Adolescents’ problematic use of the internet and the risk of sexual online victimization are an increasing concern among families, researchers, professionals and society. This study aimed to analyze the interplay between adolescents’ addiction to social networks and internet, body self-esteem and sexual–erotic risk behavior online: sexting, sextortion and grooming. While sexting refers to the voluntary engagement in texting sexual–erotic messages, sextortion and grooming are means of sexual–erotic victimization through the use of the internet. Participants were 1763 adolescents (51% girls), aged 12 to 16 years (M = 14.56; SD = 1.16), from public (n = 1068; 60.60%) and private (n = 695; 39.40%) high schools in the Basque Country (Spain). We carried out structural equation modeling (SEM) using Mplus to assess the mediating effects of body self-esteem in the relationship between addiction to social media and internet and sexual–erotic risk behavior. The results showed that internet addiction predicts online sexual victimization; specifically, the best predictors of sexting, sextortion and grooming victimization were symptoms of internet addiction and geek behavior. Body self-esteem and sexting mediated the relationship between internet addiction and sexual online victimization in adolescents. These results highlight the importance of attending to adolescents’ mental health regarding their online behavior, considering the risk and protective factors involved, due to its close association with online sexual victimization.

Internet addiction is the most rising tool of the present era. Undoubtedly, it has left a strong influence on the minds of youth. Like other parts of the world use of the internet is quite common in Pakistan. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between internet addiction, shyness, and self-esteem of Pakistani youth. 120 young students; male (n=60) females (n=60) were selected through purposive sampling. The researchers explored how excessive use of the internet brings problems and how all these problems reflect in their behavior. It highlighted how at this point, emerges the significance of self-esteem and shyness. Internet Addiction Test (IAT) developed by Dr. Kimberly Young (1998), the collective self-esteem scale (CSES) developed by Riia Luhtanen and Jennifer Crooker, 1992 and 1994, and Shyness scale developed by Cheek & Melichor (1985) were used in the present study to measure internet addiction self-esteem and shyness of Pakistani youth. The results of the study indicated that all study variables have a significant positive correlation with each other. It is found that female students have significantly higher scores on shyness as compared to male students and students of private institutes have significantly higher scores on internet addiction than students of public institutes. One of the reasons may be that students of private institutes have more easy access to the internet as compared to public students. The present study indicated that master’s level students have significantly higher scores on private collective self-esteem and shyness as compared to bachelor’s students.

The relationship between emotion management skills and the use of the Internet was examined in this study to determine whether or not the emotion management skills of university students are a predictor of Internet addiction. The study was conducted in the 2008/2009 academic year with 345 students from different departments of a university in Turkey. Data were collected using the Emotion Management Skills Inventory (Çeçen, 2006) and the Problematic Internet Usage Scale (Ceyhan, Ceyhan, & Gürcan, 2007). Results of regression analysis showed that the total measure of emotion management skills predicted the levels of Internet addiction.

Abstract:The widespread use of the Internet has facilitated that young people become sexually active on the Internet. Some studies suggest that alcohol consumption or abuse of Internet are factors that influence the practice of cybersex. For this reason, we propose this work in order to explore the relationship between these variables and cybersex. Taking a sample of 127 students 14 years old, we have found that there is a deep relationship between Internet abuse, cybersex, and different aspects of alcohol consumption. From these results, we discuss important implications for the nosological status and general knowledge of Internet sex.Keywords: Cybersex, Internet addiction, Alcohol, teenagersResumen:El uso generalizado de Internet ha facilitado que cada vez sean más los jóvenes que inician su actividad sexual en Internet. Algunos estudios apuntan que el consumo de alcohol o el abuso de Internet son factores que influyen en la práctica del cibersexo, por lo que planteamos este trabajo con el objetivo de explorar la relación entre cibersexo y las variables mencionadas. Tomando una muestra de 127 estudiantes de 14 años, se constata que efectivamente existe una profunda relación entre consumo abusivo de Internet y cibersexo, y que éstas a su vez se relacionan con distintos  aspectos del consumo de alcohol. Основанный на концепции британского экзистенциального психолога Р. Лэйнга конструкт невоплощенности в интернете (Н. В. Коптева, А. Ю. Калугин, Л. Я. Дорфман) посредством одноименной методики сопоставляется с системообразующим последствием нормативного применения интернета – изменением психологических границ в методике их оценки (МИГ-ТС-2) Е. И. Рассказовой, В. А. Емелина, А. Ш. Тхостова. Выявлены взаимосвязи измерений невоплощенности в интернете с параметрами изменения психологических границ, которые могут свидетельствовать о том, что искусственное технологическое разделение между ментальным Я и физическим телом пользователя создает предпосылки путаницы на границе между Я и не Я. Расширение и размывание границ интернет-пользователя усиливают его виртуализацию и соответствующие ей переживания деперсонализации, утраты реальности независимо от того, оправдывает или не оправдывает технология его ожидания достижимости и контролируемости окружающих людей, объектов и информации. Мотивация предпочтения интернета, связанная с возможностями, которые открывают независимость от физического тела и измененные границы, в значительной мере совпадает. Простота и легкость развоплощенного технологического способа бытия в расширенных, размытых границах придают привлекательность сети и объясняют связь невоплощенности с интернет-зависимостью, которую можно представить как искажение нормативного технологического развоплощения в случае проблемной пользовательской активности. In the present study we compare the construct of disembodiment on the Internet (N. V. Kopteva, A.Ju. Kalugin, L.Ya. Dorfman) based on the clinical conception by the British existential psychologist R. Laing and measured by the same-name technique to the framework consequence of the normative use of the Internet - changes of the psychological borders (E. I. Rasskazova, V. A. Emelin and A. Sh. Tkhostov) assessed by MIG-TS-2 technique. We identified the relationship between measurements of disembodiment and parameters of changes of psychological borders which may indicate that artificial technological split between the mental self and the physical body of a user creates conditions for confusion on the boundary between self and non-self. Expansion and blurring of the borders of an Internet user reinforces virtualizationinduced experiences of depersonalization and loss of reality regardless of whether the technology meets their expectations of availability and controllability of other people, objects and information or doesn’t. Motivation of Internet preference due to the opportunities that independence of the physical body and changes of boundaries present mostly follows the same pattern. Simplicity and easiness of the disembodied technological way of being within the expanded blurry borders makes the Web attractive and explains the relationship between the disembodiment and Internet addiction which can be viewed as distortion of normative technological disembodiment in cases of problematic user’s activity.

