We propose a methodological framework to support the development of personalized courses that improve patients’ understanding of their condition and prescribed treatment. Inspired by Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs), the framework uses an eLearning ontology to express domain and learner models and to create a course. We combine the ontology with a procedural reasoning approach and precompiled plans to operationalize a design across disease conditions. The resulting courses generated by the framework are personalized across four patient axes—condition and treatment, comprehension level, learning style based on the VARK (Visual, Aural, Read/write, Kinesthetic) presentation model, and the level of understanding of specific course content according to Bloom’s taxonomy. Customizing educational materials along these learning axes stimulates and sustains patients’ attention when learning about their conditions or treatment options. Our proposed framework creates a personalized course that prepares patients for their meetings with specialists and educates them about their prescribed treatment. We posit that the improvement in patients’ understanding of prescribed care will result in better outcomes and we validate that the constructs of our framework are appropriate for representing content and deriving personalized courses for two use cases: anticoagulation treatment of an atrial fibrillation patient and lower back pain management to treat a lumbar degenerative disc condition. We conduct a mostly qualitative study supported by a quantitative questionnaire to investigate the acceptability of the framework among the target patient population and medical practitioners.

The Kabuki Actors Study set out to explore the health status of Kabuki actors, their performance-related medical problems, and the nature and extent of their health care. Two hundred sixteen Kabuki performers voluntarily completed an anonymous three-page survey addressing their health issues. Thirty-eight percent of the actors reported a history of at least one significant medical condition, and 88% of them identified at least one musculoskeletal or nonmusculoskeletal problem associated with performance. Sixty-nine percent of the performers had visited a physician over the preceding year, and 30% of them had consulted nonphysician medical practitioners. Kabuki actors, the Kabuki management, and physicians can use the findings of this study as a starting point to investigate why these injuries occur and how to prevent and treat them. Pain severity scales or other measurable outcomes of therapy can be used to compare the efficacies of physician and nonphysician treatments.

Published materials contain data on the methods of molecular diagnostics of COVID-19, se-quencing of the SARS-CoV-2 genome, epidemiology of new coronavirus infection, immuno-pathogenesis of COVID-19, clinical features of infection and treatment options, as well as the study of post-infectious and post-vaccination immunity and examples of complex measures for nonspecific prevention of COVID-19.The materials of the Congress are of interest to doctors and researchers of all specialties, teachers of secondary and higher educational institutions.

Introduction: Sciatica is a medical condition of pain going down the leg through back, outside, or front of the leg from the lower back. It can be co-related with Grdrasi caused by both the aggravated Vata and Kapha two elements out of three basic elements of the body. Diagnostic method of disease is different and management also based on root cause of the disease. Sepalika  (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis.Linn.)(Oleacea) leaves are having anti inflammatory effect and analgesic effect. Aim and Objectives: To Evaluate the efficacy of Koshtha (GIT) (Gastro Intestinal tract) Shuddhi (Purification) in the management of Gridrasi w.s.r. to Sciatica. Material and methods: For this study, 20 patients were resisted and divided into two groups. Registered patients of group A and Group B were given Koshtha Shuddhi with Sepalika leaves decoction along with Sashapadi oil Abhyanga and Sand Potali fomentation and Sepalika leaves decoction along with Sashapadi oil Abhyanga and Sand Potali fomentation respectively for 2 weeks before meal. Patients of group A were given 120ml of Vasagudushi decoction with 5ml Eranada oil twice a day for purpose of Koshtha Shuddhi for 3 days. The effect of therapy was evaluated on the basis of changes of chief complaints and SLR test was taken for assessment parameter. Discussion: The statistically significant relief was showed on the chief complaints of Gridrasi (Sciatica) in the both the groups except Ruk (Pain) in group B. SLR of all the patient of present study were in between 30o- 70o in R/side LL (Lower Limb). SLR was changed of both the groups up to 70o-90o and 100% showed relief except 4 patients in the group B. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the Koshtha Shuddhi is showed comparatively better effect than management of Gridrasi (Sciatica) without carried out Koshtha Shuddhi.

In a MOOC environment, each student's interaction with the course content is a crucial clue for learning analytics, which offers an opportunity to record learner activity of unprecedented scale. In online learning, the educators and the administrators need to get informed with students' learning states since the performance of unsupervised learning style is difficult to control. Learning analytics considered as a key process is to provide students and educators with evidence-based, analytical and contextual outcomes in a way of making sense of their learning engagements. In this conceptual framework, this manuscript per the authors intends to adopt sequential analysis method to exploit students' learning behavior patterns in Cloud classroom (an online course platform based on MOOC). Moreover, this research also compares the behavioral patterns of four grade levels in a university, with the purpose of finding the most key behavioral patterns of each grade group.

