Satisfactory weatherproofing of buildings is vital to maximise their design life and performance which requires the careful design of external sealing technologies. Systems commonly available have served well in conventional construction however with many prefabricated systems emerging in the building industry new and novel means of weatherproofing between panels and modules need to be developed purpose specific to this application. This paper presents a holistic and fundamental methodological approach to Design and Development of waterproof seals and has been applied specific for prefabricated panelised and modular systems. Two purpose specific weatherproof seals are finally presented. Flow charts of the overview of the suggested methodological approach and the processes within which include DfMA that have been incorporated into understanding and developing seals for this practical application. These strategies have enabled a resourceful and holistic set of processes that can be adapted and used for similar forms of product research in new and developing areas of construction such as prefabrication. The design and development process is thoroughly investigated and has resulted in an exploration of the technical challenges and potential solutions which take into consideration factors from installation limitations to building tolerances.

The artistic education areas in didactic process are articulated with different weight. The aim of this chapter is theoretical substantiating of reference marks for methodological integralization of artistic education. This chapter analyses the impact of artistic education arias to general education. Based on hypothesis that inconsistent methodological approach of the artistic education demarches in different schooling stages, it is confirming the coherence of our society in realizing the formation/development process of the pupil's personality through and for the art. Thus, in context of methodological integration the ideal of integral personality on the affective, attitude, cognitive, cultural line belongs to artistic education arias. It will offer new perspectives for the theoretical conceptualization, design and development of innovative educational-artistic methodologies and technologies.

Peptides represent a promising class of biorecognition elements that can be coupled to electrochemical transducers. The benefits lie mainly in their stability and selectivity toward a target analyte. Furthermore, they can be synthesized rather easily and modified with specific functional groups, thus making them suitable for the development of novel architectures for biosensing platforms, as well as alternative labelling tools. Peptides have also been proposed as antibiofouling agents. Indeed, biofouling caused by the accumulation of biomolecules on electrode surfaces is one of the major issues and challenges to be addressed in the practical application of electrochemical biosensors. In this review, we summarise trends from the last three years in the design and development of electrochemical biosensors using synthetic peptides. The different roles of peptides in the design of electrochemical biosensors are described. The main procedures of selection and synthesis are discussed. Selected applications in clinical diagnostics are also described.

AbstractThis paper discusses the uses and applications of the Pedagogy of Experience Complexity for Smart Learning (PECSL), a four-tier model of considerations for the design and development of smart learning activities. Using existing mobile apps and relevant activities as illustrative examples, the PECSL is applied to indicate concepts and mechanisms by which useful pedagogical considerations can work alongside user-centred design principles for the design and development of smart learning in urban hyper-localities. Practical application of the model is discussed using real world examples of activities as a basis to demonstrate the potential for manifold opportunities to learn, and plan for experience complexity in a smart learning activity. Case study approaches reflect on aspects of the PECSL in how it might be a useful and pragmatic guide to some of the issues faced when designing digital citizen learning activities in complex urban environments.

Abstract This paper describes a model of how reordering tasks in the engineering design and development process affects resource usage in a risky environment. All development projects are risky; their outcome and level of success is unpredictable. Many projects are canceled at some time during the development process, or never produce a working product or produce a product that fails in the marketplace. Doing engineering development is expensive; it requires high-cost labor as well as other potentially expensive resources. To some extent the magnitude of the risk is estimable; it is possible to predict now much resources (time, labor or other costs) any particular development task will consume as well as some estimate of whether or not an insurmountable technical problem is likely to be discovered. Also, development tasks are not independent; there are constraints on their ordering due to needed technical knowledge. The model presented in this paper uses those estimates to suggest an ordering of the tasks in an attempt to minimize the expected resource consumption for those projects that run a risk of cancellation.

Many offshore installations in the North Sea have now exceeded their original design life and are in a life extension phase. A Framework of six processes has been developed for the management of ageing of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) in offshore installations. The processes include an analysis of the effect of ageing modes on SCE performance. Examples of performance indicators for typical SCEs are proposed based on how their condition and performance as may be affected by physical deterioration and other effects of ageing. Indicators for calibrating the maturity and effectiveness of the management processes are also suggested.

The Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) can solve some practical application problems of the traditional paper technical manuals on storing difficulty and resource sharing inefficiency well. The S1000D specification is an international specification of development IETM. In the paper the S1000D specification is introduced briefly. Then the meanings of Data Module (DM) and Common Source Database (CSDB) which are the core concepts of the S1000D specification are analyzed. At last, the development process of IETM based on S1000D specification is given.
