases and decreases compared to retaining) and individual SES and neighborhood factors were estimated using multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results Increases were observed in 18.45% of participants, decreases in 10%. Occupational prestige was a risk factor for decreases, education a resource for increases in SA. Interactions between household income and several neighborhood factors were observed. Conclusions In line with social-ecological models, individual, neighborhood factors and interacting associations were found. In particular safety perceptions could be a resource for promotion SA in older adults who experience disadvantage.