The current paper presents the results from some research on the relationship between In-ternet addiction, cyberchondria, and different aspects of well-being. The information available on the Internet, which is not necessarily truthful and accurate, can unreasonably amplify users health concerns. Problematic Internet use, health anxiety aroused by online searches for health information and escalation of health concerns as an indicator of cyberchondria, are all associated with a decrease in subjective and eudaimonic well-being as well as in self-esteem. The analyses indicate positive relationships between depressive symptoms on the one hand, and Internet ad-diction and health anxiety, on the other. A conclusion regarding the existence of a relationship between Internet addiction, cyberchondria and decreased levels of well-being could be drawn from the research. Furthermore, the results suggest that self-esteem and eudaimonic well-being correlate positively with the number of people with whom users communicate online.

Reading comprehension is a complex mental performance of an individual, which is strongly influenced by the modern phenomenon of the use of the Internet. The main goal of the study is to examine the relationship between foreign language reading comprehension (in English and German) and the Internet use (time spent on the Internet, the Internet addiction). The results of the research confirmed negative relationship between the time spent online and reading comprehension in German. Internet addiction is positively correlated with reading comprehension in English, this relationship is influenced by demographic variables of students’ gender and the type of school attended.

Adolescents’ addictive use of social media and the internet is an increasing concern among parents, teachers, researchers and society. The purpose was to examine the contribution of body self-esteem, personality traits, and demographic factors in the prediction of adolescents’ addictive use of social media and the internet. The participants were 447 Spanish adolescents aged 13−16 years (M = 14.90, SD = 0.81, 56.2% women). We measured gender, age, body self-esteem (body satisfaction and physical attractiveness), personality traits (extraversion, neuroticism, disinhibition and narcissism) and social networking and internet addiction (internet addiction symptoms, social media use, geek behaviour, and nomophobia). The effects of gender, age, body self-esteem and personality on the different dimensions of internet addiction were estimated, conducting hierarchical linear multiple regression analysis and a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The results evidenced different pathways explaining four types of adolescents’ internet addiction: gender and disinhibition were the most relevant predictors of addiction symptoms; gender combined with physical attractiveness best explained social media use; narcissism and neuroticism appear to be the most relevant predictors of geek behaviour; and narcissism was the variable that best explained nomophobia. Furthermore, the advantages and differences between both methodologies (regressions vs. QCA) were discussed.

Background: In recent years, with the rapid popularization of the Internet, lifestyle disturbances, such as insufficient sleep due to excessive use of the Internet, is of concern. Sleep problems are known to trigger migraines. To clarify the relationship between migraine and Internet addiction, a questionnaire survey was conducted for pharmacy students at university. Methods: Internet addiction symptoms were assessed using the Internet Addiction Test (IAT), and migraine was evaluated using modified Japanese migraine screening. Continuous variables were analysed using the unpaired Student’s t-test or one-way analysis of variance followed by multiple Turkey's comparison tests. Categorical variables were analysed by the χ2 test. Results: The recovery rate was 98.9% (442 / 447 students). Of the 288 students who had headaches in the past 3 months, 145 students (32.8%, 145/442 students) were judged as having migraines by migraine screening. Sleep problems (62.1%) were observed in the migraine group. Moreover, sleep deprivation due to headache was noted in 31.7% of the migraine group. The percentage of students with Internet addiction in the migraine group was significantly higher than that in the other headache group or no headache group. Conclusions: Internet addiction was associated with the presence/absence of migraine in pharmacy students at university

The present study was designed to determine the relationship between Internet addiction & loneliness, based on a sample of tenth grades students in Al- Sharqiya North at Sultanate of Oman during coronavirus world health issues (n = 165), 83 male, 82 female. Descriptive method was used. Findings show that there is a negative relationship (α ≤ 0.05) between students’ Internet addiction level & the loneliness level. There are statistically significant differences in the averages of Internet addiction among students by gender variable (male, female) in favor of males, no statistically significant differences in the degree of loneliness by gender variable (male, female), level of internet addiction in the sample are low(1.55), and level of psychological loneliness moderate (2.90). Based on the results, the researchers presented a set of recommendations and proposals to regulate the use of the Internet and prevent the risks of addiction and psychological loneliness.