This chapter presents a social and affective agent, named social agent, that has been modeled using probabilistic networks in order to support and motivate collaboration in an intelligent tutoring system (ITS). The social agent suggests to students a workgroup to join in. Our testbed ITS is called AMPLIA, a probabilistic multiagent environment to support the diagnostic reasoning development and the diagnostic hypotheses modeling of domains with complex and uncertain knowledge, as the medical area. The AMPLIA environment is one of the educational systems, integrated in Portedu, which is a Web portal that provides access to educational contents and systems. The social agent belongs to Portedu platform and it is used by AMPLIA. The social agent reasoning is based on individual aspects, such as learning style, performance, affective state, personality traits, and group aspects, as acceptance and social skills. The chapter also presents some experiments using AMPLIA, and results obtained by the social agent.

With the rapid growth of the Internet and the increasing popularity of the World Wide Web, web-based learning systems have become more and more popular. However, in general Web-based learning systems, learners may often get lost in the enormous educational materials (Eirinaki & Vazirgiannis, 2003; Murray, 2002). This kind of situation refers to a disorientation problem. In addition to the disorientation problem, general Web-based learning systems provide every learner with uniform course content and presentation without considering the different knowledge level of learners. Therefore, the course content may be insufficient or unnecessary for learners with different knowledge level. This kind of situation was referred to as cognitive-overhead problem by Murray (2002).

Several adaptive and intelligent tutoring systems (AITS) have been developed with different variables. These variables were the cognitive traits, cognitive styles, and learning behavior. However, these systems neglect the importance of learner's multiple intelligences, learner's skill level and learner's feedback when implementing personalized mechanisms. In this paper, the authors propose AITS based not only on the learner's multiple intelligences, but also the changing learning performance of the individual learner during the learning process. Therefore, considering learner's skill level and learner's multiple intelligences can promote personalized learning performance. Learner's skill level is obtained from pre-test result analysis, while learner's multiple intelligences are obtained from the analysis of questionnaire. After computing learning success rate of an activity, the system then modifies the difficulty level or the presentation of the corresponding activity to update courseware material sequencing. Learning process in this system is as follows. First, the system determines learning style and characteristics of the learner by an MI-Test and then makes the model. After that it plans a pre-evaluation and then calculates the score. If the learner gets the required score, the activities will be trained. Then the learner will be evaluated by a post-evaluation. Finally the system offers guidance in learning other activities. The proposed system covers all important properties such as hypertext component, adaptive sequencing, problem- solving support, intelligent solution analysis and adaptive presentation while available systems have only some of them. It can significantly improve the learning result. In other words, it helps learners to study in “the best way.”

There has been increasing concern recently over an apparent lack of knowledge of mental health law among psychiatrists and other medical practitioners involved in its use. This has been particularly highlighted by the introduction of new and complex legislation intended to facilitate care in the community. As a result of findings from previous studies of other groups of medical practitioners in Scotland, a national survey of consultant psychiatrists working there was undertaken to determine their level of understanding of the statutory provision for the care of the mentally disordered. A purpose-designed instrument was used at interview with 72 consultants chosen at random from all psychiatric specialties. Their knowledge of even the most basic definitions and fundamental areas was limited, with only just over half being able to give the correct title of one relevant piece of legislation and only one in 10 being able to define mental disorder in terms of the Act. Otherwise knowledge was generally patchy. Greater emphasis should be placed upon training in mental health law for consultant psychiatrists in general, as the findings are unlikely to reflect purely localized patterns. Attitudes to the use of compulsory measures also need to be addressed.

Abstract The acquired von Willebrand syndrome (AVWS) is a bleeding disorder that is frequently unrecognized or is misdiagnosed as von Willebrand disease. AVWS is characterized by structural or functional defects of von Willebrand factor (VWF) that are secondary to autoimmune, lymphoproliferative or myeloproliferative, malignant, cardiovascular, or other disorders. VWF abnormalities in these disorders can result from (1) antibody-mediated clearance or functional interference, (2) adsorption to surfaces of transformed cells or platelets, or (3) increased shear stress and subsequent proteolysis. Diagnosis can be challenging as no single test is usually sufficient to prove or exclude AVWS. Furthermore, there are no evidence-based guidelines for management. Treatments of the underlying medical condition, including chemo/radiotherapy, surgery, or immunosuppressants can result in remission of AVWS, but is not always feasible and successful. Because of the heterogeneous mechanisms of AVWS, more than one therapeutic approach is often required to treat acute bleeds and for prophylaxis during invasive procedures; the treatment options include, but are not limited to, desmopressin, VWF-containing concentrates, intravenous immunoglobulin, plasmapheresis or recombinant factor VIIa. Here, we review the management of AVWS with an overview on the currently available evidence and additional considerations for typical treatment situations.

Allergic rhinitis is a common, chronic medical condition affecting millions of people worldwide. Uncontrolled disease has been associated with impairments in quality of life and decreased economic productivity. Proper identification and control of relevant co-morbid conditions is essential for optimal rhinitis control. Management of allergic rhinitis includes identification of relevant allergens, education on avoidance measures, medications and immunotherapy. First-line therapy includes the use on an intranasal steroid. Other treatment options include oral or intranasal antihistamines, decongestants, leukotriene receptor antagonists, mast cell stabilizers or anticholinergic agents. Immunotherapy is an effective treatment option for refractory disease.
