This study aims to analyze the savings and loans scheme at the Family Welfare Empowerment Organization (FWEO) at the Neighborhood Association (NA) XY, Karanganyar Regency, during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. This study uses a qualitative approach with the method of observation and interviews. Observations observe the object of research when transacting savings and loans and the distribution of residual income. Interviews confirmed people who are directly related to the savings and loans activities at FWEO of NA XY including the chairperson, fund administrator of FWEO and Muslim borrowers. The results of the study show that the savings and loans activities at FWEO of NA XY are family-based community activities and prioritize the principle of ta'awun or mutual assistance. One of the assistance is given to Muslims members of FWEO and suffering from financial difficulties during the pandemic outbreak. The principle of ta'awun is reflected by the scheme of savings, loans and the ease use of residual income and based on trust among members. This fact supports the findings that the existence of FWEO in NA XY makes it easier for Muslims to obtain funds as well as to ease the economic burden, especially for those affected by Covid-19.

This ethnographic study of a neighborhood association focuses on the process of organizing residents to collective action. Situated in the post-industrial city of Buffalo, New York, the Urban Community Collaborative (UCC) employs two main governing techniques: (1) “taking responsibility” and (2)“working collaboratively” that emphasizes the rationality of “active citizenship” and the formation of horizontally linked collaborative partnerships to address perceived urban social problems. Similar to previous studies, we view this political rationality as a discursive constitution that shapes the actions of the members of the UCC (Atkinson, 1999; Schofield, 20002). This political rationality invokes neoliberal discourses of individual responsibility, entrepreneurship, and community partnership in place of a dependency on the government. We find residents utilizing moral techniques of responsibilization which entails calling on their neighbors to “take responsibility” and to “work collaboratively” with one another and paradoxically, with the government itself in revitalization efforts.

Communication between members of the community within the Neighborhood Association (RT) is often hampered due to the activities of each resident, making it difficult for the residents to share important information with each other. This study aims to build a mobile-based application as a communication medium for citizens in the RT environment. The research method used is the waterfall system development method which includes requirements analysis and definition, system and software design, implementation and unit testing, integration and system testing, and operation and maintenance. The results show that the mobile-based E-Warga Application can be used as a communication medium for citizens. The mobile-based E-Warga application helps the public to share important information, access various services and information needed.

Antimicrobial resistance is a major healthcare threat globally. Xanthines, including caffeine and pentoxifylline, are attractive candidates for drug repurposing, given their well-established safety and pharmacological profiles. This study aimed to analyze potential interactions between xanthines and aromatic antibiotics (i.e., tetracycline and ciprofloxacin), and their impact on antibiotic antibacterial activity. UV-vis spectroscopy, statistical-thermodynamical modeling, and isothermal titration calorimetry were used to quantitatively evaluate xanthine-antibiotic interactions. The antibacterial profiles of xanthines, and xanthine-antibiotic mixtures, towards important human pathogens Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Enterobacter cloacae were examined. Caffeine and pentoxifylline directly interact with ciprofloxacin and tetracycline, with neighborhood association constant values of 15.8–45.6 M−1 and enthalpy change values up to −4 kJ·M−1. Caffeine, used in mixtures with tested antibiotics, enhanced their antibacterial activity in most pathogens tested. However, antagonistic effects of caffeine were also observed, but only with ciprofloxacin toward Gram-positive pathogens. Xanthines interact with aromatic antibiotics at the molecular and in vitro antibacterial activity level. Given considerable exposure to caffeine and pentoxifylline, these interactions might be relevant for the effectiveness of antibacterial pharmacotherapy, and may help to identify optimal treatment regimens in the era of multidrug resistance.

Neighborhoods may contribute to the maintenance of inequality in well-being across generations. We use 35 years of restricted geo-coded NLSY 1979 and NLSY Children and Young Adults data to estimate the association between multigenerational exposure to childhood neighborhood disadvantage and subsequent adult exposure. Invoking cousin fixed effects models that adjust for unobserved legacies of disadvantage that cascade across generations, we find that families where both parents and their children are exposed to childhood neighborhood disadvantage are likely to pass on the legacy of neighborhood disadvantage to successive generations, net of observed and unobserved confounders. Second, we find a direct intergenerational neighborhood association, net of observed and unobserved confounders. Third, we find that unobserved confounders nested in previous generations explain away the intragenerational neighborhood association. These findings reorient neighborhood theory to more seriously attend to the interdependence of neighborhood level and individual level antecedents of inequality across generations.

The evaluation of community service activities (CSA) for the regional superior product development program (RSDP) is to analyze qurban behavior and the determining factors that influence program decisions. A survey of 87 participants in the CSQI program surgery was conducted online from several groups, both experienced and inexperienced as committee members and qurban worship participants. The results of the evaluation of potential candidates for qurban participants show that generally the sources of information coming from academics, practitioners and the bureaucracy are interested (56.17%) to participate in the CSQM program, while the parties have not decided (42.52%) and are not interested at all (2,29%). A person's experience both in participating in the management of qurban activities and as a participant does not significantly influence their decision to join the CSQI program. The decision to participate in the CSQI program is determined by the payment system, the information they receive and the level of their readiness to face qurban activities in the next period. Based on the results of the evaluation, it can be concluded that the promotion and marketing policies of the CSQI program need to be improved or modified in order to provide clear information and provide an alternative arisan (installment) repayment system and so that the effectiveness is focused on the target market segment in the form of religious-related qurban management institutions, offices and neighborhood association.

Face mask use is a critical behavior to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. We aimed to evaluate the association between social integration and face mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic in a random sample of households in Utsunomiya City, Greater Tokyo, Japan. Data included 645 adults in the Utsunomiya COVID-19 seROprevalence Neighborhood Association (U-CORONA) study, which was conducted after the first wave of the pandemic, between 14 June 2020 and 5 July 2020, in Utsunomiya City. Social integration before the pandemic was assessed by counting the number of social roles, based on the Cohen’s social network index. Face mask use before and during the pandemic was assessed by questionnaire, and participants were categorized into consistent mask users, new users, and current non-users. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between lower social integration score and face mask use. To account for possible differential non-response bias, non-response weights were used. Of the 645 participants, 172 (26.7%) were consistent mask users and 460 (71.3%) were new users, while 13 (2.0%) were current non-users. Lower social integration level was positively associated with non-users (RRR: 1.76, 95% CI: 1.10, 2.82). Social integration may be important to promote face mask use.
